Guys, great reviews. I am really impressed. I loved the game, but I thought I should say how well written these last two reviews have been. I read the whole thing which, I suppose, isn't unusual, but these last two have been exceptional. I think your writing, all of you, has really come to express the compassion you feel for this site and these games. Maybe it is just me, but bravo nonetheless. Now I need to play this game all the way through...
That's really funny -- I actually DID complete the radar puzzle without first referring to the flashing grid puzzle. I attempted the grid puzzle a bit, but I wasn't paying attention to details so I quickly got confused.
I had gotten a few pieces of the pie in the radar puzzle, but even though I was frustrated with constantly not getting other pieces, I managed to persevere through that. Once I got down to two pie pieces left, I realized that it would have been super-simple had I known the order of the colors to begin with because...
there's only one possible position (with a few pixels of tolerance) where you can hover your mouse over each triangle to get each piece of the pie to appear. When you only see 2 colors (4 lines), this is obvious, but not so much when you have 5 different colors (10 lines) orbiting around.
... I'm completely baffled. Maybe I don't have enough caffeine in my system, but I really need at least a hint on what to do. As it is I'm just trying to click on random things to find any kind of effect. The first puzzle in the cube thing would seem to be linked to getting the different pieces of color in some particular lineup, but it seems awfully hard to do for a first (?) level. The thing with the beeping colored squares and circle in the monitor just makes me go ?.? Help? Hints? Emergency caffeine drip?
Whoa, is that it? I expected something after beating the box... Anyway, great game concept, I love the backstory, and the fact that you have to earn each page by doing the same puzzle 5 different ways. All the more rewarding that way. Also the box thing was tricky, I didn't initially think that I shouldn't be using punctuation...
Anyway, great game (as I knew it would be). In my opinion, I liked this one better than clack. Clack was a fun little timewaster, but this game had depth, and even replay value that Clack lacked. It was much more immersive and gave you a feeling of person, somewhat.
Nice job Phillip!
I'm stuck. Could someone help me, or give me a hint?
What I've done so far:
I did the radar/pie thing at the right first. I need a password now. I noticed the circular arrow, so I put the colored squares (on the computer) into the spaces in that order, then clicked each circle and wrote down the number of beeps. I tried them as the password, but it didn't work.
OMG what a good game. Hard to get started, but simple once you get the idea of the game.
My advice to people who get stuck...
The creator of the game only did as much as he needed. There is very little filler stuff that will distract you... maybe a graphic or two here or there. EVERYTHING is nesessary and helpful... from the SoUnDs, to the aminations. Dont over look anything.
If you still dont get it...
Be sure to have your speakers on, and listen to beeps.
STILL?!?!?
Count the beeps
(caution: the following are not hints, they are complete spoilers to each of the puzzles that may ruin the experience for you, so beware...)
listen to the number of beeps when you click on the grey buttons and place the colours in ascending number of beeps.
keep on clicking to match the mumber on top of the boxes with the one that changes
create a pie which colours match the one in the PC. The triangle which decides the size of the slice can be changed as it will appear when the coloured line touches the triangle
now what? How do I get the password? Grrr.
Very nice game, not too hard ( I'm not such a good puzzler still I managed to solve it without help, so it can't be that hard :) ). Little bit short though.
Toughest thing must have been the password in the end, if anybody needs help:
spoiler1:
The hint that there are clues IN the entries actually makes this puzzle look harder than it is
spoiler2:
Don't bother to search the text for clues! The password is a number!!
solution:
look at the names and the colors of the entries, now look at the colors in the circle and their sequence. et voila.
WOW this game is THE BEST I've played in months!!! This is a truly great game.
Upon finishing the game you find out the whole story which is:
(This spoiler WILL spoil the ENTIRE game unless you have beaten it)
You are the 'competitor' and these puzzles are the make shift 'security' system set up by the restaurant owner
Wonderful game, great fun.
okay im stuck on the password the spoiler below might give it away if you havent beaten it but it is not the right password
okay so i counted the beeps and put them as a number in the order their sections flash on the pie chart...i got 26578 and that isnt right...i know the numbers on the diary entries are relevant too but i cant seem to figure out how
This is the best game I have played so far.
I have finished all the game and even the last one.
I know that a lot of people get stucked at the TV. I think it has more then enough hint for everybody to realize that you just have to click the channel on TV to follow the orange robot walking from room to room and get the sequence of the channel number for your password input.
And for the last room. There are only two things that could happen. 1) is the Light and 2) the color change
so all you have to do is just counting how many time the light is flashing and match with the color that it will change everytime you walk on it.
oh well... once again I love this game sooooo much =)
i wish there will have more level in the future
for anyone who is completely stumped on the password here are some huge hints.
the entries in the message selection menu (after you unlock all of the messages)are all colored and all have numbers next to them. look at the pie beneath that menu and the order that the colors flash. they flash in order, clockwise starting with pink. arrange the numbers next to the colored messages according to the sequence in which their coresponding colors flashed. and thats your password!
I'm So Confused!!!
So far...
I wrote down the number of beeps when clicking on each grey circle, and I'm getting a different number each time. That's really starting to confuse me. I wrote down
Red:2 Blue:8 Pink:6 Brown:1 Yellow:5
Red:3 Blue:8 Pink:2 Brown:4 Yellow:1
Red:2 Blue:1 Pink:8 Brown:5 Yellow:7
Red:5 Blue:6 Pink:3 Brown:4 Yellow:7
I'm going nuts trying to see the pattern in those... I read everything else above me and I still don't get it? I already figured out the pie chart...
Any suggestions?
Help!!! I can't figure how to unlock the diary entries. I was randomly clicking and somehow unlocked the red one, but I'm not sure what to do next! I've figured out that
when you click on a box, all adjacent boxes increase by the amount that is shown on the box you clicked, but the box you click only goes up one.
I'm sure this has something to do with the answer, but my brain can't get around this. Help so I can get some work done!
Here are some hints.
For those who think the numbers on top are the numbers to the password, it's not.
When you click on a colored -- -- --, you will be faced with a puzzle.
The goal is to make the center number match the top number.
When you solve a puzzle, the -- -- -- turns into an entry. THE ENTRY NUMBER IS A PASSWORD NUMBER!
Pink is Entry #33.
I think you know what to do
Thief Walkthrough
The Monitor
Puzzle 1:
-
Click the PC monitor. The monitor consists of three cells on the left and right, and five at the bottom. The cells on the side are where you pick up colors. The cells on the bottom are where you arrange the colors. The five buttons at the top can be clicked in order to activate the clues to the puzzle.
-
Upon clicking a button, the center circle changes to a color and beeps are heard. Write down the color and the number of beeps heard. Repeat with each button until you have all five pairs (Color - Number).
-
Now, arrange the colors in the bottom cells from least number of beeps to most number of beeps, left to right. You need not click and drag, simply click the color you wish to use and click the cell you wish to transfer it to.
Puzzle 2:
-
For the moment, ignore flashing pie at the bottom left. Click any one of the dashed entries. These puzzles seem tricky but are relatively simple. The objective is to make it so the sum of all the cells' values add up to the number at the top. Clicking a cell increases it by 1. However, each time you click a cell, the two cells next to it increase by whatever value the cell you just clicked was.
-
For example: Click the top left cell, it becomes 1. Click it again, it becomes 2 and the middle top and middle left cells become 1. Click the top left again and it becomes 3, but the cells next to it have 2 added on, making each 3.
-
The simplest way to get the sum you need is to click one cell until you get the highest number before going over, then use the other cells to raise up the sum in small increments until you reach the goal. I specifically use the top left cell as my first one, then the bottom right, then the other two corners, so I could avoid adding more than 1 if necessary.
The Safe
Puzzle 3:
-
This puzzle can be solved using the pie image seen in puzzle 2. The trick to this puzzle is hovering the mouse over a colored triangle to freeze it. When the appropriate colored lines passes the triangle you've frozen, a triangle will be formed using the two lines of the two appropriately colored orbiting circles. Mess around until you understand how it works. The triangles will disappear if you position them incorrectly.
-
In order to position the triangles correctly, look at the pie image seen in puzzle 2. Try and line up a colored triangle so that it lines up with the side of the pie slice that has the same color. For example: The bottom right pie slice has a side that points straight down. Whatever color that slice is, freeze that same colored triangle when it points straight down, as that is one of the sides of that pie slice. It's easier to understand once you grasp that idea.
Puzzle 4:
-
The pie image from puzzle 2 is also used for the verification code. The pie slices flash in a clockwise fashion. Each entry on the monitor has a color that's paired with a pie slice. Type the numbers of the entries in order of the pie slice that flashes.
-
For example: If the brown pie slice is the first to flash, the brown entry's numbers are the first digits of the verification code.
Evil, evil evil. because your mouse changes to a finger pointer (for no reason) over sections of the text, and because it asks you for a password (instead of a code), I created matrices of the text, and used multiple cipher algorithms applying the entry numbers and codes to the blocks of text, as a whole, numbered by word, numbered by letters, numbered by paragraphs. I want to find the person who made this game and (before I kill them) show them the 20 page document of notes I took on this game, which didn't warrant my time.
I'm clearly an idiot.
I didn't get ANY of these puzzles. What am I missing here. (don't anyone say 'a brain') I had always considered myself a pretty good puzzle solver, but this has certainly dispelled THAT belief. :( They all looked very intriguing at least.
(I hope I can figure out how to type in the characters needed to post)
does the game just end when you get the password?.. cause so many people are saying what a brilliant game it is but its way too short
[Edit: The game was an entry into our very first game competition, the theme for which was "simple puzzle game". This game has multiple puzzles, so it was a good deal larger than what we were expecting to receive for an entry. You need to consider the context of it before you judge whether it's "too short". -Jay]
Is the ending just
You get the cookbook, then LOADING...
?
[That's the end, there is no more. You completed the game. The game was created for our first Casual Gameplay Design Competition. If you play the game within the CGDC1 compilation, the game simply exits to the main menu when you complete it. I'll see if I can figure out a way to more gracefully end this standalone version since there is no main menu to exit to. -Jay]
