Tag Attack
Shooter fans! Has this ever happened to you? You're trying to enjoy blasting the latest wave of Galaga-inspired retro-baddies, but find that the old-school chiptune music and sound effects are drowned out by the relentless sounds of mouse clicking and space-bar tapping. There has to be a better way to launch a space bullet, right? Well, Devilish Games has heard your concerns, and the result is Tag Attack: a shooter that focuses more on the aiming than the clicking, while not sacrificing the intensity of the genre.

This is a neat concept but I wish I could start from level 4 or 5 or so. It was great fun the first time, but then the first levels are too easy to wade through again. I might have been more motivated to try and beat my own high score if I could see it. Since I didn't make the top 100, the "Hall of fame" doesn't seem to record my other attempts.
Tag Attack Tips and Tricks

The biggest tip I can give is to notice how the changed interface sometimes messes with your assumptions of how a shooter should act: Since your ship is both controlled and aimed by mouse movement, you can often fly yourself into an oncoming enemy while tagging one up ahead. It's a game of flying in two dimensions disguised as a game as one.
-
You can indeed tag ships that have flown behind you. Be sure that you wait until it has flown by the axis your ship is flying on, or else you might crash into it.
-
Generally, it seems that your ship can take 8 hits before it is destroyed. A shield pick-up will allow you to take another hit.
-
Be sure to use those bombs! You'll feel really dumb if you're overwhelmed by enemies and explode with a few bombs still in your inventory.
-
Bombs will clear the screen of bullets as well as enemies.
-
When you blast an asteroid, two smaller asteroids will fly out from it. However, they'll soon start moving straight forward with the same velocity as the big ones.
-
If, like me, you have a problem with moving outside the playing field (causing the game to pause), it might be best to move the game window to the corner of your monitor screen.
-
Bullets sometimes get lost in the firework effect, but no fireworks are light-blue and bullets will be.
-
In general, it's better to let a tempting power-up pass you by rather than risk crashing into an enemy.
-
It's pretty cool looking to move the aimer around when you speed up at the end of a level… and to make "pew pew" noises while playing.
