Beaterator
Finally, a full-featured rhythm and sound loop utility written in Flash. From Rockstar Games comes this free Web-based application that lets you create loops and mixes from a variety of sources, even your own. Mix and play with the pre-loaded library of drum and synth samples and loops, or upload your own sounds up to 1MB each in size, and even play them back at any BPM from 30 to 200!
Beaterator features a mixer, sound and loop libraries, a loop crafter, a keyboard for modifying the pitch of any sound for melodic playback, and an effects processor for adding one of 5 studio effects to any sound. By registering with Rockstar—which will sign you up for receiving announcements about Rockstar products—you can even save your creations locally by downloading them as mp3 files.
There is a lot that Rockstar has crammed into this Flash Web-app, so much so that the performance of the interface suffers, though the playback timing of the sound files seemed consistent. I experienced some interface problems with it on a PC in Firefox, but it worked just fine in Internet Explorer. It's a great utility if you have the time and patience to play around with it, and best of all, it's totally free to use. Click.
O_O And to think... I spent months begging my friend to get me Fruity Loops...
I don't think Beaterator will be replacing any commercial package anytime soon. At the very least, not until they turn it into an executable that will run locally.
Nice, but after testing it out I found a glitch where it keeps messing with the location of my mouse pointer. A shame too, it looks like such fun...
Yes, the same thing happened to me in Firefox, and as I mentioned in the post, using IE seems to avoid those problems.
Doh, should have read more thoroughly!
yeah it only comes up on a pop up in your face 2 times saying useing IE for this program is better... tsk tsk
i dont know about you guys but i found beaterator to be the best free music maker around its so easy i didn't find any thing wrong when i used it i use netscape and it works fine. the only thing i guess is you really have to patient when experimenting with diffent sounds cause they have a lot and in order to make a custom beat or sound you really have to listen to all the loops any way i recommed trying it!!
I have had problems with Beaterator putting strange sounds at the begining of my songs. otherwise I think its fantastic, just with it ran locally
worked fine on firefox but tryed it on IE and gave me a trojan, good thing my fire wall cleaned it fast:)
No trojans for me, though I am using the IE 7 beta 2 release.
For what it's worth, one more reason not to use IE.
For some reason, I don't hear any sounds from the system. I'm using IE7, but nothing is different from FireFox.
Also, I played the demo, and it had sound. So it isn't a problem with my speakers or anything.
Using IE 7 here and the sounds work fine. So, it's not the application that's the problem.
Are you selecting one of the sounds before placing it in one of the cells? Are you clicking the tiny little play button (looks like a triangle pointint to the right, just left of the time display?)
