Treasure BoxA cross between a point-and-click puzzle game, interactive art, and a Rube Goldberg machine, Treasure Box is a gorgeous and fun little Flash game that puts you to the task of finding the treasure of a king long since passed.

There are no instructions other than a short little introduction, the rest is up to you. It's a short and beautiful interactive multimedia adventure from an artist with a purpose: to engage your curiosity and earn your appreciation for the work of art.

Complete Treasure Box Walkthrough

If you want to beat the game but can't here is a walkthrough. It is based on the various posts on this blog entry.
Anyway, nice site jay!

  1. Press the wierd eclipse. LOL! It's actually a giant's head.

  2. Press the red ball to launch it. Wait until there is no animation.

  3. Click the solo picture, and the wierd guy will place pictures next to him.

  4. Then click on the button next to the hole.

  5. Press the 8th painting, left-to-right, top-to-bottom. He will knock off the wood. The machine will run and you will get to the generator.

    • To skip it, just open the window below, wait, and press the other window, to the right.

    • If you want to play it, press the shimmering square. Use the wooden gu's arm to generate electricity to light 3 bulbs.

A train will move the ball onto the next section.

  6. Play numbers: 5-8-12-5-2-4 (thanks Aaron).

  7. The ball will fall next to a frog. Click him twice.

  8. Here comes the final stage! Use the man on the flying contraption to propel the ball to the top border.

  9. Wait a few cutscenes, and then press the guy's mouth.

  10. Congrats! You win nothing!

Treasure Box is a great game.
But what are you suposed to do when you reach the little guy on the bike and the stop light????

Reply

By moving the mouse you can affect the flight of the little guy on the bike. Move the bike underneath the floating red ball and try to force it as high as you can.

Reply

i'm so into this but no matter how fast i spin the generator, i can't get the light to stay on or the other two to light up at all.

Reply

Try making smaller circles with the mouse. You are using a mouse, aren't you? I imagine those little laptop finger-sticks would not work so well with this game. =)

Reply

I got to the generator and I'm spinning like crazy and nothing happens, what up?

Reply

Rick, spinning the generator should lite the three lights, and that makes a train come out that pushes the ball farther. You need to light all three lights.

Reply

so the generator will not work if you are playing this game on a laptop, right....
:'-(

Reply

While there's nothing that prevents you from playing on a laptop, the circles that need to be 'generated' to light the 3 lights require some quick movements. I guess it depends on the input device you're using and how well it works for you.

Reply

I beat it! the generator took me 5 minutes!

Reply

I am stuck on the piano anyone got the answer?

Reply

I think it's like 5-8-12-5-2-4 or something, if I recall correctly.

Reply

anyone know what to do with the flying guy?

Reply

I'm at the bottom and no ball, Just after playing the piano. Every now and then a frog walks by at the top left. Now what?

Reply

Yeah i am stucked in the same place as u , Ryan

me too, after I successfully play the piano, the screen scrolls down and nothing interesting is visible.

Reply

You have to restart the game from there if you're stuck. You need to unlock everything first. Go back to the start and this time, when you get to the generator, click the star next to it. If you did that anyway then you've probably missed something else. Gt it right and the ball will land next to a sitting frog at the bottom.

If you liked this one, try TCB Museum.

Reply

Thanks, Michelle. I've posted a new entry about that one. =)

i've activated everything, but after i click on the frog twice, the person gets the ball and throws it and then the screen goes blank

Reply

What do you do after the portraits and the water spillage have got the ball in the archway underneath the water-hole?

Reply

you don't need to get the generators going to win! a little music would make this game perfect!

Reply

great short game! love the artwork!

Reply

This is sooo cute!! i love it...very creative

Reply

I have the same trouble as turbine
after i click on the frog twice, the person gets the ball and throws it, never to be seen again

Reply

Heh cute game the ending could have been better tho. :)

Reply

for me, when the person throws the ball upwards, it appears again, but only after a long time (like, 2 minutes or so :]).

Reply

I don't thinkg that the scrolling problem is due to "not unlocking everything." The window from the referring page scrolling is even worse than it from the pop-up on this site. What I had to do is "feel" my way around after the piano and then the rest of the game works fine. It may be a screen resolution thing.

Reply

That games was so pointless.

I know this is gonna sound stupid, but it seems the game page is too big for my screen; I've tried everything I can think of to shrink it a bit. Anyway, after the intro, the music plays and a bird flies around once in a while but I dont even know how to start playing. Wondered if I needed to click on something that is out of my view??

Reply

Jackie - it doesn't sound stupid at all. The game is quite large (775 x 750) so you will need a display resolution of about 1024 x 768 to view it entirely.

And in the very beginning of the game, you need to click down by the bottom of the window on what will be the top part of a head that will pop-up when clicked.

Try clicking on the "Treasure Box" link in the text of the review. That will open a new browser window with scroll bars for you if your screen is not large enough to display it completely.

Reply

aww that was a really cool game. it wasn't mind boggling...which is good.

Reply

did it in 5 min kind of boring i liked the music

Reply

I love first the creative artwork on this game. It reminds me of early 70's type London underground cult art. The game itself is interesting and the music fits.

Reply

that was the freakiest weirdest game i have ever played

christine August 13, 2005 9:38 PM

That was SO fun and silly. I loved it! I didn't have any problems with the generator perhaps because I use a touchpad which requires a lot less movement. It takes less than 8 seconds to get all 3 bulbs going that way.

By the way, Jay, thanks for all the work you do reviewing these games. Seems like a lot of the ones you recommend I agree are good quality.

Reply

this is by far my favorite "point and click" game. just b/c it was beautiful in a sense and the music just made it 10x better.

Reply

At last a game I can complete thanks jay

Reply

What a great game! Beautiful artwork!!

Reply

That was one of the most ingenius games, definitely better than my spelling >.>

Amazing artwork as well

Reply

Allo all.
I'm new to this place, discovered it this weekend, and spent most of it playing point n click games scaring meself silly. lol.
Anyway, I really liked this game. Delightful artwork, and use of imagination, that's actually made me rather envious. Loved it.

Reply

yay i did it in like 5 mins !!! the bit that took the longest for me to do was the piano !!
if you are really stuck on it i will tell you the code

5 8 12 5 2 4

Reply

hmm that was fun!

Reply

This is so lovely and charming. The animation reminds me of the work that Terry Gilliam used to do for Monty Python, or the work The Fool did for the Beatles in the 60s. It wasn't too challenging (even using a touchpad on a laptop), and was just the right length for enjoyment. :)

Reply

Another wonderfull game. Can't remember how we found you but have been coming back ever since.. Thank you.

Reply

I was so hooked on this sweet little game i did some searching and i found more... :)

I can't get past the part where you have to click on the picture guy and he puts all the pictures next to him. All that happens is the ball goes away and I have to start again.

I play on a laptop and was getting nowhere with the generator. On accident I discovered a cheat to skip the generator sequence altogether!

click on the snake's hole again to deliver it to the wrestler a second time (keep doing it until he says, "Thank you." The screen will lower, so you can begin on the piano bit.

This game was great. I loved it. Reminded me of Mirrormask (the movie) It was beautiful and left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside ^_^

That screaming giant was scary!

Reply

Wonderful game...loved it...the imagination involved is fantastic. I have always been a fan of Rube Goldberg and have tried to create my own contraptions but never in a game just on paper. More please. Your newly acquired and biggest fan!

Reply

Okay, i got to the part after the piano and i click on the frog.
he flys to a place where a hand/eyeball conveyor belt throws the guy the ball and he throws it.
then it disappears

im really stuck.
can anyone help me out?

Reply

Yay! I completed it with no help from JIG! Whoop! Ending could be better.

Reply

After clicking the frog twice, the ball gets tossed up never to be seen again. I right clicked and selected "play" from the menu which got the game in motion again. The ball reappeared and continued on to the flying head. When clicked, the head produces more heads and so on until the treasure box appears which seems to be empty. At the end, the ball rolls out. If you click it, though, you are taken to another window which has an error. mofunzone.com

Anyway, that's a fix for the ending.

I can't get to the game. It says "error 404" at the top... help?

Reply

A bit late, but it seems that while charging the generator, you must avoid going over the clickable man-with-arm thing or it will reset.
Good luck future players!
