Pop quiz! The fact that there is now a game about poking cats is: A) Awesome or B) AWEsome. Your answer will greatly influence your future. Think carefully.
Momodora (Windows, 3MB, free) - A game that draws obvious inspiration from Cave Story, Momodora is a sidescrolling platformer where you play an orphan girl searching for a rare item hidden deep within a labyrinth. You'll spend a fair amount of time trekking through winding cave passageways and gathering new items and weapons, but the focus is more on combat than exploration, and the challenge level is cranked up to above average.
Nudo (Windows, 3.2MB, free) - A delicious little puzzle game with an official description that reads "...a platformer on top of a rubik's cube". How cool is that? The little protagonist guy can move around with the [WASD] keys, jumping and walking like you would expect. His other power, though, is the ability to shift blocks both vertically and horizontally from his position. Use the [arrow] keys to shift entire rows of blocks in any direction, positioning them so you can grab the little coin thingies and make it to the exit. Yes, it's about as difficult as a Rubik's cube in some places. And that's awesome!
8:Capsule (Windows, 7MB, free) - It's a puzzle game. Don't pass the number eight, though. Really, don't. But, you know, if you do, just use the [WASD] keys to move and the mouse to click on objects. See what you can click on, and when things are selected, use the [right] mouse button to launch them. It's great when things bump into other things, isn't it? Now, see if you can figure out how to solve each level. Obtuse at times, but fun!
Cat Poke (Windows, 5MB, free) - Bored on a rainy day? Why not run around the house trying to poke the cats?! Move from side to side in this 2D game, entering doors with the [s] key and poking cats with the same. Most cast are hidden and need some coaxing to come out and play, which is where the items and inventory puzzles come in to play. A quirky, surprisingly interesting game with superb artwork and a premise that's too cute to ignore.
Note: All games have been confirmed to run under Windows Vista and are virus-free. Mac users should try Boot Camp, Parallels, or CrossOver Games to play Windows titles, Linux users can use Wine. If you know of a great game we should feature, use the Submit link above to send it in!
Aww. Cat poke doesn't want to download for me. ;-;
8:Capsule was an interesting idea, but somewhat short and what was the sound at the end meant to be?
Cat Poke was super cute. Took me longer than I care to admit to figure out how to get the last two kitties, though. Hehe.
I can't figure out the second room of 8:capsule
Nevermind. Power of posting. Odd end to 8:capsule for sure.
In Cat Poke, I only have Mistoffelees, Demeter, Rumpelteazer, Macavity, and Tumblebrutus left and I only have
a flashlight
. Some stuff I know:
Mistoffelees is behind the TV.
Demeter is hiding under the girl's bed.
Rumpelteazer is behind the toilet. I used the toilet paper on her and she's scratching it, but I have no idea what this does.
Macavity, I haven't found, but presumably he's in the attic.
Tumblebrutus is in the washing machine.
I need help with Turnblebrutus
I have all the other cats done and in my inventory, I have the flashlight, ladder, candle, and the Octopus. I know you use the candle to draw him out, but I can't figure out how to use it.
Reece, for Rumpelteazer:
You have to scare her.
Do the noisest thing in the toilet!
Full spoilers following.
Mistoffelees
Jump up to TV, crouch and poke red button on right side of TV to turn it on.
Leave room then reenter.
Poke.
Demeter
Crouch and sidle over within poking range.
Rumpelteazer
Jump on top of toilet bowl. Hang TP. Crouch and flush the toilet. Leave room then reenter.
Macavity
Get the ladder and flashlight. Use the ladder to get into the attic. Use the light to find him.
Tumblebrutus
Jump and poke in mid-air to turn on stove. Get on top of stove and light candle.
Jump and poke in mid-air to turn off washing machine.
Put candle to the left of the machine and he should jump out.
Can someone tell me how to poke the cat in the dining room?
How do I get Mungojerrie (the cat under the bed) in Cat Poke? It's the only one I have left.
Also, seconding a call for help on level 2 of 8:Capsule.
I've just finished Nodu. If it weren't for the soothing, calming tune playing in the background, I might have thrown my hopes of beating the last few levels through the window, along with my keyboard and what not. It's a decent game overall, but boy is it challenging at the end!
Cat poke was great and very cute.
Cassandra (the cat in the dining room):
According to the item/cat menu "Cassandra always eats supper on her throne". So you need something to eat and you need a throne of some sort.
You'll find some food in the kitchen (bottom floor, first door left of the stairs). You'll find a pillow in Mollys bedroom (upstairs, first door right of the stairs). Place both items on the table infront of Cassandra
Mungojerrie (the cat under the double bed):
According to the menu "Mungojerrie likes to sleep with Mommy and Daddy". That's not much of a clue, but try to find mommy and you'll find something else Mungojerrie likes.
In one of the rooms upstairs you'll find mommy knitting a sweater (for daddy?). You'll also spot some yarn. But you can't grab the whole ball of yarn. You'll need to cut off a piece. For that you need something sharp. Downstairs you'll find a pair of scissors in the room with the big ladder. Once you've got the piece of yarn, the item description will read "Mungojerrie likes to play with yarn". Tease the cat with the yarn.
Mudo was a really nice game with it's lovely music, puzzles weren't too difficult once you got into the pattern of it. Although the penultimate one had me stumped for a while.
Cat Poke is the cutest game in the history of mankind until further notice.
In Cat Poke, did anyone notice
that the tv has adventure time on it? And that the two people in the pictures in the upstairs look a little like cave story characters?
Cat poke is a very cute game, funny in the gross way of course :) It certainly seems to have a lot of nerd cred, which is pretty delightful!
Oh, but I do need some clarification for Tumblebrutus:
I've lighted the candle, now where do I put it?
:) I spy Tower of Heaven.
I enjoyed Cat Poke immensely, although the premise is just a little awkward
Where's the candle in Cat Poke?
I must be a noob or something, but I can't figure out how to use items in the inventory. Any help?
