Breath of Light

KimberlySure, frantic action arcade mobile games have their place, but sometimes you just don't feel like competing to see how fast your fingers can fly across the touchscreen. You know you're on to something different when you find a game that's a delight to look at and listen too, is relaxing yet at the same time makes you think. Many Monkeys zen like puzzle game Breath of Light, with a soundtrack from Winterpark, is all of this for your iOS device, and more. Each level has light emanating from one blossom. The goal is to manipulate the light with different objects until it hits all of the flowers, causing them to bloom. This is mostly done with various rocks, which of course every good zen garden has.

Breath of LightThere are several different types of rocks. Some point the light in a different direction. Round ones act as a planet, swinging the light into orbit, while others split the beam or even change its color. Look closely, because each of these can have different attributes. If they are anchored to a diamond, they are fixed to the ground. If not, tap and drag to move it around the screen. A stone can rotate if it has one "moon" in orbit around it. If it has two moons, it will be able to stretch out or shrink it's sphere of influence. Have patience, as even a little movement can alter the stream's movement, but can take a few seconds to take effect. And that's really at the heart of the game... Breath of Light has a slow paced relaxing atmosphere that also keeps your brain engaged. There are no timers, no score, and if you are stuck on a level, no problem. Just jump to another of the 100 or so puzzles to try something different by using the menu at the top of the screen. And if you don't manage to solve a particular puzzle, you might enjoy just making a mezmerizing design, and can even take a picture of it if you like. Whether you want a way to zone out and recharge after work, or just want a beautiful puzzle game to play, this one is definitely worth your time. Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy.
