What a great, great metroiddy game. Although it's unfortunate about the pop-up issue - it was also blocked for me and if I hadn't read the comments I wouldn't even know there was a Hall of Fame (146th, yay!).
I never actually played any of the "Robot wants..." games, don't know how I missed them. Guess I have some catching up to do. :)
I can't believe I actually completed it (with help). The "Robot Wants" series has always been frustrating for me, so I wasn't sure I would. And anyone frustrated with
the spike field should try double tapping keys for movement, especially up for stabilization. You'll move slow but you'll get where you need with your shield.
posting remotely here but can I just say, like Rob Allen's before, what a generous present it is to find such utter joyful quality modestly perched on the top the page.
I've loved all of the 'Robot wants...' games and to have an extra chapter is just ace.
Thanks mr Hommel, I hope you get all of your Christmas presents this year, you deserve them!
^^; I thought that even if you disabled the crushers, you had to do it when they weren't touching the ground, or it'd make the robot explode. So that's probably why it took me slightly longer than necessary to finish. Still, #167 isn't too bad, considering I was only able to finish the first Robot Wants in the series. This was fun and that map really helped. :D
Woot! Finished number 13^2! Lucky number time yay!
So, I beat this latest banner game and wasn't directed to the Hall of Fame
but have since read and found out there may be an unmarked JIG piece?
but I was so intrigued by this game that I wanted to play the first banner game, which I have now done and also completed but I can't figure out how to play the newest one again. I have refreshed, deleted my progress on the old game, deleted computer memory, but I still can't pull up the new game, even by clicking on it; it only brings up the old one now.
Can anyone help???
[Hi brig! Visit our Themes page for switching themes (and banner games). It's easy to find, it should be the only sub-menu selection off "Home" in the site's main navigation menu. :) -Jay]
Help please. I have AL GEPA and I can't get the first A in Gameplay. I shot the first switch, but I can't reach the second one. I can jump up to the level of the switch, but not onto the platform. Do I need another letter first, or am I missing something?
WOOHOO! Glad some people liked the map. Hooray! My first map ever. :)
You need to close the first switch behind you and stand in the gap between them, ricochet your shot off the sides and it'll trigger the second switch. Leap over to the platform and shoot the second switch again so you have some ground to walk on. Then stand below and shoot through the grate to trigger the third switch. I found that shot through the grate exceptionally difficult. It took me over 10 minutes of trying, shifting positions and angles before I got it and a whole lot of perseverance and frustration.
I am no good at platform games. I'm stuck on this:
After getting air jump, I double jumped past a field of pink spikes, then up to an area where 3 pistons smash down on you.
When I try to jump up the curb, past the second piston, I jump too high. How can I make just a tiny jump up that edge instead of flying up into the piston to be smashed?
I did the same thing you did. You're not actually ready to do that bit with the three pistons yet. You need the bomb to be able to go by them and there's a few other power ups you need for the section afterwards.
Thank you for the hint. And thank you for the map. It helped me find where this letter actually is.
I'm past the switches now, but you're right, that shot through the grate is hard. Not only is it impossible to get your shot to actually make the turn, it dies before it reaches the end.
Thanks Jay! I didn't even know there was a theme option!
Ok, I seriously cannot figure out where to go after I get the air jump. I can't go through the three smashers, or over the spikes, or up the tall tunnels. The written walkthrough is really confusing!
This was a lot of fun, and i finally managed to light up all characters. Reminded me a lot of Knytt (double jump rules). Maybe next time in Fullscreen?
nice job, phi
@Topi The Walkthrough for what you do after getting the double jump is right. The three smashers is for a lot later. I know I went off to do them as well and spent ages trying to get by them. I just kept wanting to get by them. I think after every power up I got I went by to see if I could do it.
After you get the ability to double jump the next step is to get the E. (Have a look at the map if you're not sure you're going the right way). There's a switch just to the right of the A you picked up. Head over and stand on the little platform underneath and shoot upwards so you hit the switch. Then head through the little tunnel (there's a jig piece underneath). From there you work your way up and to the left. There's a shot you have to bounce against a wall and over some pink spikes to hit a switch just before the E (which you'll see on my map). The jump is tough, since there's spikes both above and below. You step off the platform and then leap before you hit the bottom spikes and if you time it right you'll miss the top ones. Then you pick up the E.
I am also struggling with the "game is running in another window" error. I only have one window open. Not sure how to fix it and I REALLY want to play this game.
[The game can be open in one browser window only. It'll even communicate across browsers, so you can't have it open in, say, Firefox and try to play it in Safari as well. If you don't have another browser open then I'm not really sure how that is even possible. It must be an old Flash thread still running on your computer that's communicating with the game as if it's open in a browser window. Here's what I would suggest in order of severity: 1) Try closing down all your browsers and wait one minute, then try again. 2) As a last resort you'll have to restart your computer. Please let me know what your OS/version, Browser/version, and Flash player version you're using. I'd like to try to reproduce that issue. -Jay]
Whoo I finally finally finished! It took my two days but I made it!
Now I will NEVER play a platformer again. ^^
Okay, I was better at it the next day :)
Wow, I'm only #203?
Hmm. Can someone post what the upgrades do? I was distracted and missed one of them, and now I'm not sure what to do (though I'm sure it will be obvious once I know what I got). I'm trying to do this without looking at the walkthroughs.
Katherine- just hover over the letters you've alread found, in the logo, and the game will show you what power it represents and how to use it.
EEk, finally go the last JIGman, but Firefox BLOCKED the popup! What does it say?
I can't load the game. When I use the link, the only thing that loads is the map.
I'm using IE 9 and have the updated Flash version.
There is something wrong with the link?
[Nothing wrong with the link, the game is in the banner of the site. The area along the top of the page with our logo "Casual Gameplay @jayisgames.com" in it. I can't test in IE9 as I only have IE8, but it works fine with Flash Player 10.1+ (it won't load unless you have at least 10.1 installed). Make sure you don't have the game already running in another browser window. -Jay]
You don't need to see the popup (and you get added to the hall of fame even if it doesn't pop) - it's just the Hall of Fame page. You can right-click on the banner to find a link straight to it as well. Then find yourself at the bottom of it!
Ugh. It's impossible to get Jigman #4. You need your shield and to get through the obstacles before it, you have to lose your shield.
Oh, nevermind. I found a way to keep the shield, and now I have all the Jigmen, and Casual Gameplay! I'm in position 218 in the Hall of Fame! YAY!
For those of you stuck doing the grate shot:
Go to the right of the grate and angle it in. You should be about on the third block over the spikes to get it in properly. If you try to shoot it at a steeper angle, it'll burn out in the tunnel.
Either I missed the other games, or passed over them. In any case, after playing this and loving it, I went back to play the other ones.
These are great games, I really enjoy the concept. Although I'd love to see more, I'd like them to keep innovating.
I really liked this one specifically, for a number of reasons. I really enjoyed the relatively simple leveling of abilities. In some of the others I felt unsure as to how much I had left to go for certain attributes. Plus, this one had some great abilities.
Finally, I sort of like that the entire game is in just a banner. I don't know why, but I like this a lot.
Thanks, nfields. I think Mike did an awesome job with it, too.
If you like the game, please help spread word about it. So far there are fewer than 250 in the Hall of Fame indicating that only our regular visitors are aware of it.
We really haven't seen any major jump in traffic for it, so we need everyone's help in getting word out about it.
Took a while, but I finished it, including all the Jigman bits. All I can say is that if anyone ever makes me do that underwater spike part in the lower right corner of the map I'm going to chase them through a darkened alley with a dull pair of scissors. Other than that, quite fun.
What is this?...
Robot wants "Y"?
Also, nothing happens after I have accomplished said goal.
Does puppy need Y?
Does Y keep ice cream cold?
Will Y make kitty come back and play nice, or raise fishy back from the dead?
Does Y defeat the overlord as referenced in the first game?
What can you do with Y (aside from spell letters)?
I wonder what our next banner game will be.
Maybe we could commission Neutral or 58 Works or someone to design a JIG banner escape game. I've already figured most of it out in my head: the right half of the banner would display the room proper, while the left half would be devoted to the HUD (inventory and so forth). The Casual Gameplay logo itself would be the inventory; items picked up would be stored in specific letters, and maybe the JIGman would hold a really important item like the final key. Once an item had served its purpose and disappeared from the inventory, that letter would light up.
I'd draw up a concept sketch, but I don't know how I'd share it since the comments don't allow link dropping.
Hmm, the right bit of the banner is cut off in my browser (maybe 10-20 pixels worth? all I can see is "ba" instead of "banner by hamamu"). I'm using Firefox, Flash Player 10, and have turned off Adblock...
Whoops! figured it out... my browser view was zoomed out a bit.
Succeeded passing through the spike sea twice so far but failed to jump over to the left safely after the swim, argh! So wish there is a save point there before the jump! It's not "causal gameplay"...
I am struggling to drop bombs while jumping over the teleporters. I can only seem to set them when i'm on the ground.
any hints about how I should do it?
I gots a problem...
I'm at the part where there's a crusher, a corridor of spikes that's at a lower elevation, a save point, a sea with a bunch of spikes, a square of blocks, a target and a P blocked by said blocks, and a row of colored blocks. I've tried everything possible and I can't eliminate this blocks, hit the target, or get past the spikes again. How do I get out of here?
Oh crap, NOW I see the grates. Never mind. ^_^
Thank you so much for that, else I'd be banging my head against the screen.
Now I have no idea what to do next, but I'll go back and look around. ;)
I'm stuck on the spike corridor before getting the P.
I CAN NOT seem to time my jump/glide right. keep either banging my head on the top spikes and having my glide fizzle out too soon and hit the bottom ones.
Any pointers on approach or take off point?
Got it! The shield made it all possible!
Well that was all kinds of fun! Frankly I thought it was even better than most of the Robot Wants ____ games due to being more puzzle-oriented and having more unique and imaginative powerups. :D
It's weird how you have to get seven JIGman Bits... I got six and almost stopped, thinking that I was done!
I finished the game yesterday afternoon --with all the JIG bits-- but did not make hall of fame :(
Nevermind (power of posting) I guess there was one more jigbit... got it now. That wasn't made obvious by the fact the jigman was fully formed... just a tad misleading ;)
I love, love, loved this game. Just fantastic. My only complaints were tiny things...probably the biggest being that sometimes my little guy would bounce off the metal ceiling instead of sticking to it. Lost my shield to this about a thousand times getting power-up 13. Eventually I figured out the timing to keep it from happening, but I shouldn't have had to--it's really frustrating watching your little guy clearly hit the metal plate and then just bounce off of it into the spikes.
Man, though, what a great game. Heck, the fact that I put up with that over and over again is proof of how much I loved it.
I WAS a little disappointed at the lack of an ending after collecting all the JIG pieces. Would have loved some kind of closure beyond the hall of fame.
Just a thought for the Hall of Fame if you do a game like this in the future--it's kind of lame that your rank doesn't really pertain at all to how well you did in the game just when you happened to play it. For this game I think I would have ranked it based on speed of completion.
Man, I have to check out the rest of the entries in the series.
Great game, The weird thing is...
once I got all the letters and all but one JIG mans prior, The sparkles on the words some how "guided" me to the last one...
I was just wondering if there is anyway to turn off the sound. I am hearing things shooting in the background whenever I am playing other games.
[Just click the little speaker icon in the top left corner of the banner to turn off the sound. Alternatively, you can switch to a different theme. -Jay]
Ah. I was about to post that same problem. The game seems to mute itself when I remove focus from it, but I can still hear the fireworks when first loading the page, even if I don't click on the banner in the first place.
Muting should fix that though.
Good game. Don't like the tiny banner format though. Too hard to see where I'm going.
Took about 30 minutes. No walkthrough, I didn't know one existed until I looked here afterwards.
actually blalien, i was the first post release, if you had hovered over the home button and checked themes you could have played it as well
i don't know why, but it seems that the only one to find it during the soft launch was me(then again, i was tipped off by jay that a new banner game would be up(hurray for JIG chat!))
man I so want to replay this game again, but there doesn't seem to be a new game button
[Press [A] while holding [B] to reset your progress and start again. Just hover the mouse over the "jayisgames" link to view this instruction. -Jay]
Hi im having trouble playing the game. i click the link and it takes me to the large map and i can go no farther then that. can anyone help me?
What a great game! Though there were a few tricky parts and times where I felt there was no where else to go, I never was so discouraged as to give up all together. That said, it took me a little long to be considered 'casual' gameplay. I am a big fan of puzzle-platformers and it's games like this that keep me coming back to JiG.
Joe Gona, I think the sparkles are just part of having completed Casual Gameplay and your last piece happened to be in that direction. But it helped me find that last one too, so thanks.
Just finished! Yay for sparkles. Great little (literally) game, with a great diversity of skills and tasks.
My minor quibble is that while the game saves your progress in collecting letters and bits, it does not leave open the paths you clear. Often this is no big deal, but when you have struggled through the frustrating areas and then cleared a path, it would be nice not to have to do it again. (Such as the direct path to the
L area, or when working on the right bottom corner.)
This is one of the best "Robot Wants" games ever! One thing that might make this game even better is if you could press "F" on your keyboard, or the banner to nake it fullscreen. I still thought of it bigger (because of the GREAT gameplay), and I like the Hall of Fame. (373, yay!) If they made one even better, in a big screen, and, as always, achievements, that would be just the GREATEST! (And maybe some game modifiers :) It would be the greatest game I would ever plaY!) Keep uo the FANTASTIC (sorry for yelling) work!
The last A is a pain, i tried it a hundred times, i want to stop but if i stop i played this for nothing :( (i don't like to play without seeing the end!!)
Sometime the game freeze and keep playing the last key i pressed and auto-jump, which is really awful. But nice game overall.
I would never have guessed it could be played.
I got all the parts but a "hall of fame" hasn't appeared. What's going on? Do I have to restart? Great game by the way. I think the creator should make this game full size. It would make it so much easier.
[But we don't want it easy. :p Anyways, there is most likely one more part you have to find. There's 7 total, one more than what fills up the JIGman. Hover your mouse over the JIGman and it will tell you how many you have left to get. -Jay]
This game would be awesome if not for the fact that you can only play it once...right?
[Incorrect! You can play it as many times as you like. Just press [A] while holding [B] to reset the game. If you hover the cursor over "@jayisgames.com" the game reminds you how to do this. :) -Jay]
I am almost done but can't seem to figure this ability to "make the computer happy". Any clues?
Say no more, say no more, I got it! Haven't enjoyed a game like this since the times of ZX Spectrum's Manic Miner! Wow!
Hmmm... it seems you can't play it more than once... or is it that you can somehow restart it? If anyone knows please comment
[Hold [A] while pressing [B] to reset the game. Hover the mouse over the "@jayisgames" in the banner logo for a reminder of how to do that. -Jay]
Is there a way to restart the game without deleting all my cookies?
To Reset the game (and start over):
Hold [A] while pressing [B]
I honest to God cannot get the C! Will someone provide a clearer explanation than in the Walk through.
I cant plant the bombs close enough to the red blocks to explode them because of the force field.
I really cannot figure out how to make the computer happy. Am I missing something obvious?
I cannot get the A where you have to fire at the switch through the grate.. Is there a trick to this shot or something?? I just can't do it!!
AHHHHHHHH it wont open it got stuck on the Rob Allen Banner Game!
yay!!!! i fixed it and can play!!!! no WORRIES
Absolutely LOVED this game. One of the best puzzle platformers I've played.
I spent a very long time staring at the banner, assuming it was just a clever image, thinking "that looks like a game I'd like to play!"
Then one day I clicked it, on a whim. The rest is history.
I have: CASU L / GAMEPLA and two JIGman bits.
I cannot for the life of me get the final A.
As for the Y, it's no problem getting up there, but how the ?!?! do I "make the computer happy"?
I actually now have 6 of the JIGman bits (only need the one down by the U - but can't make the computer happy).
I still have CASU_L and GAMEPLA_. I can reach the Y easily enough (but can't make the computer happy).
BUT I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME FIGURE OUT HOW THE @#$% TO GET TO THE #$% @#$% @#$%@#$ LETTER A!!!!!
(in Balki Bartokomous' accent)
We do the dance of joy! di-didi-di-di, di-didi-di-di, di-didi-di-di, hey-hey-HEY-hey-HEY!
Beat this game not once but TWICE.
Getting the final A:
YOU DO NOT need EMP bombs to pass the three crushers. THAT was my mistake - it's just timing. Once at the teleport pad, drop a crawly bomb to shut off the first gunner then a second one to blow up the red block. Once that wall is cleared, make your way back to the teleport pad (you must still have the shield this time), disable the first gunner as before, sacrifice the shield getting through the second gunner, then once you're at the wall, the rest is easy.
Getting JIGman 4:
If you got the M in the same browser session, there is an easier way to get to the pile of stones - keep in mind the blocks that were in the way are now gone (see the map).
how do i break purple blocks???
Hello, I know it's half a year old now but is the Hall of Fame still working?
I think I got all of the letters and all the JIG parts (It says so when I mouse over the big golden JIG)
[Yes, the Hall of Fame is still working. -Jay]
How do you play this game? All I see is a map.
[The game is in the banner (top of the page). Click it once to activate the game. Be sure to have the Robot Wants stylesheet active. -Jay]
hi having a little trouble getting the c, the little green lasers keep frying me, and also i cant drop a bomb when im flying
I hate platformers, mostly due to the frustration of barely missing jumps and having to start from the beginning of the area. Still, though, I just couldn't resist and I couldn't stop once I started... Finally got all the letters and the JIGman bits. Had to rely on the guide to see if stuff I was trying was just hard or if I needed an upgrade. Usually it was just hard :(.
How do you start the game? It just shows me the map.
[The game is in the banner of the site. Click on the banner (it should say "Click to Play") If it does not, then click here to change the site theme. -Jay]
YAY! I BEAT IT! BUT WHEN I SIGNED IN IT DELETED ALL MY PROGRESS! :D
I HATE SPIKES!!!!
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
Also, the reason there are so few people on the hall of fame is because this game is too effing difficult. There just isn't anything *casual* about it, especially since every time you leave, it forgets all the blocks you worked so hard to blow up/turn off.
The game saves your progress. If it's not saving for you, be sure your OS is allowing Flash to save game states on your computer.
Jay, it saves my progress as far as letters and JIGman bits are concerned, but it resets all walls and switches. Are you saying there's a way to convince it not to do that?
I don't think the game ever puts you in an non-winnable situation. The game always reloads with me at the last save point and the walls around me appear to be in the same state they were in before the reload.
I'm not sure if what you are suggesting is even a problem? What is the game preventing you from doing or is making more difficult for you?
Jay, there are points in the game where if you can just get past whatever spike field/stomper/what-have-you is currently blocking your path, you can blow up a bit of wall, which then lets you bypass that obstacle the next time you need to visit that vicinity. I'm thinking in particular of the lower right corner (have I mentioned that I HATE SPIKES?), which you have to revisit to get JIGman bit #4; but there are other points, too.
(Perhaps the walkthrough should mention that before you even attempt to acquire the M, make sure you have enough time to also acquire the U and then JIGman bit #4 in the same session.)
Ok, I can update the walkthrough, no problemo. I agree that might be a helpful addition. :)
I can't get the second A in "gameplay."
I'm shooting in the grate, but the bullet keeps bouncing out or taking too long and disappearing. Is there a trick to it?
Woops, I think it must be the first A in gameplay, because I already have the second one... anyway, I still have the same problem.
Never mind, I finally got it! Woot!
Can someone get this game working with the new site design?
You're right Meterman70, since we changed the banners at the top, the game does not work. We will try to do something for having it back.
Just a link to the .swf or something?
I would love to be able to play this again. :S
No plans then?
We have plans to bring this back eventually in some capacity as we've stated before, but prioritizing the general site maintenance and improvements has to come first. :)
Would some one tell how to start robot wants jig game. I can not get it
Hello! As stated above, this is disabled for the time being.
Can we have the link to the swf?
I liked the old banners better.
We're still interested in playing the game! :)
I'll donate to the charity of your choice
I understand that bringing this back isn't a priority, but would it be possible for you to send me a link or the swf at email@example.com? Please? I loved all the other Robot Wants... games and I was so excited when I found this one and so sad when I realized I was 4 years too late...
