Robot Wants Kitty Walkthrough :

We need the keys to finish the game, so lets start!
First,

go down and get the "J" box, enabling you to jump with Z.

Then,

With your new jump, go to the right and save by passing through that machine. A "robot pattern encoded!" should appear.

After that,

Go to the right, and with that platform on the top (you cant jump up with that tunnel below), avoid that monster and jump up to another platform . You should see the gun. Jump up to get it. You can press X to shoot lasers (or they say, shoot lazorz).

Now,

Jump down and kill that monster. go to the right, saving your game again. But you cant. Note that if you have already saved your game there and your current save position is there, you cant save again.

Go to the left, jumping up the platforms and shooting the monsters. stop when you see the green 'lake'. Dont drop into it, its kinda like acid. Jump up while shooting to kill that red monster in that small space at the left side.

Jump up into that space. Careful not to drop into the lake. Wait for the octopus to go up, then jump up. or you could take the chance when they are down to shoot them. Just shoot them. Then climb up.

Kill the three red monster on the top. See that green thing? You're on the right track.

Jump the platforms to the right and jump up. See the lot of monsters on the top? Then you're on the right track. jump down that hole on the right, then kill the two red monsters. Kill that brown eye monster (optional), but if you dont, you have to be really careful getting that double J box. It lets you jump again in midair by pressing X again.

Go to the right, jump the platforms, jump to the left, go up, (just go back to the place where you saw that green thing).
Double jump up, and get it. "you can open green gates now!" it says.

Go down a platform, jump to the platforms on the right, and jump up. You should see the lot of monsters again. go down the hole.

Now, when you land, jump to the right. Shoot the red monster on the right, then jump up. You should not touch the green acid. Jump up again, shoot the red monster on the left, go left, and save.

Go up the two squares, then jump left, landing on the platform just left of the acid, then double jump up to see some octopuses.

Jump up the squares, you might need to kill some octopuses to fully jump up. Then, you should come across a green wall. That's where the green key comes in. When you walk into it, it will automatically unlock and let you through. :-P

Jump up and kill the brown eye monsters, then jump down the hole. Go to the left, and shoot the blue octopuses when they come up. Go down, and you will see a box with a green arrow. You have unlocked the Dash rocket, pressing C to zip forward.

Dash to the left, then when you reach the ground, dash to the left again, then dash to the right. dashing saves time.Go down, and you will see the pool of green acid. Jump up and dash to the right.

Save your hard work and double jump up, then kill the red monsters. Jump up, and you will see a wall. jump up again, and jump up another time, and you will see a pool of acid with some octopuses. kill them, then dash to the right.

Jump up, and kill the WHOLE LOT of octopuses. just stand in the platform, kill the first row standing in the platform, then kill the second row. Killing the third row is optional. Jump up to the small space on the top left, then go to the left. Kill all the monsters, then go up. Take the red key, go down, till you reach the acid pool, then dash to the left.

Go down, and you will see a red wall. Unlock it, then go to the bottom tunnel. Unlock the green wall, then kill the monsters in the room. Unlock the red wall on the right, then go the the middle tunnel. Kill all the octopuses on the top, then brace yourself.

Unlock the red wall on the top right, then go down. Stay on the platform, and don't really go down. you will see a really big blue blob of slime made up of blue blobs.(pardon for this :-P). Dash to the right when the blue monster is at the left, unlocking the green walls. Go up, and get the box. Press X to annihilate. Go down, and stay in the tunnel. Hold X, defeating the monster EASILY.

Go to the left, jump up, and dash to the left. Dash to the left again, then go to the upper tunnel, going to the room. go up the tunnel, and jump up. Go the the upper tunnel now, then you should see a room with red monsters and octopuses. Go up, killing any monsters that is necessary to be killed to go up. Jump up to the top left tunnel, killing the red monsters.

Go to the left, kill the blue octopuses when they are below, and jump up. advance to the right and get the blue key. Kill the octopus when he is up.

Drop down to the bottom, then dash to the left. keep going until you each the 3-way junction, then go to the bottom right tunnel. Advance to the right, until you reach another 3-way junction, then take the bottom left tunnel. Kill the red monsters and the blue octopuses, and dash to the left. Kill all monsters, and get the rocket skywards box.

Dash to the right, go up to the 3 way junction, go to the left, reaching another 3-way junction. Take the tunnel on the left, you should see the pool of acid. Dash to the left, then when you reach the 3-way junction, take the top tunnel.

Go up, then when you reach the 4-way junction take the one on the top right. double jump up, not going near to the pool of acid, then take the top left tunnel. save your journey, then jump up the two squares. Now, rocket upwards, then rocket upwards again. Try not to hit any monsters. and go to the left, unlocking the blue wall.

Kill all the monsters in the room, then advance to the left. Drop down the whole, then go into the room. Kill all the monsters in the room then rocket upwards, then go the right. You should see a pool of acid. kill the blue octopus, then dash to the right. Note that you should go to the platform a level up the acid level, and not into the hole.

Jump up the platform, then wait for the octopus to go up. Kill them then drop down the hole. Kill every monster, then take the box. it enables you to shoot a rocket upwards, pressing X and the down arrow key to smash red bricks.

Shoot rockets up, fly up, shoot some more rockets up. jump up, then try ti kill the brown eye monsters with your rockets shooting up when they are not shooting. Unlock the blue platform, then go to the bottom.

Go to the right, then go to the bottom left tunnel. Go to the left, take the narrow road, then dash to the left. position the robot below the red bricks, then shoot them with your rockets. Fly up, then go left. Touch the kitty, and enjoy the animation.

Blind jumps of faith are breaking a fundamental rule of gameplay. Therefore this game is poop.

Well, my time was 37:14. I thought the game was enjoyable, although I have to agree the constant "back-to-start" got annoying towards the end. Especially when I didn't know where to go and was just exploring. The rocket power-up was a little iffy; sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't.

I did find the rocketing back to the start annoying at first, but the game was short and sweet enough that it didn't seriously inconvenience me. The mechanism was fun -- sort of a brief version of Level Up! -- and the animation was darling, so I really enjoyed it.

I don't usually like this type of game but I found this one was cute and worth 10 minutes of my time. (didn't finish though).

There are holographic pools of acid! Explore and find them! They look and act the same as acid, but when you fall straight down into them nothing happens. To get out of the acid, you have to jump straight up.

I can't get the jumping rocket to work. how does it work exactly?

@Elliot: I was confused with this too. The description says "press and hold down + Z" or something like that. What it means is hold the DOWN ARROW key and then press the Z key to activate it.

It is amazing how quickly this game goes from "Cute Diversion" to "Ragequit Machine". Once I encountered the boss-sized blue monster and was quickly hurled back to the starting location, I realized that how the next ten minutes were going to go:
(1) Trudge back to the boss.
(2) Try a different approach.
(3) Get killed again.
(4) Repeat.

Combine that with the fairly touchy rocket-boost which seems custom-made for hurling you into danger and you have a game that, while fun at its core, desperately needs some more gameplay tweaking.

So many glitches. the slime pit where you get the jump rocket feature. if you fall into it, you don't die but get stuck. With no reset button it means you have to exit out and start all over again. After the second time I'm not going back.

It's a reference to Robot Finds Kitten.

A very nice diversion and although I do agree with the slightly annoying aspects mentioned in the posts above it's still far better than a lot of similar games. A nice 34 minutes and 15 second game.

@Kana There are a lot of blind jumps of faith in this game.

Well, there's a really easy way to defeat that giant boss:

boost past him, open the gates, and grab the gun upgrade. If you stand in that little alcove his shots won't touch you.

So i never ended up getting the "super blaster" thing.
I also never decided to beat the blue boss monster.

can anyone confirm that those two things are related?

Reply

Robot got cat:

Yeah, the super blaster is just past the blue monster. It's the only thing back there, so you don't really need to go that way at all.

Reply

Cute little game, did me remember my C64 days.

I was actually not so bothered with the "back-to-start" reset, especially because the power-ups allow you to take short-cuts through the maze.

What was more surprising was that:

you don't need to go through the whole maze to get the kitty. In particular, you don't need to beat the boss.

Reply

OMG did anyone else have the blue boss speed up to a million after grabbing the power up past him? i don't think it's possible to kill him at this point as i can't even get past him - i was just trying to check back to see if i need to go through that way at all?

Reply
Robot got cat March 8, 2010 3:02 PM

Thanks Neddo!
I was actually possessed to play through again, and I figured out that for the blue boss thing:

You jump PAST the blue boss guy and grab the power up and then you can annihilate him

But yes, you don't need to actually get past the blue boss thing, it just makes the game a little easier

I loved it. While for about 3 seconds I raged about getting sent back to the start...I realized I was rarely more than 10 seconds away from the location of my death.

The "boss" monster drove me nuts at first, until I realized that the rocket boost was the way to go. Once you

speed him up by shooting him, rocketing past him gets more difficult. Still, it didn't take more that 6 or so tries. Open the gate, stand just out of his range, and use the Annihilator to dust him. In a facepalm moment, he blew up after only three more shots :D So close.

The only thing that kept it from being a 5 for me was the feeling of inevitability about the whole thing. Sure that's true of any platformer, but in this game...it FELT that way. First go THIS way, get THAT weapon, then go back, get the next, etc...

Reply

I had no glitches at all... did got a bit lost on the maze but that's just part of it. It's not a huge level, so no problems there. And what are you talking about the boss? I had a direct approach to this, just

jump down, shoot him a few times, jump back up when he comes near, then wait for him to go back again, get down, shoot a few more times, etc. I could tell he was taking damage because he kept speeding up, but it didn't take very long to finish him off.

Lovely game, too bad it was so short... could have had more levels.

Reply

Nice enough game, completed it without killing the 'boss'. I didn't mind the return to start as the area is small and you can get back to where you were really quickly. But the mechanism where you kill aliens at the expense of a time penalty didn't work for me. That mechanism would work in a game that is addictive enough to make you come back time and again to complete it in less and less time, but I don't think many people will find it has enough hook for that.
A nice game that is not as addictive as some of the 8-bit classics it takes its lead from.

My time was 19:13.

I thought this was an excellent little game, and experienced no glitches on my end.

W/r/t any blind jumps, there are a handful, but most rely on an intuitive sense of exploration. For example, those having to do with making long "warp" jumps across green pits. Yes, you don't know what's on the other side, but 100% of the time you are indeed expected to cross to the other side -- possibly after one mistake. Nowhere does it break the player's trust on this count; there is nowhere that you're not eventually able to go.

I hope to see more from these folks. (That said, the $20 price tag for most of their other games seems like a pretty high barrier to entry. Maybe I'll try a demo at some point?)

Reply

I too didn't find the lack of checkpoints a problem in the part I saw, because it didn't take too long to get back to where I started. The real problem was the lack of saves, or at least of a mute button. Some of us have to do other things before we finish, and may not want that insanely catchy chiptune playing while we're doing them!

On the other hand, kitty! It's always good when a game has a comprehensible motivation.

And if I had known the secret to the blue boss, it would've been a bit shorter. I realized the secret after it was dead, which of course doesn't help much.

Wooo pixels! I totally know how you feel, Dora, I can't get enough of pixels. All these fancy-shmancy 3D graphics are great and all, but I love me some old pixelated goodness. And I'm not even over twenty! Well... 19, so I'm close I guess.

Playing the game made me feel like I was playing a very watered down Metroid. Not a bad thing, not at all, but I was disappointed at the lack of a real boss guarding the kitty. The designer could've made it so the rapid fire was up where the kitty was, and placing the kitty behind a harder version of what is the blue boss. But I guess the fact that you could see it at the start, and every time you died gives you that motivation to keep trying so you can get that kitty! But for me at least, it did dull the sense of accomplishment a little. Like, "Woo I got the last upgrade so now I can get to the kitty......" trudge trudge win. Games like Metroid always made me feel like, "Woo I got the last upgrade so now I can get the heck off this plan- OH SNAP A GIANT LIZARD." Although maybe I'm just less casual than most of the people around here, or just nitpicking.

All that said, fun short little diversion. I love these kinds of games, and the faceless robot and endearing kitty really were just frosting on the cake.

Reply

Oops, a bug! Emboldened by my victory against the boss monster, I rocket boosted towards the green door... and promptly found myself trapped in the wall, where I remain stuck.

Reply

Nice. The double tap rocket forward got me killed way too many times accidently, but that's my only complaint. It took me 42 minutes but I took a couple breaks...

Reply

First try was around 37 minutes or so, the second one was just a few seconds over 20. I suspect a speedrunner could probably manage somewhere in the range of 5-6 minutes if they could avoid making mistakes and used the back-to-start mechanic right.

For some reason this reminds me of the Commander Keen series. I'm digging the gfx and sfx. Nice little game!

I'm at 20 mins, I either can not execute the Z jump or i'm missing something. I found the one green pool that has a decoy slot, it's by the purple box.

I'm really confused, I can't find the next power up or how to jump to another section. Is there a bug or something I'm missing? I've explored 5-10x now and can't find the next level.

Oh well, beat it anyway. End picture was worth it!

Loved it to death. Sure, going back to the beginning is tough. But that's fine because your enemies don't reset. So it's try, try again and you persevere. Knowing better what to do each time you go back. I missed this the first time around until the puppy sequel & wanted to play the original first.

Had no problem using any of the power-ups once I got the hang of them. Made it through on my own without reading any of the comments or walkthrough. But it took me much, much longer than most who posted.

Great game. Thoroughly entertaining and challenging.
