Everyone knows Tesshi-e and Robamimi. But what about Mike Morin? Ben Leffler? Eli Piilonen? These (and more!) may not be the names you immediately think of when you want to play an escape game, so we're here to change that. Here are twelve of the best escape games you might not have played!

Lucky Tower 2Von Wanst has shiny teeth, shiny hair, and an even shinier sword. You'd think that would be enough, but our dim-witted, greedy hero wants even more. What starts as a simple journey to escort the King's friend safely to the castle turns disastrous, but might prove an opportunity for even more adventure and treasure in this silly, quirky, and toothy action-adventure from Exotworking.

Bloodbath AvenueThey say there's a safehouse on the other side of the city, but between you and it is an entire city full of zombies. In this vertical scrolling action game, play as one of two heroes and bash, blast, and even drive your way through stages filled with unique objectives, earning skills and upgrades. Though suffering from slow movement and grinding, Bloodbath Avenue is still a fun throwback to classic arcade games.

PhoenotopiaHours of action RPG goodness can be found in this deceptively simple browser game that's bursting with gorgeous visuals and a soundtrack to match. Your village is abducted by a mysterious spaceship, leaving you to fight your way through dozens of fascinating locations across a deep and detailed world.

Submachine 2: The LighthouseA sequel to Mateusz Skutnik's excellent point-and-click adventure series, Submachine 2 will have you mapping out tunnels as you explore the dark recesses of this classic-style Flash game. The Submachine series is among the best on the Web, so if you love first-person adventures, ala Myst, don't miss this one.

Scene of the Crime: Dream of MurderA body found in the trunk of a crashed car leads you on a chase for clues and a killer with old motives all over town... as well as attracting the attention of the FBI. Test Subject Arena 2In Nitrome's latest release in the Test Subject series, Test Subject Arena 2 offers everything the first installment had and more! More characters to choose from (including the funny looking black storm trooper looking guards) and more options to play the game! Challenge them for a roaring good time!

Room ΓHere is a full scale escape-the-room adventure made (near) perfect by Kotorinosu's skillful design. Inexplicably locked inside these space age surroundings, with no narrative or changing cursor to guide you, you're left to your observational skills and ability to make connections between clues, using objects (repeatedly) to break through multiple locks until you are free. It's lengthy enough and challenging enough to hold you captive for most the afternoon, both in frustration and delight.

Lakeview CabinIt may LOOK like an "idyllic cottage weekend simulator", but this clever twist on a puzzle game is anything but. You'll have to figure out some way to survive the weekend using the limited tools around you, but beware... gruesomeness and red herrings abound.

RRRRThats5RsYou'll either love or hate the following Flash diversions from the fresh-faced wiseacres at RRRRThats5Rs. Accurately describing their creations as "frustrating games," RRRR often attempts to upend expectations of what a game should be, and even draw attention to the absurdity that can result from goal-based gameplay taken to extremes.

Wasted Youth Part OneWell it finally happened. After years of cheating, fighting and swirlying, you've been expelled, and your parents aren't happy. The only thing standing between you and juvenile detention is St. Frost's School for Slackers, Troublemakers and Idiots. The students are a mixed bag of violent sadists and amiable dunces, the teachers aren't much better, and the last new student had a nervous breakdown after two months. But hey, you ruled one school before didn't you? How different can this one be? It's all about doing the right things for the right people... So is the premise of Wasted Youth, the new open world adventure-RPG from GPStudios.

Coffee ShopLike an updated version of the classic Lemonade Stand game, Coffee Shop puts you in a young entrepreneur's shoes with the power to make or break your budding business. Buy ingredients, adjust your secret recipe, and set the price per cup to sell as much coffee to passers-by as you can. Strike a balance between customer satisfaction and profit and you're on your way to java-induced bliss.

Silent ConversationThe new game from Gregory Weir is an unabashedly highbrow and experimental platform game, where the ground is made up of literature. Try to touch as many words as you can, as prose by H.P. Lovecraft, T.S. Eliot and others stretches out before you. It's interesting enough just to be forced to read by a platform game, but the real treat is all the visual embellishments.

Turbo KidsEugene Yailenko gets frosty... or at least his new action-packed racing game does! In Turbo Kids, race across snowy landscapes, leaping over hazards and firing freezing projectiles at your opponents, to take top prize on various courses, netting upgradeable power-ups and some sweet achievements along the way.

Baba YagaYou're captured by a witch and locked inside her treehouse. So what do you do? Look around, there's a large host of enchanted items and magic spells at your disposal, any number of which could be your key to freedom. The hard part is figuring out which is which and, being a nonmagical being, using it all properly in this whimsical point-and-click adventure from Barbara Jarosik of Pastel Games.

My Father's Long, Long LegsIn this creepy bit of Twine-delivered interactive fiction, a young girl's father becomes obsessed with digging a hole beneath their house. As the years pass, he begins to resemble less and less the man she once knew... and perhaps even less of a man at all...

Nyan Cat FLY!Have you Nyan'd yet? If you haven't you will when you try the bizarre endless game that is Nyan Cat FLY! Pilot a flying oddly shaped cat through the expanse of space to catchy music, collecting yummies and avoiding veggies until... until someone stages an intervention. Go RepoIn the Podge's latest game, you control an eclectic strong-arm repo crew sent to recover valuable items from some people who really, really don't want you to. Use each character's special strengths and abilities to retrieve the most valuable items to reach your goals before time runs out!

Janie's SketchbookJanie is baffled as to why her boyfriend, Mike, told her he needed a break a month ago, and she doesn't understand why her friend Trina keeps telling her to calm down and try a new perspective. In this visual novel style story made to raise awareness for teen dating violence, you'll have to help Janie explore her memories and her life to come to some unpleasant but necessary revelations about her relationship... and herself.

Candy Box 2It's baaaaaaaaaaaaack... aniwey's smash-hit original webtoy/wonder machine gets a sequel with even more content to discover. Allow this little game to run by itself in another tab or window and you'll quickly discover that there's a lot more to it than just a rising number of candies.

Alan Probe: Amateur Surgeon 2Alan Probe is back! In the new sequel to the popular surgery simulation game that we all fell in love with back in 2008, the good people at Adult Swim have come up with something gorier, more excessive, and far more satisfying than any of us could have ever hoped for.

Escape from Happy Coin RoomExperience the memories of happy coins past in this, the 91st escape-the-room game by our dear friend, Tesshi-e. And what is a friend for if not to lock us up and force us to point and click all over the place, seeking out clues, useful objects and seven shiny gold coins in order to escape? Although you'll revel in the familiar, Tesshi-e has some sly tricks to keep you on your toes and scratching your head.

Bait and SwitchIt's tough to be a worm on a fishing hook. It's a bit easier when you have firearms, though. Bait and Switch is an underwater shooter in which a courageous red-headband-wearing worm fights for his right not to be eaten by particularly voracious fish. With lots of upgrades and types of enemies, silly graphics and solid mechanics, it's probably the most fun you can get out of simulated fishing.

NXTWPN10The results of the "10 Seconds"-themed Ludum Dare 27 72-Hour are in, and top prize goes to NXTWPN10: a quirky Unity shooter by Graebor. An explosive combination of color and creativity, if a little disorienting, but a worthy winner and a perfect candidate for expansion.

Off to Work We GoBart Bonte delivers a short, surreal adventure game about a mysterious factory... well, maybe not that mysterious given what greets you. But though you might find this little title, made for the No Future Contest, a bit too simple and more of an interactive movie than anything, it's worth the few minutes it'll take you for a chuckle.

Escape from Mr. Birdy RoomA funky beat, a big screen television, a bunch of puzzles, and several not at all creepy bird statues watching you from every single angle... it may be weird, but it's also Tesshi-e, so you know it's bound to be good. So start hunting for clues and cracking puzzles and find your way out!

dRivedRive is quite possibly the first calculus-themed game to get a review on this site, but don't go fleeing for the high country quite yet; you don't need to understand the math to play the game. At its core, dRive is a simple "catch the falling objects" game, but the unusual, calculus-based method of controlling three games at once turns dRive into an innovative, fascinating game.

I Hate CandyHow could anyone possibly hate candy? Well, if you're the snarky alien hero sent to a candy planet to rescue scientists from cuddly, cheerful toys who want nothing better than to pelt you with the stuff, it's probably pretty easy. A beautiful, silly platforming shooter with a ton of levels.

Alone on Raven RoadYou, a broken down car, a lonely road, and miles of wilderness in either direction. What's the worst that can happen? A short, speedy, and spooky-lite point-and-click adventure from Self-Defiant!

ir/rational ReduxWhen one wakes up in a featureless white room, apparently at the whims of a malevolent steam-punk computer, the first instinct is to escape. But... why? What's your argument? Can you justify your actions? Such is the question posed by ir/rational Redux, a puzzle adventure game by Tom Jubert, of Penumbra story-telling fame. Propositional logic has never felt so intense!

T2B Escape 3Room escape fans will be pleased to learn of a brand new installment available to play in the T2B Escape series. The new game, T2B Escape 3, features similar artwork, some pixel hunting and the lack of any backstory as in previous games, but that shouldn't stop all the room escape fanatics from enjoying another T2B Escape experience. Go forth, point-and-click your mouse, and escape!

Escape from Mr. Y's Room 1+You know what to expect from Escape from Mr. Y's Room 1+ if you've played Tesshi-e's past games: click around the room, solve puzzles, pick up items and use them to ultimately escape. If anyone knows how to follow a tried-and-true formula, Tesshi-e does; they've gotten a lot right in the past, and they don't change any of it. As usual, the graphics are nicely photorealistic yet never distracting, and the puzzles are logical and just challenging enough.

Vertical Drop Heroes! So going uphill is hard, but what about going downhill?... only, y'know, without the "hill" part. Descend through levels of tricky terrain in a game that combines classic platforming with good ol' fashioned "save the princess" swashbucklery. And while you're at it, save the heroes too! By rescuing different heroes, you can assume their abilities, and unlock new ones, in your quest for treasure and glory in this clever new hybrid from Nerdook.

Learn 2 Fly: The Emperor Strikes BackSummer is often a season of sequels, a season of unimaginative rehashings of proven hits, hoping that the sweaty populace will be too befuddled to notice that the movie or game they're consuming is exactly the same as its predecessor only with all the charm and surprise sucked out. That's why Learn 2 Fly is as refreshing as a blast of south pole air.

WayWordsWayWords, TwistedSimple's new word puzzle release, is one part Boggle, two parts Magic Square, and three parts playing around with alphabet blocks. It has the sort of aesthetic that wouldn't be out of place between the Crossword and the Sudoku in your daily newspaper, and gameplay that would fit right in between Scrabble and Upwords in the ol' game cabinet.

Earth TakenEarth Taken is an action platformer by SeethingSwarm that casts you as the desperate measures that the desperate needs of an alien menace require. It's a mishmash of run-and-gun and survival horror tropes, but an entertaining one, with some very cool (and toxic looking) environmental design.

Escape from the Room with No FurnitureWhen it comes to Tesshi-e, some things never change—because "he" is rearranging his room and has taken out all the furniture, he's found the perfect opportunity to revamp it for a new escape-the-room. And, of course, you can't resist the challenge. Although there is no furniture, there's no shortage of puzzles and fun, even without the fancy get ups.

House of Dead NinjasRun, leap, stab, shuriken, and bomb your way to the bottom of a massive, ancient tower filled with deadly enemies and strange environments as you seek a legendary treasure... and die a whole bunch. Megadev and AdultSwim combine to deliver a fast-pasted and challenging arcade platformer with randomly generated items and layouts that will take a lot of skill (and a lot of lives) to beat.

Regardless of its normal appearance, The Car provides a great room escape experience that's both fulfilling and free from random pixel hunting. Short and sweet, and with more installments to come.

Snowflake NightSoothing is the best descriptor of a Tomatea game, and Snowflake Night fits right into that oeuvre with its serene backgrounds, lilting music, and gentle puzzles. It will occupy your brain, eyes and hands as you banish the evil creatures back through the portal from which they came!

Heroes of SokobanA warrior, a thief, and a wizard walk into a bar. The warrior pushed his way through the door, while the thief pulled the door open, and the wizard somehow switched places with the door. (The wizard's a bit weird.) In Heroes of Sokoban by Jonah Ostroff, you've got to control all three adventurers and their quirky personalities to navigate Sokoban-style puzzles. CLOPForsooth! There's a fair and virtuous maiden beyond that hill, noble unicorn! Too bad unicorns aren't so good with hills. Or rocks. Or galloping. Or... maybe you should just stand still. Foddy.net returns for another simple, silly and tricky arcade reflex game sure to bring out the pretty pretty pony in you.

What's the weekly feature with old games of quality? T-H-E J-i-G V-A-U-L-T! And welcome Vaultkateers, to Anything-Can-Happen day at the clubhouse, where we're featuring some wonderful platform, adventure, and strategy games this week.

A Super Mario SummaryExplore the Tiny Worlds of the Mushroom Kingdom in Johan Peitz's Ludum Dare entry, A Super Mario Summary. A distillation of the original 32 levels of Super Mario Brothers in single screen puzzle-platform format, A Super Mario Summary is a loving tribute, but more than that, a great game.

A Dark RoomA Dark Room will run quietly by itself in a tab in your browser with only minimal interaction at first. There's just you, the dark, dwindling wood, and a fire to stoke. But what might that light attract? What could you build if you dared venture the cold quiet outdoors? With gameplay that will remind you of Candy Box! but a decidedly creepier, more intriguing bent to go with simulation and adventure, A Dark Room is well worth checking out.

Suveh Nux"Suveh Nux" is a short, puzzle-oriented piece of interactive fiction by David Fisher, with a neat premise: the player is trapped in a vault (that's not the neat part) and can escape only if he learns the magical language that controls his environment. Plenty of interactive fiction games involve puzzles about magic words. "Suveh Nux" takes this a step further with a whole magical grammar to learn, including verbs, nouns, and modifying phrases.

CatachresisJeff has a job just like anyone else, but unlike you or me, his job includes rolling into the paranormal and sorting things out. In this short interactive tale, he finds himself called in with the rest of his team late one night to fix a problem... only it might not be fixable. A charming mix of freaky and funny, Catachresis is begging for a bigger, bolder sequel.

BustermcthundersticksBustermcthundersticks isn't nonsense, it's the new point-and-click puzzle game from Ninjadoodle! The new house you have is practically lousy with ninjas, 33 to be exact, and some serious weird and obscure devices, secret doors, and more to boot! Can you track all of them down?

Pause AheadNormally when you pause a game, everything stops, but in this hard as nails platformer, your momentum is preserved, allowing you to soar through hazards and over great distances... which does NOT make it any easier. A beautiful looking, beautiful sounding game that will pound the snot out of you at any given opportunity, and for some people, that's exactly what they're looking for.

Following MeSisters Kat and Aria are lost alone in the woods at night when they accidentally cross paths with two men who don't have the friendliest intentions. How far will they go to save themselves in this Choose Your Own Adventure style text-based tale?

Avant-GardeCurrently in playable alpha version, Avant-Garde is a narrative simulation/RPG where you play a burgeoning artist in the Paris art scene of the 19th century. Create your own artwork to sell or display in Le Salon, rub elbows with famed artists such as Manet, Monet, Picasso and Dali, and learn more about art history as you participate in impressionism, surrealism or even create your own art movements. While still incomplete, there is already much here to satisfy both the gamer and artist in you.

GilWhen evil robots strike and steal all your lighthouse bulbs, it's GIL to the rescue!... easily killed Gil, with no defenses and a soft, pink body, but GIL nonetheless! This simple looking but tricky platformer from Animals Play Games is guaranteed to test your skills as you run, leap, and flying-machine your way through increasingly difficult worlds filled with spikes, robots, switches, lava, missiles, mines, and much more.

FraggerGrenades and baddies and physics, oh my! Adjust your angle to lob grenades from a limited supply at waiting targets to get the best scores and achievements you can across thirty levels and three difficulty settings. Why do they look so happy about getting blown up? Who knows! Just remember; pull the pin, then throw it. It's okay. We get that messed up all the time, too. You should see our offices.

Comic Book CodyWhen Cody's comic book collection is stolen by a gang of thieves, he sets out to get it back and discovers that gathering them unlocks super powers of his own! Despite some unimaginative level design and repetition, this platformer offers a great premise and a ton of personality that make it an easy choice for younger gamers-in-training!

Leaf Me Alone (Expanded)A expansion of both the gameplay and quirky game-world of the Ludum Dare original, Leaf Me Alone (Expanded) by Mark Foster and David Fenn, has players explore all corners and all seasons of a pixelated forest. Though like most Metroidvanias, a little more direction would be helpful, all in all, this is the refined half-sequel, half-remake those charmed by the original have been waiting for.

Dopaminium: The Heal JourneyThe human mind is a very complex thing. A very complex, bizarre, fragile thing which sometimes malfunctions and starts creating all manner of horrors. What horrors, you ask? Step right into Dopaminium: The Heal Journey and see for yourself. In this surreal point-and-click experience, you'll go through different departments of the mind, try to mend an ailing psyche and get utterly creeped out.

Castaway 2: Isle of the TitansFans of the original Castaway will find much they like from the first game, plus many improvements. Castaway 2 isn't the deepest RPG around, but it's perfect for casual fans of the genre. The Isle of the Titans has a lot to do and a lot to see, and will keep casual RPG players well occupied. Just don't let it suck you in too much, or you might find that you suffer some light amnesia of your own.

Grow RPGGrow RPG takes the classic formula that made the original so compelling to play, and adds additional RPG-like elements, such as enemy combat, a shop to buy health and weapons, and even a dungeon with hidden treasure. Voted Best of 2005 by the visitors of Jayisgames.

Candy Box!aniwey's Candy Box may seem simple, but this unexpectedly delightful webtoy packs way more surprises than you'd ever think. All you seem to have is a simple counter of candies that slowly accumulates with each second, and the option to gobble them all up, or throw them on the ground. But give it some time, and Candy Box! may just be one of the weirdest, most wonderful webtoys you've ever encountered.

Sky QuestFly through the air blasting critters and defeating evil overlords in Sky Quest, a sidescrolling shooter from Berzerk Studio. Gorgeously designed enemies, intriguing gameplay that manages to stay just one step of addiction ahead of feeling repetitive, a somewhat overwhelming array of gameplay options, an epic score, and a gratuitous amount of testosterone, makes up for a front-loaded learning curve and a plot that feels like an indecisive parody.

Wubbzy's Wow! Wow! Ring CatchSome of the reviews on this site are tagged as "kidsafe", but a few months ago, when my 2-and-a-half-year-old was begging me to find him some fun games to play on the Internet, I couldn't really find very much at jayisgames that he would enjoy. So, I had to scour kids' sites to find stuff, and here is what I discovered...
