Awesome. Thanks JIG and BigFish!

This is great! I always love a free game (or three)...
Free games are awesome!
You guys are awesome! Awesome!!!!
I love free games! And I love you all for letting us know!
Quick question for anyone: if I use the coupon code now, can I still download the game for free after May 31st or does the "purchase" expire by then?
Woah... uh... when I got to the "checkout" screen I was attacked with an endless stream of pop-ups (from IE, and I use Firefox. What?) that crashed my computer.
When I came back, it said I already purchased Azada and now I have to wait some 20 minutes to see if it's even in my purchase history.
That was aggravating. >:(
This looks like a quality game, especially for free, though so I hope it's worth it. It might not be BF's fault anyway.
[Edit: I've never seen pop-ups at Big Fish. I believe you may have picked up something somewhere else. -Jay]
I already paid full price for Azada and its sequel. Can't wait until the third one comes out.
Ah, it seems I was having some trouble with my firewall among other things. :) Azada's installing now. Hope it turns out great! :D
Julian, once you have purchased a game, you are free to download it any time you like, at least that's the case if you're a member (I've pretty much been a member at BigFish the moment I started dealing with them, so I'm not sure how it is with non members). Basically all I would do is check your purchase history to make sure it's in there. If it is, you are free to download install it, and uninstall it at your convenience. I've got tons of games from BFG and I frequently have to ditch some of them to keep my computer nice and tidy.
Regarding the free games, thanks!!!! Now I know what I'll be doing when I get home tonight. NOT playing, of course since there's so much work to do, other games to review, that sort of thing ha ha. But downloading them all the same.
You know, to play...
AFTER I'm all caught up.
you can't get the game without registering for an account, though all they want is your email. pretty good method of attracting potential paying customers...
I look forward to playing it. It looks good. Now if only they would release Siberia and Siberia 2 for free (the first one was amazing). Does anyone know if they will be doing this?
I don't think that's a BFG release... at least, it doesn't come up in their search.
I'm having problems downloading it - signed up for a account but I see an additional $6.99 for a jumbo discount order at the checkout scree so I can't get the free game! Do I have to be a paying customer of big fish to access the freebies?!
Thanks!
[You only need to have an account, it does not have to be a paying one. There is a checkmark left next to the discount order, deactivate it. I just tried it and it works fine. Greetings, Kayleigh]
slam2drop - did you follow the instructions posted above in the main entry?
There are things you need to click to be sure there is nothing added to your 'purchase'. If you do everything according to the instructions, you should have a net balance of zero due.
You do not have to be a paying customer, nor do you have to buy anything to receive a free game. You do, however, have to have a (free) account with Big Fish.
if i download a free game from big fish, its always only a 200kb installer. does it install a big fish client (spyware) or something like that before i can load the real FREE full game?
Zanza:
Yes. When you are purchasing a game or taking advantage of one of BFG's free game offers like this one, you do have to download BFG's free game manager. BFG purchased games will not work without it, and you can't download games without it.
Once you have it, though, it's not really all that bad. I was a little put off by it at first, but I've actually grown to kind of like it.
Oh, and it is a one time only download. Once you have it, you get to keep it.
[Correction: Only Windows games require the Big Fish Games loader; games for Mac are entirely independent and standalone file downloads. -Jay]
I'm loving the free games - makes up for being off work ill. ;-)
Thanks for the notice. I've recently downloaded a free full unlimited version of JoJo's Fashion Show for my niece from BFG. Only downside with it being the random 20 second ads and that the game doesn't pause during it.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
Ooh, I've wanted to get Fairway Solitaire for a while now, this is great!
The Big Fish Games loader is a little... fishy, though. I install all my games and programs on a secondary drive, but when I tried to specify a directory to install to (E:/Big Fish Games, in this case), it went ahead and installed to the C: drive anyway. I understand having to put some things on the C: drive, in a local user data folder, maybe, but my new Big Fish Games folder on E: remained totally empty. Once you get in to the loader, there are no options to specify where you want to store the downloaded games, either, like you would get in other distribution systems such as Steam.
A small gripe, I know, but it irks me when they're trying to be streamlined and user-friendly, and it ends up being restrictive and bothersome. Makes me sad I don't have a Mac, because plain standalone files would be really nice right now. Seems like a lot of trouble to have DRM and loaders for free games... oh well, can't complain because they are free, I suppose.
I understand your complaint, jmdbcool.
All I can say is please take the time to write Big Fish Customer Support about it and explain the situation you prefer. They have told me in the past they can't make it better unless people request better features.
Thanks for the quick response, Jay; I'll drop them a line. :-D
Interesting. I used the code for the Fairway Solitaire, but I got the 60 minute demo version, (With the option to 'Play Now' and 'Buy Now') or so it says in the game manager. I followed the instructions the same as all the others and they worked fine. Did I do something wrong? Did anyone else have this problem?
Cornelius - you must follow the instructions above to 'purchase' the game through the "Buy Now" link.
Apply the coupon code above to reduce the purchase price to $0.00, then submit. You will receive the full-version that way.
Cornelius,
Are you on Mac or PC? On the Mac, you have to enter the serial number they send you. You enter this on the first screen when it asks whether you want to play a demo or buy. You only need to do this once to make it the full version.
Sometimes it can take 15 minutes or more to be sent a code. You can also get the code from your account section on the site.
Hope this helps.
That's a good point, lilitu93. Thanks for pointing out the difference between procedures for Mac and Windows versions.
I believe Cornelius is on Windows, though, since he mentioned the game manager.
Thanks for the new round of Free Big Fish games.
For those interested, you can click the help link on Big Fishes site and search for 'promotions' this tends to lead to offers for free games as well.
Correction, it seems they changed their help system, you can now just click promotions on the side.
Does anyone know if Big Fish has free Switchball?
Hi guys, first time commenter, long time site frequenter. I was wondering if any of you knew of a way to get the games to default to NOT put any icons on your desktop. I know it's a minor annoyance, but I don't like anything on my desktop and I'm getting annoyed with deleting them every single time I put a new game in the game manager.
Thanks for the heads up on the free games!
-Neko
Neko: get a Mac. :)
Unfortunately, there is no present way to avoid those icons when installing games on Windows. I urge you to please contact Big Fish customer support about it. Please. They want to know these things.
Thanks Jay, I will let them know. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a Mac girl myself, but maybe I'll have both someday when I'm rich! ;)
This may be a little off topic, but did anyone else notice that in the base camp level of Hidden Expedition: Everest contains a dinosaur that looks suspiciously like the one found in dinosaur comics?
OK If you have the bigfish game manager.. it will automatically add the game to the manager. All you have to do is throw the icon in the trash. It will not delete the game. I have the same issue. But this is what I do. I will not affect the game itself. It is just a default. I like it that way I dont have to open my manager to play my fav games. I just click on the icon. But any way.. just toss it.
Cynthia
Is it just me, or does the Mac version's code email take forever to get for everyone? I figured it'd be sent out right away, but it's been five minutes and I haven't got it yet. Maybe I'm just impatient.
Haha, nevermind. I just got it. I'm just impatient, then, I guess. My bad.
Wow, just downloaded 3 free games and spent 30 minutes playing Azada with my 9 year old son.
Azada is high quality and fun. We usually ignore download games but I have a feeling we'll be happy Big Fish customers in the future.
Thanks!
Well, according to Big Fish Games, I already purchased Fairway Solitaire (for PC). I do remember going through all the screens and doing an actual purchase, too. This same thing happened the last time with Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst. Oh well, I'm not gonna email 'em and complain how I didn't get a full version of their game for free. But I will check out that 'Promotions' link on the help site. Thanks!
[Edit: If they say you have already purchased the game, then you can redownload and install the game and play it any time you wish. Just click on My Account -> Purchase History for a list of installation links. -Jay]
It's a good thing they're giving these away for free, because I can't imagine paying anywhere near $20 for any of them, except Fairway Solitaire, which is an excellent take on its genre.
Azada is very good, but too short and too easy for that price! (It actually reminds me a bit of Pandora's Box, which I wish worked on modern PCs.) Everest is also okay (I tried that one first, so I guess it is my introduction to the "hidden object" genre) but there is not enough variety in the different scenes - you'll end up revisiting some of them three times or more, occasionally to find the exact same objects! (I haven't tried the spa game and I don't really care to.)
Overall my impressions so far of BFG are that there are definitely some good games out there, but a lot of them are not worth full price at all, which is probably why they offer their Game Club discounts to begin with. I haven't signed up for that because on the occasion that I do want to get a game from them (which is not very often TBH), I can usually wait and read JIG for a promo code to get it half off or something. :P
I wish I hadn't bought Azara half a year ago - it's not bad, but definitely not worth what I paid for it then (too short and easy).
I liked Hidden Expedition, especially with the extra stuff you can unlock, but like Jared I can't imagine paying 20$ for it. If I had the income I'd join their Game Club, but for now I'll just wait for offers like these.
Spa Mania is pretty fun, but the last two sets of levels feels more annoying than actually difficult - it's very easy to forget either to refill something or move one or several customers because there's so much going on. I wish there'd been at least one last upgrade for someone manning the cash register.
Hurray for free games!!
I love this site. I visit it every Wednesday and Friday!!
I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced issues with playing Fairway?? I've successfully installed and uninstalled it several times, however each time it takes me to a message that says "Thanks for playing Fairway" and then exit game manager. I've visited the site to trouble shoot the problem and have done everything they've suggested including updates on ActiveX etc. I've also cleaned out and uninstalled some of the BF games to see if this makes a difference. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Any suggestions??
Cornelius - I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but in the Game Manager there are links that say "Play Now" and "Purchase Now". Click on "Purchase Now" and the game will be activated for you.
Hi risarah,
I'm glad you enjoy the site, thanks for your visits!
And your experience with Fairway Solitaire definitely indicates a problem. It's not a brand new game, so maybe there is some compatibility issue with a driver or something like that.
The best advice I can give is to send Big Fish customer support an email and provide them with as much information about your computer that you can (OS, version, video card, memory, etc). They have most likely received reports of similar problems, and may know a workaround or fix for it...
Good luck with it. :)
Please me know if you do not get your problem resolved quickly.
Anyone out there playing Pahelika: Secret Legends. I'm stuck in the ice cave. Can't figure my way out.
Hello Jay. I really appreciate the free games (One would think that by being a BigFish member, I would have privy to such information). Your site, so far, has really good links; I am impressed. You also seem to be alert to what has been written to you. Again, I'm impressed. Neither Micro-sloth or Yahoo can boast the same. Thanks a lot. Matt
OMG, my first visit to the site and I'm already impressed! :)
