Although it's tempting to want to have a varied army, I've had more success by focusing on a single type, the sword-wielding Viking. Upgrade it each time you get a chance, along with your long range attacks.

I was trying to have a varied army, but then I settled on the easier-to-manage and thus far way more effective strategy of "If I can't beat it with a horde of Chieftains, get better Chieftains."

any ideas on the ideal combination to beat level 14-30? all my bearded men are maxed out, and i can't seem to find the right mix to kick ice giant butt. :P

you know what's weird? i totally beat the level 50 guy, and level 14-30 still escapes me. grr.

Apparently when you take too much in taxes, an island will level down until it's level 1, where it'll just stop producing gold. You can't replay the level and re-conquor the island.

Since the boss doesn't give gold or add to the villagers' happiness levels, you have to avoid completing a normal island if you want to max out everything. Of course, the boss is easier than the last normal island, so getting into an unwinnable state isn't really an issue.

I must say this game i quite addicting. Even though some grinding is required it is still enjoyable. I just wish there was a fast forward button while fighting enemies like a 2x speed or 4x maybe.
