Snailiad
About as epic as any game about snails can be, Snailiad will take hours from you, and you'll be glad to see them gone. It's action-packed and adventure-filled, completely unlike the lives of real snails, who mostly sit around hoping they don't become escargot.

I don't think I could like this game any more if it were made of chocolate.
I love the artwork and the secret passages are hidden well. They don't seem arbitrary like secret passages sometimes do. It's all kind of simple, but everything that's here is good, and as the review says, a lot of thought obviously went into every aspect of the design.
My map with all helix shells and hearts
https://jayisgames.com/images/hs_rc_snailiad_map.jpg
Still only says 99% of the map. It mentions returning to the Shrine of Isis after getting all hearts for Slug Mode, but nothing happened when I returned to the shrine.
I think that the main menu secret is
boss battle
I'm at 99% map too.
If you look at the website, and look at the creators page, he provided a map to aid people.
It lays out the place 99%
The one that gets me
is if you look in the purple section. above the bottem right save, is 2 spots. 1 that is filled, one that is filled with a ?
does anyone know what that ? means?
Finally through with 100% map and 100% item completion!
Wow, what an awesome game! The best game I've played for a long time. It definitely reminds me of the 'robot wants' games, but it's even better! The storyline, secrets and exploration were fantastic. Felt so good to go back fully upgraded and whip all the enemies in the beginning levels.. "that's right I'm a full metal gravity snail with a rainbow wave devastator.. how do you like me now!!" Metroidvania games are the best.
was wondering what the Secret Snelk room was for but I think it's something to do with a medal at newgrounds where the game is hosted..
Here's an official game map created by the author herself:
Well like everyone else I too am at 99% and have found the room that was eluded to before (just going to have to look at the maps back and forth to find it I guess). I found the ? Elk room in the red section in the map
attack from the above fire pit and go down the left wall of the fire pit and you will enter in.
My issue is I cannot find the second ?'s entrance. The map says it is in the pink section but I have tried everything conceivable to try and enter into it and cannot. That and the last 1% of the map is all I need and I cannot figure out where I have not been. If anyone has a damn clue where some difficult places would be then please let me know.
LeeshaJoy, one thing that probably should have been mentioned in the summary is that you can shoot in all eight directions (primary and secondary) - you don't need to be level with Stompy's weak spot to damage it.
Further hints follow:
Stompy has two main parts, eyes and feet, and you've found that you can't damage the feet. So, you'll need to find a way to hit him in the eyes.
Your peashooter isn't piercing - it'll be blocked by the first thing it touches, so you'll need to use your boomerang.
It'd make your life a lot easier if you could get rid of those cannons; too bad your boomerangs can't reach them... or can they?
I defeated Stompy by first destroying the cannons, by firing boomerangs downwards beneath them, and hitting them with the rebound. Once they were gone, I finished off Stompy the same way. I fired boomerangs down (both straight down, and at downward diagonals when moving) to hit Stompy's eyes with the rebound.
@Leeshajoy
defeating SpaceBox:
The key to space box is the gravity jump ability, which you should have before you tackle him. Spacebox usually jumps around the four sides of the room in sequence, so by gravity jumping you can do the same sequence of jumps as he does, but always keeping one step ahead of him. He is slow to jump so this way you can jump, fire at him, and jump again, without getting hit. You should also have time to eat some of the grass at the bottom if you need to top up your health.
He has a shield that rotates and gets bigger the more damage he takes, but my srategy was to igonre trying to time my shots to get through the gap in the shield and just grind away at him.
Every now and then he sends out 2 squares, but you can destroy these with your weapon.
When his life is pretty low he will turn blue and is much faster and more powerful. I found it too hard to attack him with any kind of timing or pattern so my strategy was: try to have as full health as possible when he turns blue and then while continually firing jump straight at him. when you are right on top of him all you bullets will hit, but you will also take a lot of damage, that's why you need your health to be pretty full. If you continue you should destroy him before your life runs out!
To get to the second '?'
Head to the comb like room on the right of it. Position yourself amongst the icicles. and set the snail to be pointing up.
The super boomerang room:
head to the room with the snail that enjoys living in dirt. the access point is in the lower-left corner, but it's a small opening. So stand on the floor and jump while pushing the left key.
Thanks for hint on secret boomerang - what more does it do than first boomerang?
FOR THE ? ROOM:
Go to room on right of ? (it's kinda shaped like an X). Go to top left of that room, attack the ceiling, and go up through it (I can't remember the entrance height, so try to go in sideways). Gravity snail required.
SLUG MODE:
Not sure on the criteria, but when you're like at the end, if you start a new game, the difficulty can be 'slug'.
I still hate you boss ruch stompy.
Really liked it. This game is truly (an) epic.
I think there's an error in the author's map: the room with the full metal snail upgrade is two rooms not one. There is also a "bug" in
the secret snelk room in Amastrida abyssus since the map shows that you are in the room in Spiralis Silere when you move to the right.
On a side note, it would have been interesting if the first room had a door to the second room, as a Mega Man reference since the stars are already scrolling in the right direction.
When it mentioned cameos from Starwish, I was secretly hoping that it would resolve that
plot hole (or causality loop) with the star shattering, the argument with Neferiti and the scientists examining the fragment on Libra
but I suppose that was too far-fetched. But then again, Snailiad's own story is so wonderfully absurd (with commentary by the snails themselves!) that it could have been possible.
Also has anyone found any use for
Moon Snail/Sun Snail's prime numbers? Given the number of secrets in this game, it would have been oddly appropriate to use RSA and, say, the product of two of those numbers to encode some secret message. But I don't think that 18,000,000 gives a meaningful message decoded that way.
Finally, I still can't find the secret in the main menu.
I don't think that it is "boss rush" just because it unlocks. Since, for example, sub-menus in the gallery also unlocks.
I've tried the Konami (Contra) code with random guesses for B,A,select, start with no result.
It is possible (or more likely according to me) that
"strafe" with "c" (or "turret mode" as auriplane puts it) is the secret since it is undocumented elsewhere in the game, but I still think there is another actual secret.
Now that I've got 100%/100%. I will try
slug mode.
About 100% map completion: I spotted a lone secret snelk in the long blue corridor in the upper right of Lux Lirata. I entered from the right and the snelk was at the left edge of the room, if it makes any difference. Considering the lone snelk in the green room of Amastrida Abyssus and the lone snelk occasionally found in the low center blue room in Spiralus Silere, I'm taking that as evidence of a possible THIRD secret snelk room, which (for some reason) was not labeled on the walkthrough map. I haven't been able to track it down though.
The secret in the main menu...
...isn't something you can select.
Try waiting at the main menu for a while without touching anything :-)
caitlin,
you can jump onto things and cling to them in the middle of a jump. Make sure you're holding up while you jump, so you can stick to the side!
Dave,
You won't be able to open green doors until the next area. Grey doors are opened by meeting special conditions, such as defeating a certain boss. You can't shoot them open.
You need to find the Gravity Snail powerup to proceed, which is at the bottom of the red area. After that, head to the upper right corner of the red area, for the boss. Good luck!
JIGuest with the really long post,
the Full Metal Shell powerup was originally in one room. It became two rooms, so I could fit in a snail explaining what the power-up did. I must have missed that part when I was updating the map for the final version! Sorry! :-)
Dimpl,
It's just a regular boomerang...
...but you can use it to skip the first area!
Ugh I am having the hardest time defeating Moon Snail. I have all the powerups, including the super secret boomerang (although I guess that's not really a powerup) he is just so hard! I don't know if there's a trick to defeating him or not but I got the closest on my first try and haven't gotten anywhere near as close since. All of the other bosses (except Space Cube or whatever) was able to defeat on the first try, and even the third boss I only needed 2 or 3 attempts to figure out how to defeat him. I hate when the last boss is that much harder than the rest of the previous bosses. It makes it so frustrating to be that close to finishing.
Wow, this is frustrating... It erased my save data (yes, I checked to make sure my browser saves cookies).
[But Flash doesn't save game data in browser cookies. Right-click on the game window and choose Settings. Then check to be sure you have allowed ample storage for the domain the game is hosted at. -Jay]
Okay, this is annoying the heck out of me. I have 2 helix pieces left. One of which I know is in Lux Lirata (next to the heart piece by Full Metal Snail upgrade). But I'm buggered if I can figure out how to get at it! Tried all sorts of tricks on the two walls adjacent to the area where it should be, and still can't get at it. Help? The map doesn't help me any on method or where to enter.
Agh. In Mare Carelia, there is a helix fragment in the uppermost/rightmost room. I am there. The fragment is
inside a square ground area. There are 3 *hidden* entrances that I can find. None let you in.
I went around and made sure I had killed all the enemies, but no dice. How do you get in there?
FOUND IT! I don't know if my theory was right -
killing all the enemies in that room
Since I couldn't find a secret entrance in the *bottom* of the square...until I killed all spiky dudes.
- but I got that fragment.
And I found my Snail Town and Mare Carelia items.
The last boss in slug mode is pretty tough. I know it's all about timing, but damn, at least you can hide in your shell and deflect some damage when you're Snaily.
What gets me every time is near the end when he's "sleeping" then shooting before sticking on the ceiling/floor. It's just really hard to predict. I almost beat him right when I made the wrong guess. Talk about frustration.
Okay to find all 3 secret snelk rooms do this: go to the red area and make your way to the room full of pink rectangles going up and down wait until you are at the green door on your left side and jump off go into it and there is one snelk. Exit that room and drop to the bottom of the room with the pink elevators mentioned above. Once at the bottom (you should be standing in flame) go to the far left of the flame pit and position your snail so that where it's nose would be and go straight down.. this is the 2nd secret snelk room. The 3rd secret snelk room is in the pink/purple area where the ? is... go the room on it's direct right (filled with gray blocks) and go the place where a few icicles stand.. the next part is a bit difficult but possible.. position your snail so it's "nose" is pointed towards the top of the screen and move up.. you should be standing inside the gray blocks... move up a bit and then to the left and BOOM! you are in the snelk room.. this didn't get me to 100% map but still cool to see
About the secret snelks:
No, those secret rooms don't count toward your map %, nor do they show up on your map. The maps showing those rooms had them added in. They're bonuses, and I wanted you to be able to reach 100% map without them :-)
Only those two non-map areas count as Secret Snelk rooms. There are three wild secret snelks around the map--they're supposed to indicate that a secret is nearby!
@Dianna
what color is the snail and which colored area? I forgot which the boss 1 room is is it the green shell orange? cuz nothing is happening. does somethign happen when i get to the female/male snail and 'make babies"? cuz i see a snail that just goes "yay you came back" or something. just hoping if i do this i go back to the predicting snail so that something else small and interesting can still happen like a side quest.
Need a little help finding the Isis Shrine, no matter how much I've searched based on the instructions that I've seen to find it (So far, they have been quite lacking in my opinion). So far I can tell that it is under Snail Town, yet, as I look at my map, it doesn't seem possible, as the lower area of Snail Town is filled with other areas. If someone would be able to help me, I'd be very grateful, until then, I will search for the last Helix Fragment that I'm missing, and will recheck for better instructions on how to find the Isis Shrine.
@SkylerF
I know I'm not auriplane, but I still feel like answering.
The two Secret Snelk rooms don't actually fill a portion of your map, your character position marker just appears in a blank portion of the map. However, the other three Wild Snelk that auriplane mentioned, about how they indicate that there is a secret is near by, those are found in the actual map sections.
Hopefully that answers your question.
@Alex_Novotny
Hopefully you have the Destructor weapon. I personally just use the rainbow wave shooter/destructor. Anyways, let me help you out with finding Isis Shrine.
Start in Snail Town.
There are 3(4) secret passages if I remember correctly in snail town. One on the upper right, one on the lower right. and one in the middle (Directly down below the snail that says "I want to go for a ride!" Funny that you can shoot/break the platform where the upside down Snail is and it'll go Weee! or something cuz it flies up to the secret passage on the top above it, oh wait that's the fourth secret passage....!)
Anyways go to the very lower right area where you will see a snail.
Jump to the top of the lower area
Face the wall, crawl up, then crawl down to enter secret tunnel.
Next room: some platforms here and there, waiting on the upper left is a snail that pledges his/her heart to you. And as you can see there's a Heart container literally and visually behind the snail! Grab it and go down.
In the same room you grabbed the heart, go to the lower right of the room on the floor. Blow up the floor with whatever weapon you have and drop down.
Next room: drop down and crawl to the left. You may have encountered this area before depending on which secret pathway you took from snail Town (you may see those blue doors more often if you're looking for secrets here!)
Next room: crawl up-left direction and you'll enter a weird almost astronomical/blank/mysterious area not marked on the map! You're getting close!
In the same room: the room should be blue with red and silver pipes. jump and stick yourself on teh ceiling. go through the door on teh left.
- Here it is! position your shooter to the upper left direction until it appears to look like you destroyed blocks and opened a new pathway! go towards the invisible path and go up or float up with your gravity jump.
Note: after you go up, you can meet one snail that will tell you congratz on getting all helix fossils or tell you good luck on finding them all. If you have beaten Moon Snail the boss of the game, he will be there inside his glowing shell hibernating until he can become the sun Snail with the power of Isis! It is said that the helix fossils combined will be Isis or the essence/power of Isis. So basically if you get all 30 Helix Fossils you must come back here and talk to Moon/Sun Snail and you will be directed to teh credits.
Note: You can crawl along the invisible walls of the Isis Temple. Go to the left wall and up around the corner and travel right of the Temple on the Ceiling. I "believe" this is where the 'secret' boomerang is though I remember getting the boomerang pretty early in the game, or perhaps I spent too much time looking for secrets since I was lost in the game of where to go.
@shadow
Don't know if this counts as a spoiler, but I'll make it one anyways.
Go to the location on the map that is directly above the Helix Fragment you are trying to get, you know, the small green room that is kinda like an odd shaped L. Fire at the left wall in all areas, and eventually you should find that part of the wall breaks. Jump though that and fall down, and you will find the Helix Fragment you seek, I managed to find it by accident :3
Hope that helps :D.
@darkchaos125
You sir, are awesome, you deserve cookie and cupcake rain :D Not only did you help me find the Shrine but you ended up helping me get the last Helix Fragment :D I can't believe I never shot that area before, I was wondering if there was something else in that room, thank you very much kind sir!
My saved game disappeared also : (
I had plenty of space left in the memory allowed.
[If you started playing this game before the 4th of July and your save game disappeared, you might find that it's still available if you play at Newgrounds. We switched the links in the review yesterday to a local hosted version of the game. -Jay]
I GOT THE LAST ITEM IN SNAIL TOWN! Go to the guy that says there's something weird about that tree. then go up the tree in to the room with a heart container that's blocked bo a wall of green blocks. Shift gravity so you stick to the ceiling destroy all of the blocks and if you feel around there you'll float through the ceiling and into a room with a helix fragment and a snail in it!
Well, I found out I suck at this game. I don't know how to get the underwater helix fragment and I don't know how to proceed. I only have the pea shooter and that's it. Is it possible to crawl from ceiling to wall and from wall to ceiling? Because if I only knew that it would already help a lot. Please help.
really frustrating game. can't seem to move one after getting the first helix and pea gun. the farthest i got to was the green box mountains, yes it was rewarding to few but extremely annoying and frustrating for those that were not "chosen" by the game. especially when you've spent/wasted three hours sitting around researching for answers. sad and really frustrated.
maybe this game really chooses those few people who could unlock its secrets. damn
frustrated gamer: Not sure if you'll come back and see this, but the game gets a lot better as you gain more powerful weapons/abilities and more heart containers.
Someone: The deer (actually a snelk) is not an enemy, he's just there to be cute.
Auriplane: I loved this game!! Normally I have little patience for platformers but this one really drew me in with the unique controls and cute characters. Nice job :)
ok, iv done every thing i can think off, i found the secret shrine thing but i needed more helix things. i got 22 atm how many do i need? also y r no white doors opening and what weapon destroys the green? heres my map, could u have a look and tell me what iv missed? http://www.flickr.com/photos/abraaz/5918109428/
this is where you can find Both Secret Snelk Locations and Temple of Isis Location
For those of you thinking any of the bosses are hard, wait until
Boss Rush. I have beaten Super ShellBreaker almost every time using peashooter or rainbow wave, and take little damage from Vis Vires (Stompy) using the rainbow wave pointed up left/right to take out the cannons and eyes, Time Cube is just like Space Box, but Sun Snail is really hard with only 5 hearts.
100% map with Both Secret Snelk Locations and Temple of Isis marked hope it helps.
Wow, Finally!!!
Finished Boss Rush 5:43.89
Tips for Boss Rush
First Boss - Shellbreaker
Really Easy, stay on the left wall, and shoot right using rainbows. No need to avoid at all.
To finish the boss quickly, try to remember the pattern at which height the defenses of the bosses are down (where the boss spits boomerangs at you). It should be finished at about 30 seconds.
Second Boss - Feet with Eyes
Stay at the bottom and don't jump. Remember the patterns of feet stomps, and try to stay between the feet(except for when both feet go to the right really fast, but they don't stomp anyway). Most of the damage is done when the feet alternate going to the left and back. This level can be finished easily with either rainbow or boomerang used diagonally.
To finish the boss quickly, remembering the patterns are of course crucial, also try to alternate the left-right keys so that both eyes are shot(eyes closed). It is okay to get hit by missiles at first, and focus on aiming the boss. The boss can be finished within 1:30.
Third Boss - Time Cube
This one is the hardest boss, and you can die even if you know how to finish it. The most important thing is survival first, and don't take risks. Stay on the top or bottom, and diagonally from the boss.
When the boss switches sides, switch sides too.
When the boss goes horizontally, aim at the opposite side, strafe a bit horizontally and switch sides when the boss switches sides. When the boss emits boxes, try to be at the middle of the other side, and eliminate the boxes from the near side first, the far side, and then switch sides before the boss rams in to you. Keep calm when the boss goes berserk, and prepare to retry this level and previous levels many times.
I don't think I finished the boss really quickly, since taking chances will kill you fast. But I found that using the boomerang for this particular level was faster than rainbows. I guess you can still hit even when you escape away.
Forth Boss - Small Sun Snail
I thought this one was really hard, and I died so many times on this level without gaining any hits at all. That was until I found the trick to finishing it, and the trick is so easy: avoid the three balls that come at you. By shooting rainbow diagonally from the bottom at the direction of sun snail, he can't hit you at all. After a while sun snail dies. The reason I thought it was hard was because I kept ignoring the three balls and getting hit by them. To avoid the the three balls, the easiest way is to keep near to sun snail(that is when he is midair, when teleports to the floor, switch sides for a while), and instead of going away from the balls, go towards them to escape them when they're still small.
Last Boss - Large Sun Snail
Easy compared to previous two bosses, and I finished it on my third try. Try to not get hit at all. The boss goes through 4 phases which are the same as original boss, and they aren't really harder than the original version. The only one that changed and killed me in my previous tries is that the spiral of bullets can go in one direction at first and then reverse directions. So when they go on, try to stay at the center of the gap and don't panic at all. Hit the boss with rainbow when it is out of its shell, from the opposite side. Dodge the three 'Z's by switching sides. Dodge the bouncing shell by going its direction horizontally(instead of escaping from it), but it doesn't really matter if it scrapes you as long as you don't get hit a lot on the other phases.
Congratulations!
ARG! I played for hours yesterday and my save-game is gone!! I checked my storage and it was fine. It's so frustrating to put so much time into a game just to lose it all. Anything I can do before I start this wonderful game again?
[I'm sorry that happened to you, merula. Make sure you are playing on the same site where you were playing yesterday, as Flash game saves are stored by domain name. If you were playing here yesterday your save game should still be there as we have changed nothing on the site that would interfere with that. Also, right-click on the game and choose Settings and make sure you have allocated ample storage space for games.jayisgames.com to store data for all the games hosted here at JIG. -Jay]
okay...i have scoured the entire map for hours. i have been in every secret room. been to shrine of iris and all five snelk rooms: the two secret rooms, and the three areas with single snelks that are in the normal map. i have scoured the internet and all these comments for a solution, and found none that work. yes i have also gotten the secret super boomerang by snailtown. someone tell me how i get the last map 1%????? seriously this i so frustrating...
First of all:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii271/kindless-thing/wandom/lulwat1.png
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii271/kindless-thing/wandom/lulwat2.png
lol wat.
Secondly, I can't figure out how to
get to these shortcuts http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii271/kindless-thing/wandom/howhowhow.jpg
For those wondering how to get to the two rooms at the bottom right of Snail Town:
Go in through the entrance from Mare Carelia under the rooms, when you destroy the tree (the snail next to it says "There's something funny about that tree" or "I knew there was something weird about that tree!!"), go up through the top of the tree, head to the right from here to get into the first room!
