We love a good card game. We also love not having to fork over our life savings, our soul and one kidney for the means to keep our deck competitive. So naturally Dfiance caught our eye.
Dfiance is a strategic PVP card game reminiscent of The Witcher's Gwent, where you need to use your skill and cunning to outwit your opponent over a match. It's a game that values your tactics and choices over random chance.
It's fantasy-themed, with heroes and monsters facing off across the board. The game generates little animated effects with attacks, so your wizards can convincingly fling fireballs at one another, something that would probably get you escorted out of a local game shop.
It's also free to play.
Free Means Free
So if you've spent enough time around the games industry to get skeptical you've probably seen 'free to play' and assume that this means a pay-to-win exercise in futility. That's not true, though! Dfiance has no pay-to-win. If you succeed, then that's through your skill and tactics with your cards, not because you could drop money until you got an OP card.
The devs have put a big emphasis on making the card game feel fair and like victory is still possible, whether you're hardcore, or fitting in a few matches after work on a Friday. This is something we really appreciated.
Something else we loved about Dfiance is it doesn't take a lot to run. You only need 1GB of RAM minimum as a requirement to run it, so nobody needs to feel left out.
Watch The Clash

More recently, the devs have added a Spectator Mode, so you can sit back and watch a match. It's useful whether you want to relax, have a Dfiance night with your friends, or a sneaky way to pick up some cunning strats to use next time you're playing.
There are regular events, from Ranked Mode, and tournaments that keep the community lively. This along with a dev team that keeps the updates rolling in.
If you like the sound of this, the game is free, and you can pick it up now on Steam, you've got nothing to lose.
