Exmortis 2
From Ben Leffler of Australia comes this dark and foreboding tale of the macabre that will surely send chills down your spine. One part Flash point-and-click adventure and one part interactive narrative, Exmortis 2 is the sequel to the 2004 game of the same name. It continues the story one year after the events of the first tale came to fruition.

Great fun! One slight comment I would make is that the Exmortis look slightly hackneyed; I liked that game Purgatory because it didn't really show you anything (e.g. a shadow of a demon-like thing at one point, but not the demon itself.
But anyway, a brilliant game, with amazing artwork and sound. Thanks Ben for making it, and Jay for showing me it!
I really like the fact that this game has captions. Most of the time I am unable to play games with the sound on and I am also hard of hearing so if the diction is not clear, spoken text is incredibly helpful. It is the little things liek that which really make the game play for me all hte more enjoyable.
Very nice sequel! I especially enjoyed all of the "extra" texts that helped to flesh out the storyline. The inclusion of sudoku was a nice little bonus, too. :)
Scary parts:
The female apparition in the vent/duct really scared the crap out of me. The rest of the scenes in the game weren't as startling, but they did a fantastic job of keeping me in a constant state of uneasiness and suspicion: I kept thinking that something would emerge from the bathtub, or even from behind the book/diary after I finished reading it. So I guess in that sense, I kept on scaring myself more than the game did. ;)
Very satisfying game for a person like me who has this enormous appetite and a constant hunger for 'Point and Click' games, especially in the genre of horror ones. Accompanied with both a good storyline and quality graphics and detailing, it makes a wonderful game to spend time on.
I loved the side story in it, for I did not follow the original episode too carefully. The news clippings were not too consistent, some in past tense, some in present tense, some with quotations dominating the entire article, but I would guess that the man who lived in the house tried to acquire as many sources of newspapers as possible, which makes one think how exactly that was possible for him, with nearly the entire state in panic.
Wasn't too long of a game either, and my only complaint is that the game's end is somewhat leaving me with a hole, of feeling a little disappointed. Kind of a 'Dang it.. there should have been more to this.' But you know, there's always room for a twist like this.
Exmortis 2 was a little less freaky than the first in terms of atmosphere and audio effects, but that does not make the sequel less great. For one thing, the introduction in the original episode was enough to kill a man dead cold, so moving on to Exmortis 2 was more comfortable.
I definitely noticed the what I would have otherwise called it 'Product Placement' in the CB Radio part, except it wasn't really a product, but more of a brand exposure and a win-win situation thing. It definitely explains why Ben Leffler placed the urls there, (game and walkthrough hosting) and for that reason, I'm pleased that jayisgames is hosting it as well, because I love this site!
Although I would be a tad hesitant to note that the walkthrough does contain typos at different parts. One of which I found in Chapter 3: Dominion
//A large ring suddenly appears off the horizon and surrounded by symbols you have never scene before .. //
That might be 'seen' instead, but it's easy to be dismissed, even by myself. Overall though, it's a great job by Ben, and he's got a fan waiting for more of his works. :D
Ben, your determination paid off. The graphics, sound, narrative elements, consistency of animations and atmosphere are all improved this time around. As a graphic designer, I know how much work went into this, impressive. The puzzles involve different types of play (though still mostly find-the-key-or-object goals), and navigation is better. It feels more professional.
Things that still need improvement: The puzzles are pretty patchy, difficulty levels ragged, and some elements too railroaded (only one option to choose, timed or untimed). Maybe chat with a few enthusiasts about the game/puzzle elements to integrate them better, make them feel less forced.
Most locations look like you took an immaculate pic and tried to dirty it, they don't look old and worn like the first. Outside locations kind of float in the middle of the frame, the composition isn't compelling. The game felt less inhabitable than Exmortis 1, maybe because there were fewer things to interact with, and the existing hotspots sometimes detracted (running faucets and flushing the toilet aren't atmospheric).
The writing has improved, but not enough. Definitely use American spellings for an American setting (the ones I noticed were where we use a z instead of s, -ized).
The captions at the bottom were good, but too obviously expository in places, thoughts and comments no one would ever actually have. Varying the length of comments would help, too.
The diary was all over the place, using vocab and expressions out of character for that writer and a personal diary (or suicide note).
Xavier's writing seems modelled after H.P. Lovecraft or E.A. Poe, but they're almost impossible to write convincingly (Arcane also failed at this).
The entity first met at the church attempts poetic condescension, but is too clunky. I suggest teaming up with a writer for your next game, and check out some of the excellent Interactive Fiction (text adventures) written by Andrew Plotkin and others. I played a very atmospheric Lovecraftian IF game once, can't remember the title.
Kyle, the answer for the sudoku puzzle is starting from the left going diagnoly right, No i'm not nerd enough to know this, i used faq. And Tiff', to get out of the church (omfg, she really needs this?), all you have to do is (omfg, wow, cant believe i'm actually sayin this) click the door at the back of the room at the far left side. You know, the big brown piece of wood that you open up? Yup, that one. And since i know you will get stuck after that (and since i'm such a nice guy), after you get out of the church, the exmortis will come. Don't panic! There is a hanger on the car outside. Click it, it will go in your inventory. Next, move the mouse down to the floor boards you are standing on. If you click on it, you will get keys for the car. Click on the car, then high tail it to the house, which is the next chapter. No, there isn't a driving level or anything.
Y'know, I personally think that making too many sequals to this game, will eventually run it out.
After the figure appeared in the confessionary booth, I couldn't exit the church (I couldn't find any door to click which would lead me out =\) so I gave up and read the walkthrough. It seems to get pretty intense later on, and actually seemed to have that "boo" effect on you, where you had to speed up your actions or else. This was originally at the end of the first game, so, it's varied.
And, well. I'm a total wimp tbh. Even if I play with my bf, we're both scared sometimes, (hehe).
Hopefully, he'll continue to make other titles similar to this <3
sudako, puzzle??, c'mon, what the heck is that,,im 43,and never heard of it,whats wrong with chess or chinese checkers.
the puzzles are impossible to solve,i completed, myst, and riven, and even harder, but this game?
i look all over, clicking and nothing happens,,with walkthrough, its there, hmmmmmmmm.
guess you cant see most things on a laptop,
could be a great game, needs work.
Hey D - even my mother is a Sudoku jockey, and she's nearly 70. What rock did you just crawl out from under? ;) Sudoku is carried in thousands of newspapers around the world plus numerous best-selling books.
Since the puzzle in the game reveals a numerical combination, chess or chinese checkers just wouldn't have cut it.
Just finished the game, took a deep breath and checked to see how bad I soiled my pants. Hats off to Ben Leffler! By the way, friend. For what to do next, you must...

ive played the game rite through to the kitchen and down into the celler
ive found the radio and now have the gun, screw driver, some key that i found near the pin board in the bedrooms and the lighter
So what do i do now ?
im just sat in the kitchen and have no clue where to go or what to do. please help
Also what is an URL it has something to do with the radio i gues but what is it n what do ya do im stuck and would really like to finsih this game, thanks to anyone that can help
What spooky, grim stuff! Ben has timing down to a frightening art. Just waiting for scenes to fade in again make me more anxious than potential gore.
I had an intuition that shady bastard wasn't legit, and I was right. It's not that the story makes it obvious (the suspense is partly built up on simply *not* knowing if your actions will make a lick of difference for what pathetic mortals are left), I'm just fairly good at picking these twists out.
Eagerly awaiting a third installment.
Hey--Well hopefully SOMEONE can help me. I played Exmortis today and it was awesome so I'm trying to play Exmortis 2 and everything goes right until I'm supposed to click on the door in the left corner..the door won't open..it doesn't do anything. We have highspeed so I have no idea why the game won't work..help??
Just wanted to say I figured out how to open that door-=P This game is INCREDIBLE..I can't find any games like it! Have any suggestions?! It was so much fun, interesting twist there at the end! It was very suspensful, thrilling, and pretty scary! Even my boyfriend thought it looked cool! Thanks! -Tay
For help with the Sudoku puzzel go here
Just fill in the numbers that you want and keep clicking solve step to complete it.
I absolutely love both the first and second games. I'm at the end in the tunnel and can't kill the creatures coming towards me. I know i have to use the gun and click on the creatures to kill them. It's not working. I keep clicking on creatures and they don't die. I end up dying. The gun is in my hand but it's not working. I click and click away and the gun should shoot, but it's not working. Can someone tell me if i'm doing something wrong maybe? I wouldn't be here if I didn't link up the lights properly and go thru the portal to get back to earth. So why doesn't shooting these creatures work?
Pleassssssseeeeeee help. This is sooooo frustrating
Thanks so much

noticed a spelling mistake..!
at the end when you see the figure from the church at the end of the tunnel, he refers to you as Mr. Hanny, when earlier he referred to you as Mr. Hannay. He prnounces your name as Hannay, and right before he kills you at the end, he calls you Mr. Hannay again. the mistake is at the end, when he first cals you by name, its spelt wrong
hey the game exmortis 2 is great and i thank ben for making a hard tricky game to try to figure out but if your trying to get out of the church look for this closet thing and the key to the car is under the screen and by the way if your wanting to know how to unlock that toolbox look in the room where the guy is hanging dead and look for a suduko thing on the table
thanks The Expert
Marvelous game!
I did go to the hints once, and that was just because I am not one for
Sudoku - or number games in general
.
I like how the game is somewhat linear so it's hard to back yourself into a corner after a bunch of work. And the narrative work in the
diaries and newspapers
really added to the creepy feel because of tie ins and anticipation.
I always get creeped out by these games so I play at noon on a sunny day! Exmortis 3 should be interesting, if it's made. Will one be a pawn? or a hero? or just plain DEAD.
Basically, this is the most scary and awesome game I have ever watched my friends play on my computer. Yes, you heard me.. It was too scary for me to play alone, so I got someone to play while I watched. They called me a wuss, but hey.. I watched Hostel, and after taht I have gotten more of a scaredypanties. Anyways.. Awesome series, I am definatly going to get one of my friends to play Ep 3 of this ;)
Only thing I didn't quite understand was
the ending.. Coz basically, if you kill what can stop Vlaew, and you die afterwards.. There's no stopping him.. And why were those things even evil?
If they're ment to stop Vlaew, aren't they supposed to be good?
Basically, you're screwed right there!
Otherwise.. AWEZOME! =)
omg, ive known about the second exmortis for a while, but i couldnt play it. because my computer wouldnt load it..... so i finally got to play it in my spanish class. so i got to the (i dont know if this is a spoiler, but ill put it anyways)
crawlspace, everything seemed fine. i look away, and looked back, and that lady popped out, and i screamed sooo loud. and like covered my face with my eyes and started cryin
and these 2 guys came over and were like "whats wrong? OHH COOL! I WANNA PLAY THIS GAME!" whatever... thanks for helpin me guys! lol
btw. great game, i can't wait untill the 3rd one!
This was very cool at atmospheric, and I loved it...
But it's not so much a game as more a piece of interactive fiction. It's all about the backstory and the sense of dread with the sky darkening and whatnot.
I understand why people feel a little ripped-off by the ending. As a topper to a game, it's a little bit of a let-down. (Though a good opening into part two.)
Yes, the puzzles were fairly easy (though as someone who never, ever plays Sudoku, I was stonewalled by that one), but I wasn't in it for the puzzles, I was sucked into the story and the atmosphere. Really, really good atmosphere.
My only real complaint: For a game, there's a LOT of reading required. Even more than the last chapter. If I wasn't so into it, I might have gotten really pissed off.
In the end, I love the world of this game, and I'd love to see a cool FPS based on it with the same scare factor built in. Obviously you'd need a major game company to make that a reality, but there's real potential here for something bigger.
Nice work! Let's see part three!
Played both 1 & 2...loved them both. (:
Also, for the peeps who NEED HELP WITH THE SCREW DRIVER...
When you first open the box, it will say you see nothing of immideate use there. You can only get the screw driver AFTER you have used the lighter to light up the crawlspace. After that thing pops out, and you talk to Xavier, go through the crawlspace until you come to a vent. The vent will be held in place by SCREWS that are too tight to pull off by hand. At this point ONLY should you go back to the clost. Then when you click on the box, you will get the screw driver. Hope this helps...=]
Oh, and "Lean Lark"? Chill out? Don't be such a critic on something that's ment to be entertaining. It just makes you look like a jerk who wants to make him (or her?) self look superior. It's a game. So don't make such a big deal about it, ne? ^^
These games are brilliantly done, and I would LOVE to see them made into movies. Can't wait for the next one. :3
im alone at home,it's almost midnight now and i stumble upon this game called exmortis 2...i thought what the heck must be some cheesy ghost game same cliche or must be one of those game where halfway through a picture of linda blair in exorcist appears out of nowhere..but heck no...this bloody game scared the holy jesus and hail mary's outta me...congrats to ben for this game coz not many things scare me...trust me i made fun of juon mwahaha!!!
omg this gamne was sssoooooooo much fun i never thought these kind of games would be cool, but this one blew me outa the water!!!!! the first one wass soo har i had to get cheats online the second one i beat quickly there are very few game that offer this unique kind of terror and reality omg it was just so AWSOME!!!!!
To all the people bashing this game...It's an online flash game, which means some guy sat down and programmed the whole thing from start to finish, checked it and put it up online for you to play for free. Whining about how easy it was? Have you ever played a really difficult flash p&c that didn't require pixel hunting to find obscure items or areas? There are hundreds of online games available, if you make the game too hard, people will just click on another game and forget about yours. This wasn't meant to be Halo 3 or something people, take it for what it is and be thankful the guy put in as much work as he did. Cool game IMO.
great game and I play this game at 12:00 pm LOL!
I don't think this game is very scary at all.....
Instant I think this game is kind of stupid.
You get killed at the end and help that ancient evil guy get rid of the exmortis so he can rule the earth.
But overall is a great game look forward to exmotris3.
(if you going to create one that is)
I would like to apologize for my earlier comments on this game, I just reviewed the material I posted months back and realized how insensitive they were. After replaying the game, I have to give the designer a round of applause for making a shockingly in depth point and click. The graphics, music and smooth style of play really came to gether to create a "frightening" point and click adventure which so few of these games portray well. It draws the player into the plot and keeps them playing. However I would have like to have seen the story more incorporated into the game itself, alot of the time I just wandered through the map aimlessly clicking on everything in the screen. This method worked for me, but it didn't draw me further into the game. Including the items within the text might have given me a better idea of where to go. Yes it was rather easy. Some have commented that it keeps people playing, however I would have liked a spin or 2 here or there to keep me guessing perhaps some more puzzles. It was very interesting to play and kept me entertained, congrats on a well designed game.
The game was great and really scary, I can't wait for exmortis 3!
It was abit short though and was the dood your playing Joe? Because it said that Joe pulled up outside and the exmortis were already there, and when you went into the corridor the dood was barracating the door, so.....
Any way it was totally awesome and can't wait for the next =P
The sucky ending was deliberate. I think I'll go hunt down Ben and give him a whack in the head for that. I live in Australia anyway. >:)
Say, if I were put in that position in reality, fleeing from the Exmortis for my life's sake, then receiving this gift: a quick death, I'd be pretty pissed. Pissed... that is, when I walk the earth as a ghost and haunt Ben witless. We'll see how he likes that!
*Puts on an evil grin, then blurs from the spot in which I am standing.*

An amusing horror game with some imagination and atmosphere and an interesting, if a bit predictable storyline. At the risk of offending, though, I feel the need to express concern that a game with content this perversely violent and nihilistic may be unwisely put freely into circulation online (I have seen a link to it on a what appeared to be a site for children). Call me crazy, but even having enjoyed the experience I would rather have gone through more secure methods in order to play it so that children can be spared potentially negatively influential and psychologically disturbing material. Sorry if this thinking seems naive but I am of the opinion that the lax nature of restraint (or to use a 'dirty' word: censorship) in society, past and present can be stunting and otherwise damaging for certain individuals and by extension society at large. End of sermon.
i have a really good idea for two more sequels, even though they are not really sequels to the events of the first and second game. idea for third one: you play as a sort of rebel exmortis trying to kill vlad but are killed when you go into his chamber. my idea for the fourth is: you wake up as the same character 5 years after the events of the third but you are in a human base. after you find out the people there have been slaughtered you make your way back to vlaed's chamber and kill him. oh btw im sorry that i didnt put spoilers jay because i dont think im really spoiling anything for the people that havent played the first and second.
At the end, i would have quickly, without warning, plunged the dagger into the guy's lower back, paralyzing him, then sent a bullet rocketing through his head. this game is not scary, as you can expect everything that happens. exept the vent, i shot into that thing like 50 time just for the heck of the kill
LOVED IT!!!
As an escape game addict, I have to say this is one of my favorites.
Beautifully done -- scary, challenging yet intuitive, well-written (both a rare treat and rather a necessity considering the large amount of reading), and the controls were excellent for this type of game.
Thanks for this one! :)
PS-Loved the sudoku puzzle, btw, probably the first puzzle I've finished for the fun of it even after I'd gotten the combination. lol
One of my fav! I love Leffler's games. I kept expecting something to pop up behind the shower curtain and after I put down stuff. His ideas are so original! I can't wait till the third comes out!
For some reason people seem a bit confused at the ending and where the exmortis fit in.
Vlaew is evil the exmortis are evil, that should be a given. They just weren't on the same page. The character you play was used by Vlaew to stop the exmortis after they had killed everyone because he couldn't control them.
What Vlaew says in the end is "A quick death" not that hard is it? Really compared to what you'd have to face should he not kill you, my opinion is you're better off dead. At least you weren't ripped to shreds by crazy little demons.
I still can't figure out how to pronounce Vlaew though, LOL.
Really fab game. The whole thing was quite spooky, and the ending was...suprising yet a bit disappointing since:
the guy you've pretty much been working for takes over the world and kills you, so basically you've just doomed the planet...not good...
But the rest of it was fab! Hope they make a third one!
IF YOU DON'T GET THE ENDING!:
okay...so basically, Lord Vaewl or whatever killed you....ik suckish ending lol
So lord Vaewl dude was the lord of the exmortis once. But then he got banished for some reason, idk. So now, he wants all the exmortis to be gone, so he can rule the world again. He finds you, and yea...he wants you to kill the exmortis, and you do, so his like, "Well, the works done! Thank you for killing the exmortis... here's your gift..." THE GIFT IS THAT LORD DUDE KILLS YOU, HE DOESN'T KILL HIMSELF! I really don't know what the next game will be like, or the main idea is, but I hope they have some humans in there lol so yea...hoped it helped! But the part that I really don't understand is y can't the dude that lord dude killed had to die? Why can't he still live?
Okay now the spoiler things are working lol
HERE'S HOW YOU DO THE LIGHTING THINGIES!:
So once you get the dager from the bible, you go to the hallway, and you see that dude in the door right infront of you. If you have some headphones on or something, he says, "Come here" and that stuff lol I wasn't listening to him 8-Xr
and so then you go to that, and right in front of you, you see like a chair, and around it is some marks and that stuff. You have a gun with you, so you click on that gun, and when you see the gun in ur hand, click the gun again. Then you shoot urself...but ur not dead so don't worry lol Then you do the lightning things! Follow the directions in the walkthrough :D hope that helps 2! bye
I opened the game up and immediately flashed back to the first Exmortis title.
I haven't played this one yet because I was introduced to a friend via a single post where she said "Just finished Exmortis 2. VERY disappointed."
But anyway, is this game going to have a ton of Jump-scares? I hate those. I turned off the sound for Exmortis 1 because of those, but that meant that I didn't hear any of the important audio near the end.

Well, good graphic and sound, overall.
Not much to say about story-line, because I skipped almost all journals, expect the diary
(my vocabulary is bad and I was too lazy to open dictionary / Google translate T.T)
QUICK DEATH?? Just as I thought...
Right before last scene, I scrolled down the page so I couldn't see what happened :P
