In a world where artwork can go evil, and doodles have thoughts of only destruction, only one... ink... thing can save the day! As soon as you draw him anyway. Fight against the waves of random, but violent scribbles and pass all 10 waves to save the day. Inkthings, by CrazyFrancis, is a defend by drawing game, kind of like a cross between Fruit Ninja and Draw a Stickman. You start off by drawing your little hero and then using your pen swipes you fend off against the other sketches. Either slashing through them, or drawing a mark for them to crash into before they crash into you. There's a great amount of multitasking between defense and offense as you have to dodge with your little drawing and wipe with your mighty sword of ink. It uses both the keyboard and the mouse, but sadly doesn't seem to be very friendly to track pad users. Surely, you can find an attachable mouse some where, because the energy this games gives off makes it a great action game you don't want to miss out on for any reason.
One of the unique things about Inkthings is the enemies. While some just want to mosey across the screen, others come right towards you, wanting to just brush up against your drawing to make him pop in an explosion of ink. While this mode of 'charge!' is what most of them are set in, how they go about it varies. One is even afraid of your mouse and will go running away till it thinks it has a free chance to charge again. You'll have to think about how or what to draw with your limited ink that will do the most damage in the three seconds it has before it fades. There are sketches of power ups the enemies can drop that will increase your ink, and there are also some that give your hero benefits as well. Enemies will also drop stars, pick up thirty of them and you'll get a new heart. But each item you go for means dashing through the bad guys and increasing the risk of popping horrifically. While you only have five hearts to start with, and one hit kills, Inkthings is actually very forgiving. Even if you die completely the game just starts you on the wave you were last on. Some might find this takes away some of the challenge, but after dying for the umpteenth time, you'll be grateful for it. It also lets you redraw your hero if you so desire! It's time to let your inner artist out and kick some inky butts.
Funny for a while, nice learning/difficuty curve. Great music!
Very nice and accurate review!
Santi of Crazy Francis.
Thanks, Santi!
I'm excited to see what more great games Crazy Francis has under their hat. =D
