Remember those old building sets you used to play with as a kid? Legos, K'NEX, Lincoln Logs, or just the geometric wooden blocks that were often painted bright colors. Man, those were fun. You could spend all day carefully setting up one building after another.
And then smashing them flat!
Enter Joey Betz, with Crush the Castle. In this self-describing title, you control a trebuchet and fling rocks at a castle. Fall, you stupid castle! Fall before the might of my rock-flinging prowess!
-ahem- Where was I? Ah, right. The controls are simple. Click once to start your trebuchet swinging, and again to release the rock towards the castle. Well, hopefully towards. You may find yourself sending a few straight up, straight down, or even backwards until you get the hang of it.
When you do get off a good shot, you get to watch it fly gracefully towards the castle, smash into a wall, and cause untold destruction, killing all of the inhabitants and turning the entire thing into a massive pile of rubble! Mwa-ha-ha!
-blinks- Er… Sorry, I'll try to stay more focused. If by some chance, you don't happen to eliminate all of your enemies with that shot, click one more time, and your trebuchet will be reset and rearmed. Don't go throwing those boulders willy-nilly, though, you've only got five shots to finish your destruction. Run out, and you'll have to retreat and try the level again.
As you progress through the game, you'll unlock additional types of ammunition. You can switch between them at any time by clicking on the type you want. Remember, bigger isn't always better. More usually is, though.
Analysis: If you've played a game called Castle Clout, you may note with dismay that this game looks very similar. Indeed, that was intentional, and was done with the permission of Castle Clout's maker. However, don't sell this game short because of that. Crush the Castle is not just a graphics update, it's a completely new game.
Controlling the trebuchet is much easier this time around, so you're actually in control. The goal is also different. You're not just trying to pummel the castle for points, you're trying to kill all the inhabitants.
The little creeps have an action movie extra's tendency to spout blood and die from the most minor injuries imaginable. And that's a Good Thing. They're like little festive piñatas, only filled with blood instead of candy. And if your indirect attack makes you feel a bit like a blindfolded kid with a bat, that only makes it all the more satisfying when a good shot makes the entire castle come crashing down, the residents spraying blood like miniature fireworks. It's like a birthday party and the Fourth of July all wrapped up in one! With blood!
This is a game that appeals to the inner five-year-old in all of us. The one that wants to knock something down, just because he can. Even when you've finished, it's a riot to take the triple-bomb (your final weapon) and go back and blow the earlier castles to smithereens! BOOM! \o/
But, hey, don't just take my word for it. Practice your Godzilla roar, and get ready to smash things!
A casual game in the truest sense of the word. You'll have no problem making your way through the campaign seeing as the difficulty is about as hard as these castles are structurally sound.
Fantastic artwork, great mechanic, good map and user interface but still the game is lacking. It is very repetitive and it comes down to luck more often than not.
Definitely a good foundation but, as with the castles in the game, it does not stand up too long
Could be a fun little time waster, but castle 5 seems to be buggy, ammo releases on it's own, leaving no way to aim.

Was fun for about 15 minutes. Replay value is about 2 times through as its fun to blow the smaller castles up with the later bombs.
Build your own castle is a nice addition, but is very time consuming.
Would be super great if you can play other peoples castles, that would be a great addition.

The game was quite fun! A few levels are too much dependent on luck though.
Very satisfying Monty Python action. And getting lucky is half the fun. I managed to down the last castle in one shot. Not reproducing that shot again!

Beat it SMJ. Managed to register a direct hit with a bomb on the king.
I enjoyed Castle Clout so I had high expectations for this game and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Although I'm not sure whether or not I enjoy the "kill everyone" goal instead of the points in Castle Clout.. On one hand, the points were fun to rack up and earn the other boulders, but the point giving calculations was a little weird, rewarding me more points for similar destruction. The kill everyone goal was enjoyable, the only downside being the annoying scenarios where one or two people are boxed in an impossible to get.
All in all it was a good game. there were a few levels toward the end that gave me trouble but through stubborn ambition, I got through it.

After a bit of swearing through the last few levels, made it through. Enjoying, if, as pointed above, only for the chance to destroy earlier castles with the bombs. Otherwise.. well it was okay.
L 17 is really tripping me up.
I'm getting a black screen when I try to play the game. Does anybody else have this problem?
Like others, I got a little frustrated by some later levels where a seemingly impenetrable "box" forms. Actually insulated by rubble. But a well-placed bomb that destroys nothing (but is apparently close enough to kill) will finally do the trick.
Definitely cool to wreak havoc the second time around with a superior arsenal against the flimsy earlier structures.
Flash eats memory. Started the game out just fine. Half way through, it was down to 15 fps. By the time I gave up it was barely going at 5 fps. Not that any of that is the games fault, but it's hard to enjoy a game when it's built on something so buggy.
Can anyone help me with Castle 18? I can kill everyone but the far right king. He is always left in rubble. thanks!
On my (old) laptop, the game becomes simply unplayable because of it's clunky programming: the game doesn't wait for me to actually have released my stone before it goes to focus on the castle, at which time I can't release it at all. My guess is that there's a timer that starts at the first click and triggers the change in focus after a fixed amount of time, no matter how slowly the game runs. This is just plain stupid.
Nathan, the best way to beat Level 17 is to knock the top off that tower so you can hit the two people in the back. I think I used the medium boulders to get the best distance and power.
I'm having troubles with lvl 17 as well. I can at least hit the top of the tower and knock it sideways, but I can't get it all the way off, and then the rocks can't reach the last two people.

Sorry. Let me explain: they don't look like women warriors, just maids or ladies-in-waiting, and queens. The queens I can halfway understand, they could lead the enemy, but noncombatants?

I'm having trouble with Castle 23... I can get the bottom three, and occasionally the fourth, but I can never get the king at the top.

Castle 17 was tough, but 18! Ugh, I can't figure it out.
Something a few people seem to be having trouble with is game lag. I found that if you use the arrow keys to pan back and forth between the trebuchet and the castle it can smooth out fps. Also check the little menu tab in the upper right corner, and set game quality lower. (This seems to reset itself back to high for some reason)
Joeynow - those queens are strong warriors. On level 24, they thwart you by holding up the roof with their dead bodies! They have load bearing corpses.
It's safe to call them Amazons, in that they have the ability to move exactly as a knight does...
The most annoying thing for me in the game: The three second wait after your last shot, when you already know it has failed, in which the reset button doesn't work. I just want to get on with the game, but it has to make me wait for a useless taunt window. Argh.

Great Structural properties and is nice to look at... I can't even defeat all 26 people.
Most of the codes you're posting seem to be missing something. I pasted all of them in, and half gave me "bad code" errors, the others only placed a few walls.
Maybe add some line-breaks to them, let people remove those manually to make it all one line.
How do you do Castle 17? It's really hard.
Repetitive and more then a little sadistic. I feel more like a commander of a firing squad than a soldier putting a siege on the Castle.
I don't like how the choice of "ammo" is non-existent because the further ones are ALWAYS better. Also, I've passed each level in the first three tries (most of them in the first try) yet the last one is nigh-impossible.
So nice graphics, a bit amusing, but still lacking.
what needs to be done is obvious, just make that perfect shot...

I love little games like these, and it was fun killing off all those playing card-esque, ridiculously fragile noblemen, who all seem to die ever so politely :p
But I have two little qualms: when you win, it pauses everything. This seems to be a bad habit of physics games in general, and it really aught to stop. I consider watching the whole terrible mess play out in its entirety to be its own reward, and the "you win!" just ruins everything. I KNOW I won, now stop blocking the screen and let me watch the blocks fall. Hrumph.
The other is more of a bug, I think. It seems the 3-2-1 counter when you reach your last shot ruins any hope of a close call by giving you a fail condition before its time actually runs out. Three times I found myself losing even though everyone died before the timer dropped below 1. Not cool.
Or rather, it was merely slightly annoying, since redoing a level often involves little-to-no backtracking. And of course, half the fun is finding new ways to destroy everything. Such is the nature of the beast. And that beast is you. And you are a trebuchet.
Oh, and I agree, the choice of 3-seconds interval when for some reason the reset button is rendered ineffective is borderline idiotic. It's like it was made for the sole purpose of driving up the frustration factor.
Tried my hand at building one. This is based off my observation that the hardest part of the game wasn't causing a castle to collapse, per se, but killing a guy who managed to SURVIVE the collapse, buried under the rubble.
So the castle does the collapsing for you. You just have to figure out how to kill the king. :p

Well, I am kind of split about this game.
Certainly, it is fun and satisfying to see something fall over, but the bad thing about this is: in the later levels, it is pure luck to place the bomb-pack just in the right spot so everything falls over. I tried level 23 like 20 times, hitting different things and roughly nothing but the top of the front tower moved. Then, I got lucky and everything collapsed and everyone died. Same for level 24, just less failure involved.

The reason the game seems sexist is because it's being historically accurate.
In the times of Kings and Queens, the women were never armored and yes, those times were very sexist against women.
You can't change history.
Back then, Women never fought in battle (except for maybe Joan of Arc) ...but in saying that, when their castles were attacked women were definitely in side them and more than likely killed.
So in saying that, there is nothing wrong with the way this game is set out. You can't always be politically correct =)

Did anybody else notice that Castle 20 is inherently unstable? Instead of firing at it, just hit the right arrow to scroll your view back to the castle...all those klunking noises are the castle, gradually vibrating itself apart.
Be patient, and you can occasionally beat this level without ever firing any shots.
(Overzealous's "Blast-Off!" suffers the same fate.)
I've been able to beat all the player levels easily, some in 1 shot! Mine's the only one I've had real trouble with...
