Celebrating a job well-done is usually a good thing to do. Drinking enough to keep you from hearing the company taking off and leaving you on a lone planet, not so good of a thing. Thankfully one of the partiers was able to write up plans for your own rocket and another one can build it, but they need the special ore you were there to mine in the first place. So back into the dark mines with you to collect enough to make it back home in this platformer made for Ludum Dare.
Originally conceived as a Ludum Dare game, Pony Island has you trapped within a machine that's trying to bend you to its will. You'll need cleverness, fast hooves, and more than a little ingenuity to break free from this cunning, weird indie game that's full of surprises.
Praise Chernobog! He keeps our island running, and, in return, asks so precious little... You'll be the one making the hard choices in The Sacrifice, an island management simulation game developed for Ludum Dare 33 by foxboard. While its simulation mechanics are a little shaky, The Sacrifice hits hard with its banal evil, and one hopes for a refined post-comp version.
Antbassador is a physics platform game by Kevin Zuhn and his team that has been declared the winner of the Ludum Dare 30 72 hour "Connected Worlds" game jam. It stars a giant top hat-wearing finger trying desperately to make a good impression on a colony of ants, and often failing. The QWOP-style comedy of political frustrations may not be for everyone, but it has more than it's fair share of hilarious ant-tics.
Dive through earth and air in The Sun and Moon, a challenging platformer with an original concept and a beautiful, simplistic aesthetic. Fight conflicting gravities to collect all three Shinies and reach the exit in each level!
We've all dashed into a store at the last minute to grab a forgotten item. Mr. Pink Rabbit has a whole list of items he's got to collect before the store closes--and it closes in ten seconds! Set waypoints to create a path for the rabbit to follow through the aisles and to the checkout before time runs out in this hilarious game made in three days for the Ludum Dare competition.

Your life was just a simple one. But this morning, you've found this sparking mechanical creature in your front yard. Is it friendly? Is it hostile? Or, perhaps scariest of all... are you teaching it what to do? A Ludum Dare 24 entry by Paul Greasley, Soul Jar is adventure platformer that tasks you with directing the evolution of a robot companion, for good or for bad. Visually stunning, with a killer premise, Soul Jar is hampered by clunky controls, but demonstrates the creativity the Ludum Dare format can inspire.
Recluse is a short, cute, and creative metroidvania-style platform adventure game from chambers that tied for eighth place in the most recent Ludum Dare compo. Centered around the "tiny world" theme, you play a snail who has never left its shell and is now ready to emerge into the world. While much of the gameplay is standard platform fare, there is a unique mechanic that makes Recluse worth experiencing: screen shoving!

Bringing in the end of 2011 with a happy little ring, the 22nd Ludum Dare competition challenged participants to make a game based on a given theme within a 48 hour time frame. Over 700 entries were submitted, and after some rounds of user voting, everything has been ranked and categorized according to awesomeness. We've featured a few of our favorites below, each one representing the compo's "alone" theme quite nicely!

More Ludum Dare games, anyone? The 48-hour game creation-a-thon has ended yet another competition, inspiring developers from around the world to create almost 600 new games, all centered around the theme of "escape"! The voting has ended, the scores have been tallied, and we've picked some of our favorite downloadable titles to share with you!
