What are the last two items under the old amulet and where do I get them?

Guess I gotta grind up haha

Anyone know how to beat

the developer?

The Hell level is making my player's life, well, a hell. Anybody have any tips for getting through it? I lucked out once with the first formation and some quick maneuvering and made it to the second screen only to be slaughtered there, and I haven't been able to get past the first screen since then.

Just plain fun. Never would have played this if the review hadn't made it sound so intriguing, and thanks for not spoiling it. It really is one of those games where all you can say is "just play it". Not even reading thru the comments yet b/c I don't want to spoil it for myself :-)

elvidge.sophie May 3, 2013 6:59 AM

Okay, probably a dumb question but how do I reload a game once I've exited the browser?

I saw people reacting negative on the "candies more candies!"-spell at the sorceress' hut

But the amount you get keeps growing every time you use it and I suspect that it also becomes larger depending on how far you are in the game, but i am not totally sure, but the price stays the same, so it become more and more interesting to use the spell

SirNiko May 3, 2013 7:10 AM

Frog, Universe:

Re-read the question carefully, and you'll know what to type. No outside knowledge is needed.

Hell level:

You should be able to beat this with a handful of invulnerability potions and a scroll of imp summoning. Major healing and seeds are optional. If you don't mind "cheating", save your game before you start and if you mess up just reload to keep your potions.

Start the level, plot a mental course through the demons and use i and k to avoid them. If you get in a fight, just go up or down to escape it. When you take some damage or get in a traffic jam, hit an invulnerability scroll and push through. Sometimes you'll just get a bad configuration of demons and it'll be hard. Once you get to the wall, use another invulnerability potion or healing potions to survive it. You'll smash halfway through and teleport to the left.

Dodge any demons that may be left and get ready for banshees and ghosts. Line up with the ghosts at the top or bottom, then send out an imp with a scroll. The imp will kill the ghosts effortlessly and prevent more from spawning. When you get to the right, navigate to the hole in the wall and clear the last section.

When you teleport the last time, avoid the fireballs or banshees and navigate back into the lane with the imp (which will be clear). When you find an opening, go through the broken hole in the wall and fight The Devil. If you use an invulnerability potion just as the fight starts you should be able to kill him in one try (if not, one teleport scroll and some trees/ healing should be enough, but I never needed them). You win!

Final level

The Develop(p)er

Bring invulnerability potions, healing potions and teleport scrolls. The level looks confusing, but really it's just like any other level except everything is bouncing up and down instead of sitting neatly on the ground. When you are in line with any set of three letters, you fight a monster. Some of them are tough! Use invulnerability potions, teleport scrolls, trees and healing potions as needed. When you reach the Develop(p)er, make sure you can activate an invulnerability potion just as the fight starts. The developer is weak to what appears to be a randomly selected letter on your keyboard. Push it to win!

Just mash keys on the keyboard while invulnerable and you should find the right one by chance.

Some strong hints for after the castle keep:

- Hell is hard. You need to use 'i' and 'k' to move up and down and dodge the monsters. Invulnerability can help. After you punch through the wall you'll get sent back by asterisks, the there will be more ghosts. Imps help with the ghosts. Third round also has ghosts and I think fireballs. DEV is pretty easy to beat.

- Yourself. Go see the sorceress.

- Dev garden. Use invulnerability/teleport combo.

- Dev moat. Do something to slow yourself down right at the edge of the cliff.

- Dev computer. Keep your eye on the lower right so you can see when you are fighting the developer. Then you have to push the correct key.

Hi asyayurtseven! Funny, you've actually already solved it! ;) The answer is...

"the answer".

If it's the question I'm thinking of, then your hint is that you've misunderstood what the frog asked you to do; that is, he is not asking you to answer the question.

Has anyone found a way to get more beserker potions? I picked x8 at the wishing well and now I'm wishing I didn't.

Based on comments, I'm trying to redo the entrance quest to get the plate armor, but I can only complete the quest as many times as I have beserker potions.

hermien.scholten May 3, 2013 10:41 AM

if some of you really want the answer to the frog's universe question:

Ignore the thing about the universe and read carefully.
(I'm afraid I'll have to paraphrase) It is along the lines of:
"type --the answer to the question-- what is the only thing to go
beyond the limits of our universe ?"

The frog is just being quite literal.

There are other ways to beat the entrance.

You must have the boots and either:
Cloning potion, the clone will clear a path, or
Luck, some runs are just lucky, especially if the * starts out flying low.

Jennifer, try eating more candies!

The more candies you eat the higher your hit points get.

Stinkoman May 3, 2013 6:26 PM

For some reason, the game isn't working for me. It won't load. I'm getting the basic "operation has timed out" error message. What should I do?

bluegriffin18 May 3, 2013 6:44 PM

Two questions:
1. Can I get more berserk scrolls later after the frog?

2. Does throwing candies do anything besides make the :( face appear/change?

For me, too. Looks like the game author's server is overloaded with traffic due to the success of the game. Best advice: try again later.

YellowLeaf May 3, 2013 8:07 PM

Help me! (please)

I made a save. I copied the code. Now I enter the code and it just says, "you have 0 candies!" and the candies never increase. I have tried using the original URL and entering the save in the URL. Same result. Please help! Thank you!

Hippasus May 3, 2013 8:32 PM

Here's a trick for the castle entrance:

Wait until the star gets close to you, then teleport back (with a scroll) to lure it over to the left side of the screen. With a little luck (and some healing potions), you might be able to blitz past it and beat the level without having to use a berserker potion.

Try it again, YellowLeaf.

The symptom you describe happens when you try to load a game ID for which the Candy Box server doesn't recognize. In other words, it might never have been saved properly. Earlier today I know the Candy Box server was having issues, so if you tried to save it earlier during that time, the save might have failed because the servers were overwhelmed.

If you continue to get the same result from your save code, then you may have to start a new game.

Working on a walkthrough, need a few things

enchanted sword
health, fire, imp, any others? how did they work for you

wishing well
which did you choose
candies by 5
lollipops by 8
potions and scrolls
how did your choice work out for you?

I actually had typed that way before I posted it. I did not refresh the page before I posted it. the flavors are amusing, I am keeping a list of them.

The Logical Ghost

you do not need to waste berserker potions on the entrance. Level up your health by eating candy. You will beat it when you A) have enough health and B) the level starts out good for you. That level starts random and I have only found that 2 or 3 scenarios allow me to pass through even with 400 health; no potions, just letting it play out itself. Sometimes I have to start it 3 times or more before it gives me a good one.

ArgetWelden May 4, 2013 12:40 AM

Is there anyway to find the correct key on the final level?

cant beat the second question. I typed so many things and cant past through it

Sorceress, "More candies":

You can max out the "Candies, more candies!" option at 300k candies. That's a 1-1 conversion from lollipops to candies. Use that with the candies converter, and you can convert back and forth as much as you want.

It's quicker to convert from lollipops to candies, so I keep the converter on all the time.

ff02130 May 4, 2013 2:12 AM

Is anyone else losing lollipops when hitting "save"? My # of lollipops scrolled back by several hundred thousand when I saved. Happened twice. I didn't notice this happening in earlier stages of the game. Anyone know why this is happening?

It's not happening to me, I just checked. Try emptying your browser cache and reload (after you save and jot down your save game code, of course). Maybe you have an older version of the game in your cache that's causing the issue.

YellowLeaf May 4, 2013 2:30 AM

Thank you for the response Jay! Way to be on top of your website!

The last level is unplayable for me. The stats and visuals are moved to the bottom of the screen, pushed below the long list of potions. This happened with the hell level as well, but I eventually beat it. Needing to scroll back and forth to use potions is a pain, especially with two separate scroll bars on the window.

jak2131 May 4, 2013 3:09 AM

Need help with a sword.

I have the summoning sword, and each time it has levelled up it summoned a different thing, apart from levels 7 and 8 have both summoned a candy monster. Is this a glitch, or does it stop changing now?
I'll verify when I level up again, but don't expect that any time soon :P

jak2131 May 4, 2013 3:40 AM

Just taken another look at it, the new one has the same name, but it does have slightly more health. Not sure if it has the same strength, no way for me to test that.

jak2131 May 4, 2013 5:01 AM

I'm now having trouble on the

developper's garden

I can only get one hit off on the enemies before dying.

On hard mode, has anyone found a way to increase HP? I've eaten 80,000 candies so far and still at 100HP...

SrPilha May 4, 2013 6:28 AM

wow, I now have all the candies in the world O_O

Great game, and incredibly addictive too! Loved it. Couldn't have made it through the Keep and Hell without the hints here, many thanks!

So... hard mode now, I guess? :D

SrPilha May 4, 2013 6:47 AM

also... um... just noticed this after posting: now that I've gone through

the dev's computer

it seems I can

make VERY expensive bugs and modify the program itself "in the strangest ways". First one gave 2 chocolate bars, no idea what to do with them... Hard mode might have to wait :)

This game only keeps getting better, I'm amazed.

jak2131 May 4, 2013 6:51 AM

At what point should I stop upgrading the sword? I'm at level 8 now

dararobinson May 4, 2013 7:19 AM

1.- Put 100 lollipops into your cauldron, 2.- Click Mix, 3.- Add 100 candies, 4.- wait until mixing timer is at 20 and click stop, 5.- Put into bottles

kate273 May 4, 2013 7:22 AM

@ dararobinson
oh it seems like I confused lollipops for candies till now! it works fine now, thank you!

jak2131 May 4, 2013 7:29 AM

I finished the game with a level 8 sword, but was kind of relying on invulnerability potions. You should be able to make it with enough health

dararobinson May 4, 2013 7:46 AM

Anyone know if there a max health?

jak2131 May 4, 2013 8:18 AM

I've been looking through the code and can't find anything about max health.

The way to work out health is: health = 100 + (candies eaten ^ 0.4)*2.1

Going by what I have seen it just keeps going up.

SrPilha May 4, 2013 8:36 AM

It *really* pays off waiting to be able to afford the level 2 bug. You can keep the converter on and grind the quests again for more candy. Speeding them up via the sorceress helps too!

To avoid cursing (but also laughing, I must admit) at the game, those who have gone very far might want to

NOT take the level 4 bug at 1000 mlp, and rather wait patiently for 10000 mlp (is that 10 glp?). Remember, you can do the Computer quest again for the huge loot!

jak2131 May 4, 2013 8:54 AM

It's not the amount of candy that is annoying me, it is the time it takes to convert :P

SrPilha May 4, 2013 9:56 AM

Ok, so now I'm grinding/waiting for

a level 6 bug (100 000 mlp, I guess)

It has been helpful to

have my health over 8000, by eating over 10^9 candies

and it might also be useful to know that

apparently you can't beat a develop(p)ing pony

My curiosity is duly piqued. :)

jak2131 May 4, 2013 9:59 AM

what's that about ponies? I saw something in the code about a wooden pony having a very rare spawn chance on the first stage.
What is your develop(p)ing pony?

jak2131 May 4, 2013 10:10 AM

ok, I see why not to choose bug 4 now, I'm quite liking my "Sword of Liflamesummoning" from bug 3 though

chibidani May 4, 2013 10:24 AM

Here's your

lollipop (my fave!)
korrigan (which is apparently an ugly dwarf fairy)

flavor lollipop!

This game is addicting! Though I'm still super stuck at the castle entrance, even with the hints posted :P

SrPilha May 4, 2013 10:42 AM

You see why not to choose it... so that means you chose it once, right? ;)

I got that sword up to level 13 now. With that and my 8k+ HP I can beat Chuck Norris on my own and not even have to rest afterwards.

As for the

ponies, well wait and see ;). I didn't meet a wooden one, but I should have insisted. Now I'll only try that again in a loooong while. You'll know without a doubt when you're able to go looking for it, though.

jak2131 May 4, 2013 11:02 AM

I got that sword up to level 39, and have about 800 health, I can easily beat the dragon and chuck norris without doing anything.

SrPilha May 4, 2013 11:09 AM

Impressive! Nice to see different strategies working. :)

I wonder what's the lowest HP/sword level one needs to pull off those stunts, and also to get by the Computer quest with just one invincibility potion.

Now, any ideas on how to

speed things up so we can get to those 100000 mlp and then despair for the (probable) 1 million mlp goal? :D

jak2131 May 4, 2013 11:16 AM

I've been trying to work out the best level that you can just keep running it without doing anything to get the most candies.

I think the castle keep takes that, at my level of sword, the dragon doesn't have time to do much damage. And none of the later levels are automated.
I'm doing that cause I can't be bothered to keep doing the developer level, but that would be faster.

jak2131 May 4, 2013 11:25 AM

I still don't understand how the conversion rate works, mine seems to go at a good speed for ages, then suddenly jump and convert everything at once.
I have reset the rate a few times cause I save before getting each bug, and if I don't like what I get I reload

dararobinson May 4, 2013 12:03 PM

Anyone have a guide for a candy and Lollipop strategy for getting as much of them as possible?
What I have...
I have my farm maxed, I have the converter and at the Sorceress' hut I have "Candies, more candies !" at 300klp and "Candies, faster candies !" at 1690klp. Any advice?

dararobinson May 4, 2013 12:04 PM

What the hell, I had spoiler tags around that last bit, sorry

jak2131 May 4, 2013 12:21 PM

I just found the simple solution for getting more end-game candy

Use the level 3 bug a few times, every so often, it will multiply your candies by 3 (other things it gives are sword level up 1, sword level down 3, and no effect)
I now have over 1 trillion candies, just waiting time.

kynalvarus May 4, 2013 12:22 PM

Does throwing candies on the ground do anything at higher amounts?

jak2131 May 4, 2013 12:24 PM

No, it just changes the face to look more sad. After 100 there is no more change.

CaptPicard May 4, 2013 12:47 PM

I'm having trouble beating

Chuck Norris. Any helpful suggestions?

SirNiko May 4, 2013 1:00 PM

Use the same strategy as for the dragon. Use an invulnerability potion, teleport scroll then seed and repeat. Because Chuck hits hard, make sure to use the invulnerability and teleports so you don't get caught fighting while vulnerable. That's about it.

Using a Jelly might help (it would make it pretty much the only useful application of jelly in the game) but I never tried it.

dararobinson May 4, 2013 1:24 PM

Any recipes work for the cauldron that are not listed in the recipe book?

Aside from

the 9000 candies one

SrPilha May 4, 2013 1:53 PM

YOU RULE that's an awesome discovery.

I think I'll also check if

there's something other than ponies with a level 5 bug.

jak2131 May 4, 2013 2:08 PM

Still sitting here waiting, is there no way to make the lollipops go even faster?
I have the base 100, and the x3, and the extra base 15 from the level 2 bug.

jak2131 May 4, 2013 2:11 PM

Woah, nvm, it just suddenly reached the point where they all go at once. Time for some testing :D

SrPilha May 4, 2013 2:20 PM

What's your next quest? Some of them are a good way of getting quite a lot of candy. You'll eventually also find an item in a quest that will let you get lollipops faster too.

@jak2131 (and others grinding where we are)
Of course there is, I should have checked before I even posted.

Another level 5 bug is that you find the Sword of Randomness. I'm... not sure what it does exactly, nor if I didn't prefer the Liflamesummoning. It does change your "shape" in the quests; I've seen the following:
r^r ... I think it's r*r, with * being some random character

It also messes with your health (even only against trees), sometimes eating a lot of it away, sometimes replenishing thousands of HP at once.

Also, its level is "infinity + N" (where N is the sword level you had before). :)

I'm now waiting to get over 10k mlp again to try that bug level again. If anyone finds a quicker way to convert candies to lollipops, we want it!! :D

About farming:

What do you mean extra base 15? With the level 2 bug, my farm is up to 10000 lp/sec, before the x3 from the Horn of Plenty.

dararobinson May 4, 2013 2:22 PM

What is all this about level 3 and 4 bugs? Bugs, as in a later part of the game with insect type bugs or actual bugs in the game that can be exploited?

dararobinson May 4, 2013 2:23 PM

I'm at the Castle Keep

jak2131 May 4, 2013 2:26 PM

I think I went too far

It isn't really a game anymore, it is showing all the things I have in exponentials, after you get past the bugs, you pretty much have options to change anything. I think this means I won :P

SrPilha May 4, 2013 2:32 PM

Don't worry about those bugs, they'll make sense (a lot) later. It's all part of the game, not exploits, but... you'll see. ;)

You should definitely try and win the Castle's Keep, there are some very useful items there.

Do you have the cauldron? You'll need to cook some things before you can defeat that quest.

Specifically: invulnerability potions, seeds, and teleport spells from the merchant. An imp summoning scroll and some health potions won't hurt either.

There are some pretty good strategies suggested in previous posts.

SrPilha May 4, 2013 2:42 PM

Awesome! I'm slowly getting there as well.

Did you find the wooden pony, after all? I'm grinding the Forest while I wait for my 12*10^12 candies to convert. :)

Those are really MAJOR spoilers jak2131 and I are posting... be warned!

jak2131 May 4, 2013 2:48 PM

Yeah, don't be reading these :P

Nah didn't find it, my save is so messed up now that there would be no point looking now, I think I am done

SrPilha May 4, 2013 3:39 PM

Well, all I can say is

Being a tab is all my life

Absolutely brilliant game! :)

I'm working on a walkthrough/strategy guide to post here, if it's wanted.

dararobinson May 4, 2013 4:18 PM

SrPilha, I am quite sure its wanted.

I would recommend that you create a guide / walkthrough though rather than just a walkthrough. And what I mean by that is that you would have 1 section that gives you basic info like item list and how many areas to expect and some other info without actually giving away any of the mystery and secrets of the game. Then the walkthrough would just spoon-feed you

You unlock these when you beat the last boss. Read on for major spoilers.

- level 1 costs 1 million lollipops, and they increase in cost by a factor of 10 per level
- the candies converter occasionally becomes rapid and converts everything at once. This is the only reasonable way to afford the later bugs. I haven't been able to rapidly convert when at infinity candies, but it may be that I didn't wait long enough.

- it's possible to get nothing from any of the bugs
1 - gives chocolate bars
2 - increases max lolipop production (up to 10000 lp/sec)
- gives you candies (around 1-40 mil)
- gives back all candies you have thrown on the floor
3 - triples current number of candies (up to infinity)
- adds one level to your sword
- removes three levels from your sword (you'll still have a net increase in sword level if you spam this bug.)
- gives you the sword of lifeflamesummoning
4 - fake. It does nothing.
5 - turns everything, including yourself into a pony (the developer boss might be invincible when it's a pony)
- gives you the sword of randomness. It randomizes your sprite and kills everything except the developer in one hit.

There are no bugs beyond level 5, but you can unlock the bug factory (at 10 trillion lp, I think. It could be more.) This lets you play around and break the game.

- you can eat infinity candies to become invincible (infinite health)
- if you reload, anything with infinity will drop down to 0. Some bug effects are also dispelled, but they're easy to recover.

YellowLeaf May 4, 2013 4:59 PM

dararobinson May 4, 2013 5:07 PM

The answer to your question has already been answered, read above its there

dararobinson May 4, 2013 5:15 PM

Is there a point in using

the "candies, more candies !" at the sorceress' hut? The rate seems to get better but its still very expensive
