Joshvampirephysics.jpgThere are numerous casual physics puzzles out there, but not too many with bite. Many of them are a pain in the neck, without enough good content to really sink your teeth into or get your blood boiling. Well my friends, that is about to change with this monstrous entry in the phuzzle realm by Ozdy, Cathy M and robotJAM: Vampire Physics.

Vampire Physics takes a familiar game concept but adds a fun spin on it thanks to an amusing horror theme. Instead of using physics to manipulate colored balls or shapes, each level's goal is to turn all humans into vampires by making your vampire touch and bite them. To get the bloodsuckers rolling (or falling), click on various wooden blocks and platforms to remove them. Things get more challenging with the introduction of deadly priests, stinky garlic, and pesky rival vampires. On top of that, humans turn into werewolves (which kill vampires) unless the full moon can somehow be obscured.

The mix of these various characters and objects leads to some fun and amusing gameplay. There are 36 levels filled with inclined planes, ropes, moving contraptions, and other bite-sized physics challenges. Beating each level is satisfying, and part of the fun is seeing how the characters and theme will be implemented next. Beyond the standard levels, there are additional bonus user levels to try, and you can even make your own challenges with the included level editor.

It's worth noting that some of the levels in Vampire Physics are more straightforward than others, and a few require a bit of luck that may require a liberal application of level restarts. Regardless, with its cute characters and lighthearted vampire theme, Vampire Physics has enough charm to easily suck your break time away.

Vampire Physics Walkthrough

This walkthrough will help you get through all 36 levels with as few clicks as possible. Things to remember:

  • Vampires must touch humans to turn them into vampires.

  • A human that turns into a vampire can be used to turn other humans into vampires.

  • Priests kill vampires by touching them.

  • Garlic kills vampires.

  • Humans can eat garlic to remove them.

  • Rival vampires that touch humans turn them into rival vampires. You must bite the humans before your rival does!

  • When a level contains the full moon, it turns humans into werewolves, which kill vampires and priests.

  • You can cover the full moon to change werewolves back into humans. They can be turned into vampires safely during this state.

  • Vampire bats need momentum to fly in any direction.

    Level 20

This one's tricky. Click the peg to the right of the triangle near the bottom, then the peg to the left to move the triangle into the corner. Click the peg holding the rival vampire, swinging your vampire to the left to hit the swinging human. Release the leftmost vampire into the left pit, and your original vampire down onto the human below.

    Level 25

Another tricky level. Click the right peg holding the platform. Release the pegs next to the two priests, making them roll down to the right. Click the left most peg holding the platform as the platform starts swinging automatically to the left. Click the pegs holding the right-most humans. Click the leftmost human's peg, then the vampire's peg, and they should roll down and to the left.

    Level 26

    Level 29

Click the other peg to release the ball when it swings to the left. Wait for it to roll into the lower area. Click the wooden platform to drop the vampire towards the human. The ball should block the rival vampire.

    Level 30

Tricky indeed! Click the vampire's peg to make him fall into the center hole. Click the two right pegs to make the human fall into the center hole. Click the left peg holding the wooden ball to swing it to the right, knocking the priest. Before he falls into the center, click the other peg to make the ball drop and cover the middle. Click the other peg holding back the second priest. Click the ball to make the center accessible again, then click the final peg holding the human so he falls into the center as well.

    Level 31

Click the peg to release the metal block (avoiding the swinging vampires). Click the peg to release the rightmost vampire onto the werewolf when he's human. When the vampire swings left again, release his peg to make him fall diagonally towards the human.

    Level 32

Click the bottom right peg, then the priest's platform to send him down. Click the werewolf's platform to send him down as well. Click the peg holding back the wooden ball, then quickly click the platform so the vampire can fall onto the newly-transformed human.

    Level 33

Wait for the rising platform to be down. Click the left peg holding the metal box to swing it right, then click the peg to release it onto the rising platform. Click the platform holding the human so he falls and eats the garlic. Click the vampire's platform and he will hit the human when he rolls back.

    Level 34

Click the upper-rightmost diagonal platform, then the lower-leftmost diagonal platform. Click the priest's platform to send him to the lower-left. Now click the lower-rightmost diagonal platform, and the remaining platforms holding back the vampire and the two humans.

    Level 35

Click the platform holding the top-middle box, then the second middle platform. Click the vampire's peg to send him down the middle. Click the human's leftmost peg to swing him towards the vampire, then release the new hanging vampire's peg to drop him onto the human below. Click the two platforms holding the middle vampire to send him to the right. Now click the bottom-middle platform. Click the priest's peg, then the horizontal platform he was standing on. Click the human's peg and he should fall onto the vampire.

    Level 36

Last level! Click the rightmost peg holding the triangular platform, then quickly click the left peg to release it. Click the peg holding back the vampire's cart and wait for him to travel over the ramp. Once the front wheel clears the ramp, click his cart to make the vampire fall on top of the rival vampire. Click the peg holding the piece above the human to tip him towards the vampire. You may need to restart the level several times before it works correctly!

Those vampire puns were painful to read.

Level 20 is just bad game design. If you can clearly see the intended solution but still can't do it after 15 restarts, something is wrong with the game. The bat vampire either needs to have some weak attraction towards the human or they need to design the level better. They should have had the bat enter a small hole and replace the second sphere with a block that falls on the bat to propel it downwards to bounce perfectly off the ramp. There is just too much luck involved with the level as it is. When the developer doesn't even iron out problem levels like that one, I don't even care that I can't get past that level to see the rest of the game because I know the developer doesn't care about the game and didn't playtest it enough.

Vampires come to no harm touching other vampires (even rivals!).

@Chris - yeah, I was about to complain on that, too.

Other than level 20, which I also repeated several times(5?), the other levels are not really dependent on luck for me.

You dont need the cart in the last level - just let the vampire roll on his own ;)

How to beat Level 20--Obviously do what the spoiler tells you BUT when you get to the part where the vampire bat falls, make sure you make go as close to the left wall as possible. It might take you a few tries (it didn't for me, though) but it should get the job done. -nutty48

I got 20 in one go but 31 is driving me nuts. The timing has to be PERFECT. Also, the walkthrough is missing something for 31.
