Ghostscape 2: The Cabin
There's a cabin in the woods you should stay away from. A quiet little place where time almost seems to stand still. But if you do ignore the warnings and pay a visit, in that dark place, you might want to do a favour for the cabin's lonely occupant. If you don't, you may find yourself staying a long, long time. A point-and-click adventure of paranormal investigation.

phew finished it! Nice experience especially with the sightings and doll. Love the black and white old movie theme!
The ending is not as expected though...
The camera our guy use supposed to capture photograph of ghosts, yet this one able to escape. It would be better imo if we see the old guy as a grim reaper.
I hasn't dug all dirts or found all ankou sightings.
I use walkthrough for the metal detector parts. I wasn't know that we supposed to click with it on 'interesting grounds'.
Like always, there are weakness on the story and texts, but the whole experiences still above par :) .
I found all but one dirt pile, and only got one Ankou sighting but I'll be honest, I wasn't really sure what I was doing when it happened. I also certainly didn't find the
Diamond Ring the score table talked about. What diamond ring?
While it's better than nothing, this came is designed in such a way that a video walkthrough was practically useless. You can't tell what you're missing unless you squint through all 9 and a half minutes of it? C'mon.
SPOILERS AHEAD (hidden)
Not as particularly scary as I had anticipated.
The images and cutscenes were nice and very visual especially the one with the
graves.
The
doll and its dialogues
was a nice touch as well.
Smooth movements and overall creepy atmosphere, well done on that. But besides the overly good animation it lacked a little on the gameplay side.
As the review said, it lacked a noticeable story. What are we doing here in this place? Why are we taking photographs? What is this place and where exactly are we?
From what I gathered after finishing the game our character is a
journalist as seen by the camera and evidence-hunting in the game. Also, we are in a semi-popular spot for camping and hiking. The place is littered with graves and thick creepy woodlands.
Should have been a little clear on that though. Maybe put an introductory letter/dialogue to get the feel of the story?
How about the
graves, tents and the items like the diamond ring and red wine?
It seems a little too open-ended. The
diaries
give some background but then we are left hanging as to what really happened. The
old man
didn't even give a creepy/sinister closure which would have been really good for its scare-factor.
More on the gameplay since the story would be an endless rant for me. I didn't
go into the cabin and talk to the old man first
since I was certain there would be a surprise waiting for me. Instead I went ahead to the
camp site and browsed around. I found a skull and the dialogue said something about an 'old man' and I was confused since I never met him til later in the game. Also, about the crates, when you have gathered the evidence and leave the scene and then come back, it shows a closed crate that you cannot open. Really confusing since you have to look around at spots again and again to make sure you didn't miss anything.
There's too much needed to be improved but for now it's a good basic game. 2/5

The obsidian blade:
Is in the cave that is sealed (there are geometric patterns on the rock and a pentagram with holes on the ground in front of it). You need to figure out how to place the obsidian spheres in the pentagram to open the stone blockage. Hint: Study the carvings on the rock carefully, they are the clue.
I've never done this before - hope it works and hope it helps. :)

I liked this one. The look of it and especially the sound were nice and spooky. The cutscenes if you can call them that were a bit cheesy looking though.
It was a bit dark in places. Looking for that last lantern and skull got a bit frustrating, and I never saw a single Ankou. What do they even look like?
Loved the look of the game. GREAT atmosphere. But there's a major design issue:
I, too, did not immediately talk to the old man. This is a problem. It's breaking the ancient adventure game rule: never let the player find the key before the door!
The old man should have talked to us, instead of the other way around, if it was so important. And he should have pointed out to us where everything was, so that the other screens could be locked prior to that meeting.
The story itself is alright. Kinda weak - I think there were more interesting options for the ultimate outcome, but it was okay. And the sound was pretty good too, minus the hilarious 'blowing into the microphone to simulate wind trick' ;)
Oh. correction:
I don't mean the old man should have pointed out where all the objects were. Just where all the campground locations where. The screens you navigate to, in other words. Just want to make sure that's clear, because I don't want to sound like I'm suggesting the game should play itself or something
The crowbar can be found :
Between the two leftmost graves on Screen 1, leaning against a fence post.
To use the metal detector :
While holding the metal detector, click on an "area worth searching". As you move the metal detector around, the red circles change in size and seem to spin faster or slower. To find the obsidian spheres you have to find the spot where the red circles are so small and spinning so fast they seem to vanish. When you find the right spot, click the mouse. If you've got the right spot you will be told you have an obsidian sphere.
Why bother giving us the lighter at the start if it can't be used for multiple tasks?
I tried lighting all the campfires but no go. They should have made it a findable item.
Ugh, that ending made no sense. And the puzzles weren't fun enough in and of themselves to justify the game.
Great ambiance, but it was like they wanted to give me a game but got too tired to actually give me this story that they had obviously written out.
Okay so this game is cool and everything, but I spend 93 mintues trying to find everything and in the end I could not find the last dang skull so I gave up. This game would have been interesting if it was a tiny bit easier to find all the items. Now it is 3:43 in the morning and I have a huge headache from not being able to find the skulls.
@ Anyone asking about the Obsidian Orb in the "Area Worth Searching" outside the cabin:
There isn't one - an orb, or an area worth searching. Trust me, I played through the whole game and found everything, and I had five orbs at the end without finding one outside the cabin. The author of the walkthrough must have just made a mistake. So don't kill yourself looking for it, because its definitely not there!
The first Orb is in the cellar of the cabin, near the doll. The other four are outside the tool shed, outside the wood shed, at the campsite, and at lookout point. You only need five to beat the game!
How to get more Ankou sitings is.. Go to a nice site like the Wood Shed and click on the trees alot where it says 'the trees barely move' or something like that, then quickly move the cursor around and you might see the word 'Ankou' quickly take a picture. By the way, I Couldn't finish the game because I Only had 5 Skulls so I'm Restarting..
I thought it was a beautiful, unsettling touch to have our own name inscribed on the open grave in front of the cabin. I didn't notice it the first time, but I did the second, and it gave me chills.
Much like the first Ghostscape, I can't seem to fathom the ending though. What the hell actually happened in that place?
So, I really enjoyed this game. The only complaint I have is the black&white theme of it. There's nothing wrong with the game being black&white, but searching for dirt piles to find that last goddamn skull or a dark lamp in a dark corner is really frustrating due to the lack of color. But otherwise, kind of predictable, but really enjoyable. Liked the first and the second installment! :)
OK. I've noticed some of you haven't really figured out the story with the info given in the story so I am gonna put my theory on it down here. I don't know if i will be right or not and I don't know if any of you will agree with my theory, but here it is anyways.
The grave with your name on it.-
You did not die already. It is there because you will die if you don't complete the old mans tasks. He states the fact that you would have died had you not completed them at the end of the game.
The old man.-
The old man is Ankou who is also the pure soul that was sacrificed in the bazaar ritual which you find the location of when you enter the sealed cave.
The previous people.-
Most of them went missing (i.e. died) like the guy who went into the caves looking for the missing girlfriend or also said girlfriend. There are one or two that may have just left though like the mountain biker. They say in the end of their diary that they are leaving the next day but there is nothing after that. However judging by the fact that said diaries are still there and in various areas of disarray it is safe to presume that they went missing or died as well. Also in one of the diaries one of them had asked the old man about the graves and he starts ranting about Ankou so assuming that the graves belong to people that went there and went missing, which I use the grave with our name on it as evidence to that effect, then the missing people were killed by Ankou.
The last thing people seemed confused with was the ending
not being able to take the old mans picture.-Well we find out that he died 30 years ago so this tells us we've been talking to a ghost the whole time, but coinciding with my theory that the old man is in fact Ankou and thus not a normal ghost but rather an aspect of death, even though you can see death easily when it/he lets you, you will never truly be able to document death incarnate with something as mundane as a camera, even if said camera can easily photograph a normal ghost/spirit.
Once again I don't know if my theories are correct or not, but there they are for anyone to look over.
Shade
I guess I am just stupid, but I can't open the freaking door with the star.
After 78 minutes I quit, I've been trying for like 20 minutes now and have gotten bored.
It appears that the game was rushed a bit.. I find it having of lack of... something I can't quite put my finger on, but something that completes the game.
Did anyone else get the creepy cutscenes, like
when you get the hat and the creepy claws scratch the screen and say "you're next"
or in
the basement by the wine bottle when a bunch of scary white ghosts swirl around the screen?
Overall, I liked this. It was much shorter than the first, but still quite spooky. Very beautiful settings, very eerie sounds.
I couldn't understand the doll, though, it kind of sounded like "argleblargh" something. I can't help but feel I missed out on an important bit.
So, been thinking about the story the game seems to imply.
I don't think that the Old Man is the Ankou. Certainly not a living man anymore, possibly some sort of greater spirit, but unless he and the Ankou are two sides of the same coin...which, while compelling, seems to be denied with the apparent record of him being alive some thirty-odd years ago.
Anyway, I strongly suspect that, whatever the Old Man is (and the odd rules the gameplay and Diaries indicate he follows), the tasks he puts you to ultimately are an undoing of the Ankou, laying the poor sod to rest. Every time we see the Ankou, and it is described, it is a tall man(?) with a wide-brimmed hat and a scythe; right there that's two possible Items of Power (tm). Eight red poppies, eight ancient lanterns, eight human skulls...while of course only speculation, I imagine it was eight men and women who dragged a frightened child (because it's hard to get purity of heart after puberty) to a cave on All Hallows' Eve and, among other things, put an obsidian dagger through its heart.
Besides, while certainly possible to be as modern day as the 70s/80s (when the Old Man presumably was recorded as dying), the locale, as well as the style of lanterns and the feel of the ritual, strike me as a late 1800s/early 1900s thing. Superstitious, isolated, and cruel peasant-farmers and mountainfolk guarding the bones of their clans with a rite steeped in blood and pagan antiquity.
Anyway, enough rambling; it certainly has its flaws, but Ghostscape 2 is a good ride.
ok i get it, the crowbar has no use... the spheres are only 5 pieces.. all you have to do is, find all the things then go to the cave where the solid door is found. Click the 5 pointed star,Just place the spheres and 'try this pattern' then the door will slowly open. Follow the 4 patterns on the door. After the door is oopened, just get the obsidian blade and go back to the old man. Take a photo of him and get outta there! xD nice game!
A nice game! I really wonder what happened to Jenny mentioned in the diary and
why she disappeared so early.
I mean,
the old man told us that those who failed to accomplish the missions would die, but I think the diary writer was still working on it, or they had no missions at all. No matter why she disappeared, it seems that Jenny has become a skull collected by me.
It does disappoint me that the story is not solid enough. I am not a native English speaker, so it may be difficult to understand my words..
