CGDC8 June 1st

The theme is "SANDBOX"!

Don't miss our CGDC #8 announcement!

TheRealTJ May 30, 2010 9:41 PM

Sandbox, sandbox, sandbox...

What if? =D

I'm assuming 060110 refers to June 01, 2010 (submission start date, maybe?)

What is it, exactly? A banner hardly says anything...

BlueTaslem, CGDC stands for Casual Gameplay Design Competition. This seems to be JiG's way of announcing them now.

I know what it means. But a banner barely says anything other than "Yes, it is going to happen, eventually, at some time or another" which everyone already knew.

Okay.... Now, whats with the guy standing on some sort of weird shape?

I bet that the theme's not Interactive Fiction.

Boy won't I look silly if it is.

Still, yay!

Guess you'll just have to check back tomorrow to find out.

GQWeasle May 30, 2010 10:14 PM

Theme is obviously fat guys celebrating donuts with powdered sugar.

Well, what I see is a fighter. He's celebrating how he just won a competition. Maybe the theme is competition?

Here's my guesses, just to get this started:

Summer vaction or the beach, what made me think?: fat guy in trunks possibly ready for a cannoball, letters simulate water caustics and the background looks like sand, the numbers, obviously 6/1/2010.

Oh, and maybe I'll pass on this one.

Thats my birthday!

I'm gonna enter. How do I enter? How much can I win? What will the theme be?

Very excited! I'm guessing the theme is…. dirt?

wlangford May 30, 2010 11:30 PM

Er, that guy is running. The "weird shape" is his shadow. Maybe the theme is Run?

Alternatively, Dreams.

Also alternatively, Arctic laser monkeys with a tendency to overreact while ice-skating.

Robonoob May 30, 2010 11:56 PM

Would the theme of the CGDC be 'ESCAPE' ?

cjquines May 31, 2010 12:23 AM

Banner Analyzation

This banner tells that CGDC #8 is coming.

The 0 6 0 1 1 0, probably means June 1, 2010. (because if you split it, you will get this: 06/01/10).

June 1, 2010 is probably the time when Jay is going to tell the details.

The brown background looks a lot like sand.

Between the 8 and CGDC there is a man, a fat man with two small hairs on top.

The man is either running or celebrating.

The weird shape under the man is probably his shadow.

There is a small sparkle at the second C, near the top part.

It looks like the CGDC is underground, buried under the sand.

With these clues, we can probably guess the theme for CGDC #8.

I'd say survival or competition, perhaps. The way the letters look is dirty and earthy, so that's why I'd say survival. However, the man is apparently running, so it could also be competition.

OrigamiMarie May 31, 2010 12:45 AM

Maybe . . . gold rush? The letters could be rocks with sparkly bits, and the guy looks like he's running toward the sunset (which in the US, would be consistent with running toward California where the gold rush was). Totally random guessing though . . .

Maybe we're having a pre-competition competition :)

LouBord May 31, 2010 1:54 AM

Given the art deco, it will be a race to throw your laptop into the dirt. Come on people! Who can do it first?!!

robonoob May 31, 2010 2:45 AM

I am looking forward to the entries....

I made a guess to the theme of the CGDC#8

Is it "3sC4p3" ? I made a guess before and it is not posted... I am not sure if I found the theme :)

Man. Why do I have to be out of town for the entire month of June!!

Hey, does this remind anyone else of the loading screen in cortex command? The gold stuff in the lettering looks like the gold in cortex command. Just saying ;)
It might be a sort of spelunky theme. The exploring of caves under the ground. Think about it.

Here's a little Walkthrough

Look at the banner

It has the words CGDC 8 with a fat guy jumping in between and the numbers 060110 underneath

Understand it.

This is obviously a way to tell everyone about the 8th competition

The fat guy

This is to suggest the theme. Possibly Survival.

This is the date of the anouncement

Comment and discuss

Judging by the guy - crrent GDC theme is "haters gonna hate" ;)

The dude is clearly a sumo wrestler. All sumo, all the time. Sumo, sumo, sumo, sumo, sumo, sumo, sumo, sumo, sumo, sumo!

CyberKing May 31, 2010 5:47 AM

the fat guy looks like some sort of thug, maby a first person shooter.
btw, were all calling the guy fat, maby he is jay? so we should stop calling the fat guy fat or he'll ban us all from the site

tigrita May 31, 2010 9:15 AM

That was my first thought, too. But wasn't that just the theme of CGDC7?

Also, your other comment posted. No conspiracy, sorry.

The theme is quite CLEARLY

If not, it might be something so abstract as

Competition, racing, summer

But those ideas are far too random. I suspect it is my first choice.

Fat guy looks like he has some major congenital defects, such as having a hand for a foot and a sphere for a hand.

My useless guess: LOST theme.

I'm with Holly's first choice also.

If it isn't it should be

How about next time we have a competition to design the competition banner?

punkrocker/grungerocker May 31, 2010 11:09 AM

i hope its hoshi saga themed

i SERIOUSLY hope it is escape themed(and NOT text games)...

Did anyone notice that the dude is a lot like JIG's symbol, but fatter?

Cheeseable May 31, 2010 11:53 AM

Maybe he's not a fat guy at all,

Mayhaps he is a gorilla

Survival underground with a gorilla...not random at all!

ShodoKat May 31, 2010 11:54 AM

Umm yeah, I think it's about gilded babies.
That's the most obvious choice.

Two words - Olympic Sumo

I got it!:

Summer games or games people would like to play in summer.

or a slimming theme?

[Looks at bulbous frame]

I'm in

olgofonz May 31, 2010 2:49 PM

I really think the first comment saying it could be sandbox may be on to something... at least I sure do hope it's sandbox

awesomelyawesomeAJ May 31, 2010 3:20 PM

Actually I don't think the fat dude is really a fat dude, I think it's a fat baby. And what do babies play in? Sandboxes. Given that the rest of the banner looks all sandy, I agree with TheRealTJ and olgofonz. I think the theme is sandbox.

benjabby May 31, 2010 4:29 PM

i reckon, the theme is survival. the letters have what apears to be light glimmering off water. the ocean. an island...?

bacground seems sandy...

fat guy. appears to be in tattered clothes. mabye a gorrila, yes.)
celebrating. mabye he is being saved. or shouting for a helicopter or plane....
shit like that.

could be completly wrong.
thats what i think anyways.

NikkiNox May 31, 2010 6:49 PM

People, people, people, that's not a fat guy that's a Samurai Warrior! It's going to be a Japanese theme! Woop Woop!

Anonymous May 31, 2010 9:17 PM

The banner is a fat guy on the beach running between oil that has washed up on the beach from the leak in the shape of CGDC8. We get to design a game that creates a way to plug/stop the leak and clean up the ocean......or its "escape".

Acidifiers May 31, 2010 9:28 PM

Call me crazy, but I didn't realized that could be the guys shadow; I saw a woman with a crazy person shaped hairdo. Do you see it? The space between the man and his shadow is the face; the shadow is the body/shirt.

This is exciting.

Sandbox? Particle physics? Summer?

Weight loss? Exercise? Sports? Beach volleyball? Mining? Racing? Survival?

The letters remind me of either a hole being filled with delicious buttery popcorn, or a collapsing tunnel. A fat man running can go along with both those ideas. Ach, the suspense!

A) Biggest Loser-esque.

B) Food-inspired.

C) Sand physics.

My guesses.

mr1black June 1, 2010 8:47 AM

Could the fat guy acctually be baby from a top-down perspective, crawling in a... sandbox mode? :-)

Or on a beach...

Kevindubrow June 1, 2010 7:52 PM

Nice "guess". Yeah, we knew that since earlier than you posted.

Maybe it's all about fat people. The letters might be made out of doughnut and then 060110 is the guy's weight in pounds. I can see some great games coming out of that. Get the fat guy through the door, squash as many people as possible by rolling down a hill, keep replenishing the buffet counter before the fat guy runs out of food... The possibilities are endless!
