Originally released on the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace, Nostatic Software has recently brought its thoughtful little puzzle adventure game Quiet, Please! to Android and iOS devices, allowing you to explore (and shut people up!) on the go. It's a great fit for the small touch screen and will remind you of old school adventure games like Maniac Mansion, both in terms of gameplay and overall puzzle design.
After an annoying day at school, you just want to go home, have some peace and quiet, and take a nap. Unfortunately, everybody is making noise! The neighbor is mowing his lawn, dad's watching TV, mom is talking on the phone, the kittens are being a nuisance, and your little brother is, well, being your little brother. What's an angry/resourceful young girl to do? Why, make everybody shut up, of course! Move around the game's sidescrolling levels with the arrows at the bottom of the screen, and use the "interact" and "item" buttons to work with your environment. You have limited inventory space, you'll need to do a lot of exploring and experimentation to get items where you need them and figure out how they contribute to a noise-free home.
Quiet, Please! has a very old school feel to it, from the subtle sense of humor to the fantastic 2D design. The setting and story are also something every one of us can identify with (yes, I'm talking to you, neighbor who uses the leaf blower every day even though there are no leaves on the ground can't you see I'm trying to write a casual game review here?!!). The interface is simple but manages to get a lot done with just a few buttons. And really, all you need are a few buttons, as most of the more complex interactions are taken care of by the game. Getting some blissful quiet requires a lot of work and a lot of puzzle solving, but it's the sort of work you'll love doing!
NOTE: This game was played and reviewed on an HTC Incredible. Game was available in the North American market at the time of publication, but may not be available in other territories. Please see individual app market pages for purchasing info.

Quiet, Please! Walkthrough
You'll start at the sidewalk. Move right to see Mr. Peabody's yard. You can also see a sprinkler and a doghouse. You can't do anything with any of them yet.
Move right, open the door, and go inside. You can try turning the TV off, but Dad will just turn it right back on.
Proceed on to the right to see Mom on the phone. Try to go upstairs and she'll stop you. There are a few other things in here, though.
Open the fridge and take the steak inside. Go left until you're outside again, and give the steak to the dog.
Okay, you can turn on the sprinkler now. Mr. Peabody will go turn it off when you do, which gives you an opening to do something with the lawnmower... but there's nothing you can do yet.
Oh well. Go all the way to the right to get back inside the kitchen, and open the door to proceed into the dining room.
That grandfather clock is ticking away, but you can't open it. Note the comic book on the table and the vase in the cupboard; they'll be useful later, but we've got other things to do first.
At the end, you can use the open doorway to go downstairs, but you can also use the closed door in the background to get to the back of the house. Do the latter.
Go as far right as possible, which isn't very far since the garage door is closed. You can extend the ladder and climb up it, but there's no reason to do so here.
Backtrack to the living room for another door leading to the back of the house. Note the satellite dish to the right; you can't reach it yet, though. Open the door to the left and go on through.
You're now in the garage. Open the fridge and take the wine. Go left, pushing the button on the way to open the garage door. You'll get back to the first background door.
Go to the kitchen. Put the wine bottle on the table and Mom will shut up AND let you upstairs. Nice!
But we're not done down here yet. Go get the vase from the dining room, then turn on the kitchen sink and fill it with water (don't forget to turn the water off afterwards).
Go left to get outside again. Turn on the sprinkler, then run to the lawn mower and use the water vase to sabotage it. You've got to get there before Mr. Peabody turns the sprinkler off again; practice your timing and try when he's towards the left.
Now go to the kitchen and go upstairs. Go right; note the attic door on the ceiling, and the locked door to the right. Interesting.
Go back to the first floor and use one of the background doors to return to the garage area. Take the ladder.
Go back to the second floor and put the ladder beneath the attic door, then extend it. The attic door should be opened.
Scale the ladder and take the screwdriver from the table. Hmm... you'll have to come back when you've got another light source.
Leave the screwdriver somewhere, like in the fridge where the wine was. You won't need it right now.
Take the lamp from the garage shelf.
Take the lamp to the attic and put it on the table where the screwdriver was, then turn it on (interact) to illuminate the rest of the attic.
Go left. Take the ball of yarn from the chair.
Return to the second floor and leave the ball of yarn in the cat bed (it's red).
Open the door to the left to enter your bedroom, which has three white kittens meowing in it.
The kittens will follow you if you move slowly. Guide all of them to the cat bed.
Pick the ladder up again.
Go to the area to the right of the garage (the door in the living room's the shortest route). Put the ladder down somewhere in the area and extend it.
You can now reach the antenna... but you can't do anything with it with your bare hands. Luckily we already fetched the object we need.
Go get the screwdriver from wherever you left it. Use it on the antenna to disable it.
Go to the living room. Dad has fallen asleep. Turn off the TV.
Go through the foreground door on the second floor to get to your kid brother's room. He'll start wandering around the house, but will sometimes follow you. Take the remote-controlled car from his shelf.
Go to the basement and drop the remote-controlled car. Anywhere is fine.
Get your little brother to the basement. If you're carrying the comic book, he'll be certain to follow you.
Control the remote-controlled car (stand near it empty-handed and tap Interact). Your brother will chase it; lead him to the far left so he picks up the detergent, then lead him back right and let him drop it.
To stop controlling the car, you need to pick it up. Do so, then leave it anywhere; you're done with it.
Take the detergent and put it in the washing machine.
Go back to your kid brother's room and pick up his dirty pyjamas.
Go put the pyjamas in the washing machine, then close it to wash them.
Transfer the clean, wet pyjamas to the clothes dryer and close it to dry them.
Get your brother to start reading the comic book. I find a good way to do so is to leave it somewhere besides the floor, like on the dining room table where it originally was.
While he's reading, put the pyjamas on him. He'll go to bed.
Reenter your kid brother's room one more time. Open his window on the left and climb through it; from there, open the other window and enter it.
You're now in the locked room. Take the clock key from the cupboard, then open the left door. Yes, it was locked, but it opens from this side.
Use the clock key to unlock the grandfather clock in the dining room, then open it and stop the pendulum.
Go to bed. (Far left room, second floor. Interact with the bed.) Goodnight!
