Best of 2013 Nominations...

Billy Makin KidBilly is the last man left on the earth after super-evolved apes have taken over, and to defend himself against the hordes of flying monkeys and angry gorillas, he has to spawn children and turn them into defense units, apparently without the aid of a single female. Makes no sense? It doesn't matter, because the game features some great twists on the tower defense genre.

Bubble Tanks Tower Defense 2Hero Interactive's popular bubbly and strategic tower defense series gets even bigger and badder in this latest installment. Engage in classic defense action with tons of tower types and upgrades, or go free-form and build your own pathway to force your foes past a deadly gauntlet. With more enemies, more towers, and upgrades that range from boosts to entirely new modes of play on top of a whopping 300 achievements, this is one game you won't put down for a while.

Enigmata: Stellar WarThe action-packed Enigmata series gets reincarnated as a real-time tower defense game. Protect the Core from wave after wave of enemies and huge bosses by upgrading and placing ships with a variety of explosive abilities, including upgrades that persist across levels. It's a gorgeous, though somewhat chaotic, spin on the genre that sci-fi fans will want to check out.

Game Over GopherThe gophers are coming, the gophers are coming! In this vibrant, kid-friendly tower defense game designed to dust off the ol' graphing skills, you defend a carrot from waves of hungry gophers, who need to be fed until they burst into rainbows. Plot points on the graph to reveal your enemy's marching path, dig up valuable rubies, and place upgradeable towers to keep your carrot safe from the waves of starving critters.

Hands of War Tower DefenseAxis Games brings their Hands of War RPG series into the tower defense genre. As a simple, lowly page, you have been given the Heartstone, a most powerful relic, and tasked to reunite the land of Tempor. Hands of War Tower Defense offers a neat storyline to go along with some great tower defense gameplay. The underlying game is pretty easy, but with all the handicaps available to add to a level, you can essentially adjust your difficulty. It's a fun experience and one in which you'll likely drain a couple of evenings away!

IncursionThe forces of darkness are at it again in this tower defense game. They'll send wave after wave against you as you use your soldiers, mages, and archers to hold them back. Place towers in the designated spots to start training your troops. Upgrade your units in multiple ways to find the best strategy for each level. Evil won't know what hit it.

Keeper of the GroveTower defense fans, get your fix and ease your withdrawal symptoms with booblyc's Keeper of the Grove. In this lovely addition to the genre you play the defender of a beautiful garden kingdom, recently invaded by dark rogues, mean scaly louts, and ugly abominations. And they all want your gems! Keeper of the Grove features a long list of towers and upgrades to go along with it's lovely backdrops, but don't be fooled by it's Sunday afternoon Candyland exterior...underneath all that cute lies a monster of a tower defense game that will keep hardcore fans up at night, and more casual players entertained for the day.

Kill the Heroes"Take down the good guys!" That's what the title tells you in Nerdook's tower defense venture, Kill the Heroes. Place your tower units along or around the path as the little soldiers cycle around the level, taking their shots at you when they can. Earn cash for purchasing units and upgrades (why do heroes carry so much on them anyway?). It's not everyday you get to be a sinister, big-brained alien, so take what satisfaction you can from it before you take over the world and life becomes too easy.

Monsters TDMonsters never seem to have altruistic agendas. Whether it's scarfing down brains, scaring children, or mucking about with your spreadsheets so you think you did your taxes wrong (the horror!), if a monster comes near, you should probably ready your defenses. Such is the case with Monster TD, a well-illustrated side view tower defense game from Booblyc, the same team behind the physics puzzle game Steampunk.

PaladogIn FazeCat's everything-but-the-kitchen sink defense game, Paladog, Critterland has been invaded by zombies, witches, skeletons, and just about every evil little thing you can imagine, including television sets! It's up to you to fight them off, but are you dog enough to take them on over a whopping 120 levels, including special mini-games. Paladog is a big, cuddly, newspaper-fetching machine, that brings back the Sunday paper, but slobbers all over the funnies... and you love it anyway.

Pokémon Tower DefenseGotta catch defend 'em all? Sam and Dan have spent a year taking their much loved Pokémon fan game to impressive heights, and the result is a surprisingly impressive and complex tower defense game packed with all the strategy, challenge, colour, and even all 151 original Pokémon to catch. It's silly, addictive, and still tons of fun for fans and newcomers alike.

SoulcasterMagical Time Bean delivers a tower-defense game with a twist, as you play a wizard with the ability to summon the souls of warriors while searching a massive, ancient ruin full of danger. Summon and recall heroes to defend you while making use of their strengths and weaknesses against increasingly more powerful and varied monsters, visiting the Merchant to purchase upgrades. Challenging and surprisingly strategic, this is a clever, lengthy game that can keep you occupied for quite some time.

SymbiosisIt's important to realize that aliens doesn't necessarily equal a creature that will be faced down by Will Smith. It's also important to know that Will Smith may not be the one who can fight off an alien invasion, even if he is looking sharp in a nice suit. In Symbiosis this possibility has come real and the defenders of the world are none other than plants that need you to properly position them so they can attack crystal aliens bent on the destruction of our world. Peppered with plenty of upgrades to take advantage of those aliens will be poorly prepared for the fight the plants are going to bring.

The Last ShelterYou'll have to battle it out against spiders, scorpions, beetles, and all manner of creepy crawlies if you are going to survive this action-packed new tower defense game by Tofee Games. It pushes the limits of both casual and flash gaming in creating a stylish and professionally made free game that will have you playing and strategizing for days beyond that initial lunch break session.

Zombie at the GatesThe only sure way to survive a zombie invasion is to avoid it! In Zombie at the Gates you play a king who must defend the castle, giving you time to construct it into a flying castle to get away from the zombie masses. Upgrade yourself and your weapons to beat back the zombies and collect the resources you need to fly your castle to safety. So long zombies!
