JayCasual Gameplay Design Competition #4We have a lot of entries to share with you, and we're going to start rolling them out as we have done before, one every few hours, so that each game has a chance to receive attention and feedback from the JIG community. It will take us about a week to publish them all, so please be patient with us.

If you are new here, or are unfamiliar with the JIG community, here are some ground rules you should familiarize yourself with:

  • This site is all about encouraging and promoting casual game design and development from around the world, especially that which is being done in Flash. Your constructive feedback is encouraged, but it is your compassion for those who create these experiences for you to play that is of the utmost importance here.
  • Insensitive comments and those without anything constructive to offer will not be published. We do not expect only praise; pointing out flaws is perfectly acceptable as well as suggestions for improvement. However, comments such as "This game sucks." will not be tolerated, so please don't waste your time.
  • In this Information Age of the Internet we are in, anonymity reins across the globe. And just because you can say anything you want due to this anonymous environment, that doesn't mean you should. Please use restraint and compassion here when providing your praise and constructive criticisms. It's the basis upon which we've built this site, so please respect that.

A lot of people have worked very hard to bring you these 50 outstanding interactive experiences we're about to share with you. Let's come together and celebrate that as a community and for the good of all those involved.

Thank you kindly for your understanding and your cooperation. =)

wow, there must be a whole ton of entries, like over 50 entries?

anyways, can't wait to see em! :)

Wow, 50 entries?! I can't wait to start playing!

I think it's a mark of a growing site when the webmaster has to lay down rules about comments. Some people might see this as a bad thing, I think it in a positive light--JIG is attracting a whole lot of people.

Also, I'm disliking typekey more and more these days. it never keeps me logged in like I tell it to, even though I only ever post from one computer.

Reply

50 games? 50? Oy. I might just as well take vacation for the rest of the week. I am not going to get anything done anyway.

I can't wait for the games to begin!

Thanks, Scramble, and sorry about the TypeKey idiosyncrasies.

To sign into TypeKey once and for all:

  1. From any comment page, click "Sign in" to TypeKey. You will be returned to the comment page.

  2. Check the box "Remember personal info?"

  3. Without leaving the page, post a comment and let it process entirely.

We will have site registrations very soon and do away with TypeKey altogether. I promise. =)

Yay! Bring on the games!

Scramble, do you have it that your cookies reset when you close your browser? Because it isn't "them" that doesn't keep you logged in. It is the cookie that expires in two weeks that keeps you logged in...

Reply

Actually it's a JIG cookie that keeps you logged in, and it's set to expire a year from now. So, if done right, you should be able to remain signed in for a very long time.

I know it works, because I use it all the time myself and never have to sign in once the cookie is 'set'. :)

Reply

Yeah as far as I can tell, I'm doing these things. I delete my browser cache every now and then, but even when I don't it still doesn't keep me logged in for more than a couple of hours. For example, just now I didn't have to sign in since the last comment I posted. But I can almost guarantee that if I tried to post tonight it wouldn't let me.

However, I have just realized that I haven't clicked "remember personal info?" I'm an idiot.

Jay--site logins would be awesome. How soon is soon? Not soon enough. So elite. haha.

Reply

Wow, 50 entries! What's that, every other competition added together (or near enough)? Can't wait to see what everyone's come up with.

It's been a quick 8 weeks!

Reply

well I'm a new user with JIG, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what's coming up =)

Reply

That's definitely the problem, Scramble. If you don't check "Remember personal info?" then your cookie is saved only for the length of your browser session (i.e., close your browser and the cookie is gone.)

Give me another hour, and the first entry will be up! Working as fast as I can. :)

Reply

Uh...Jay...You need to start posting soon because my browser's refresh button is going to break...haha.

Reply

50 entries? Thats, um, a lot. Wonder how long it's going to take getting through all of them.

Reply

Been coming to jay for a while and I alway love cgdc's. Can't wait for this one to start to see what over 50 different groups/people have come up with

Reply

lol I'm getting really antsy! In the best way possible, that is. =D

Reply

I agree with cookie, I'm definitely getting hilariously frustrated when I return to the main page and find no new game posted. It's definitely hilarious and fun.

50 games with "ball physics" as their theme? It will be very interesting to see how original these games turn out to be. I hope we do not wind up with thirty pinball games!

I didn't had time to complete a satisfying entry (work takes too many time each day ;)), but I can't wait to see all the entries.

I am really impressed by the number of games submitted, and really excited to discover original gameplay around ball physics :) !

Reply

It's remarkable how much anticipation I have for seeing these entries.

*refesh*

Darnit!

Apparently Jay lives in a different time continuum than the rest of us!

Thanks for all the hard work you do Jay.

F-f-f-fifty!? FIFTY GAMES!? In one competition? I am stunned. When Jay said the number of entries had surpassed the others, I had never imagined this many. Looks like we've all got our work cut out for us. Charge!

I'm sad to see no new.. interface, is it called? Well, it's green and not blue, and green's my favorite color so I can't complain too much :-D

LOL, guys, dont take my comment about 50 games bieng how many there really are. I don't know how many entries there are, but from the description, it just sounds like at least 50.

I didn't mean to be taken literally, but there are probably more entries than JIG has had in previous entries.

Although if Jay did say that it has surpassed all the others, if that is all of them combined, then 50 isn't far off the mark.

Reply

I believe I was the one that mentioned 50 (it's in my post). :)

Reply

oh cool then :) hadn't seen that, but from what you were saying (that it would take a week to show all of them), it sounded like at least 50.

Anyways, gonna check out the ones that are up now :)

I haven't seen any walkthroughs posted yet, but there are definitely comments about people finishing the games; is there some kind of giving-away-the-answers moratorium, or is it just that nobody's bothered to write any up yet?

Reply

There's no unwritten rule to refrain from posting spoilers or walkthroughs, Lord Torgamus. Post away if you wish. =)

Will the ummmm UI? bit change since there are so many games? Going between all fifty could take a while...

Reply

Good question, LazyPint. No, it's too late to change the UI, and we really didn't expect to receive so many entries.

The most we've had prior to this was 21, and that was for our first competition a year ago August.

So, we have been discussing the best way to handle the situation, and what you're likely to see is a selection of finalists chosen to represent the competition after all the voting and awards are announced. In the meantime, we'll have to make due with a crowded UI.

Note: you can always access this page for a quick glance at the entire competition:

[Edit: If that's from the walkthrough, the walkthrough is incorrect (I'll change it). What you need to do is go to any OTHER page of the site (try the All games link in the menu). There you will see a smaller banner that is connected to the game. -Jay]
