Escape from the Similar Rooms 3

elleHottategoya has more of the same for escape-the-room enthusiasts, which is exactly what we want when in the mood for light, casual puzzles in a minimalist-yet-surreal-yet-photorealistic setting. As you'd expect from the series, this game is both easy and enjoyable; maybe because it's lightweight but remains engaging. You need only click to move around, view clues and work the puzzles. Patiently navigating rooms and stairs while everything looks so much the same is the hardest part. The thinky part is making observations and piecing them together to solve three codes, opening three similar doors, the last one bringing you freedom and congratulations. Well worth that dèjá vu feeling of gratification at the end.

Walkthrough: Escape from the Similar Rooms 3

Door 1

  1. You begin facing some stairs. Turn around to examine the room:

    • To the left, there's a chair and picture hanging above it; zoom in closer...

      • make note of the design in the picture, it looks like part of a letter or a number.

    • Turning left, you see you're on floor B15.

    • Turn left twice, past an unremarkable bookcase, and head up the stairs.

  2. On the next floor, B14, check out the picture over the chair again:

    • again, note the design. It seems like, if you put this picture together with the one before it, you can make some sense of it.

  3. Continue up the stairs, stopping at each floor to note the pictures above the chair.

  4. Finally, on floor B10, you'll come to a locked door. Examine the panel on the wall, to the left of the door:

    • Enter the correct 10-digit number.

    • The clue gives you the order: from floor B15 to B10.

    • SOLUTION:

Lining up the pictures to put the two halves of each number together, gives you the code...

      6 2 8 5 4

    • When you enter the correct code, click "OK" and this door will unlock.

  5. Go up the stairs to floor B9.

Door 2

  1. Continue up the stairs, turning left as you arrive in each room to face the next set of stairs, and making note of anything that stands out as different in this place full of sames.

  2. On floor B5, you'll reach another locked door. Examine the panel on the wall to its left:

    • Push the four buttons in the proper order.

    • The clue to this is on B7F, as indicated in the picture above the chair.

    • SOLUTION:

Look at the bookcase on floor B7. Note how each shelf has mark on one of its corners. The shape of each shelf matches one of the four buttons. The arrow next to the buttons indicates you should start with the top shelf and work you way down. Press each of the four buttons in this order:

      TOP RIGHT
      BOTTOM LEFT
      BOTTOM RIGHT
      TOP LEFT
      BOTTOM RIGHT

    • When correct, the door will automatically unlock.

  3. Before leaving, note the placement of the picture above the chair.

  4. Open the door and go up the stairs to floor B4.

Door 3

  1. This time as you climb the stairs, turn right on each floor to observe the pictures above the chairs.

  2. When you arrive on floor 1, you'll reach the last locked door. Zoom in on the panel to its left:

    • Again you need to press each of the three buttons in the proper order.

    • The clue written above the buttons tells you to look at B5F through 1F.

    • SOLUTION:

Starting on floor B5 and going up, notice whether the picture above the chair was in the middle, to the left, or to the right. Going in that same order, click either the middle, the left or the right button...

      MIDDLE-LEFT-LEFT-RIGHT-MIDDLE-LEFT

    • The door will automatically unlock when you've entered the proper sequence.

  3. Open the door and go outside. You've escaped!

Congratulations!

Short and repetitive, but not bad.
Good to kill 5 min.
