With lots of upgrades and types of enemies, silly graphics and solid mechanics, it's probably the most fun you can get out of simulated fishing.

Straight from the ghastly hallows of Nitrome comes the hobbling horror of a humdinger, Stumped! As a hopping foot that can only make right turns, can you bounce your way to the exit while dodging piercing spikes, frightening firepits, and eerie eyeballs?

Spooky rather than scary, Mystic Asylum is an escape game of chills rather than frights. No jump scares here, just a lot of spooky atmosphere enlivened by the standard conventions of a room escape. Stunning to look at and fun to play, Mystic Asylum is also a nice, creepy escape slap dab in the middle of the holiday season, something to cut the treacle and a relief from all of the frantic shopping.

Pixels and physics, two things just about every casual gamer is thoroughly familiar with. Pixel Explorer takes these simple ideas and turns them into a challenging and precision-oriented game of action and reflexes. Using just the mouse, you play a little pixel ball that can transform with nothing more than a [left click]. Turn yourself into a shooting ship that can blast in any direction and work your way through over 30 stages of increasing difficulty, encountering strange new types of pixels while you play!

This week we're going to point-and-click our way out of some underground chambers in Mafia Escape 2, by Wild Harmony Studio.

Ready for some spelunking? Descend into the depths of this fiendishly difficult little isometric puzzler, where the goal is just to get to the exit... which only opens once all the floor tiles have fallen... and is usually behind some traps, switches, and unbreakable green crystals. All in a day's work!

Working as one, two little squares must navigate towering structures and pits of spikes to find where they belong. Though this puzzle platformer is on the easy side and doesn't quite develop enough of a personality, its stylish presentation and enjoyable gameplay make it the perfect coffee break distraction.

Alexey Perepechko's The Deep serves up the same scintillating experience as Boomshine while giving players a bit more control over the reactions they precipitate. The graphics and animations are colorful and atmospheric without being distracting, and the ambient soundtrack really sets the mood, especially the joyful, ethereal theme that kicks in when you complete your goal. With its pretty production and well thought-out gameplay, The Deep is a clever twist on a familiar game that fully maximizes its potential.

Fly, float, swing, and sling across Artie's imagination, using help from unique creatures to get to his pillow to find an end to his fantastic but challenging dreams. It's a surreal and colourful physics puzzler with a great sense of style.

Next up for your action/physics fix: Cling, a new release from Ghostwriter. In Cling you control Edgar the electric spider. As everyone knows, electric spiders love nothing more than reaching a goal at the end of a level. Edgar's legs reach out and automatically grab pegs on the wall when he gets close enough to them. This "sticky" movement lets you slowly crawl across a stage, working both with and against your momentum to avoid obstacles and leap over pegless chasms.

A bear falls asleep in a fruit crate and finds himself in a dungeon in Slime Prince's castle. The bear teams up with a treasure chest and they go on a slime-destroying, treasure-hunting adventure. If that's not bizarre enough, wait till you see them bouncing off a huge pig roast amidst a pile of broken plates.

A dark, moody world bereft of sunlight, this game has you jumping, leaping and fighting your way through your darkened homeland to reunite pieces of a Sun Gem. Use the [arrow] keys and [S] to jump, attack and interact with the noirish landscape.

While Dungeon Dice is in many ways a typical RPG, its twist on the genre is that instead of fighting monsters with sword and fang, you fight each other with dice, or "magical numeric cubes." In a way, this is no different from any other RPG, but moving a background mechanic to the forefront makes for a different experience.

Stargazers is a minimalist puzzle Ludum Dare entry by Cake and Zeik that's sure to have everyone watching the skies. An interesting variation on connect-the-dots, Stargazers may be short, but it has astronomical amounts of polish.

How long can you last against an endless tide of enemies when your own weapon can be deadly to you in this simple but also simply addictive arcade game from Michel Gerard? Toss your boomerang and leap to avoid it and attack enemies behind you, but it's only a matter of time...

In this adorable little multidirectional shooter, Alone in the Park, you play John the Cook, who after a long day at work, closes down his restaurant and decides to take a shortcut through the park. Big mistake. Because, as we all know, walking alone at night in the park is just asking for a purple multidimensional portal to open up and suck you into a parallel universe controlled by evil mushrooms. In more conventional shooters, you'd have your pick of shotguns, ninja stars, or BFGs. But you're just a cook afterall, so you'll have to make due with thrown cigarettes and pizza cutters, at least until you've earned enough points to upgrade your weapons

Worry not about secret codes or enigmatic messages; Lab Escape simply requires you to take stock of your surroundings and act accordingly. This isn't a bad thing, however; it's kinda nice to take a break from more fantastical situations.

What has royalty ever done that was so bad? Sure, there's been a few taxed-in-the-ground peasants and the trifling matter of some wars of conquest causing untold death and misery, but what's a little abuse of power between friends? Certainly it's nothing that deserves having one's castle knocked in on one's head. Hold Your Ground rectifies this situation by putting you in charge of building a defensive structure to guard the royal person. God save the adorable little bearded king!

As the name suggests, Balancing Act requires you to keep a number of balls (and other ball-ish things) balanced on top of each other. Click on a ball and drag your mouse to rotate it, but remember that each action has an equal and opposite reaction! The stylish and humorous presentation and simple control system are to be particularly commended in this worthy game design competition finalist.

PostBeta invites you to a Tron-like slotcar race, where traffic and obstacles are more of a hindrance than the other racers. Across 6 tracks, race to set the best times possible on densely populated courses that only allow lane changes, rather than traditional steering.

And Sienna Room has some pretty fun puzzles to distract us with during our stay. So, kick back and enjoy the zen calm of one of Tomatea's early room escape efforts in Sienna Room, a place so comfy looking you might never want to actually leave.

The colours, THE COLOURS! FunByJohn delivers a bouncy, riotous arena shooter about blasting other tanks with blobs of deadly colour across a variety of fun-house landscapes. Chaotic and charming, though not without its sticking points, its a vibrant way to blow up a coffee break.

Place and upgrade towers of all types to defend against the incoming monster horde in this cute tower defense game that will appeal to fans of Kingdom Rush and Demons vs Fairyland! With multiple difficulty levels and even the option to let a stage randomly select and place your towers for you, it's a solid and satisfying addition to the genre.

Certainly we know about the immediate dangers of the undead: the biting and the clawing and the infecting and the whatnot. What about the larger environmental concerns? I mean, a zombie claws his way out of a shallow grave... who's going to be re-sodding that ground? A vampire explodes in a fiery cloud of dust... someone needs to sweep that up. And don't even get me started on what can happen when a werewolf gets in your flower bed. 3kggames's new action looper Dirt of the Dead shows that the clean-up can get just as intense as the confrontation.

Quick, intrepid casual gamer! The world is not at stake, but someone has inconsiderately left these brightly coloured balls lying about! We need someone with a steely eye to launch them into their matching buckets in this physics game of skill. Sound easy? You may be surprised. Simple, effective, and fun, BucketBall 2 is the perfect way to spend your coffee break.

Cubor lets players gently roll colorful blocks to respectively colored designated areas, which will be a familiar trope to veteran puzzlers. But Cubor adds a couple of twists to the formula. Cubes move by rotating in the direction of travel, and as a cube is only truly home when the colored side is face-down, you must assess not only the means of delivery, but also the approach. Not every orientation will do, and part of the solving is in adjusting the cube's orientation so that it can arrive home properly.

In a sketchy, notepad world, a doodled character moves with ninja-like precision over the landscape and deadly terrain. Under birds, over spikes, avoiding pitfalls and collecting floating clocks en route to the exit is a lot more difficult than it seems in this tricky one-button platformer.

Most of us know not to explore shady abandoned asylums. Well... everyone except you, apparently. Trapped inside the Arendel Asylum, you'll need to search for items, solve puzzles, and gather orbs to escape in this ambitious but rough-around-the-edges game from Selfdefiant.

Chompy, the star of the puzzle platformer by Wolve, is a crocodile who loves eating, coins, and eating coins. While the tutorial levels give the game a slow start, it is a game that will win you over with its sense of joy and a level of shine to the mechanics that distinguishes it from similar works.

Is it Zuma? Is it a shooter? Or is it just one of the most funky, deceptively relaxing little browser games you'll play all day? Harvest DNA and chain together matching colors in this gorgeous hybrid game that gradually ups the difficulty. Perfect for your coffee break, or any time you feel the need to take out frustration on that haughty genetic material.

Collect stars and close portals by using the giddy shapes in this physics puzzler. Careful though, once all the portals are gone the round ends, even if you have stars left to collect. So fix your scheduled to leave room for a little joy in your day and start solving some puzzles.

A classic one-room escape game with puzzles that are nicely varied with a lot of combination type and those that use found objects. What is nice to see with Escape from the Room 202 is a designer who seriously understands how an escape game should flow. A short and somber point-and-click story, this game puts you in the role of an astronaut stranded in space, waiting out the years while he tries to plan his escape. Explore the station and collect memory fragments so you can finally work up the fortitude to do something about your predicament.

Space invaders and Lincoln logs mixed all into one! Build your fort, collect your gold and save the city from alien invasion in this fast paced strategy shooter. Artillerize is a great strategy crafting game that overcomes some of its more frustrating aspects with its entertaining and innovative gameplay.

In this Ludum Dare title, you're a knight fighting your way through an ever-shifting dungeon encompassed entirely by one screen. Scamper about, doing battle with skeletons and collecting treasure before the timer hits zero. You'd better make sure you're on the right portal when it does!

A simple jump-and-run platformer with style, Space Walker shows that a very simple concept paired with simple graphics can be made into an enjoyable and very pretty casual game experience. Variety in enemy type, enemy movement, and gravity for each level provides an increase in challenge, while a randomized color scheme provides something new to look forward to. Nothing earth-shattering or all that innovative here, just a well-designed package from tip to tail.

Gleefully pick off a roomful of unfortunately-placed nefarious henchmen with just a few well-placed billiards-like trick shots in this embarassingly-safisfying physics projectile puzzler. With everything from grenades to insane Tesla guns, you've got a lot of tools for the job.
