What Will Games Look Like in the Future?

The gaming industry has evolved a lot since it was invented many centuries ago. Games fall into different categories. However, video games have dominated the space since the first one was invented in the late 1950s.

The nature of the games you were used to when growing up is slightly different from what we have today. Even though some share concepts, we can now see advanced graphics, online tournaments, and online communities for various games. The differences you see today are just the beginning. This is what the future of games looks like:

Mobile Gaming Gone were the days when games were only played on gaming consoles. We now have games we can play on PCs and mobile devices. Game developers now appreciate that the demand for mobile games is rising.

On the other hand, smartphone and mobile device manufacturers have joined the race for mobile gaming dominance. We expect to see more gaming smartphones manufactured to cater to emerging mobile gamers. Game developers are also monetizing such games through in-game purchases.

Expect a lot of AI
Artificial intelligence has become a buzzword since ChatGPT was introduced in late 2022. AI is changing a lot of industries, and gaming has not been left behind. Some iGaming platforms like Casino Days already use AI to customize their website to improve player experiences.

We can now expect game creators to improve non-player characters (NPCs) and the interactions players have with them. We can also expect these games to continue generating unlimited content as they observe how players interact with various aspects of the games.

Virtual and Augmented Reality
The gaming world has been the biggest adopter of VR and AR technologies. If you are a gamer, you will no longer have to plan to go to physical gaming establishments as you can experience a similar experience while sitting on the sofa of your home.

However, this industry has yet to fully utilize what these two technologies offer. We expect to see more gaming platforms embracing virtual reality and the hardware becoming more affordable. We can expect to see such players interacting more with the digital world, even on physical gaming establishments.

Cloud Gaming
Most modern professional gamers buy consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox. This means they must carry their hardware devices whenever they want to game. However, this is now changing as people can play games hosted on the cloud rather than on their local devices.

Most gaming players like Microsoft and Google have already introduced cloud gaming through Xbox Cloud Gaming and Google Stadia, respectively. Gamers must be connected to high-speed and stable internet to get the best out of this technology. We will likely see more gaming providers providing variations of cloud gaming services for their existing products.

Dynamic Storytelling
Most game manufacturers tell stories through their products. We can also see games like The Lord of the Rings Online, which are based on classical literature. However, storytelling is just about to get better with artificial intelligence.

User-generated content will become the order of the day as players tell their stories. We are likely to see a scenario where a generative model requests you to describe a character and the controls you desire, and it generates a game.

Graphics are also improving as technology advances. We can now expect realistic characters that rhyme with the storylines. We can now say goodbye to static plots and enjoy dynamic storytelling with endless possibilities.

Conclusion
It might be hard to predict what the future holds. However, the current trends can highlight where the gaming industry is headed. Expect more AI, mobile gaming, AR & VR, cloud gaming, and dynamic storytelling to dominate this space.
