I am pleased to report that this week's Mobile Monday features three games that are certifiably "replayable". Each one practically begs you to come back and play again and again, and they all deliver something unique each time you do!
Sword of Fargoal - The dungeon crawler is a classic role playing "genre" that seems to be lost to the modern gamer. Sword of Fargoal aims to change that with easy controls, intuitive gameplay, and a perfect pick-up-and-play style that suits casual gamers just fine. Randomly-generated dungeons are ripe for exploration, and each time you open a treasure chest, you're taking a chance to spring a trap instead of finding gold. A superb game (that also looks great) you'll play over and over again.
Paper Bridge - A physics-based building game with an irresistible art style. Your simple goal is to build a bridge so a vehicle can get from point A to point B. Fixed points on the screen serve as your foundation, all you have to do is draw black road lines and use green support girders to make the thing sturdy. The cars are always different, ranging from heavy trucks to speedy bikes and even trains! The difficulty takes a few levels to set in, but once it does, you'll be amazed how challenging such a simple game can be.
Babo Crash - Matching-centric puzzle games tend to be drab and boring. No matter how many sparkly colors you throw on the screen, you're still just swapping tiles to clear the board. Babo Crash is anything but boring. Matching several like-colored pieces summons a hero who, when activated, causes some serious destruction. Expect explosions, burning comet-like things, falling bombs, big-fisted punches, and vomit. Yes, vomit. Easily the wildest match-3 game on the iTunes App Store!
NOTE: Games listed may not be available outside of North America. Prices are subject to change and are therefore unlisted. Please see the individual game pages for purchasing info.
Sword of Fargoal is awesome. I got it as a free-for-the-day thing but having played it now, I'd happily pay for it.
It would be nice if you would put something visible in the post saying that these games are only available on the iPhone. When the post is titled "MOBILE GAMING," those of us without iPhones might tend to think that you showcase games for a variety of platforms.
[The "platform" is clearly marked in the header of the post: (iPhone, iPod Touch). -Jay]
Nevermind, it's there, just in a green that is hard to see. I had clicked through to the full post and it loaded the page at the header image for Mobile Monday. And I had only read the title when scanning it on the front page. Looks like you already do this. Thanks!
Seconding the recommendation for Fargoal. I bought it when it came out and have a lot of fun with it. The recent update brought a massive amount of changes and content to it, and it really is one of those roguelikes you can sink hours into. There's no character customisation to speak of, and I would have preferred to be able to find new weapons and armor, but if dungeon crawling is your thing, Fargoal delivers it in a teeny-tiny package.
Following from Garlange's comment... do you know if you will look at any other platforms for mobile gaming in the near future? Sadly I don't have an iphone, but do have an android powered phone, which has a growing market. It would make a few of us happy if you had a look at just a few non i related games!
Looked on the forum for Sword of Fargoal (I remember the original...) and the developers think they might be converting it, so clearly some games are coming!
