Robot Wants JIG theme

JayThis game is no longer available.

Today we launched a new banner game for the site, created by Mike Hommel of Hamumu Software. Mike is the author of the entire Robot Wants series of games, and this new game plays very similarly to those.

The objective is to light all the letters of the Casual Gameplay logo, as well as find all the JIGman bits scattered around the game. Use the [arrow] keys to move the robot, jump and duck. As you progress the robot will acquire additional abilities and power-ups to access areas previously unavailable. The game will save state only at Transmatter Computron checkpoints placed in strategic locations around the map.

Robot Wants JIGSign in with a Casual Gameplay account and collect all the letters and JIGman bits to get your name added to the Hall of Fame!

The game is playable right in your Flash-enabled browser in the banner across the top of every page. The banner game will allow only one instance of the game to be played at a time, so there should be no concern for having multiple pages open at once slowing things down.

We have also added a new Themes page off the Home menu option in the site navigation menu that will allow you to change the site theme any time you wish. From there you can revisit some of the older themes we've featured, including our first banner game that was created for us by Rob Allen back in 2007. Switch themes any time you'd like, including if you don't wish to have a Flash game load on the page.

Congratulations to repairmanman for being the first player to complete the game during our soft launch beta test late last night. Thanks for helping us test out the Hall of Fame! :)

Robot Wants JIG Walkthrough

This walkthrough will explain how to get all the letters of "CASUAL GAMEPLAY" in the order that they are acquired. The numbers beside the letters indicate where they are located on this map.

CASUAL GAMEPLAY

The L in casual (1)

Simply move up and to the left of your starting position, jump across the small spike pit, and walk under the crusher. The L gives you a cannon you can use by holding [X] and aiming with [UP] and [DOWN]

The first A in casual (2)

Use the cannon to shoot the orange switch, and continue moving up and to the left. Shoot the next switch and jump over to the oil. Jump across the spike pit using the metal platform. Shoot up and to the right to hit the switch (jump if you can't see it), and jump up using the newly created platforms. The A gives you air jump.

The E in gameplay (3)

Jump across the pit to your right, and shoot the switch to open a new path heading right. Take note of the Jigman, We will refer to him later as Jigman 1. Head right past the crusher, and go up and to the right. once you hit the gunner start going left again. Shoot the switch and jump across the platform. to get across simply walk off the wooden platform and jump before you hit the spikes. The E will give you an EMP bomb you an use by hitting [X] while holding [DOWN].

The second A in gameplay (4)

Go back to the gunner you just had to turn away from and use an EMP on it. Follow the path until you get to the next letter, there is only one way you can go. You can shoot the switch you need to hit by aiming through the grate. Jump up and grab the A, this gibes you the ability to swim. Also note Jigman 2, which you can't access yet, try as you might.

The G in gameplay (5)

Head back down to where you got air jump, and jump into the oil. Follow the path down passed the checkpoint. Walk passed the three crushers, and swim up to the little air hole and shoot the switch to open up the way to the G.

The P in gameplay (6)

Swim back up and to the right of the checkpoint, and use double jump and glide to make it across the pit. Back where we started \o/!. Go down and to the right across the spike pit. Get passed the crusher and the spikes and make your way over to the P. You will need to shoot through the grate to hit the switch. Now you can detonate red blocks with your EMP bombs.

The first A in gameplay (7)

Head back towards point 7 on the map, by going by point 2 where you got the air jump. Use your strong bomb to blow up the red block and get access to the new area. First turn off both switches you can see. Once both switches are off, turn on the left switch from inside the wall it creates. Jump over the spikes and turn on the second switch. Be sure to jump so the blocks don't crush you. There is a third switch you can now access by shooting into the grate. Once you get the shot through the tunnel simply turn off the fourth switch, and jump to the A. Now you can drop bomb by tapping X in the air.

The L in gameplay (8)

To get this letter just head back towards the start and enter the same tunnel you did for the letter P, instead this time go to the right and glide down the pit of spikes. When you land you will be right beside the L. You can now hang on to metal walls.

The S in casual (9)

use the lateral magnets to jump up the wall to the right. Then head left and jump up the tunnel lined with metal walls and spikes. The S is in the room at the top. You now have the Shield.

The C in casual. (10)

Go back down the tunnel you came up to get to the S, only go into the room blocked off by spikes on the right side. You can get in now that you have a shield. Glide over the three holes in the spikes and drop bombs in them. Once you have dropped a bomb in each hole you need a drop a fourth bomb in the middle. Head back down the tunnel, and to the right. Go up passed the three crusher. Use a bomb to stop them (You can walk through frozen crushers). Glide over and get the C. Your bomb will now crawl when you place them. If you didn't lose your shield gliding over, jump to the right and go down the tunnel to get JIGman3

The M in gameplay (11)

Reka's Note: before you even attempt to acquire the M, make sure you have enough time to also acquire the U and then JIGman bit #4 in the same session.

Go back down to the little area before the three crushers you just had to get passed. Use a crawly bomb to blow up the red block behind the teleporter. Jump down the tunnel to the right and swim through the spike field. Jump across to the left after you get out of the oil, and climb the wall. Shoot a laser through the grate in the upper left. Then drop a bomb on the red block in the middle of the teleporters and glide across. Jump up the metal wall and blow up the red block on the platform above you to grab the M.

The U in casual (12)

Head back over to the oil on the far left of the map. Go to where you needed to shoot the switch to get the G, and let a crawly bomb go heading right. It will blow up the red block and you can access a new area. Just follow the path to get to the U. There is only one tricky jump you need to make. Also note that you can shoot lasers while upside down.

The A in casual (13)

So close yet so far! Head back to where you got the L in casual (8 on the map), and dig through the ground and follow the path to the left to get to the A. You will need to be careful when using bomb to stop the crushers and make sure you don't blow yourself up in the process. Drop a bomb into the spike so it will blow up the gunner. Then glide over the teleporter and drop another bomb in to blow up the red block and disable the gunner. You can now glide across and climb up the metal wall on the left. One more to go!

The Y in gameplay (14)

You can pretty much see this one from where you started. Simply head to he starting area and climb up the metal wall in the middle. Stand on the cieling and shoot a laser into the grate. Hop back down the right, and go into the area you opened up. Let a crawly bomb loose to the red block, jump down and make the computer happy! Dig to the Y, and you win :D!

JiGman bits
JiGman bits are marked on this map in yellow! Once you have all the powers it's just a matter of getting to each one.

1

All you need to do for this one is double jump and use the magnet jump super easy.

2

For this one you will need to get to the top of the map and make sure you still have a shield when you get to the spike pit.

3

You need to use the upside down magnets to walk across the spike pit beside where you got the C, or you can just use a shield.

4

You need the Digging ability to get this one, just head the same way you did to get the M and dig down instead of jumping up the metal wall on the left.

5

This one you just need crawly bombs and the dig ability, no tricks here.

6

Just need to be able to make the computer happy, no tricks here either

7

This one is the tricky one. You need to glide down the pit like you did to get the L, but stop half way. Take a hit from you shield so you can jump up into the little ledge and shoot the switch. Blow yourself up and then jump back down with a shield and land in the new area. Drop a crawly bomb to disable the Gunner, take a hit on your shield from walkthrough through the spikes, and cling to the ceiling. Drop down above the JiGman

And here's a complete, full-sized map (Thanks, Raz!)

To Reset the game (and start over):

  • Hold [A] while pressing [B]

A BIT too small for me, but I still enjoy it, and the new ideas in the game are great!

Haven't seen anything really worth criticizing at the moment, and I wish my opinion will stay this way :)

PS first XD

Reply

Hm. I got the air jump, but I can't quite tell what I'm able to do next. I think I'm supposed to go to the right, but the crushers won't let me through.

Reply

Never mind, found it elsewhere. =)

Reply

Where do I play the game. I click the banner, but it just brings me to this very page.

Reply

Finished. Played very similar to the other Robot wants games, but that's very much a compliment. Lacked the map though its small enough that you don't really need it, and I first thought that just filling out the JIGman was enough (there's 1 more). Too bad there's no silly ending, though considering the typical endings that may be a good thing (for the robot at least).

Note you can hover your mouse over the letters/JIGman to see what they are/how many you need. EMP bombs can also disable the crushers. Also you can't fire in the air or attached to a wall though you can when you're hanging upside down.

Reply

Grrr... stuck.

Can't use bombs underwater, and can't work out how to disable the green laser/teleporter things...

FYI, I have

The A, S, and L from CASUAL, the G, E, P, L, A (second) from GAMEPLAY, and I think two JIG bits.

Reply

I got the bomb capability but I accidentally clicked away before learning how to use it! What do I do to use them?

[Just hover the mouse cursor over the letters you have lit up for the power-ups you have acquired and how to use them. -Jay]

Reply

I'm probably just too stupid, but I am stuck at the very beginning. I got the laser gun and after that I cannot seem to get over the spikes. Even if I did, I can't go on since the platform at the start is too high...help?

Reply

I got aslgepla, but im stuck, help?

Reply

Finished: all except for the 'last JIGman', that it said I needed to get after finding the Y. Any hints?

Oh, and I presume after that I can go to the highscore board?

Pe-ads

Reply

I'm stuck at the same place as you, Pe-ads.
Every path I take seems futile.

Reply

Hmmm...

I think I've found a bug with the last JIGman.

I collected all of the JIGman's body parts, then got the Y. CASUAL 'GAMEPLAY' went gold, but JIGman was still bronze. Moused over it: it said on more JIGman to find.

So I'm looking around on the right, and I see these magic bronze sparkles. I follow them into the water, and they guide me into the bottom right section.

Now I've already got the JIGman down there, but I figure I must have missed something, or something new must be there.

But there isn't. I do everything: reactivate the computer (I refreshed the page), hit the switches, everything.

Whenever I leave that area, the sparkles guide me back. Are they a hoax, or what?

Reply

Oops, meant bottom left.

I now know where the gold JIGman is (haven't got it yet), but the bronze sparkles still shouldn't be there.

For anyone stuck on the gold JIGman:

Go to the bottom right section. Yup, that pain-in-the-butt bit. And as you've probably refreshed the page, you'll have to negotiate the spiky waters again.

The gold dude should be pretty obvious after that :D

Reply

Yay! I'm in the top 5 :D! Nice game you got there Jay! I love all the banner games! Keep them coming.

And for some criticism... I really don't have any, maybe one thing. You can get a bit lost, because it's actually quite big. But well, you need to do some exploration to find everything, right?

Reply

Excellent game! (Unsurprisingly.) I fear, though, that I didn't get to the hall of fame, because I wasn't expecting it to require a pop-up; I can't be the only person who has them blocked, can I? But having allowed them, I'm not sure how to re-trigger the pop-up, or how to get to the hall of fame directly.

Reply

Fun little game! I enjoyed the others in the "Robot wants" series, and this one fits with the theme well. But those spikes are annoying!

repairmanman November 30, 2010 6:52 AM

can i still have the number one spot

or the zeroth spot
just something on the hall of fame page

[You were a beta tester who played a pre-release version, and I gave you a mention on the official announcement page, how cool is that?! :D -Jay]

Reply
repairmanman November 30, 2010 6:54 AM

also, we're collecting casual gameplay not JIG
shouldn't it be robot wants casual gameplay?

unless it's robot wants "JIG banner game" and not robot wants "JIG" banner game

Reply

I am afraid there will be no Number One spots for me. Not until we open a Hall of Lame anyway. (It's okay, they give us apple juice and oatmeal raisin cookies.)

Still, way awesome game. I remember when I first started visiting JiG many moons ago I was absolutely amazed when I realised the banner was playable. :) Just one of those little touches that mean so much... es.

Reply

Also, repairmanman, I think you'll find that in addition to Games, Jay Is Also Casual Gameplay! Or rather, JiG is Casual Gameplay. :D

Reply

I have 2 problems.

1> Is there a 'restart from beginning' button.
2> I started the game. Got the laser cannon. Got back OVER the spikes, back to where you start... and I'm STUCK. I can't go right, because I can't jump high enough to get on the pipe, or over the spikes. I can't go left... because its a dead end, and spikes again... so I dont know where to go.

Reply

@Ashiel: You can restart your progress by tapping A while holding B. But you shouldn't need to do that! Have you tried

Shooting the red switches?

Also, for anyone stuck with "ASL GEPLA"

The wall (made of switchable blocks) that is seemingly "too high" to jump up on can be passed, you just have to know what to do. ;)

Reply

Can't play, help! On linux, firefox; When I click the top banner, nothing happens. If I press up/down, the page scrolls. If I right-click, I don't get the flash menu, just the standard HTML menu.

[It sounds like the game isn't getting embedded onto the page (there's a static image of the banner game there initially in case that happens). Make sure you have the latest Flash Player installed. The script that embeds the game wants to see at least 10.1 before it will proceed. -Jay]

@ashiel you see those red block things with dots next to them, use your laser on them

to restart press and hold a+b

Reply

thanks, I figured it all out. now I'm trying to find the second A of 'casual' and the Y.

I'm bone struck lost. :D yay.

Reply

are you guys aware that when I allow jayisgames.com in order to load the flash, your scrolling ad at the top halts the game play intermittently?

I have had many problems with your ad content interfering with site functions. this is just the latest.

[You can click once on any of the page numbers of the scrolling ad to stop it, or it will automatically stop after several scrolls (it varies, but it's finite). Please consider that ads support this free content site, without them you wouldn't be reading this right now. -Jay]

I wasn't redirected to the HOF after finishing - I think I finished, anyway (unless maybe there's something I'm missing). I got all of the letters, and all the pieces of the gold JIGman. I saved a screenshot (because I'm neurotic like that).

I don't care too much, just.... ummm.... helping make sure it's all working right. Yeah, that's it.

Firefox, Vista, pop-ups blocked. I opened the HOF manually with the link above.

I have the laser cannon and air-jump, where do I go now?

Reply

I'm stuck:

I have CASL GAMEPLA so far and don't know how to go on. I cannot place bombs underwater to reach the lower left part of the map. Also I can't explode the solid black blocks. Apart from that I have been everywhere...

Reply

Aw.. much like the last Robot Wants game, I can't play this because it requires the very latest flash. :c Most of even the new flash games aren't that stringent. Ah well. One more sign it's time to put my faithful laptop out to pasture.

Reply

Finished! Wow, that last one was hard to find. There were some really, really difficult bits in there. whew.

How do you use bombs underwater?
How do you destroy rocks?
How do you get past the green teleporters?

Okay I got cASuaL GAmEPLAy. Seems like I need either:

I had two tabs open in FF when I noticed this post, and both tabs had the "Game is running in another window" error. So I closed FF completely, fired up Chrome, only opened one tab. Still have the "Game is running in another window" error.

Hmmm, I got all the letters and finished the game but no place in the hall of fame.... Is this a bug or does it take time for the game to register you into the hall?

[Make sure you have found all the JIGman bits. There's likely one you missed. Hover the mouse over the JIGman in the logo, does it still say you're missing one? -Jay]

I am completely stuck. I have the ASL of "Casual" and "GAEPLA" of Gameplay and 2 parts of the JIG guy. I am at a complete loss at what to do next.

I blew up the boxes and got into the little room with the computer terminal but it doesn't look like I can do anything with that yet. I cannot figure out how to gain access to the areas on the other side of the transporter. Everything appears to be a dead end to me. Also,I cannot drop bombs underwater, which I assume is an ability you gain later, to get access to that area.

Any help would be appreciated!

Reply

Having never played the Robot Wants series (I know, I know, I hear it's awesome but I'm not usually a platformer), I am not sure if I am just missing something. I'm stuck REALLY early on. (AL only)

I can only get the air cannon and double jump. Then I can't figure out anywhere else I can go on the left side of the map, can jump across to the right side but can't get through the up and down squishers - seems like my jump will always take me into the 2nd one no matter how I time it/run when starting the jump. What do you do after AL?

Reply

Wait a minute, I thought I found all the letters & JIGman bits. Why don't I see my name in the Hall of Fame?

Reply

Okay, never mind. I found the REAL last JIGman bit.

I'm stuck with ASL, in the top left right near the second A...anyone have a hint as to how to trigger the red switches? They're all protected by other red switches' walls.

I know it is epically lame to be stuck only getting L and not being able to jump high enough or far enough to cross the spikiness but lame gamers love JIG too...

@stupidcheeseboy, @leCanard:

Have you tried shooting at the red targets, whether directly or up and around areas? Using that, you can get the double jump.

To those stuck on ASL/GAEPLA:

Go to the upper-right corner, with the three lasers and the arrows in the air. Drop bombs where the arrows are, and bomb the middle hole twice. You can now enter that area from below.

Reply

Where is U or the last A?

Reply

AH! Duuuuuuuuuuuuuur. To everyone else stuck at ASL/GAEPLA:

In the shaft you climb to get the area with the wooden platform with the two crushers, about halfway up there is an opening blocked by two pink coral or whatever they are. You need your shield, but you can pass through those and up into the upper right corner that tchakkazulu is talking about it. Can't believe I missed that!

Guess I'm dim. I'm stuck at .A...L G..EP.A. (with no JIG pieces). I just got the 'drop bombs from midair' ability, and can't seem to find a place where it's actually helpful.

Considering that most people seem to be getting stuck after finding two more letters than me, I feel kinda dumb for not being able to get at least THAT far.

Finally beat it! What a good feeling! I love these games. ^_^

Argh! Power of posting. There wasn't a walkthrough when I wrote that. I'm good now.

Just saying, if you haven't already done a banner games competition it would be a pretty cool idea.

[That is an idea I have been tossing around for a long time. I very much want to do a banner game competition. :) -Jay]

Just finished (finally), but didn't get a redirect. Kept a screenshot in case proof is helpful.

Hi Jay!

Yes, I was redirected to the Hall of Fame once I completed the game.
I think there is a lot of confusion about the last JIGman bit. Alot of people should notice that you must hover over the JIGman to see if you got all the pieces.
And true, the last one is kind of hard to find, but it's got all the right difficulty with it to earn yourself a spot in the Hall of Fame!

Reply

I finished the game, then registered for the first time, and I'm not on the Hall of Fame...did I mess up? Is it impossible to reach the Hall of Fame now?!

[No, the game should continue trying to add you to the Hall of Fame until you're added. Are you certain you finished it? When you hover over the JIGman in the logo does it say you have one more piece to find? If not, this may be a new bug. It was working during initial testing. Checking into it now. -Jay]

And by the way, I'm using Google Chrome. Don't know if this will help you with anything at all, but I thougt I should mention it :).

Hi, I finished the game but I haven't appeared in the hall of fame... does it take a while or should I be there automatically? So confused! But LOVING the idea of the banner game, kept me amused for about an hour!

[Are you sure you finished it? Does hovering over the JIGman in the logo say you have one more bit to find? -Jay]

Great, great game. I love all of the "Robot Wants" games and this is no exception. Very high quality from the well-thought-out map to the way the abilities make you stretch to solve the next puzzle to the fun concept.

Control is also very sharp and precise - very impressive all around.

Here's hoping there are many more of these to come. Thanks!

I finished it but my computer blocked the pop-up. Dang.

Reply

Nearly finished. This was a lot of fun. Thanks for the banner game.

I did a screen capture map of the game as I was playing. In case anyone's interested I uploaded it. It's a bit messy though.

Robot Wants JIG Map (full size)

[Thank you! This is exactly what I asked for early on in the comments. I'm going to contact you via your account email to give you free game coupon. Cheers! :) -Jay]

Fantastic game. I got lost a few times, but I eventually found everything. I love the "Robot Loves..." games. Having one on your banner is quite awesome.

Wait, I can drop bombs while gliding? HOW?

Cursed under water tunnel full of spikes. It's no longer full of murky water, now I'm failing in my own tears. TwT

Thanks to all involved for a fantastic game.

Felt it was the cleverest map of all the 'Robot Wants' series - found myself totally stuck a couple of times but eventually I spotted somewhere newly accessible/something new to do with the lastest power-up.

If it was easy & straightforward it wouldn't be fun!

Oops, my bad...I didn't finish. One last JIG piece to get. Now I'm there. Thanks!

Papa wants robot. Always. Awesome game! And I love the fact that it's also a banner. How versatile!

Reply

Is it possible to reset the game? I seem to be stuck and can't get back to where I started.

Reply

Holy crap, I was the first person post-release to finish? Jay, do you need my address so you can come to my house with a novelty oversized check?

Kudos to Hamumu, especially since they said they weren't doing any more Robot Wants games.

@Raz

Your map is better quality than the other two. Nice job.
:)

XD
There are little "Robot"s all over it!
lol

@Reece there's a power to drop bombs mid-air. Already won this! Thanks JIG thanks Mike Hommel! :-D

Great game, absolutely loved it. Fan of the whole series. Was probably the hardest out of all the series. Got all the letters and Jig symbols. 113 on the list :)

Thanks for an enjoyable game.

Perseverance got me through everything except the JIGman at the bottom right of the map. Navigating though oil spiky maze is hard enough, doing it with just jumps and glider is impossible for me.

Robot may want anything, but I sure don't want blindness - This is a way too long game to have it so small.

Also, the Robot wants games were fun because they weren't evil - Whereas this one is VERY evil with its pixel-perfect jumps and gauntlets.

Sorry. I really wanted to love the game, but this is too much for me.

Oh great, now I don't even have to click any links to reduce my productivity! :P

Sweet. I absolutely loved this game. I mean I would buy a full game of this for sure. That was a really really good game, in a BANNER for a really really good game website. :)

Sigh.

. . . swim through the spike field . . .

Fun until that, then too hard for this casual gamer. So sad. Perhaps I'll be better at it tomorrow, or perhaps I'll give up.

Nm. I saw a comment that mentioned hovering over the JIGman, and it said that one piece was still missing. Little confusing though, it looked like all of the pieces were there.

Good game, just as well done as the others in the RW series!

I never did quite get through the first JIG banner game, so it was nice to "win" this one. The only other Hall of Fame page I ever made was for D.R.O.D. -- now there was a tough game.

This was an action game that a puzzle freak could love. Also reminds me of an old Mac-only platform game called Ferazel's Wand.

Only complaint -- whenever I reloaded the page all those barriers I'd sweated to get open were closed again!

Well I am upset. I finally get the bottom right open (thanks to the walkthrough) but for some reason the outermost edge of the right is cut off for me. I can see all the way to the left (if you refer to the map) but most of those spikes on the bottom right don't appear, just the ones hugging the left of the wall. No wonder I kept dying. Yes I've scrolled all the way to the right, yes my flash is updated, yes my cashe is cleared. So tell me, why is it that the right hand side of the gaming screen is missing on my version? This makes no sense, I was just getting into the game. Please respond asayc.

[Make sure your browser is not zoomed. From what you describe, it sounds like it is. Here's how to reset it, if it is. -Jay]

Darn, I was actually the 30th person to finish. Didn't know that there was a missing JIG man.... =(

Thank you Jay, as per your instructions I was indeed zoomed in (don't know how that could have happened) and was able to play and complete the game. Though I don't know how, that one part in the bottom middle with the 3 uneven pipes and the spikes and the lazers..... (wonders if the designer is an S)

Anywhoo, great game, but hell on the fingers.

Thanks again.
