The second letter of the Name has been spoken.

Sigurd Rage October 23, 2009 6:21 PM

What if the space was left intentionally blank?

BuenoCabra October 23, 2009 6:25 PM

It's ridiculous that some people are angry about this. There's literally nothing to be angry about.

Now, if there's a three-week ARG campaign that you invest a lot of time into and the reveal is disappointing, then you have the blessing of the rational world to be irate. Otherwise, get over yourself.

You really came to a casual game site to get angry about a marketing technique? Sheesh.

theprogram00 October 23, 2009 6:27 PM

If escape the room games have taught me anything, all time based puzzles can be beaten my changing your computer time...

Aha! it's november 16th now!

Sigurd Rage October 23, 2009 6:31 PM

At least I'm not alone in thinking it might be a Alternate Reality Game, Beno. And at present, ans the all knowing pool god would say "Signs point to yes."

shyguy528 October 23, 2009 6:36 PM

now what?

android sam October 23, 2009 6:46 PM

okay. I'm intrigued. I guess i'll have to wait.

"What if?" The more important question is "What if NOT?". I mean, seriously, it's life-or-death-by-werebunnies stuff here. OR IS IT?!

SteamPunk October 23, 2009 7:03 PM

What if what? I guess I'll have to wait till Nov. 16.

SquidtamerDA October 23, 2009 7:11 PM

Argh. I'm stuck on level 5, at that bit near the sponge and the dirty dishes. Give me some help here, dudes.

lastofthedaves October 23, 2009 7:18 PM

gabbo, Gabbo, GABBO!

What if everyone reading this just lost The Game?

"So people, the mystery is solved. The "what if" campaign is either an advertisement for the IF competition, or for JIG's entry into the competition, assuming they have a such." -- ThemePark

Whoa, ThemePark, I think you got it! JIG is probably working on a IF piece for the competition. That would explain everything! Actually, I wouldn't be too surprised if the game turned out to be about a guy who is surfing the web, lazily reading some game reviews, when suddenly a cryptic message pops in... WHAT IF?

But that still wouldn't explain the "November 16th" and the hidden URL in the banner...

Awww... =(

Well, back to waiting it is!

(XD Thats my friend's birthday.)
Aside from that, I'm really interested now ... I hope whatever "What if?" is, that it is worth the wait and the teaser.

Interesting. November 16th is my birthday.

ThemePark October 23, 2009 8:50 PM

The date signifies the end of the judging for the competition, as Daphne suggested. And the hidden url hints at the game being about trying to navigate that site. XD

Obviously I don't know what "what if" signifies, but it seemed very probable to me that it would be about the IF contest. Now that Jay has mentioned more information coming in next week, well I seriously doubt it's that.

Angry is a very strong word. I am not in the least bit angry, just a tad disappointed that JiG would use such a marketing technique. I've never cared for secretive advertising campaigns, like I said they make me lose all interest immediately.

No problem, although writing a short post saying "We have an important announcement to make" would have heightened my anticipation much more than this. But no harm done, and I am truly glad that you are providing us with more information next week. :)

So I'll play along with this game. Who wants to bet on what this announcement could be?

What if JiG got bought up by some company? (Rather unrealistic I hope, but the first thought that came to mind)
What if Jay is leaving the site and trusting his fellow writers with the running of it?

Yeah okay, so I can only come up with bad ifs right now. But I seriously doubt it's any of them. So people, come up with some good if announcements. :)

What hidden URL?!

Are you referring to the joke Donut pulled?

Interesting. November 16th is my birthday.

SkfyS Day October 23, 2009 9:13 PM

A sweepstake

Coffe Break October 23, 2009 9:40 PM

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

-Rudyard Kipling

ThemePark October 23, 2009 9:41 PM

Yes, of course, since he himself referred to it a few posts above mine, I figured I'd go along with it. ;)

Ah, alright then, carry on. :)

Hmmm... What if? I wonder... But, I suppose that's the point, no? ^^;

What if I can't wait?

what if on november 16 we are all killed by ninjas?

Interesting... I guess? There's not much to say at this point... happy commenting everyone. :)

OOOOOH I'd totally do a JIG ARG as my first ARG experience.

It all depends on what the meaning of "if" is.

And what the meaning of "what" is, as well.

43-1= 42

I'll be waiting!

T1ofheaven October 24, 2009 4:53 AM

Oh... I can't wait..

Hmm... An anagram of "what if" is "haw fit". Add in "November" and you get "Brave Newt of Him". Perhaps a newt is trying to work out.

orangeall October 24, 2009 5:24 AM

it has been tagged as a "teaser" already, so it i just for fun

maybe...- -"

Januschka October 24, 2009 8:27 AM

well, i hope the game will really be worth the waiting and not just a dumb pr-strategy.

this is my comment, really wondering what's gonna happen.

Well I signed up for the sake of leaving a comment, JiG. I hope you're happy!!1!

The Rawk Hawk October 24, 2009 11:54 AM

What if... It's something important?

What if...? Now you have me wondering..

God, those are some high standards Kipling put forth. Is growing up impossible???

Aha... clever. I suspect that this is all a psychological experiment, to see how people react to the question "What If?" with no extra information.

Either that, or someone came up with a really good idea for a game name, but couldn't think of a game for it.

awesomelyawesomeAJ October 24, 2009 3:09 PM

@Muttroid; darnit!!! You made me lose the game...

What if............*long silence*........ I couldn't think of anything to say after what if???

randomnormality October 24, 2009 5:41 PM

What... if?

I'm with Holly - very clever. :-)

Either that, or someone has some good news of some kind to share, but hasn't made their mind up how to do it.

Or it's quite simply a combination of boredom and genius.

Kudos, guys. I'll be back on Nov. 16th to find out!

Where do you find the flashlight? And seriously, I'm tired of trying to figure out how to use the paperclip!!! XD

November 16 October 24, 2009 6:30 PM

I'm coming.

(I left a comment. Do I win? )

Roseate Spoonbill October 24, 2009 6:41 PM

stupidcheeseboy October 24, 2009 7:21 PM

Has no one else clicked on the tag 'teaser'?

Hmmm...? I'm curious... What the heck is the meaning of all that?

Denita TwoDragons October 24, 2009 10:19 PM

What could it be? WHAT COULD IT BEEEE????

What if I hadn't taken the red pill?

Well what ever it is it sure has made an impact! Roll on the 16th November!

Crazycolorz5 October 25, 2009 9:43 AM

Whats gonna happen?

What if....I was the person who created this, and I'm having a good laugh, watching you all drive yourselves mad?
No, that's completely unrealistic...
What if....a giant cheese took over the world, using brainwashed ducks to GET INTO OUR MINDS?! Then these strange, purpley-greeny-turqoisey coloured men came out of the holes in the cheese, taking control of our bodies because we could not resist becase the ducks were keeping us steady with our own thoughts?
Then a lone traveller, the only human on Earth with their own mind, fought them, releasing all of humanity.
What if all of that started on the 16th of November, ending precisely one year later - ON NOVEMBER THE 16TH?
Yeah, that seems way more probable.

I'll allow you to choose - my first comment (the really clever one mentioning psychological experiments) or my second comment (evil cheesemen).
Which seems more believable?
Myself, I'm choosing my second comment. Beware the cheesemen!

I am intrigued!

Bellatrix October 25, 2009 3:18 PM

I'm waiting

Anonymous October 25, 2009 3:53 PM

what if November 16th wasn't 3 days after my birthday?

Secretary of Defense: "The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, all very clever films. But can you use your amazing idea brain now to help us stop the terrorists."

M. Night Shyamalan: "What if…what if it turns out they aren't terrorists but they're actually werewolves from the future."

Secretary of Defense: "No, no, they're terrorists. They've been linked to Al-Qaeda."

M. Night Shyamalan: "But what if Al-Qaeda, it turns out, is the group being terrorized by aliens."

Secretary of Defense: "No, no, that's not an idea, that's a twist. We need ideas."

M. Night Shyamalan: "How about we make everyone think that terrorists attacked us but really, we were all already dead."

Secretary of Defense: "Get him out of here."

bjohndick October 25, 2009 6:51 PM

interesting. leaving a comment i guess.

Aaauuugghh the suspense!

Dead Star October 25, 2009 9:24 PM

Okay, sure ... Let's do this.

Spam spam spam spam...

Jonnyrocket October 25, 2009 10:24 PM

fun game!

"What if this space was left intentionally blank?" might be a clue, not sure. read it in the page source...

Ahh, nice to see jay is back on form and correcting grammatical mistakes once again. I hope I don't have to tell you again.

p.s. Are we there yet? I need to pee.

What if I don't?

Anonymous October 26, 2009 9:27 AM

It's my birthday!

What if Jayisgames started charging to be on the webstie?????

It's black Wii remotes... avail Nov 16th

Independent October 26, 2009 1:32 PM

OK, I'll give it a shot

...jayisgames finally pried my email from me?

but i'm going to see eddie izzard on teh 16th - I can't stay in!

What if I just read this banner today, thus requiring me to read more than 275 comments? What then? I am not as fortunate as those who commented day one? Is this to see how far we will read?

What if I don't want to know about November 16? What if I want to know about November 17? Hmm...?

...I STILL WANT TO KNOW!! Darn, I've been suckered into waiting impatiently by my calendar.

Lots o' comments. October 26, 2009 8:51 PM

Yes, I used my name as a little message thingy.

How do you do step number 3????

Joshua Edwards October 27, 2009 9:27 AM

what if the 16th was my birthday? oh wait, IT IS! this is all a birthday present for me! im so special!

Which if?

Sigurd Rage October 27, 2009 4:29 PM

What if jay rick rolls us, by the way Roseate Spoonbill, your the first one to rick roll me. and what is this 'Game' Some of you are talking about?

It told me to comment, so here I am...

And to the person who posted Kipling's poem, you're awesome :)

Enzo Aprile October 27, 2009 7:14 PM

Well, this REALLY is an interesting game. I think I don't need to read all the comments... maybe I'll just wait 'till November 16th.

what if you just lost the game?

But... but... what if... NOT?!

What if...
Nov. 16 is when JIG plans to release DexDorugamon from the Digi-mension? What if Nov. 16 is when the Browncoats return? What if, on Nov. 16, Ash finally catches 'em all? What if Nov. 16 is the day Jane truly confesses his love for Lisbon? What if, on Nov. 16, Zero Punctuation gives a good review? What if Nov. 16 is when The Doctor gets back with Rose? What if Nov. 16 is when the remaining Pythons get back together? What if Nov. 16 is the release dat eof the new Nikki Heat book? What if nobody reads this comment or understands it and I feel like a failure? Seriously, you guys have some crazy theories.

The idea of enforced waiting on the internet is quite funny actually, as everyone is so used to instantly accessing whatever information they want.

Anyway, I just wanted to mention that the comment tabs don't seem to be working properly - at the top of the third page of comments the '3' is highlighted as normal, but when I reach the most recent comment the '2' is highlighted. If I click on the '3' tab it just sends me back to to the top of the page. (Firefox, latest version).

Not a major problem, but if I had a really short memory I could just be here reading the third page of comments over and over again.

What if I want to play, but I don't want to comment about how I play?

What if not?

Think about it.

Pwn1337all October 31, 2009 6:37 AM

What if... this is a fake?

>look at clock
The time is 10:22 AM, GMT on October 31...
You are in a room. There is a time machine here. The obvious exits are south and enter.
You are in a time machine. There is a panel here.
>look at panel
The panel has a year, month, day, hour, minute, and second display.
>look displays
The displays have 2 buttons above it. One with a + and one with a -. They say:
December 24, 2005, 6:14:29 PM.
>set panels
You hear a whirring sound, and the view slowly changes, with the date display on the door going nearer and nearer to your target date. It stops, allowing you to step out.
You are in a room. A computer is on a table.
>look at computer
This is a normal computer.
>switch on computer
>start internet explorer
The computer crashes.
OK. Goodbye.

Realistic simulation... isn't it?

Ok, I'll bite too. What if... the world ended on the day before? (November 15, 2009) DUN DUN DUUUUUUNNNN!

What if this is part of CGDC #7

What if this is part of CGDC #7

Whatt if you saw a mermaid a beach on an otherwise normal day?

serenhybrid November 2, 2009 7:18 AM

But November 16th is so far, and I have no patience! Something awesome had better happen!

Okay, i'm stuck:

I have:

saved the first & second princesses and got the royal tiaras,

Melted them to form the Destiny Sword

defeated the Evil Squirrel, Bob

and used his key to unlock the Box in Asif-ville, left a comment

but now....

I have got two clues, '16' and 'November' and I don't know what to do!

The suspense!...

It is probably Jay's birthday or some personal
