Serendipity in 2D is an arty game, maybe even an experimental one. You view a hospital from the side, the walls cut away. With your far-reaching cursor you have to orchestrate chains of events that will ultimately lead to three things: someone being saved, someone finding love and someone dying.

Omg, really, i saw this game years ago, could never beat it!
I'm sooo stuck on the "Fall in Love" bit.
...the exact sequence of events. The only way to uncover them; trial and error. Extensive trial and error. Precision pixel hunting trial and error.
Maybe this is just my opinion, and maybe I'm missing a point somewhere, but I seriously don't see why any game for which this bit of description is accurate deserves to exist.
I don't see what's the big deal about fighting over that comment, unless you guys are sci-fi fans.
Hahaha. I like how the first thing I thought was also that the name is the "Serenity" and not "Serendipity". Though John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale DO make a good duo.
I have played this game before- I assumed it was at JIG but I guess not. Somehow I got my hands on a walkthrough as after a few goes- I quickly lose interest in trial and error type of gaming (although I always like to know the outcomes:) ). To SonicLover I thought it very similar to Hapland or Grow series games- so if you like that kind of thing you will probably enjoy this. Don't know if this is a spoiler so I'll tag it anyway
This game may be a bit tougher than those because maybe you make the wrong person die, or the wrong one live, or the wrong ones fall in love. It is difficult because there is only one way to fulfill all 3 but sometimes you will do things that get 2 of them right and so making it tough to figure out which sequences you have correct and which ones need to be altered. I almost never get through these types of games without a walkthrough so I don't see it as too different from Hapland & Grow but maybe you would disagree.
I am not good at those kinds of games so I give up rather easily, but at least find the walkthrough and finish this one out because it is interesting how one little change affects all, even who lives or dies. My 2 cents:)

I don't think that's the right sequence.
If you let the guy on the third floor die, the doctor encounters another doctor later.
So with that chain of events, I've gotten to this point:
One surgeon is obviously on the "love" path with the female doctor, trying to get into the coffee shop.
The guy on the roof is in a position to save the helicopter pilot, but is too weak to get him back on the roof.
The guy with glasses is just watching TV, and the guy on the couch is still asleep.
Anybody got anything else past that?
Walkthrough:
1.
The doctor in the top left needs nuts, not soda. He'll watch TV for awhile.
2.
To the right is a mole. Click on it 3 times, then the steam gauge, then the mole again so it block the steam OPEN. This affects that pipe on the chimney.
3.
Break the TV antenna. Glasses guy walks off and leaves his trash. Dunno he goes.
4.
Call the helicopter (phone on the right at the desk). When a guy emerges and shouts at the suicidal guy, click on the steam pipe on the roof as he waves his hands in the air. Rescuer is now hanging on to the edge of the roof. Click on the left cloud and then suicide guy. He saves the guy from the helicopter. LIFE SAVED.
5.
Click on the bottom elevator. The nurse is now taking care of twins on floor 3. Click on the guy on the right of the third floor. He will go into cardiac arrest and the nurse will rush for the defibrillator. Hit the switch in the basement as she picks it up. LIFE TAKEN. Nurse runs to 4th floor storage closet and cries.
6.
One the second floor are two guys drinking coffee. As the right one grabs the coffee pot, click the men's restroom on floor 1 and then coffee guy who drops the pot and leaves. Click on his friend who goes to the elevator. Click the elevator and the guy goes to the top floor operating room.
7.
At the desk, use the left phone to call the ambulance. Click on the remaining cloud until it zaps a house. The fire engine has to park in the grass because the ambulance is in the lot. Click the trees until the squirrel is in the right tree. Send the two trucks away. The squirrel is in the hospital and the guy on the couch hates rodents. Click the window the squirrel entered and then the squirrel. Sleeping guy wakes up and goes to elevator. Click elevator and he goes to 4th floor right room (coffee!)
8.
In the top floor operating room, click the medical box. Doctor shakes it and goes to 4th floor closet. He comforts the nurse and they go get coffee. LOVE FOUND.
There are some things that MUST be done in order.
The nurse has to try to save the guy. If you kill the heart attack guy while the nurse is on the first floor, then she doesn't care.
Break the TV after the glasses guy sits down, but before the helicopter lands.
Jam the steam valve OPEN (not closed...) before calling the helicopter.
Click the windy cloud before the suicide guy saves helicopter guy, otherwise you lose your chance.
Burn the house after the ambulance arrives.
Wake up the guy on the couch before the surgeon comforts the nurse.
Those are the only ones I know of.
There are two things that are HARD to time right and one other is quite difficult.
the helicopter pilot's dash
the coffee pot breaking and the doctor leaving (otherwise he gets drafted into cleaning it up)
shutting off the power for the defibrillator
This game desperately needs an undo button. The timing is so finicky, and you don't get a second chance at anything. Even following the walkthrough step-by-step I can't finish the game.
When a game is so hard that I cannot complete it even with a complete walkthrough, it had better be so much fun to play that I don't care.
Such games exist. This is not one of them.
Comment on the timing
In step 6 of the walkthrough, you can actually do it in reverse order and have a little more time. That is, click on the coffee pot as the doctor is pouring it, and then click on the bathroom door before the clumsy doctor moves off screen.
Also, you have plenty of time to get ready for the defibrillator scene. Just click on the guy as the doctor is checking the bags, and then get the mouse ready to click the power off. She has to finish her animation before walking over to revive the patient.
I think the walkthrough is broken: I don't see any nurse. Is it referring to the woman doctor?
I've read the article twice looking for the reference to Firefly™. Where is it?

I called her a nurse because I saw a doctor in a stereotypical pink dress. Also, "nurse" is shorter than "woman doctor."

The timing for the defibrillator scene I mentioned is actually when you turn the power off. It can only be done once and sometimes the power comes back on before the guy is actually dead.
At the end, click the coffee pot for a fun little easter egg.

Just after this, click on the Restroom door (ground floor) to send the janitor there.

Click on the last man standing (1st floor). Click on the 1st floor elevator door to have him use it.

Click on the ground floor elevator so the female doctor can use it.

You could actually click the coffee pot on the second floor to make it fall and piss off the janitor.

You're wrong. Yes, the name of the ship is Serenity and not Serendipity, BUT the title of the game is supposed to be Serendipity, because of the words definition:
"1. The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.
2. The fact or occurrence of such discoveries.
3. An instance of making such a discovery."
