How to Raise a Dragon
How do you raise a dragon? As you progress through this unique interactive story adventure from Gregory Weir, you'll find it's more complicated than strapping on a pair of fireproof gloves and stocking up on cattle. The choices you make can have unexpected consequences, and multiple endings based on the path you take will have you coming back to this one again and again.

I had a glitch in my game when I was playing through the 3rd chapter. I was wondering along, came what looks like a castle, and after what looked like a house like icon loaded-the game went black. only the dragon was on screen. I wondered for a bit and saw some random sprites lying around. Don't know why it did that.
I got the same bug. Filling up the green house icon is supposed to activate the next chapter, but it seems to work only with certain dragon combinations.
I liked this game, but it could've used some extra work:
There are several possibilities for the third chapter depending on where your dragon chooses to make its home and how nice/mean it is towards the town populace, but the differences pretty much end with the third chapter. The nature of the dragon itself could've influenced the ending more than it did; currently, all it does is say "the hero partnered up with the dragon/killed the dragon/was killed by the dragon". It would've been nice if the game acknowledged the difference between killing a tyrannical dragon and killing a benevolent one, but instead it just gives the same generic "the hero went down in history forever and ever" ending for each one.
The black background thing happened to me a couple of times, I think it's just a glitch - nothing to do with a behaviour.
On a different note, has anyone managed to get the last Title? I've tried all the different things I can think off, but I can't work it out (I assume there are five, like the behaviours.)
I loved the idea at first, but two things ruined it for me:
There are really only 3 endings, you either kill the dragon, befriend the dragon with presents, or die.
No matter what weird mix of food you eat as a hatchling to give yourself interesting colors, you only get one breath weapon and its based on what you ate in adolescence.
There are 6 behaviors and 4 titles. You can see the icons that you haven't gotten as a bit faded in the hero window. I'm a bit disappointed that the Behavior only affects the environment and not the text resulted in the end, but I guess it would take a lot of effort.
For how to get all the behaviors and titles:
Behavior:
1)Fertile: Green Power. Only breath over the peasant fields.
2)Fiery: Red Power. Burn everything
3)Necromatic: Blue Power. Revive everything
4)Rampaging: Eat and stomp on things (?)
5)Reclusive: Don't do anything and just get a home.
6)Wild: Green Power. Breath on everything
Titles:
Just a combination of being nice and mean and getting a home at either the 1st or 2nd location.
Xixen,
There are four titles, two locations (castle vs. cave) with two alignments each (good vs. evil). Before getting each of the behaviours and titles, you can see a faded square to indicate which ones you have left. Since there are no more once you have five behaviours and four titles, I would assume that that's it.
Personally, I'm surprised that there's no Benevolent behaviour, say if you heal all of the injured/sick people without raising the dead. The only behaviour you can get with and only with the healing breath is Necromantic, which is kind of counter-intuitive.
Ah well. Onward, my yellow zombie thralls!

WALKTHROUGH
Breath abilities:
To get these, you must be in the adolescent stage.
To get plant growth breath:
Go up the stairs after breaking out of the cage. To the left is your first plant.
After that, jump down off of the ledge and eat the flower poking out of what looks like a fountain.
Go right until you see another plant.
Go right until you see a set of stairs and go up one level. There is a plant near there.
To escape, go back down the stairs and go all the way to the right. Use your new found power on the tree, climb it, and jump the wall.
To get healing breath:
After breaking out, go up the stairs and to the right. Eat blue cup.
Go down the stairs to the right one level and go as far to the left as you can. Eat the blue potion.
Go all the way to the ground floor and go through the hole to the right. There are some mushrooms to the left a ways.
Exit the basement and climb one floor on the stairs to the right. To the right is a jug.
To escape, go to the bottom floor, jump the hole, and climb to the top floor. Heal the wizard all the way to the left.
To get fire breath:
After breaking out, go to the bottom floor, go to the left a bit and eat the fireplace.
Go to the left a ways until you see a second set of stairs. Climb to the floor with the hanging trinkets, go left a bit and eat the candle.
Go back down to the ground and jump through the hole. Directly to the left should be a torch.
After climbing back out of the basement, climb the stairs to the right to the top floor. There should be a lantern to the right.
To escape, go to the ground floor again and set fire to the hay. Walk out the revealed door.
Behaviors:
To get these, you must be in the adult stage.
To get fertile:
Must have plant growth ability.
Scattered throughout the stage, there are farms with failing crops. Use plant growth ability on them before settling down in a home, but try not to use it on too much else. Try not to stomp anybody.
To get fiery:
Must have fire breath ability.
Run through the whole stage spamming fire breath ability before settling in a home.
To get necromantic:
Must have healing breath ability.
Run through the whole stage spamming healing breath ability before settling in a home. Try not to stomp anybody.
To get rampaging:
Kill every human without using your ability too much before settling in a home..
(Note: some people may get a bug where the background goes black after settling in a home. Don't worry, you still got it.)
To get reclusive:
Don't do anything, just settle down in a home.
To get wild:
Must have plant growth ability.
Run through the whole stage spamming plant growth ability before settling in a home.
Titles:
To get Guardian:
Settle on the castle without killing anybody.
To get Tyrant:
Kill everybody and settle on the castle.
To get Watcher:
Settle on the mountain without killing anybody.
To get Scourge:
There is a third hero ending: the subservient / slave.
The only thing that really bugged me was having to walk alllllll that way to get to the dragon, with no (as far as I know) interaction with the sprites. Also it was hit and miss as to whether the background would match what the adult dragon had done previously. Only the gallows (whether they're rebuilt or not) seemed kind of intentional.
My favorite was adolescence. Great castle!
It's a cool concept and a great start! I would play a second version of this.
I think it's cool how people have managed to come up with lots of other ways things could have gone in this adventure. Here's another one:
I was surprised that you couldn't take the bow and kill the zombies as the hero for the necromantic dragon. Definitely the hero needed some attribute endings to round things out a little.
Great game! It was very fun to try out all of the possibilities. Burning the wizard and everything in the towers was especially rewarding.
However, I agree with those above - the conclusion to this game could be improved:
If the information at the end of the 3rd section were to hint at the optimum methods for the Hero to deal with the Dragon (ie: Fiery Tyrants cannot be befriended), the 4th section would be much easier, and eliminate trial and error and pointless running back-and-forth between the objects and the Dragon.
Also, the end screen with the Hero and/or Dragon silhouettes would be improved if a summary of the player's choices (ie: Plant Breath, Rampaging Scourge, Killed by Hero) were added.
And of course, the whole Healing system needs to be improved. Not only should a healing, non-necromantic behaviour be included (eg: Healer), but if you do create zombies then they should go around eating other citizens of this unfortunate town. Then, you could include another set of Hero Titles:
-
Saviour - Kills all zombies (using the bow and arrows) and the Dragon.
-
Accomplice - Kills all of the zombies, but not the Dragon, effectively helping the Dragon take over.
-
Hypocritically Sadistic - Kill the Dragon but not the zombies, leaving the town to be over-run by the undead.
-
Zombie - Get killed by a zombie.
That's just my two-sense worth.
I do love these pixellated mini-games.
Dragons have long been a favorite mythical beastie of mine - I have one tattooed on my arm - so I'm enjoying this simple yet compelling game.
If you're in the mood to be a mean dragon..
get fire breath and you can burn both the tree and the sick wizard. That'll teach him not to go around imprisoning baby dragons and using their droppings for who knows what!
I noticed the blackout glitch happening whenever
I didn't get a breath power, and did stuff in adult stage. I don't think it liked when I didn't have a breath power.
A question about the hero endings.
In regards to the one labeled stalemate, where you and the dragon apparently kill each other, can anyone who achieved this say just how they did it? I've been trying, and either I kill him, or he kills me. I can't time it correct, I guess?
After you beat the game, and you are going back to play the adult dragon level, you get to choose which breath power you want. I've gotten the fire, heal, and grow powers, but there is the outline of one more that I cannot seem to find. It looks kind of like a circle with an X on it. Does anyone know what it is and/or how to get it?
Yeah. You get healer (the 7th ending) WHICH NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT! by HEALING THE WOUNDED (and maybe 1 or 2 zombies).
Just as Aerineth said:
"I agree there should be a
(Healer behavior.)
I went through very carefully healing all the injured and not reviving any zombies and just got reclusive.
I agree this is a neat fun game, but it would be amazing if it was expanded a little."
What are all the chapter or book-like things for this? I think I've got them all, I have
Hatchlings, Coloration, Capturing a Dragon, Adolescence, Breath Powers, Healing Breath, Plant Growth Breath, Fire Breath, Escape, Forgiveness, Adulthood, Human Interaction, Reclusive Guardian, Healer Guardian, Fertile Guardian, Wild Guardian, Fiery Tyrant, Necromantic Tyrant, Wild Tyrant, Rampaging Tyrant, Fiery Scourge, Necromantic Scourge, Wild Scourge, Rampaging Scourge, Necromantic Watcher, Reclusive Watcher, Healer Watcher, Wild Watcher, Fertile Watcher, The Hero, Slaying the Dragon, Fall of the Hero, Friendship, Service, and Stalemate.
Yes, I actually went through the game many times and wrote down the title of each book transition I got. Dx Cause I want to know if once you get everything you can click on the book on the menu and see them all. Or, of course, could someone just tell me whether or not you can? ^^;;
There are subtitles in this game
Reclusive Watcher - kill one human and stay at the cliff
Reclusive Guardian - kill one human and stay at the castle
Wild Guardian - your breath powers must be plant then stay at the castle(I kinda use power on the houses)
Wild Scourge - you your breath powers must be plant then stay at the cliff(use plant powers on all)
Necromantic watcher - heal everyone then stay at the cliff
Healer Guardian - Heal everyone and stay at the castle
Fiery Scourge - burn all and stay at the cliff
Fiery Tyrant - burn all in your way and stay at the castle
Rampaging tyrant - step on everything or and stay at the castle
Rampaging scourge - step on everything or and stay at the cliff
Hero stuff
Unlock things
slaying the dragon = kill any dragon
Friendship =give gold to guardian or give flower to wild
Stalemate = both die(hero and dragon)
Fallen hero = die (hero)
Service = give gold to tyrant
all breath powers
Fire: first bulding the fireplace in the kitchen, second bulding the candle, basement the torch,(to eat 2x jump then X) and third bulding the lamp
Plant:
eat all plants
Healing: the jar next to the candle, the jar below the lamp, mushrooms next room to torch, orb thing next to barrel of treasure
I found tons of glitches occuring when you give a dragon gold, pick it back up, then drop it again. Once, I gave a watcher a flower and picked it up then dropped it, but he poked it away. Then he roared and I froze.
And you can get healer by healing all wounded but no dead. There's some wounded people in the army, too.
Great game! It was very fun to try out all of the possibilities. Burning the wizard and everything in the towers was especially rewarding.

"Hypocritically Sadistic"
xD Love it!
I got the fifth title. I manged to get killed and kill the at the same time!!! Here's how I did it:
Fight a fiery tyrant. Keep on the arrows but make sure the hero gets hit twice and also make sure the dragon attacks with it's tail before it dies. Once the dragon's head makes the hero jump down from the building touch the dragon's tail. The hero will and you'll get the last title.
[Edit: Spoiler added -Walzar]
i found this game reminding......because i thought of a game like this one, in my game, you play as the dragon and watch and help raise it from an adolesence to an adult, when it is of mid-age, it finds a rider in the forest, when the she-dragon saves him from soldiers, they form a bond and he keeps her a secret from everyone and everything. when he and she are adults, they get found, and they chase them, trying to slay the last dragon,.... and they capture them....and she is slain as he is forst to watch, then, 3 years later his son finds a dragon egg and brings home a dragon....it is the dragon that was thought to be slain....and they live happily ever aft....what's this? the egg hatch....now they lived happily ever after....for now. oh and well good game
I have beaten this game TWICE.
In Adolescence, If you fill up one symbol (leaf, heal, or fire)And you eat onother object you breath power symbol will appear. (You have eaten all 4 fire objects and you go and eat the mushrooms and tree. Your fire symbol will appear.
And here is an idea for a sequel:
-3D
-kill the zombies
-Hero Stage-raise stats like in rpg's,buy items, RPG style dragon fight, wild monster, heath and mana, spells, etc.
Ah something was nagging me about this game. It's remarkably similar to Choice of the Dragon. For those who find this a little lacking, just search for it right here on JIG.
And if somehow this link works, here it is:
https://jayisgames.com/archives/2010/02/choice_of_the_dragon.php
i got the stale mate choosing a healer tyrant and shooting it while jumping (you know, pressing z and c at the same time)then letting it bite and tail poke every volley of arrows. then when i die keep shooting arrows.
Really fun game though! I was looking for a virtual dragon game(i hate dragon cave) and i stumbled across this.
