A very creepy, very scary Flash adventure game from Ben Leffler of Australia. Exmortis begins with you waking up in the woods with a lump on your head and unable to recall how you got there. All you recall are the dreams. Regaining focus, you see a house up ahead and decide that shelter there is better than freezing to death in the woods. Think of the house at the end of Blair Witch and you'll be right at home.

It's was that scary, and I couldn't play it with sound. Call me coward if you want to, but I won't put the sound in parts such as the one of the murder, or in Gwen's room.
I think that seeing the areas is quite enough for a heart attack, or a couple of dirty pants. Trust me.
By the way, I got completely scared when I saw that phantom, or the words "Remember". There is a lot that I have to discover from this game, I just expect myself to have the enough strength to dare to watch.

you game is cool and all it is really scary!! but im confused there is that combonation lock behind that one painting.. and how do you ge the combonation.. do you have to ge the power put back on or something.. and with that cellar. how do you open that door it says taht it looks like someone is holding it shut...and i dont know what do do in the library all taht is shows is some journals... well if anyone can tell me hoe to finish this game i would be so happy... email me if you can tell me anything. at [email protected].. thanks
I Have been playing this game for the past 2 hours.. and i just CANT figure out what to do next!!! i've tried EVERYTHING! i've clicked on EVERY INCH of the whole game! and NOTHING... I read all the things i found.. i went into EVERY room i found... i opened the safe.. i've been EVERYWHERE!!!! and i am COMPLETELY STUCK! i've beeen back in each of the rooms and hallways over 20 times.. and NOTHING! does ANYBODY KNOW WHAT TO DO?!?! Exmortis Walkthrough
The Woods
You have just regained consciousness in the cold isolated woods. You have no memory of who or where you are. All you know is that you have a splitting headache, and the only way you will make it through the night without dying of exposure is by finding shelter. You are in luck though as you see an old house in a clearing. It looks aged and unoccupied, so you decide to shelter there until day break.
Click on the front door of the house and you will approach the front door.

Click on the right door to enter the house.
Main Entrance
You're sheltered from the gale force winds inside the house, and going on looks the place doesn't look any better from the inside than it did from the outside. You think you can hear a soft dull whispering in the background, but you just put it off to the wind playing tricks. The door behind you has buckled and jammed, so you can no longer use that exit.
Click on the staircase to go to the second level.
2nd Level Hallway
You see a window with moonlight streaming through the sweeping clouds.

The walls and roof thumps hard and dull, like someone or something is trying to bring something to your attention. You notice that there is a hatch on the roof. This might lead to an attic which could explain where the thumping is coming from.

Attic
You coil back in surprise and horror after entering the attic. A human torso is strung up by it's arms, literally ripped to shreds and missing it's lower extremities. Who could do such a thing? It is now that you realise that you have stumbled upon something sinister and ghastly. But this house may hold the answers to who you are and what you were doing in the woods.
You notice something smeared in blood on a wooden plank near the front of the body.

Once you have returned to the attic scene (hit the down arrow symbol) you notice something else sketched in to the right hand wall of the attic.

The numbers read 3489. You remember these, as they may be important later on. You return to the 2nd Level Hallway, where you entered the attic.
2nd Level Hallway
Click on the door in front of you to enter the main bedroom
Main Bedroom
Another scene that tells of the murder that stains the house. A bed that is soaked in the blood of it's victim. A roof lamp that sways in no breeze. A gramophone that is not powered, yet spins waiting for a record to be played. A painting. A painting... of a landscape familiar to you. You just can't pick why that is.
Click on the painting on the wall
You find a safe built in to the wall behind the painting. Wow - that's pretty original, don't you think? I bet you didn't see that coming!

You remember the code from the attic. Maybe that will work?
Enter the code: 3489
Success! The safe swings open, and before you lies another symbol and what appears to be a human heart. I hope you're taking note of the appearance of the symbols. This could be vital later on.
Click on the book and read all that is written
The book titled "Exmortis" describes a time before man roamed the earth. When ancient beings of great ethereal power ruled it's kingdoms. It talks of their greed and lust for power - a nature which eventually lead to their downfall. It talks of the last surviving ancient - and entity named Vlaew, who's cunning saw him survive his fellow Ancients, until his physical form was taken from him by treacherous lesser demons. Now he only exists in spirit form. Over the millennia, he consolidated his power with entities banished by man to form a legion of demons in one spiritual presence. He called this consolidated terror the Exmortis, and he ruled them with promises of return to the world one day to rule and return the Earth Realm to the glory of his days before man.
The book talks of how this will become. It talks of a single man who will be "anointed" with the blood of five, be transformed in to the hand of Exmortis - the physical link between the Earth Realm and the Spirit Realm which Vlaew now resided. The hand is destined to lead the Exmortis armies and lay siege to the World of Man, returning Vlaew to his rightful place of rule.
One particular passage here seems crucial to remember. It reads: "Devoured the crimson life of five, marks of Vlaew given to thee. Mirrored below the soul survive, what was, what is and what will be."
Return to the Main Bedroom scene.

The bathroom is splattered with blood and the bathtub is filled with the thick viscous liquid as well. There is not much here to help, but closer examination of the sink could prove fruitful.

There is nothing left to do at the moment on the 2nd Level of the house. Return to the Main Entrance.

You now want to explore the rest of the house to see what else you can find that will help explain your presence here.

You enter the dark hallway, and pause for a moment to gain your confidence. Suddenly out of nowhere, and apparition screams in to existence at the end of the hall - disappearing as quickly as it came to be. Could this have been a hallucination? Or perhaps it is a warning of some sort? In any case, you decide to press onwards despite being confronted by this unsettling sight.

You are presented with a junction point, split by an old grandfather clock ticking away the hours. There is something strange about the face of this clock.

(Take note of the numbers on the face of the clock. Pay particular note to the roman numeral VI - specifically the V. This is a symbol/character which will pop up in the next room.)

Kitchen
You enter the kitchen, and the first thing you notice is all the blood. It stains the floor trailing under the door, as well as forming a pool on the bench top immediately under the microwave oven. What's more disturbing is that blood is dripping from under the closed door of the microwave. With a deep breath you decide to examine it closely.

You find a severed head within, and there seems to be something smeared on the forehead.

Upon closer examination of the severed head, you find a familiar symbol smeared on the forehead. It is exactly the same symbol as the character V from the clock face in the Ground Floor Hall. You can't stand to look at the remains of the poor soul, so you close the door and search the kitchen further.

All the cupboards are empty with the exception of the cupboard second from the left. You find a bloodied knife within. While it seems like a worthy weapon against whoever is committing these heinous atrocities, you decide to leave it and look for a larger weapon.
After not finding anything else within the kitchen, you decide to push forward past the door that the blood stains trail under.

Loungeroom
More blood in this room. It seems that this is where two people were murdered, as blood stains as many chairs. The only thing that you feel is worthy of examination in this room is the diary sitting on the dining table.

The diary tells a tale of a hunter who stumbled across the house, and after some time he found himself somehow drawn back to it. This man found the book from the safe upstairs and read the passages within. The diary continues to tell the tale of how the Exmortis entities held him a prisoner in the house for years, draining him of his sanity and humanity. Before long, this man was brainwashed in to believing that he would become "more than human" by partaking in a ritualistic sacrifice of five approaching campers, marking them each with a special symbol. So far you have found three of the symbols.
A question burns your mind. Could you be one of the surviving campers? Could you have escaped this house of horrors, only to inadvertently return with no memory of what you were running from? If that is the case, you have to get out of there even if it means braving the freezing conditions outside.
You decide to return to the Ground Floor Hall and explore the adjacent room.
Ground Floor Hall
Click on the door to use the key to enter the left to enter the Library
Library
Another murder committed in this room built to be a tome of knowledge. A severed arm rests upon the desk to the right, and you notice that it too has a symbol smeared in blood on the desk at it's fingertips.

A bust sits above the old smoky fireplace, and you swear to yourself that it's eyes move and follow you closely around the room. Beside it the mirror has been stained in the blood of this victim. Spelt upon the surface is the word "remember." Is it meant for you? Or someone else?
In the bookshelf to the left, you find a volume of encyclopaedias.

You look at the spines of these books closely. They are catalogued alphabetically and upwards from A. The A looks familiar (it actually looks like the symbol left at the fingertips of the severed arm.) This could have some significance.
Stepping back from that particular shelf, you turn your attention to the shelves on the right. A particular book stands out here, so you examine it closely.

The diary recounts the tale of the author's daughter Gwen Rehayem, who was taken possession of by the mighty entities of the Exmortis. It continues to tell of how Xavier made the ultimate sacrifice, attempting to save his only daughter by taking her life in the second bedroom upstairs.
Leaving the Library, you return to the Dark Hallway.

You decide to check out the Cellar purely out of interest, not really necessity.

There is nothing in here except rubble and waste. But there is a door however.
Click on the door to get a message from the spirits
You hear whispers from all around you. "You must first remember, only then shall you pass" they advise you. Remember? That's the second time you've been instructed to remember. What do you have to do with this house? What should you remember? Then it hits you - there is someone who may be able to help. The apparition of Gwen Rehayem.
Go back up to the second level, but instead of turning right to go to the main bedroom, turn left and you will be at the door of Gwen Rehayem's old room. If you have read Xavier's diary, then at this point you will hear a ghostly sob at the door (which is now ajar)
2nd Level Hallway

Gwen's Bedroom
You enter Gwen's Bedroom, and suddenly your heart thumps heavily as another apparition stands before you. Just as Xavier Rehayem described in his journal, the ghostly apparition of his daughter stands in the corner watching silently over you. You look at the bed, still wet and stained with her 100 year old blood - and you think 'how is this possible?' But really, everything you have experienced in this house so far defies explanation - why should this room be any different?
You decide to try and talk to the ghostly form of Gwen to see if she can shed some light on what you should be remembering.

She steps forwards, and her face distorts grotesquely as a shrill scream echoes past her ghostly lips. The sound bounces of the walls of your skull, as your brain struggles to cope with the sensory overload. Your vision distorts, and before you can escape the room you black out.
Suddenly you snap back in to consciousness, or were you brought back? You decide it might be time to get out of the house, but the front door is no longer accessible. That means the only way out of this place is via the cellar - as per the tattered diary you read earlier.
Cellar Entrance
You return to the Cellar Entrance only to find that this time the door can be opened. What ever force that was holding it closed before, is now allowing your passage through this area.

Cellar
You enter the cellar, but suddenly the door behind you slams shut and locks! It seems that something is leading you down here, and what ever it is - you can almost feel it breathing down your neck.
In the cellar, you see an old air filtration unit, but oddly the piping leads away from the house above and in to a wall surrounded by makeshift boarding. Against the wall to the right, you see a bloodied axe. This could be a good opportunity to arm yourself against the resident maniac of the house.

Now the only problem remaining is getting out of the cellar. The door has locked tightly behind you, so it seems that you will have to break through the boarding. Using the axe, you tear in to the wooden planks.

Behind where the boards had been, you notice a stairwell leading further down. It seems that this is the only exit, and you decide to take it.
Underground Tunnels
A tunnel system under such a rural house? This seems highly unusual. Admittedly these tunnels seem very very old, and were probably here before the house was. A strong gust blows back through the doorway, which means there must be an exit down here somewhere. You push on forward.

You enter another tunnel, but this one has an exit ahead and to the left. Unfortunately, the exit on the left is a dead end if you don't have a key to unlock the door, so it is best that you explore further ahead to see if you can locate this key.

A rocky tunnel, but ahead you see a faint flickering glare. You press forward to investigate.

Out of the darkness, you hear a voice "I'll kill you, you son-of-a-bitch!" Gripping on to the axe, you realise that this could be the murdering bastard you've been expecting to pop up. Suddenly he lets out a blood curdling scream as he rushes at you with knife in hand. But a knife is no match for the reach of an axe. Just as he is in striking distance you lash out at his jugular.

You time your swing perfectly, and just as he is in mid leap, your axe blade slices his head off cleanly. His crumpled body falls to your feet, but the force of the blow sees his head fly backwards down the tunnel until it comes to rest on the ground in front of you. You take a closer look at the head to see if you can recognise him, when suddenly a symbol appears on his forehead.
But that must mean that this was the fifth victim and this can not be the murdering fiend. Staggering back, you realise the implications this has for you and your sanity. "Then who am I?" you ask yourself, but you already realise what the answer to that is. The first main question has been answered. You now know that the murdering fiend is actually you. You are not the victim, nor were you ever one of the campers. You are the person who stumbled across this house way back in 1997, only to be kept prisoner by demonic forces. Spending year after year here, losing your sanity and always clinging on to the last thread of humanity.
So how did you get outside? How did you lose all your memory and regain some semblance of rationale? Too many questions and not enough answers. You push forward knowing that the answer lies behind one last locked door.

You come to a dead end in the tunnel, but you spot a small hole in the stone wall.

This must be the key for the locked door. You go back to the locked entrance to try out the key. You notice that there is a sign on the top of the archway "Temple of Exmortis" This would explain why there is a house built out in this wilderness. It seems that this used to be the site of worship for the recluse Cult of Exmortis which died out so long ago. Buried beneath the earth for many centuries, it has been kept from intruders and the light of day in wait of the rising of Exmortis once again. In wait for you to become the link between them and the world.

The door closes and locks behind you. It seems that here will be the place where you face your destiny. A ghostly face materializes in front of you. The face of Vlaew. "Welcome back child. You have served us well up until this point. Now serve us again. Become the hand of Exmortis!"
You look ahead and find a pentagram imprinted on the brick pillar. The five symbols listed below it.
This is where you choose your destiny. Do you become the hand of Exmortis by solving the puzzle, or do you run for your life by taking the exit to the left of your view?
The Puzzle
So you have decided to succumb to the Exmortis and sit at the right hand of Lord Vlaew.
The key to this puzzle is the passage in the book of Exmortis. The passage is recited one more time when you approach the pillar. "Devoured the crimson life of five, marks of Vlaew given to thee. Mirrored below the soul survive, what was, what is and what will be."
The keys here are the phrases "Marks of VLAEW" and "Mirrored below". Taking the symbols you have collected and placing a mirror below them you will see that they look very similar to the letters L, W, A, V and E. All of these are letters used in the name of the Ancient, Vlaew. Clues to this are in the clock face from the house - the roman numeral "V" was the same as one of the symbols turned upside down. The encyclopaedia volumes from the library also used the symbols representing A and E in a mirrored capacity.
So now we know that the order of the symbols collected are V, L, A, E and W respectively. But the puzzle isn't going to be this straight forward. The painting on the wall in the Dark Hallway had a picture of a pentagram with numbers at each point. You must place the appropriate symbol at the appropriate point on the pentagram starting at the top left circle and moving around the circles in a clockwise direction.
Essentially, the sequence you will need to click on the symbols to place them appropriately is V, E, L, W, and finally A.
Suddenly the end of the dark temple passage lights up. It's blinding intensity finally captures and engulfs you. You feel your last remaining humanity slip away, but the power of many surges through your veins. So this is what immortality feels like. You arch your back, scream and then it's all over. You black out - your transformation from slave to conqueror is over. You have become the hand of Exmortis. The end of the game flashes with your evil triumph. First the Cult of Exmortis gained strength from luring many followers. And then it crushed all human rule - returning Lord Vlaew to his rightful throne of the Earth Realm.

Running For Your Life!
Making a run for the forest - now that's a bold move. One that the demons of the Exmortis will not like one little bit. You've taken the doorway to your left of the temple, and a booming voice filled with rage and malevolence fills the tunnel. "Foolish man! You will pay for your defiance!"
You listen, and off in the distance you hear a roar. Screams. Terror! And it's getting louder - it seems the Exmortis is coming for you. It invested too many years preparing you to become their link to let you deny them when the time was at hand. If you know what's good for you, you'll make a beeline for the Woods, and you'll make it snappy before they catch up to you!

Another tunnel - but from here it should be easy. Just keep clicking the exits to get out of there. You'll eventually reach a door.

The Woods
Congratulations - you've escaped the tunnels, the only place the Exmortis has any physical influence on your human form. Now all that's left for you is to make your way back to civilisation. That's if you can survive the freezing conditions outside long enough. You see a makeshift track wind out in front of you.

You continue on the track, noting that an eerie mist settles over the surrounding forest.

Finally, you've come across a larger track that seems to be well used. You are certain that following it will lead you back to civilisation.

Suddenly you fall backwards as something jumps out in front of you. Losing your footing, you slip and hit the ground hard knocking yourself unconscious in the process.
The dreams haunt your unconscious state. Suddenly you snap out of it. Not knowing where you are, or why you are there - you realise how cold you are. All you can remember are the dreams (or are they memories?) It is dark, and you don't think you'll make it through the night unless you can find shelter. Wait - up ahead in the clearing you spot a house. You decide to shelter there for the night - anything is better than freezing to death in the woods...

When I enter the door that I don`t want to open because the voices that I hear, I pick the axe and broke the wall 3 times, next I go and one zombie come to kill me but I cut his head with the axe. Next I watch his head and the last symbol appears that is when "he said":"If this is the fifth sacrifice and I am not one of the ones than was going to be killed, then who I am?
No... I can`t to be... No!" It`s that then I hear. I go forward and I see a hole in the wall I pick the key and go back to the strange door. But, the door CLOSES and I can`t get out of that creepy place! Please HELP ME! For that door open before you enter is necesary you find all symbols like the head, close to the arm, torso, and the book. Don`t forgotten to help me!

Hey there Ben! Exmortis was an awesome game, the graphics, sound, and the intensity of the action would hit you with the force of a .50 Magnum titanium rifle slug. I have a little question to ask though. How did you get your idea for such a game? Did the Cult of Exmortis exist, did Vlaew exist, was there such a myth?, the book behind the safe sounded almost like it is directly taken from the Bible. I'm asking this because I'm working on a short novel titled "Dawn", a combination sci-fi horror depicting a future society in which love and compassion does not exist. Warp drive had been developed, and Earth, nicknamed the Galateans, are plunged into a vicious war with two alien races, the Aurorans, and a murky planet located in the middle of the M87 Galaxy-Zarkahl. I'm giving you this information because "Dawn" is a very religious oriented story, with the ultimate showdown between good and evil will result in a war that will decimate mankind. Inside is the true Cult of Adramelech, which live children were sacrificed and burned to please the Second in Command of Hell after Satan himself> The sudden and mysterious revival of this ancient cult in year 2303 will lead to the final war where a mighty fleet of combined Auroran and Zarkahlan forces arrive and vaporize the entire planet with phaser weapons. I just want to ask you if the story behind Exmortis is true or based on true facts here and there.
Please email me as soon as possible and congratulations for creating such a powerful, mysterious, and terrifying game. To all the fans, if you like the game, you will like the novel "Dawn", which I will finish by the end of the year.

I couldn't figure out how to input the symbols in the basement pentagram, so I just made a run for it to the woods. Would it be possible for someone to give a spoiler for the pentagram?? I would like to go back and see if there is a different ending, but I don't want to replay the game to get stuck at that part again
I'll post a walkthrough that gets you right to the end:
- click the mansion's door to go up to it
- click the door to go in
- go up the steps
- go right
- open the hatch in the roof and go up to the attic
- look at the numbers on the wall and the symbol on the floor. If you have trouble finding them, jus press tab repeatedly until they're highlighted
- go back down and through the door
- click the painting and use the safe
- input the code you saw in the attic
- read the book if you want, but all that's really necessary is to click on the symbol
- exit the safe and then click on the next door to enter the bathroom
- click on the sink to get the key
- go all the way back downstairs
- go left into the dark hallway
- continue down the hallway
- use the right door
- open the microwave and click on what's inside to examine the symbol
- (not sure if this is necessary) go into the next room and read the diary
- exit back out to the area with the two doors and the clock
- go through the left door
- click on the bottom part of the left bookshelf and a row of books will come up. There's nothing you can do with them, but they seem to be necessary to proceed.

Ok, I'm a little frustrated. Me and my roommate have been playing this game for over an hour and so far have only been able to get past the safe.
We've already seen the vision of Gwen & clicked on her, and completed all the walk through steps that are posted above, but can't get the axe.
Is it the handle sticking up in the room leading to the cellar?
To be truthful, we've figured out the storyline (who the protagonist is, how it is most likely going to end) but we're really getting impatient with the whole thing.
Does the order of finding things/visiting rooms matter?
Okay, these are hints for the things most people seem to be having difficulty with:
1: To start the game from the woods, click the door of the house. It's on the left facing side of the building.
2: The combination for the safe is on the wall in the attic. A lot of people are missing this room out, but it is essential to complete the game.
3: To open the door to the cellar, you have to have examined all those body parts very carefully...
4: You CANNOT get the axe until you have opened the door in the cellar. Looking for it beforehand won't work, you can't access that room until later.
5: If you find yourself wishing you'd paid more attention earlier, do not despair...just try looking at things from a different perspective. Or go for option 2, it's your choice.
And for those who managed to complete it, big up. ;) If you enjoyed it, you'll probably also enjoy '5 Days a Stranger' which isn't flash, and looks much clunkier, but trust me, go along with the graphics and you'll find yourself well rewarded. The puzzles are much harder, the dialogue is very funny, and the atmosphere gets so creepy, you're literally afraid to open the next door for fear of what might happen in the cutscenes. Look it up on Google, you won't be disappointed. Oh...but be warned, it will drive you crazy for days. :D
Oh crap! was i supposed to run at the end or somthing becuase as soon as i get back to this room after killing the guy and getting the key it says go left but i can't go left its straight or backwards and the door behind me's like... shut ... how do i get out of the house after killing the guy getting the key and going back to the room with the axe?
I started off with the lights dimmed like it says, but after a few minutes I had to turn them back on like the big girl that I am. I played both endings, the becoming evil person ending first then the running like a girl ending. I thought the first one was a big anticlimax, with a game like this I'd want a really big scare at the end and it just kinda trickled. The second ending's ace though, and made me chuckle with the cleverness as well. Altogether pretty ace I thought, the only thing I didn't really like was the large amounts of small writing (I've lost my glasses and reading is giving me headaches at the moment). Gonna go sleep now, nice dreams for me!
This game certainly made an impression on me, as I had a well cool dream about it last night. It wasn't scary (well, a little bit in parts), but it did develop the story a bit. The one massive difference was that instead of being a deserted house in the middle of a forest, it was a university campus, and I was a student there. The beginning's a bit hazy, I remember something about the Bradford museum of Film and Photography (I think I was telling someone how ace it was). Anyway, I was in a classroom on my own, my friend who I had been with had forgotten who I was and left me, and hurled abuse at me everytime I called him. then in the room, someone was chopped to bits in front of me (it might have bee me doing it). I was really scared, and I left, and bumped into a rather pretty blonde girl who I had spoken to before and knew to be one of the evil exmortis people. I was trying to fight the exmortis, but she pointed out that I had black wings growing out of my back. I eralised I couldn't fight it and might as well just go with the flow. So I went down to the celler,, with a great sense of forboding. the celler looked the same as in the game until I got to a computer room (one of the big ones with sh*tloads of computers), where I could print out a code for deciphering the end code. I then ended up back at the first celler room, and found that if I clicked to the left of the boarded up door there was a lift door. I went down in the lift and ended up in what looked like halls of residence, except they were all open plan, but divided into different areas. it was done up allv ery white and minimalist. The first few areas I went to were obviously not being used, but then I started finding beds that obviously had people using them, with stuff in the drawers and on the beds. This struck me as very odd for some reason, probably going back to the game thing of the place being empty. After a while people started turning up there, and they were all student age people. One guy asked me to sign a form thing that would mean I could be involved in the celebrations and reap the benifits once exmortis' reign had started. I even brought in a bit of adventure game humour, after I'd signed the form one guy came up to me and asked if I'd taken stuff from some of the drawers. I admittied that I had and said "I'm playing an adventure game, I have to pick up anything that isn't nailed down". it all got a bit confusing after that, lots of running through corridors and talking on a mobile phone to soemone. Oh yeah, at one point I had a confrontation with someone and I thought I would have to stab them (in my dream, even when I was feeling really emotional about it, it was still an adventure game). So I clicked on his chest, but as I didn't have a knife I just hit him not very hard. He said "ow, that hurt, what was that for?" then walked off.
Probably none of you care about this, but it was a really cool dream, totally epic (I don't often have good dreams), and I wanted to get it down before I forgot it.

I'm gonna need these game makers to stop having friggin freaky music and sound effects followed by something jumping out at me and screaming, "Ooga booga!" Just beat this at work with ear buds in. That crap freaked my freak and I was trying desperately not to end up with wet pants in front of my co-workers.
AAAAAARRRRGGGGH!!!!! Ok where are all the body parts, because I'm pretty sure I missed one or two. I have four symbols, and I've retched at the torn limbs in the attic, saw the arm, the head[ick] and the heart. What am I missing!!!! Is there a leg in the house? A torso? I made the conection with what the crazy hunter dude said and the bathtub of blood, and I couldn't stop shudering for quite some time. I mean, if you really think about it...the incantation at the end of the book exmortis? there I go again, with the shuddering and gagging. btw what I just said has nothing to do with beating the game, it's just proof of a wonderful ability to develop plot in the story.

All that blood =_= those hallucinations were freaky. The severed head in the kitchen is what did it for me. I will never play this again O_O

Anyway, here we go
Go into house, go upstairs, go into the room on the right (not the attic) click the picture, click the safe "3489" and you're in. read The Exmortis, look at symbol, leave, go to the bathroom in the room, click sink, take library key, go back into the room (you won't have to go back in here) click on the ceiling, click on the symbol, you might not be able to see, it's by the body. The other thing is the number "3489". sound familiar? Leave attic. We are done with "hallway 1"
Go to the main entrance, now head down the hallway, wait a second then look down the hallway, That freaked me out the first time. Clik on the picture, anther hallucination should happen. You might need this info later so study well. Go into cellar room to your left. Check it out and leave. Hear the voices? now head down the hallway. Go into the door on your right and look in the microwave. TV dinner? Maybe for Hannibal Lector. Check out that sweet tatoo on his forehead, it's important. Go into second door and read the diary. Leave this room and the kitchen before it. Click on grandfather clock. Go to the library. check out everything. Most importantly the line of books on the left side of the fireplace and Xaviers book on the right. In order to enter Gwens room, you must read this. check out the symbol by the severed arm. Leave and go back upstairs. Congrats, you've finished the main Hallway!
Recap.
You've read all the books. You've seen two important pictures, Four symbols (A= Head, e= Guy in attic, F= Heart, U= Severed Arm), and had three freaky hallucinations.
Let's go back upstairs. It get's pretty easy from here but twice as freaky. Go left this time. Hear that giggle? Open the door. gwen is hanging out by the bed and she get's pissed if you poke her with your finger. So poke her, it's nescessary. A freaky voice tells you to wake up and you want to leave now. Go back to that room where someone is blocking the door, it's open now. Go inside, take the ax on the right side of your screen and chop away at the boards at left side.
Go down the tunnel, and you should come upon a room with two doors. One is pretty hard to see, it's on the left side of the room. You don't have to enter, nothing happens, Now continue down the tunnel, and about the fifth or fourth segment, crazy zombie guy attacks you and all you gotta do is click his freaky little head. It goes flying off and now you have seen the last symbol. (M) go down the rest of the way and click on the hole in the wall. Take the key from inside and go back into the room where there were two doors. Click on the second door. enter the next door and a big ol' white guy appears. Is you read The Exmortis than you know who this is, all others can call him satan, or stan for short. Decision time.
you can either decide to run or figure out the puzzle. Lucky for you, I have enough free time to have done both for you.
If you chicken out and run: In the room where you solve the puzzle, take the door on the left side of the room, Stan gets mad and starts chasing you. You have the option of two doors. The one in front is a dead end and takes up valuable time, the one one the right leads you outside. take that one and click everything that comes along. If you don't do it fast enough, or you took the dead end, then you die (stan sounds like R2D2 when he get's shot in star Wars) Once you're outside, click on the "path". Once at the end, just click the final part and you're done, by the way, the thing at the end made me jump.(does that make me a wuss?)
If you butch it out and solve the puzzle: It is really easy when you don't over think it. they look like letters in the Alphabet (ABC...) and match them up with their corresponding letter, put in alphabetical order, and you won and brought a manical crazy guy into power,(AEFMU, I've been reading up on it and the M is a W, the U is an A, and the A is a U. Confused? So was I.) good job.
I don't know about a third ending, I've only beaten it like these two.

Okay, check every room, read everybook (you don't really haveto, just click through it) unless you want story elements. Check all the symbols. The order of the symbols looks like alphabet symbols.

To win the pentagram thing, just put them in alphabetical order. I don't know the use of most of the pictures, or the clock. I don't know the third ending.
TO GET INTO THE BASEMENT. GO ON YOUR LITTLE ACID TRIP WITH GWENS GHOST AND THE DOOR IS NOW OPEN, GRAB THE AX AND CHOP AWAY AT THE BOARDED UP DOOR. GO DOWN THE HALLWAY AND KILL THE ZOMBIE DUDE. GO A BIT FURTHER, REACH INTO THE LITTLE HOLE AND GRAB THE KEY, HEAD BACK, GO INTO THE LOCKED ROOM, LISTEN TO SATAN AND EITHER SOLVE THE PUZZLE OR RUN AWAY.
Nothing too scary, the ghost at the end of the hallway when you find the library key freaked me out a bit.

X.X Tis scary, I thought you guys were just joking but when the intro was playing, a head popped out and freaked me out already! So I told my big brother to come out and play with me, and luckily, he agreed. I haven't finished the game yet cause my brother just gone out, and I'm waiting for him to come back!
XD This game is awesome! I got the link from someone who was totally freaked out by it and I thought I just had to play it. I finished up all the endings within the first day. Heheh, first game I've played with that kind of twist in it. You gotta be quick with the clicker to escape. I hate to imagine what happens to the man who isn't. x_x;

Oh my GOD!! The credits almost gave me a heart attack!! I mean, ok, i love scary movies, but for some reason this game got me really really really scared, like, OMG!!!
I've been clicking random spots on the screen but i keep on minimizing the window before anything scary scares the shit outta me...and..i need help!! i've been walking around aimlessly (mostly because i keep on clicking whatever can be clicked)...i'm stuck in this room with blood on the bed? uh...now what??
For those who are stuck trying to open the door...it is apparently very important to do things in the right order in this game. I had done all the things in the walkthrough, but not in the right order..and I couldn't open the door.
I restarted the game, and followed the walkthrough to the letter, and the door opened for me no problem.
Make sure that after you see gwen, and the guy tells you to wake up, that you go to the door then...do not pass go, do not collect $100, go directly to the door. It should open for you then.
Remember that sequence of events is important...and good luck!
laskfjsd i just beat the game and saw the two different endings. i totally predicted the ending you get when you run in the woods. i thought that running to the woods was easy when you go fast. but the pentagram...that took me forever! then i spelt VELWA and afterwards i felt dumb.

Click on the locked door to use the key and enter the "Temple of Exmortis"
Vlaew welcomes you back and wants you to become the "Hand of Exmortis"!
You look ahead and find a pentagram imprinted on the brick pillar. The five symbols listed below it.
You have to choose to either become the hand of Exmortis by solving the puzzle, or run for your life by taking the exit to the left (small door in wall on left.)
The Puzzle:
So you have decided to succumb to the Exmortis and sit at the right hand of Lord Vlaew.
The key to this puzzle is the passage in the book of Exmortis. The passage is recited one more time when you approach the pillar. "Devoured the crimson life of five, marks of Vlaew given to thee. Mirrored below the soul survive, what was, what is and what will be."
The keys here are the phrases "Marks of VLAEW" and "Mirrored below". Taking the symbols you have collected and placing a mirror below them you will see that they look very similar to the letters L, W, A, V and E. All of these are letters used in the name of the Ancient, Vlaew. Clues to this are in the clock face from the house - the roman numeral "V" was the same as one of the symbols turned upside down. The encyclopedia volumes from the library also used the symbols representing A and E in a mirrored capacity.
So now we know that the order of the symbols collected are V, L, A, E and W respectively. But the puzzle isn't going to be this straight forward. The painting on the wall in the Dark Hallway had a picture of a pentagram with numbers at each point. You must place the appropriate symbol at the appropriate point on the pentagram starting at the top left circle and moving around the circles in a clockwise direction.
Essentially, the sequence you will need to click on the symbols to place them appropriately is V, E, L, W, and finally A.
You black out - your transformation from slave to conqueror is over. You have become the hand of Exmortis.
The end of the game flashes with your evil triumph. First the Cult of Exmortis gained strength from luring many followers.
And then it crushed all human rule - returning Lord Vlaew to his rightful throne of the Earth Realm.
Congratulations, you have finished the game. If you want to see the other possible ending, click "Play again for alternate ending"
Running For Your Life!
You've taken the doorway to your left of the temple, and a booming voice filled with rage and malevolence fills the tunnel. "Foolish man! You will pay for your defiance!"
Click the exit to the right of the tunnel.
Another tunnel. Just keep clicking the "center" exits to get out. You'll eventually reach a door.
Click the door to exit in to the Woods.
The Woods:
Click the track to follow it forward. Continue on the track.
Click the track to follow it forward.
You come across a larger track that will lead you back to civilization.
Click the track to finish the game. ......
You fall backwards as something jumps out in front of you. Losing your footing, you slip and hit the ground hard knocking yourself unconscious.
Suddenly you snap out of it. Not knowing where you are, or why you are there - you realize how cold you are. All you can remember are the dreams (or are they memories?) It is dark, and you don't think you'll make it through the night unless you can find shelter. Wait - up ahead in the clearing you spot a house. You decide to shelter there for the night - anything is better than freezing to death in the woods... ;-)
The End (or is it the beginning?).
That was sooo scary! By far the scariest game I've played. Even with the lights on and volume low, I was still freaked out by the sudden appearance of the body parts and ghosts.
It was very hard to complete though, you have to do every thing in a certain order to unlock parts. I couldn't finish it without using a walkthrough.
I am a total wimp. I am just about to go into the attic when I decide to stop playing. Next time, though, I'll play with the lights on in the day, and with my brother. See how far I can get before feaking out. Good game. I actually once went into the hallway (before i saw the walkthrough) and went into the room with blood all over the bed. Very creepy.
Yes it is the most scariest game i have ever played. Me and my friend played it ages ago at night with sound lights off and everything, we reached the end finally, but before we did sometimes we would argue about who should click the mouse. The bit in Gwens room is 1 of the scariest and when you are in the corridor like right below the house in darkness and when u get killed is really REALLY scary. Great game. Don't have the guts to do it again, can't even go to the front door anymore in that game 10/10
Wow. I actually found a bug on this game. I didn't notice the attic when I went upstairs so I guessed the combination on the safe (it's easily done, the letters on the bottom right get bolder when you click the right numbers). So anyway, I did everything but I found the attic until the end so I couldn't go through the cellar door, so just so you guys know, dont try that. I spent like an hour trying to see if I'd missed anything, until I eventually came here and lo and behold I did do everything, just not the right way. Lol.
cool game, i have finished this game with both endings. then i play the game going with my own discovery, have any of you guys saw the ghost of a man standing in the hall way?i do not know, but this ghost of a man does not appear if you follow the exact steps, btw i already played exmortis 2 good job jay.
Okay, I played this game once before and didn't have the patience to finish it. (I was having trouble at the end). I'm trying to play it now, but I'm too scared because it's dark in my room and dear old South Park isn't calming my nerves. I only made it to the foyer before I started to freak out. Lol!
But it is a good game, and the second one isn't as...creepy? As this.

Ex doesn't mean "previous" in Latin, it means "from, out of, by way of" (q.v. Lewis & Short). Also, mortis is the genitive case of mors, which means "death's" (possessive form of "death"). So ex mortis literally means "from death's", which is an incomplete thought. Judging by Xavier's diary, the game's author intended "the dead", which would be the nominative case of mortuus, which is mortui. Though "exmortis" does sound neater for a horror game than "mortui" (which sounds more like a pasta dish at Olive Garden).
This game was tedious to the extreme. Mostly because of all the reading. If the diaries had been well-written, I wouldn't have minded. But I found it hard to get through even those few pages I was presented with. Especially the Exmortis tome itself.
And as for scary? No. Ghosts popping out of nowhere: not scary. Blood and gore: gross, but not scary. Maybe all that reading was designed to add to the tension? (It didn't.) Now, I'm not easily scared, but it seems to me that the creators of this game were not even trying.
I will give them some credit, however: the game looks very nice. The graphics are suitably spooky, and the navigation is fairly simple. But a nice look isn't enough for me to enjoy a game. For all Exmortis's spooky atmosphere, it was ultimately crippled by the boring reading material and cliche "scares".

I made it to the end without any help. it was pretty simple. the music at the end is sexy as hell. hahaha. But..erm..*cough* i was a runner torwards the end. I figured the door straight ahead was a dead end...so I didnt take it..But, when i got down the path i was attacked by a lil creature...then the game started over...which would mean that when we woke up with a lump on our heads the FIRST time....it was because we ran..which means...that dude could have been trying to escape for years...but cant remember..that is SOOO MESSED UP! i loved it! super creepy.
This game is just simply terrifying. But most questions from the viewers get me thinking "Why is it so hard? It's so easy to do... that is if you don't go skipping things.
Closing your eyes and forgetting things is how most people mess up.
SO DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES. That's a tip.
Walkthrough
Scary intro. Hello sir.
Look to the left of the house to see a glowing doorway. (You have to have your mouse over it for it to glow) then take the big wooden door to enter. Go upstairs, take the door on the right, click on the trapdoor to open up a wooden staircase (but it sounds like metal), then click on the message on the right side of the wall in the attic. It reads "3489". Remember this. Now, near the torn-up human torso is a bloody carved message. A strange letter. If you want to solve the puzzle at the end, remember that too. Now go back downstairs to the room where you clicked the trapdoor. Go inside the bedroom and click on the photo above the bloody bed. Input "3489" and you're in. (You may need sound to hear the inputs, because it won't show what you already put in)
Read the Exmortis. Look at the symbol near the heart. Then leave the safe, and enter the bathroom. There's a key to the library nearby the sink. Pick it up, then go back downstairs. ALL THE WAY to where you started. (Where you had the stairs and the dark hallway) Enter the hallway. Wait a second. *FLASH* OMG! What was that? Then click on the photo nearby the cellar door (To the left of the hall) Another hallucination will happen. Then enter the cellar. You may hear a saying if you have sound on. Remember the saying. Then leave the cellar and go further down the hall. Two doors and a grandfather clock should appear. Click on the clock. Try to spot the "A" looking figure on the bottom. Remember this. Then take the door to the right. A kitchen. Nothing in the cabinets, but there's blood trickling out of the microwave. It's lunch time! Uhh, this isn't what I ordered. But hey, that mark on his head is cool. Take note of the forehead marking. Then take the door ahead. Inside, find a diary and read it. After you hit the end of the book, leave, leave the kitchen, and take the left door of the grandfather clock to enter the library (You must have the key from the upstairs bathroom for this) Inside, read Xavier's book on the right bookshelf, then click on the marking on the floor near the arm. Make sure you know the main reason for reading the book; this will make Gwen's spirit appear. Once you're finished, go back to the main room (A staircase and a hallway) then go upstairs. Take the left path this time. You should hear a girl's giggling sounds. The door is now slightly ajar. Let's go in! You should see Gwen's spirit beside the bed. (She popped up twice in the first visit to the hallway) Click on her. The screen will go black. You hear a message. You wanna get out now. Now, go back to the dark hallway and then enter the cellar. If you've been examining all symbols and been reading all the books this door that someone was blocking should now be unlocked. Inside, the door slams locked behind you. Pick up the axe to the right. It's been put to good use. Smash the wooden wall to the left 3 times and squeeze in. Enter the tunnel. Take the larger tunnel first. Enter another tunnel. In the next one, you'll hear a strange noise (Sounds like a race-car) and you'll see a dude running up at you. Just click on his head to chop it off and have it pop-up. The last symbol is on his forehead. Remember that. Now, enter the next room and you'll see a tiny tunnel. Inside is a small key. Take it and go ALL the way back to where there were two doors. (This is not the key that takes you back to the house) take the left path (It's dark) You'll see a big grey door. Open it and you'll see a big white skull thingy. (If you've been reading, you know who this is. Satan! or for short, Stan) Either become the man of Exmortis or run...
If you solve the puzzle, try to put those 5 letters in alphabetical order. Easy as that. (I ain't helping you, for you should know this) If you need help, view the F.A.Q. section.
If you run away (Best option for those that didn't remember all the symbols) take the door on the left. You'll hear "Foolish man! You shall pay for your defiance!" Take the path to the right. The one forward is just a dead body and a dead end. Once you entered the right, be quick and find all the exits (Almost all of them are always in the center) Once you're at the woods, you're safe. Go down the road like 5 times. One road mentions it will take you back to civilization. Just wait and after the pop-up that knocks your character unconscious, you think back to all the scares and you appear at a screen that looks just like the beginning. (Is it the end or the beginning?)

F.A.Q.
1. How do I get in the house?
A: On the left side of the house, have your mouse over the doorway and it should glow. Click on it and you're at the front door.
2. When you're upstairs, how come the door on the left won't open?
A: Because that is Gwen's room, and in order to make her appear and get her door "slightly ajar", you must read the Exmortis, Xavier's Book, and the diary in the room past the Kitchen.
3. Where is the AXE? I CAN'T FIND IT!!
A: It is in the room PAST the cellar, beyond the door which someone is blocking. To open the door, you must have clicked on Gwen's ghost, and have seen all symbols and must have read all 3 books (Exmortis, Xavier's, and the diary)
4. The door remains locked. What must I do?
A: I'll mention this again. You must have done EVERY single objective. This means you clicked on the symbols, clues, keys, books, etc. You cannot open the door without leaving anything out. (No one really knows why)
5. Idk what just happened... what do I do?
A: You shouldn't be playing this game. Stop covering your eyes and turn up that sound!
6. I have the key from the hole after killing the zombie, but where does this go?
A: After getting the key, go back to the tunnel that has a second darkened door to the left side of it. Inside there is a grey door, which the key fits, and allows you to meet Satan.
7. How do I solve the puzzle? (Satan's)
A: You have to place the 5 symbols in alphabetical order. If you screw up, just mash in all the symbols and it should reset.
8. Where are the 5 symbols?
A: The 5 symbols are always nearby certain items that seem pointless.
You find letters...
"A" marked on the forehead of the guy in the microwave. (Kitchen) You can also find this on the grandfather clock, the bottom segment.
"E" marked on the floor near the torn-up torso in the attic. (Attic, above the right path upstairs, before the doorway)
"F" nearby the human heart at the safe. (Go inside the room after heading right from the upstairs hallway)
"M" is the last one. After heading through the tunnels, you'll see a zombie dude running at you and you just gotta click his head. After, the symbol should appear.
"U" is by the severed arm in the library. Look to the bottom right, it's hard to miss.
I don't know if there's a third ending.

Does this game have many jump and scares? you know the kind that appear from nowhere and scare the jeebies out of you? A few is okay, but a lot makes me move on to a different game
I enjoy creepy atmospheres and all that. I mean, this game sounds like it's right up my alley. Except for jump and scares. I absolutely despise those. Can't they make a scary game without it resorting to too many jump and scares?

Exmortis Walkthrough
The Woods
You have just regained consciousness in the cold isolated woods. You have no memory of who or where you are. All you know is that you have a splitting headache, and the only way you will make it through the night without dying of exposure is by finding shelter. You are in luck though as you see an old house in a clearing. It looks aged and unoccupied, so you decide to shelter there until day break.
Click on the front door of the house and you will approach the front door.
Front Door
Click on the right door to enter the house.
Main Entrance
You're sheltered from the gale force winds inside the house, and going on looks the place doesn't look any better from the inside than it did from the outside. You think you can hear a soft dull whispering in the background, but you just put it off to the wind playing tricks. The door behind you has buckled and jammed, so you can no longer use that exit.
Click on the staircase to go to the second level.
2nd Level Hallway
You see a window with moonlight streaming through the sweeping clouds.
Click on the right of the window to turn to the right end of the hallway
The walls and roof thumps hard and dull, like someone or something is trying to bring something to your attention. You notice that there is a hatch on the roof. This might lead to an attic which could explain where the thumping is coming from.

Attic
You coil back in surprise and horror after entering the attic. A human torso is strung up by it's arms, literally ripped to shreds and missing it's lower extremities. Who could do such a thing? It is now that you realise that you have stumbled upon something sinister and ghastly. But this house may hold the answers to who you are and what you were doing in the woods.
You notice something smeared in blood on a wooden plank near the front of the body.

Once you have returned to the attic scene (hit the down arrow symbol) you notice something else sketched in to the right hand wall of the attic.

The numbers read 3489. You remember these, as they may be important later on. You return to the 2nd Level Hallway, where you entered the attic.
2nd Level Hallway
Click on the door in front of you to enter the main bedroom
Main Bedroom
Another scene that tells of the murder that stains the house. A bed that is soaked in the blood of it's victim. A roof lamp that sways in no breeze. A gramophone that is not powered, yet spins waiting for a record to be played. A painting. A painting... of a landscape familiar to you. You just can't pick why that is.

You find a safe built in to the wall behind the painting. Wow - that's pretty original, don't you think? I bet you didn't see that coming!

You remember the code from the attic. Maybe that will work?
Enter the code: 3489
Success! The safe swings open, and before you lies another symbol and what appears to be a human heart. I hope you're taking note of the appearance of the symbols. This could be vital later on.
Click on the book and read all that is written
The book titled "Exmortis" describes a time before man roamed the earth. When ancient beings of great ethereal power ruled it's kingdoms. It talks of their greed and lust for power - a nature which eventually lead to their downfall. It talks of the last surviving ancient - and entity named Vlaew, who's cunning saw him survive his fellow Ancients, until his physical form was taken from him by treacherous lesser demons. Now he only exists in spirit form. Over the millennia, he consolidated his power with entities banished by man to form a legion of demons in one spiritual presence. He called this consolidated terror the Exmortis, and he ruled them with promises of return to the world one day to rule and return the Earth Realm to the glory of his days before man.
The book talks of how this will become. It talks of a single man who will be "anointed" with the blood of five, be transformed in to the hand of Exmortis - the physical link between the Earth Realm and the Spirit Realm which Vlaew now resided. The hand is destined to lead the Exmortis armies and lay siege to the World of Man, returning Vlaew to his rightful place of rule.
One particular passage here seems crucial to remember. It reads: "Devoured the crimson life of five, marks of Vlaew given to thee. Mirrored below the soul survive, what was, what is and what will be."
Return to the Main Bedroom scene.

The bathroom is splattered with blood and the bathtub is filled with the thick viscous liquid as well. There is not much here to help, but closer examination of the sink could prove fruitful.

There is nothing left to do at the moment on the 2nd Level of the house. Return to the Main Entrance.

You now want to explore the rest of the house to see what else you can find that will help explain your presence here.

Dark Hallway
You enter the dark hallway, and pause for a moment to gain your confidence. Suddenly out of nowhere, and apparition screams in to existence at the end of the hall - disappearing as quickly as it came to be. Could this have been a hallucination? Or perhaps it is a warning of some sort? In any case, you decide to press onwards despite being confronted by this unsettling sight.

You are presented with a junction point, split by an old grandfather clock ticking away the hours. There is something strange about the face of this clock.

(Take note of the numbers on the face of the clock. Pay particular note to the roman numeral VI - specifically the V. This is a symbol/character which will pop up in the next room.)

Kitchen
You enter the kitchen, and the first thing you notice is all the blood. It stains the floor trailing under the door, as well as forming a pool on the bench top immediately under the microwave oven. What's more disturbing is that blood is dripping from under the closed door of the microwave. With a deep breath you decide to examine it closely.

You find a severed head within, and there seems to be something smeared on the forehead.

Upon closer examination of the severed head, you find a familiar symbol smeared on the forehead. It is exactly the same symbol as the character V from the clock face in the Ground Floor Hall. You can't stand to look at the remains of the poor soul, so you close the door and search the kitchen further.

All the cupboards are empty with the exception of the cupboard second from the left. You find a bloodied knife within. While it seems like a worthy weapon against whoever is committing these heinous atrocities, you decide to leave it and look for a larger weapon.
After not finding anything else within the kitchen, you decide to push forward past the door that the blood stains trail under.

Loungeroom
More blood in this room. It seems that this is where two people were murdered, as blood stains as many chairs. The only thing that you feel is worthy of examination in this room is the diary sitting on the dining table.

The diary tells a tale of a hunter who stumbled across the house, and after some time he found himself somehow drawn back to it. This man found the book from the safe upstairs and read the passages within. The diary continues to tell the tale of how the Exmortis entities held him a prisoner in the house for years, draining him of his sanity and humanity. Before long, this man was brainwashed in to believing that he would become "more than human" by partaking in a ritualistic sacrifice of five approaching campers, marking them each with a special symbol. So far you have found three of the symbols.
A question burns your mind. Could you be one of the surviving campers? Could you have escaped this house of horrors, only to inadvertently return with no memory of what you were running from? If that is the case, you have to get out of there even if it means braving the freezing conditions outside.
You decide to return to the Ground Floor Hall and explore the adjacent room.
Ground Floor Hall
Click on the door to use the key to enter the left to enter the Library
Library
Another murder committed in this room built to be a tome of knowledge. A severed arm rests upon the desk to the right, and you notice that it too has a symbol smeared in blood on the desk at it's fingertips.

A bust sits above the old smoky fireplace, and you swear to yourself that it's eyes move and follow you closely around the room. Beside it the mirror has been stained in the blood of this victim. Spelt upon the surface is the word "remember." Is it meant for you? Or someone else?
In the bookshelf to the left, you find a volume of encyclopaedias.

You look at the spines of these books closely. They are catalogued alphabetically and upwards from A. The A looks familiar (it actually looks like the symbol left at the fingertips of the severed arm.) This could have some significance.
Stepping back from that particular shelf, you turn your attention to the shelves on the right. A particular book stands out here, so you examine it closely.

The diary recounts the tale of the author's daughter Gwen Rehayem, who was taken possession of by the mighty entities of the Exmortis. It continues to tell of how Xavier made the ultimate sacrifice, attempting to save his only daughter by taking her life in the second bedroom upstairs.
Leaving the Library, you return to the Dark Hallway.

You decide to check out the Cellar purely out of interest, not really necessity.

There is nothing in here except rubble and waste. But there is a door however.
Click on the door to get a message from the spirits
You hear whispers from all around you. "You must first remember, only then shall you pass" they advise you. Remember? That's the second time you've been instructed to remember. What do you have to do with this house? What should you remember? Then it hits you - there is someone who may be able to help. The apparition of Gwen Rehayem.
Go back up to the second level, but instead of turning right to go to the main bedroom, turn left and you will be at the door of Gwen Rehayem's old room. If you have read Xavier's diary, then at this point you will hear a ghostly sob at the door (which is now ajar)
2nd Level Hallway
Click on the ajar door to enter Gwen's Bedroom
Gwen's Bedroom
You enter Gwen's Bedroom, and suddenly your heart thumps heavily as another apparition stands before you. Just as Xavier Rehayem described in his journal, the ghostly apparition of his daughter stands in the corner watching silently over you. You look at the bed, still wet and stained with her 100 year old blood - and you think 'how is this possible?' But really, everything you have experienced in this house so far defies explanation - why should this room be any different?
You decide to try and talk to the ghostly form of Gwen to see if she can shed some light on what you should be remembering.

She steps forwards, and her face distorts grotesquely as a shrill scream echoes past her ghostly lips. The sound bounces of the walls of your skull, as your brain struggles to cope with the sensory overload. Your vision distorts, and before you can escape the room you black out.
Suddenly you snap back in to consciousness, or were you brought back? You decide it might be time to get out of the house, but the front door is no longer accessible. That means the only way out of this place is via the cellar - as per the tattered diary you read earlier.
Cellar Entrance
You return to the Cellar Entrance only to find that this time the door can be opened. What ever force that was holding it closed before, is now allowing your passage through this area.

Cellar
You enter the cellar, but suddenly the door behind you slams shut and locks! It seems that something is leading you down here, and what ever it is - you can almost feel it breathing down your neck.
In the cellar, you see an old air filtration unit, but oddly the piping leads away from the house above and in to a wall surrounded by makeshift boarding. Against the wall to the right, you see a bloodied axe. This could be a good opportunity to arm yourself against the resident maniac of the house.

Now the only problem remaining is getting out of the cellar. The door has locked tightly behind you, so it seems that you will have to break through the boarding. Using the axe, you tear in to the wooden planks.

Behind where the boards had been, you notice a stairwell leading further down. It seems that this is the only exit, and you decide to take it.
Underground Tunnels
A tunnel system under such a rural house? This seems highly unusual. Admittedly these tunnels seem very very old, and were probably here before the house was. A strong gust blows back through the doorway, which means there must be an exit down here somewhere. You push on forward.

You enter another tunnel, but this one has an exit ahead and to the left. Unfortunately, the exit on the left is a dead end if you don't have a key to unlock the door, so it is best that you explore further ahead to see if you can locate this key.

A rocky tunnel, but ahead you see a faint flickering glare. You press forward to investigate.

Out of the darkness, you hear a voice "I'll kill you, you son-of-a-bitch!" Gripping on to the axe, you realise that this could be the murdering bastard you've been expecting to pop up. Suddenly he lets out a blood curdling scream as he rushes at you with knife in hand. But a knife is no match for the reach of an axe. Just as he is in striking distance you lash out at his jugular.

You time your swing perfectly, and just as he is in mid leap, your axe blade slices his head off cleanly. His crumpled body falls to your feet, but the force of the blow sees his head fly backwards down the tunnel until it comes to rest on the ground in front of you. You take a closer look at the head to see if you can recognise him, when suddenly a symbol appears on his forehead.
But that must mean that this was the fifth victim and this can not be the murdering fiend. Staggering back, you realise the implications this has for you and your sanity. "Then who am I?" you ask yourself, but you already realise what the answer to that is. The first main question has been answered. You now know that the murdering fiend is actually you. You are not the victim, nor were you ever one of the campers. You are the person who stumbled across this house way back in 1997, only to be kept prisoner by demonic forces. Spending year after year here, losing your sanity and always clinging on to the last thread of humanity.
So how did you get outside? How did you lose all your memory and regain some semblance of rationale? Too many questions and not enough answers. You push forward knowing that the answer lies behind one last locked door.

You come to a dead end in the tunnel, but you spot a small hole in the stone wall.

This must be the key for the locked door. You go back to the locked entrance to try out the key. You notice that there is a sign on the top of the archway "Temple of Exmortis" This would explain why there is a house built out in this wilderness. It seems that this used to be the site of worship for the recluse Cult of Exmortis which died out so long ago. Buried beneath the earth for many centuries, it has been kept from intruders and the light of day in wait of the rising of Exmortis once again. In wait for you to become the link between them and the world.

The door closes and locks behind you. It seems that here will be the place where you face your destiny. A ghostly face materializes in front of you. The face of Vlaew. "Welcome back child. You have served us well up until this point. Now serve us again. Become the hand of Exmortis!"
You look ahead and find a pentagram imprinted on the brick pillar. The five symbols listed below it.
This is where you choose your destiny. Do you become the hand of Exmortis by solving the puzzle, or do you run for your life by taking the exit to the left of your view?
The Puzzle
So you have decided to succumb to the Exmortis and sit at the right hand of Lord Vlaew.
The key to this puzzle is the passage in the book of Exmortis. The passage is recited one more time when you approach the pillar. "Devoured the crimson life of five, marks of Vlaew given to thee. Mirrored below the soul survive, what was, what is and what will be."
The keys here are the phrases "Marks of VLAEW" and "Mirrored below". Taking the symbols you have collected and placing a mirror below them you will see that they look very similar to the letters L, W, A, V and E. All of these are letters used in the name of the Ancient, Vlaew. Clues to this are in the clock face from the house - the roman numeral "V" was the same as one of the symbols turned upside down. The encyclopaedia volumes from the library also used the symbols representing A and E in a mirrored capacity.
So now we know that the order of the symbols collected are V, L, A, E and W respectively. But the puzzle isn't going to be this straight forward. The painting on the wall in the Dark Hallway had a picture of a pentagram with numbers at each point. You must place the appropriate symbol at the appropriate point on the pentagram starting at the top left circle and moving around the circles in a clockwise direction.
Essentially, the sequence you will need to click on the symbols to place them appropriately is V, E, L, W, and finally A.
Suddenly the end of the dark temple passage lights up. It's blinding intensity finally captures and engulfs you. You feel your last remaining humanity slip away, but the power of many surges through your veins. So this is what immortality feels like. You arch your back, scream and then it's all over. You black out - your transformation from slave to conqueror is over. You have become the hand of Exmortis. The end of the game flashes with your evil triumph. First the Cult of Exmortis gained strength from luring many followers. And then it crushed all human rule - returning Lord Vlaew to his rightful throne of the Earth Realm.

Running For Your Life!
Making a run for the forest - now that's a bold move. One that the demons of the Exmortis will not like one little bit. You've taken the doorway to your left of the temple, and a booming voice filled with rage and malevolence fills the tunnel. "Foolish man! You will pay for your defiance!"
You listen, and off in the distance you hear a roar. Screams. Terror! And it's getting louder - it seems the Exmortis is coming for you. It invested too many years preparing you to become their link to let you deny them when the time was at hand. If you know what's good for you, you'll make a beeline for the Woods, and you'll make it snappy before they catch up to you!

Another tunnel - but from here it should be easy. Just keep clicking the exits to get out of there. You'll eventually reach a door.

The Woods
Congratulations - you've escaped the tunnels, the only place the Exmortis has any physical influence on your human form. Now all that's left for you is to make your way back to civilisation. That's if you can survive the freezing conditions outside long enough. You see a makeshift track wind out in front of you.

You continue on the track, noting that an eerie mist settles over the surrounding forest.

Finally, you've come across a larger track that seems to be well used. You are certain that following it will lead you back to civilisation.

Suddenly you fall backwards as something jumps out in front of you. Losing your footing, you slip and hit the ground hard knocking yourself unconscious in the process.
The dreams haunt your unconscious state. Suddenly you snap out of it. Not knowing where you are, or why you are there - you realise how cold you are. All you can remember are the dreams (or are they memories?) It is dark, and you don't think you'll make it through the night unless you can find shelter. Wait - up ahead in the clearing you spot a house. You decide to shelter there for the night - anything is better than freezing to death in the woods...

I don't want to see anymore "I can't find the key..." or "The room is still locked.." because it's all in here. I promise.
If you till can't figure it out after reading this, I pity you. No offense. Have fun.

and there is only one zombie in this whole flick. I'm suing for false advertisment)
Anyway, here we go
Go into house, go upstairs, go into the room on the right (not the attic) click the picture, click the safe "3489" and you're in. read The Exmortis, look at symbol, leave, go to the bathroom in the room, click sink, take library key, go back into the room (you won't have to go back in here) click on the ceiling, click on the symbol, you might not be able to see, it's by the body. The other thing is the number "3489". sound familiar? Leave attic. We are done with "hallway 1"
Go to the main entrance, now head down the hallway, wait a second then look down the hallway, That freaked me out the first time. Clik on the picture, anther hallucination should happen. You might need this info later so study well. Go into cellar room to your left. Check it out and leave. Hear the voices? now head down the hallway. Go into the door on your right and look in the microwave. TV dinner? Maybe for Hannibal Lector. Check out that sweet tatoo on his forehead, it's important. Go into second door and read the diary. Leave this room and the kitchen before it. Click on grandfather clock. Go to the library. check out everything. Most importantly the line of books on the left side of the fireplace and Xaviers book on the right. In order to enter Gwens room, you must read this. check out the symbol by the severed arm. Leave and go back upstairs. Congrats, you've finished the main Hallway!
Recap.
You've read all the books. You've seen two important pictures, Four symbols (A= Head, e= Guy in attic, F= Heart, U= Severed Arm), and had three freaky hallucinations.
Let's go back upstairs. It get's pretty easy from here but twice as freaky. Go left this time. Hear that giggle? Open the door. gwen is hanging out by the bed and she get's pissed if you poke her with your finger. So poke her, it's nescessary. A freaky voice tells you to wake up and you want to leave now. Go back to that room where someone is blocking the door, it's open now. Go inside, take the ax on the right side of your screen and chop away at the boards at left side.
Go down the tunnel, and you should come upon a room with two doors. One is pretty hard to see, it's on the left side of the room. You don't have to enter, nothing happens, Now continue down the tunnel, and about the fifth or fourth segment, crazy zombie guy attacks you and all you gotta do is click his freaky little head. It goes flying off and now you have seen the last symbol. (M) go down the rest of the way and click on the hole in the wall. Take the key from inside and go back into the room where there were two doors. Click on the second door. enter the next door and a big ol' white guy appears. Is you read The Exmortis than you know who this is, all others can call him satan, or stan for short. Decision time.
you can either decide to run or figure out the puzzle. Lucky for you, I have enough free time to have done both for you.
If you chicken out and run: In the room where you solve the puzzle, take the door on the left side of the room, Stan gets mad and starts chasing you. You have the option of two doors. The one in front is a dead end and takes up valuable time, the one one the right leads you outside. take that one and click everything that comes along. If you don't do it fast enough, or you took the dead end, then you die (stan sounds like R2D2 when he get's shot in star Wars) Once you're outside, click on the "path". Once at the end, just click the final part and you're done, by the way, the thing at the end made me jump.(does that make me a wuss?)
If you butch it out and solve the puzzle: It is really easy when you don't over think it. they look like letters in the Alphabet (ABC...) and match them up with their corresponding letter, put in alphabetical order, and you won and brought a manical crazy guy into power,(AEFMU, I've been reading up on it and the M is a W, the U is an A, and the A is a U. I don't know about a third ending, I've only beaten it like these two.

Okay, check every room, read everybook (you don't really haveto, just click through it) unless you want story elements. Check all the symbols. The order of the symbols looks like alphabet symbols.
1. Microwave head is A
(I never really understood why there was microwave in a house who's died a hundred years ago)
2.Guy in the attic is an E
3.The one by the heart is F
4. The zombie at the end is an M
5. Severed Arm is U
A....E....F....M.....U
To win the pentagram thing, just put them in alphabetical order. I don't know the use of most of the pictures, or the clock. I don't know the third ending.
TO GET INTO THE BASEMENT. GO ON YOUR LITTLE ACID TRIP WITH GWENS GHOST AND THE DOOR IS NOW OPEN, GRAB THE AX AND CHOP AWAY AT THE BOARDED UP DOOR. GO DOWN THE HALLWAY AND KILL THE ZOMBIE DUDE. GO A BIT FURTHER, REACH INTO THE LITTLE HOLE AND GRAB THE KEY, HEAD BACK, GO INTO THE LOCKED ROOM, LISTEN TO SATAN AND EITHER SOLVE THE PUZZLE OR RUN AWAY.
Nothing too scary, the ghost at the end of the hallway when you find the library key freaked me out a bit.

*The number to the safe is 3489
*Library Key is in the sink
*Satan room Key is in the hole at the end of the tunnel
*Can only enter Gwen's Room after you've read Xaviers book
*Read ALL the books (diary, Xavier's book, and the Exmortis)
*Look at all the symbols (AEMFU)
*Look at all the pictures
*When running away don't take the room right in front of you, take the room to the right. The one in front is a dead end.
