JayBowja the Ninja on Factory IslandArmed with nothing but a bow and some arrows, Bowja the Ninja is on a covert mission to Factory Island to take out the menace to humanity that is the Gi8000 (otherwise known as Randy the Robot). Help Bowja defeat the factory workers and save humanity once and for all, before it's too late.

Created by Robin Vencel, Bowja the Ninja on Factory Island is a charming point-and-click adventure in which you must find the appropriate spots to click to make little Bowja advance, solving puzzles and besting foes along the way. The animations, little voices, and scenery make this game a pleasure to play through. And when you complete the game, you're even treated to some game art downloads as a reward.

Cheers to Justin, Robin, and Bob for sending this one in! =)

I'm stuck on the screen with the robot.

They should really lengthen the intervals between shooting so you actually have time to pixel hunt.

Awwww that was so short.

Reminds me of a few great games, namely Samorost and the all-time classic, Another World. The art direction is great and the animation is superb.

The heli and the last robot was beatable with a click though. Was expecting something like Shadow of the Colossus type puzzle where you need to do one thing after another.

Anyhow, this game made me long for more. Cheers to Robin for a great game!

Looks good, plays well, but it was just a bit short.

I have no idea where to get that R5 code. I had to look in the walkthough for that one.

Also, I cheated by...

using TAB :) So I knew where I could click on. I would suggest to disable it in Flash, but for people like me, who have no patience to click everywhere, it's a nice feature.

Simple walkthrough:

I know there is already a walkthrough but I've always wanted to post my own. ;)
This is a walkthrough for all the people who are too lazy to hit the tab key or figure it out for themselves; like me. Enjoy!
P.S.-This is my first walkthrough so if there is any suggestions for my next walkthroughs (if I do any) let me know! Thanks.

Stage 1-

Click:
1. Antenna on the roof
2. Crate
3. Crate
4. Roof
5. Hornet's nest
6. Treasure chest
7. First tree limb
8. Second tree limb

Stage 2-

Click:
1. Light
2. Evil ninja
3. Gear next to Bowja
4. Machine with the colors till the machine's arrow is pointing at yellow
5. Little box next to Bowja

Stage 3-

Click:
1. Triangle that is next to the circular thing
2. Circular thing (rock? wood?)
3. Computer box (last box on the edge of the platform)
4. Lever till it is at R-5 (might change; look at the very top next to the big gear... Number is in roman numerals. very tricky...)
5. Sky box

Stage 4-

Click:
1. Rear propeller

Stage 5-

Click:
1. Root at top of underwater cliff
2. Back of helicopter

Stage 6-

Click:
1. Doors to click will be written on the back in… roman numerals again. Yeah!!
(I got 3, 1, 4, 9, 7, 5)

Stage 7-

Click:
1. Black electrical box above Bowja
2. Lever by black electrical box
3. Helicopter

Jay - it is refreshing to have you write a couple of reviews.

I've been visiting your site almost everyday for the past three years. I miss the short and sweet review format.

Everyone else who posts reviews on the front page seems to think that long and winding is the way to catch someone's attention. It is not.

I especially hate the super long and gushy pay-to-download game reviews. I know you guys get a cut, and I think that is great, however, it junks up the front page when one game review is two screens long. Also, I am slightly nauseated by the overly enthusiastic reviews of cookie cutter pay-to-play games.

Maybe you could make it so only a couple of paragraphs show up on the front page, and the rest is revealed on the detail page?

So again, thanks for giving us these two old-school style reviews. It was nice.

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

seattlicious, I agree with you. Some downright attrocious games (like Escape from Museum or Forgoten Riddles for instance) get glowing reviews you start to question the objectivity of the entire thing - this review is a great example of why "Jay is games" became one of my favorite blogs. Short, sweet and to the point, no beefing up, no blown-up enthusiasm for yet another horrible hidden object game (but with a GREAT and ORIGINAL twist!).

As for the Bowja the Ninja game, I love it, it's gorgeous but a bit on the easy side - which ain't a bad thing exactly, but it just looks TOO good to be that short and simple. I hope Bowja returns in a beat-em-up side-scroller or something, because in this one he just did a lot of Robin Hood stuff, but nothing really..umm.. ninjaicky.

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

I like that Bowja sets out on a mission to destroy a humongous robot, armed with nothing a bow and arrows. Arrows that are apparently made of harmless plastic, judging by the way they doink off the enemy ninjas' heads.

Wait, was his mission to destroy the robot? I guess that would make the plot make sense. I was having trouble with it because it seemed like he infiltrated the Island... then... escaped from the Island. I was never really sure why he went there in the first place.

seattlicious, I agree that it might be nice to have only the first couple of paragraphs appear on the front page, and then have the rest appear on the detail page.

I think that many readers enjoy the longer reviews. I like to read longer articles myself, and that's reflected in my own contributions to the site. Developers (of both free and commercial games) also seem to really appreciate it when we spend extra time and page space on their work.

But I agree that the longer reviews can make the front page hard to skim, especially when you haven't checked the site in a few days. It's up to Jay, of course, but maybe in the future there can be some compromise.

What an awesome game. I didn't even need the walkthrough! It took me a minute at the beginning to realize that you can't actually kill the little ninjas with your arrows (which I actually like- yay strategy!). I find that a lot of the questions people have here are actually hinted at (some pretty explicitly) in the game: both the numbered doors and the R5 code are written on the screen.

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

I am mixed about this game. I think the art and type of puzzle are great. I enjoyed that. However, its all slow and plodding. I feel like I am trapped in molasses. In the same vein the lever code drags you down a bit. If you had separate levers for the letters and the numbers, it would be a more pleasant experience.

So, the concept was good, and I'd like to see more, but the implementation has some issues. Tempo in not just for music.

Score: 0 (0 votes) Vote up Vote down Report this comment Reply

This game is big on charm but small on length, and thus requires a stream-of-consciousness hint-through. (To make up for the concise review, this thing shall be long and humorous instead.)

Decrypting Message: Mission Briefing

Bowja! We have received threats of the new robot, Gi8000, or "Randy"! Your the only ninja available! Wear the red uniform, as befitting a ninja of the Conspicuous Colour Clan, and go to Factory Island! We just armed you with cheap dollar-store arrows you must do the rest yourself! You must destroy "Randy" at all cost! Humorously Translated Mission Control out!

Decrypting Message: Field Report 01

I was spotted as soon as I paddled to Factory Island's Shore. Though my arrows cannot pierce the guard's thin layer of clothing, they could, perhaps, disable dial-up internet cables. Depriving their access to a walkthrough of this game, my infiltration is assured.
I now know two things: even the most battle-hardened mercenary can be afraid of animals such as snakes and bees, and that I can't seem to be able to jump to a rooftop from a standstill. I must be thankful for my little friend, the ubiquitous wooden box.

Decrypting Message: Field Report 02

A wise man once said, "A man cannot hit a lever with an arrow; other nearby objects, maybe, but not an arrow." I always wondered what he meant, until today. Fortunately, I found I can hit things that are not levers, such as heads and other arrows, quite easily.

Decrypting Massage: Field Report 03

While the other ninja of the Conspicuous Colour Clan were off fighting pirates and cowboys, I instead fought vikings and Roman gladiators. Did you know that Romans used a V to represent 5? Also, I just cannot seem to get that giant wheel to- Oh, how simple: I just was not looking around the bottom area of that wheel.

Message Get! Field Report 04

Though I can dodge bullets with liberal use of slow-motion, I still say I wasn't paid to shoot down helicopters with arrows. I must remember my sensei's words during that famous battle with the giant enemy crabs: "You attack its weak point for massive damage!"

The Message: You has it. Field Report 05

If anyone reads this: I hate water levels. I cannot attack, and there's usually a shark or an eel or something that's faster than I am. I must find some sort of lever or crowbar with which to pry this wreckage away from the way forward, and quickly!

We Now Return to Field Report 06

I barely escaped with my life after the fight with the giant ad. I must lean against a wall to catch my breath, and ponder the meaning of all the doors with numbers on them. I am reminded of the words of my greatest rival, the Roman gladiator Canis Fervens, "Give me a solid wall any day."

Decrypting The Message: Final Report

Mission Accomplished! For all its size and weaponry, the Gi8000 was felled by the very dial-up cable that was my first target upon my arrival to Factory Island! Now, there must be some way to open that skylight and escape... As much as I dislike helicopters, it is the only option. Now I must leave to celebrate before anyone comes in to repair the Gi8000 I so easily short-circuited!
Congraturation! You're Winner!

Like Ethno, I'm a bit mixed on the game. It's really cute. I love the expressions. And it was fun to play -not very hard. And I personally like the short games, so it was a good length for me. But it was very slow. I didn't like having to wait for the action every time I clicked. I didn't like not being able to do anything while the bad guys were shooting. Or that they kept shooting. And I agree that the lever on the console was ridiculously slow. How many times do you have to pull that thing?
