The gaming industry has always liked incorporating animal characters into their creations. Cats, in particular, have found a special place in the hearts of developers and players alike. From cuddly companions to fierce hunters, these games celebrate the perfect combination of engaging gameplay and cat love.

In this article, we'll be looking at five cat-themed games you need to check out. Whether you want to play Cats, an online slot game, or the mobile-friendly Neko Atsume, these games will have you returning for more, giving you hours of endless fun and exciting gameplay.

Cat Quest (2017)

Cat Quest is a brilliant, open-world RPG developed by Gentlebros. Set in the enchanting and magical world of Felingard, this kitty-themed game will have you getting up to all kinds of trouble, embarking on an adventure to save your feline sister from the grasp of Drakoth. Did we mention that you're a cat who's also a knight in shining armor? If you want to be the hero who saves the day and has plenty of fun along the way, this game is definitely for you.

As you make your way through the brilliantly crafted world of Felingard, you'll encounter all kinds of feline-themed characters, good and bad, who will help or hinder your quest and provide plenty of extra excitement. As well as a great array of characters, there's plenty of combat for you to get stuck into and endless quests to help you sharpen your skills and prepare yourself for the big finale. Plenty of puzzles also provide a nice change of pace for gamers who aren't big fans of combat.

Gato Roboto (2019)

Gato Roboto, developed by Doinksoft, is an adorable yet challenging Metroidvania-style game featuring a cat protagonist named Kiki. When Kiki's human companion crash-lands on a mysterious planet, it's up to you to don your powerful mech suit and navigate through the alien world. Gato Roboto delivers a delightful retro gaming experience with monochrome pixel art and charming character design. It's a great game that we're sure you'll love, especially if you're a big fan of indie Metroidvania games.

If you aren't familiar with the Metroidvania style of games, they're a sub-section of the indie adventure classics that we're sure you've played before. The term is a portmanteau of the names of the video game series Metroid and Castlevania, which helped bring this genre of games into the spotlight; games that encourage the player to explore specific areas of the broader map, only unlocking once a player has received certain items or completed essential quests.

Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector (2014)

As the name suggests, Neko Astsume: Kitty Collector involves the player having to collect and care for the many cats that come their way, taking care of their needs and ensuring they're as happy as possible. If you love to care for cats and have as much fun as possible with them, or live somewhere that doesn't accommodate cats, this game will be especially significant as you can live your feline-collecting fantasies.

Not only is it entertaining, but it's also super relaxing. To collect the many different cats that are found in the game, you'll need to lure these feline friends to your garden with food, toys and cozy furniture - after all, can any cat resist the comfort of a soft blanket or bed? While it's not the most complex of games, it doesn't need to be. The game is designed to be simple but entertaining, letting gamers play with the cats that they've collected while also being able to add to their collection when the time is right.

Night in the Woods (2017)

Night in the Woods, a single-player adventure game developed by Infinite Fall, follows Mae Borowski, a cat who has dropped out of college and headed back to her hometown, Possum Springs. The game's narrative is excellent and follows Mae as she explores her town and reconnects with old friends, uncovering the mysterious events that have been happening in the woods. Night in the Woods has been praised by gamers for its unique storytelling, engaging design and memorable characters.

Cats (2019)

If you're a fan of online games that have the potential for you to win big and have fun at the same time, you'll absolutely love Cats. The Cats slot game ranks among the top online slots available. Don't be misled by the title and expect to find fluffy felines and cute kittens. Instead, this five-reel, 30-pay-line slot game showcases the majestic world of wild cats in all their glory. Prepare to encounter fierce lions, tigers and cheetahs as the spotlight falls on these magnificent big cats.

As you'd expect, Cats is a classic 5x3 slot game, and this is pretty standard for online and physical slot games, and there's nothing wrong with that. While only a small addition, the sunset background behind the reels adds further realism to the game, while the cats themselves also look fantastic. In keeping with the theme, the highest-value symbols include lions, tigers, black panthers, mountain lions and cheetahs, which help keep you absorbed in the in-game world.

Conclusion

These five cat-centric video games provide a diverse range of experiences for gamers of all kinds, from action-packed adventures to calming simulations. If you're a cat lover looking to immerse yourself in a virtual world filled with feline friends, these games will satisfy your craving for cat-themed entertainment.

Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector (2014) is a mobile app, available from Google play or Apple app store. Looks like great fun! And other than Cats (2019) which we cannot seem to locate, the rest of these games are available for download on Steam.
