VirtualVillagerLover May 22, 2009 11:52 PM

Oh thanks so much. An Orphan just arrived at my door and her name is Zebra now i have 2 kids and a married couple

I want reward my little people with treats and I need the pump for the fountain, but neither of these items are showing up for sale. Is there a way to refresh the varied items? There are empty slots and 2 outfits.

Jenna - The items in the store refresh every few hours, there's no way to force them to refresh.

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 12:17 AM

Help!! Fast! One of the kids is a "bit blue". What does it mean?

VVLover - "A bit blue" means they are a little depressed. Sometimes praising them or giving them a treat helps, or getting a pet or a house upgrade. Sometimes it is because an adult who wants children is childless or unmarried.

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 12:21 AM

How do you give treats?

But they haven't refreshed throughout the entire game. My people have 4 children and have grey hair.

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 12:45 AM

Jenna- If that is happening there is probably a bug in the game, or you just have to wait a little more.

'Oh dear, you've had triplets'. LOL!! My family is first generation and these are the first babies they had.

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 3:48 AM

Is that even possible???

Virtual Village Lover: Apparently so, I must admit I was shocked.

I'm having trouble with the wall compound...I bought it, but it won't let any of my characters mix it. It's just sitting there. Any ideas on what to do or how to get rid of it?

grinnyp May 23, 2009 4:13 AM

VirtualVillagerLover - It is indeed. I've been running 4 families, one of them for a month (6 generations in) and not one of them had triplets. Just for the heck of it I started a new 5th family earlier today. I decided it was time for their first child a few minutes ago and lo and behold, she had triplets. New family, first time out.

grinnyp May 23, 2009 4:51 AM

Becca -

About the wall compound:

Have you fixed the leaky hose at the back of the house yet? If you have not, you cannot use the all compound until it is fixed.

I have also been wondering about the chimes - it would make sense if they announced collectibles. But I find collectibles without hearing any chimes so either there's no connection or it doesn't work properly.

About the patio thing - if it is a bottle then why is it tipped over? Unfortunately I have no idea what else could it be.

Some things I find annoying - instead of sitting on the armchair they lay on the floor beside it. And most annoying - when they start out to do something they first attempt to go there in the straight line... and of course hit some wall, then they are enlightened and suddenly aware of all the obstacles. But sometimes it means they have to go back to where they started from and it is such a waste of time. I wish they would fixed it.

cybdonna May 23, 2009 10:28 AM

To ShhhQ:

I also had a child left behind by dead parents, they adopted her just before they died. So I had a 3 year old running around unattended! I went to the Family screen and started a new generation with her and she was now 27 years old.

Also, this might help for those of you who have no patience:

Once your person picks up a collectable, you can move them and they will drop the collectable, but they will still get credit for it; ie. money for selling it or added to the collection. So you don't have to wait for them to walk back in the house and complete the task. This doesn't work for weeds, socks, the remote or wrappers though.

cybdonna May 23, 2009 10:31 AM

Question: Can somebody let me in on the red ball thing? Why are we looking for them?

After reading your comment grinnyp, I decided to share the name of my kid that is so strange. She is named Jpeg. Lol.

Missy918 May 23, 2009 11:50 AM

I have to ask! What does "checking the outfit" mean??? Thanks

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 12:43 PM

Missy918: Checking the outfit means they are admiring their outfit in the mirror, it is not good behavior but, it's not bad behavior, so just let them do it.

grinnyp May 23, 2009 12:49 PM

Missy918 -

It means they're vain. :-)

Missy918 May 23, 2009 1:03 PM

Ahh thank you vvlover :)

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 1:06 PM

How do you give treats to your families?

VirtualVillagerLover - Treats

You buy them and just drag them onto the person, you want to give it too

Greetings, Kayleigh

Missy918 May 23, 2009 1:11 PM

I'm not complaining but, I do agree that they could have put more effort into this game. Let the people interact with more things, least let us interact with the pets!! And the prices of things?? What were they thinkng?? It's a fun game but seriously, for the price of their games, I do wish there would have been more to do with this game. Maybe they will read these and do it!!

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 1:32 PM

Well missy918, it gets more exiting after you have more families and have more upgrades and have more collectons and stuff like that.

Hey Everyone! Weird but I had my 2nd gen. and My son AND his wife said "NO WAY" to kids and ended up having triplets! and then 2 more (so far) but my first gen both Wanted kids and only had 2, LOL... The triplets ALL have the Same everything even likes and dislikes, kinda weird (but theyre ugly lol all my boys look the samE!) Just wondering if that has happened to anyone else with the Triplets thing haha! THANKS

I have had some interesting families. One family, 2 of the 3 boys had on what looked like Amish garb. The store had the same outfit so I put it on the Dad too. The youngest son wore a suit!

One of my favorites was a 2nd generation character. He looked like a geek from birth and when he grew up, he became a ROCKET SCIENTIST that worked from home. Lol, and even mastered it.

I just had something weird happen. I opened my game to one of my families and the Dad was dying! I immediately closed that family and went to see my others. When I came back there were 2 dads on the bed rising up as ghosts. I shut it again, then 4 dads on the bed. So on and so on. Finally I gave up and let him die. I got 19 death notices for him! The mom is really depressed, but who can blame her? Her husband just died 19 times!

I just wanted to leave a tip to whom it may concern:
Always buy the career books/magazines even if your current people don't have that kind of career. It will remain in your tool tray and you may be able to use it in another generation. I have passed up so many chances to buy them from the store when they were avaliable.

They let you skip ahead to the next level on your career and give you a raise on your salary

Wow. That was interesting about your 3 year old with no parents. Poor little thing I guess would have died since it could not prepare a meal.

Also you talked about not having to wait for your person to walk all the way to the collectible chest or to the computer to sell an item and to just pick them up and it will happen automatically. Well, this trick will also work for taking out the trash, instead of walking all the way to the road. (I'm also an impatient person controller.) I wished it worked for socks and wrappers. Oh well...

I always come and read the new post while I'm waiting on someone to prepare a meal and I love to read funny stories or thoughts on the game rather than just request for help. I would just like to encourage more non-question post. If you think you got a cute post please take the time to share!

One of my families has started their 6th generation! It's a relief on the finances when the money gets piled up after so many generations. I've got all the upgrades for the house purchased and still $32,000 in the bank. I don't have to worry so much about how much money they make. And it's fun to start spending money on clothes. The parents both wear black shirts with stars on the front, and the kids wear black with gray suspenders. :D

I am really curious about something, has anyone had more than 6 children? For example if you have 5 children then next birth have twins or have 4 children then have triplets.
One of my families had 3 sets of twins!
ShhQ you said you had a ugly dad that looked like a geek, well one of my people married for money (so I could get the trophy) He was the ugliest person I have seen yet. He had red hair and it was a mullet and was wearing a yellow track suit...UGLY! LOL

VirtualVillagerLover May 23, 2009 10:11 PM

What does a bit weak mean? Help, FAST!

kristiana May 23, 2009 10:12 PM

does anyone know how long the baby stays with the mom? its seems like it stays with her forever.

VVLover no need to panic...
Make sure they aren't sick. That's what usually makes them become weak. Even just a sore throat will reduce their health strength if it's not cured early. If there is no illness, you just need to make sure they have plenty of good food and give them some time.

To Shauna:

The max number of children is six, so the game wouldn't allow twins or triplets that would put it over the max.

To Virtual Village Lover:

Being weak usually comes from an illness, but can also happen for no apparent warning. Two things that really help are fruit and vitamins. Other than that, just make sure they have plenty of food and get fed.

To Kristiana:

The baby is with the mother for two years, which is about four hours real time.

VirtualVillagerLover May 24, 2009 12:49 AM

Lolz, a kid was digging a hole to "China." Should i discourage it?

To VirtualVillagerLover:

No, that's actually the first step toward getting the trophy for praising someone while chasing gophers (#3 in the FAQ). :)

Anonymous May 24, 2009 4:34 AM

I put the tape next to the hose but now it won' let me pick it up to put it on the hose.

Fixing the hose

Not you have to fix it, but one of your adults. Place someone on the hose. Let another member of you family have a drink at the kitchen sink or clean the kitchen counters or prepare a meal - anything is ok, as long as they open the faucet and the kitchen water is running. The one at the hose will start to repair it

Greetings, Kayleigh

grinnyp May 24, 2009 7:12 AM

Jenna -

If your store has never refreshed there is a simple fix:

When you are in the store hit the "r" key on your keyboard. This will refresh the store and set it to refresh every 4 hours.

While I sit here stuck on 86 trophies waiting to accumulate enough socks/wrappers/weeds/dirt spots to get my next one I have become obsessed with downloading mods to my game. My living room furniture now has lovely maroon leather upholstery, I have house plants scattered throughout the house, and my patio furniture now has a lovely blue tablecloth. Why yes, I am spending entirely too much time playing this game. :-)

Anonymous May 24, 2009 8:47 AM

another way

watering flower boxes

after having the shed open and your hose working you can just drop your little one on the watering cans in the shed and they will automatically water them, instead of trying to do it by dropping them on the path

To grinnyp:

I tried what you suggested to refresh the store, but it doesn't do anything. :(

Hi..there's a sock on my fax machine and I cud not remove it.. haha

and my cat is scratching my sofa..;p

how do you get all those maroon upholstery, house plants scattered throughout the house, and patio furniture tablecloth??

Pam -

That's odd, it works just fine for me. You're doing when you are in the store screen, right?

A while back, someone asked if encouraging a child while playing cook, or while playing office, etc. would affect their future careers. I've been researching this for several days with all five of my families. I have to say, the answer is no.

Meanwhile, I am just ONE insect shy of getting all four collections complete! Here's a screenshot:

cybdonna May 24, 2009 9:44 AM

To Grinnyp:

How do you download those upgrades?

To Anyone else:

Again, what's with the red balls? I can't find the one in the backyard between the flowers. I'm dropping a character everywhere back there, am I doing that right?

cybdonna May 24, 2009 9:48 AM

On being weak:

I make sure I only buy organic foods after buying one round of regular food (to get the trophy). My families that eat organics don't seem to get as sick and weak. I also stock up on fruits and vitamins for when they get older.

Cybdonna -

About the red ball:

You don't get the ball by dropping someone in the area, you get it by grabbing the area with your hand/pointer, like you are grabbing one of your peeps. Put the hand/pointer in the area, click on the mouse and pull.

About mods:

You can go to the official game website (last day at work) and go to the forums. On the main forums page scroll down to the bottom and there are forums there with mods for the games. There are posts with advice for downloading and installing mods and posts full of screen shots of the available mods. I really like all the Lemora mods myself. However, be advised when doing this, make sure you backup your game image files first! These are fan generated changes and may not work properly.

cybdonna May 24, 2009 10:01 AM

Another funny dying story!

My female parent died and I looked for the male parent, but couldn't find him. But there was somebody in the shower. I assumed it was him, but he never came out. After a while, I checked Details and it showed both my adults were dead (they are greyed out when they die). So I think the husband may have died in the shower! Creepy! When I started the new generation with one of the kids, the shower was still going. I had to put her in the shower to get whoever was in there out. She came out of the shower and it shut off. Weird!

Also, a tip:

If you decide to start a new generation and you still have one parent in the house, make sure they complete a work cycle if their profession is either in the kitchen or the workroom. Otherwise their stuff is left on the countertop and you can't get rid of it. Eventually someone will decide to clean the kitchen counters, but it takes forever.

cybdonna May 24, 2009 10:03 AM

Thanks Grinnyp!

On the topic of the store not refreshing Did you manipulate the computer clock? When I was changing the time I found that my store was not refreshing.
Don't manipulate the clock just let things happen naturally

One other thing alway buy the bottle of rain. I usually wait till there are some kids in the family (seems to work better when there are kids around) then use it. I have gotten so many bugs that way and I used to have none.
It seems like there are more other collectables too not just bugs

Missy918 May 24, 2009 11:55 AM

HAHAHAHHA!! I just did the energy drink and vitamin thing when my adult was dieing!! It's cool! Now i have TWO if the same working on careers and the ghost will prepare a meal and shower etc!!! It's FUNNY!! Now my ghost is working out! I love it!!

Hi, all!
I wanted to make a comment regarding the questions about the patio. I think that when one of the people are enjoying the patio they are eating sushi! I can see a tea set before they use it. Then there are what seems to be chop sticks holding a little round thing while they are sitting...
What do you think?

I really think its a champane bottle but who knows

Anonymous May 24, 2009 2:54 PM

I keep trying to get the adults to pick up the keys under the welcome mat, but it's saying they're confused and they won't pick them up? What do I do?

The parents that I adopted have tried 4 times to make a baby after they had two kids, and all 4 times, nothing happened! no more babies. they are only 30 and 27 years old....

Regarding the Using the Patio...
I see chopsticks holding a piece of sushi over wasabi. But, it's what I would enjoy so that's what I see!

What do you mean when you say you are downloading mods I would love to do that if I knew how. Can you explain what that is and how you do it Please share I'm getting a little board with the game waiting on the chance to get a trophy. Sounds fun...Let us in on how your doing that!

About the key

You have to fix the doorknob first. You can find it in the children's sandbox. Drop your person on it and wait for them to go to the shed and fix it. Make sure you don't interupt them (like praise) When they are finished you should see the knob on the door. Only then you can drop your person on the welcome mat to get the key.

Hope that helps

Has anyone found a second red ball? Someone mentioned it a few days ago and I've looked but only have 1.

Also, one of my families has really lost the remote. It's not anywhere in the house, I've looked everywhere but it is gone. I've tried restarting my computer - any other suggestions?

I've enjoyed the comments here - this game really gets personal after awhile!

Sorry grinnyp!!
I missed the post where you explained the mods
(oh yeah congradulation on your collection Hope you get your last bug soon!)

Shauna - If you are running Windows check your Accessories and see if you have one called Snipping Tool. You can use that to get a screenshot.

I don't see that anywhere grinnyp but I was just going to take a screenshot of a mod house, I think people would like to see how beautiful it makes the house look with all the flowers, plants, rugs and ect. Maybe you could post it since you know how.

Shauna -

Here's some screen shots of the mods I've installed:

Living Room Mod

Kitchen Mod

Bath Room Mod

Bedrooms Mod

Patio Mod

Once again I must reiterate: If you are going to play with mods please be sure to back up your original image files! If something goes wrong and you don't have those backups to restore the game to the original settings you may end up having to completely reinstall the game, and that may mess up any games in progress. Play with caution!

Help! My mother is 56 and became "extremely weak" and i cant pick her up anymore (although she's still doing stuff around the house) and the dad became really depressed really fast. the kids all went to college. What can i do?

I bought the waterproof tape and used it on the hose but didn't put a person by the sink to get a drink before that. There isn't a puddle of water by the hose anymore but it isn't fixed cause I still can't use the hose to mix the wall compound and water the flowers. What do I do?

Stacory May 24, 2009 8:15 PM

I just started playing this 2 days ago, but what do you all mean when you talk about having numerous familys? can you have more than one?

Missy918 May 24, 2009 8:48 PM

Grinnyp, your mods are great! could you please let me know how you got them? thanks

Ariel -

When you try to water the flowers or use the wall compound what do you do? Do you get any message when you try?

Missy -

I got the mods at the Last Day at Work website in their forums section.

To Stacory:

Your question about multiple families is answered in the FAQ located at the top of this page.

To Angela and Grinnyp:

Thanks for the max salaries. I was just thinking that I should put together a list of jobs and salaries. That will be a very good start! :)

To Ella:

For weakness -

Give vitamins and fruit. Make sure there's plenty of food and that your people are fed. Time will take care of the rest.

For depression -

Give treats and praise often. Purchase upgrades for the house. These help make your people happier.

To Ariel:

Does the tape still show up beside the hose? If so, just follow the instructions in the walkthrough under the spoiler for Repairs.

Nothing happens. When I try to water the flowers I put them on the path by the window boxes but nothing happens and no message appears either. And I already bought the wall compound stuff and put it by the bucket, then I put a person by the compound and nothing happens either.

To Ariel:

Does the tape still show up beside the hose in the back?

Ariel -

To water the flowers:

You need to drop them on the watering cans in the shed, not the path by the flowers. See the walkthrough for more details.

For the wall compound:

You need to drop them on the green bucket, not the wall compound itself. Again, see the walkthrough for more details.

Melissa May 25, 2009 5:01 AM

Hi I'm just wondering is there a limited amount of genorations you can have or is it just as many as you want?

Also is there any way that you can have twins or triplets purposely?

To Melissa:

I think the generations may go on indefinitely. I'm on my six generation on one family and don't see any indication that there's a limit.

Twins and triplets seem to be random. However, it just makes sense that they would need to happen during the early stages of the family. I mean, if you've got five kids already, you certainly won't get twins or triplets because that would put you over six children and the game won't allot it.

How do you make your families watch movies? They watch tv together, but no movies. Does anyone know the answer?

To Metonto:

You purchase a DVD movie from the store. Give it to an adult and all the kids will come watch the TV with you.

Pam -

About the triplets, I think you're right. The only time I got them was a young couple on the first try for kids.

I have a bit of a conundrum. I opened one of my families and found a wrapper sitting on the desk in my office! Every time I try to drop someone on it to pick it up they try to fix the computer, get on the internet, etc. Help! :-)

Its very easy to get mods Go to the lastdayofwork website close to the top you will see forums. After you click forum list Then scroll all the way down to the bottom and you will see there you will see the mod forums. Remember to read the instructions first before starting It will tell you how to back up your current images so in case there is a problem you have a back up

Ok I'm ready to catch a ghost. My person is very old and I have the vitimins and energy drink. Do I have to follow him around and wait till he passes or can I just close then open later. Thoes of you that were sucessful I was wondering when you opened the program and seen that the person was laying on the bed did you pause the game? It happens so fast I just need some details.

Missy918 May 25, 2009 11:30 AM

As your person is dieing, wait until you see their ghost rise, then slam a energy drink down them! I closed the game when they were nearing 60, when you reopen it, u will see them lieing there in repose, you must do the energy drink before you get the death notice, move quick! LoL hope it works for ya! It really is cool!

Thanks missy I'll let you know what happens!

To grinnyp:

The only thing I can think of to get that wrapper is to wait until you get the random event for the cleaning service.

I love all of the Last Day of Work games! I am enjoying this game just as much. I prefer not to use the spoilers if I can get away with it - so far so good! I am still on my first family with one family member left at the age of 60 and healthy so far! I have 58 trophy's, 12 coins, 11 nuts and twigs, 8 picture pieces and 5 bugs.

I do have one problem though, my store has stopped refilling (it has been 4 days and counting). The only updates I am getting every so often for the store are the clothes; I have nothing else in it, it is bare except for those 2 items. Does anyone know what is causing this to happen?

Thank you for any help you can share.

LDW Keep up the great work!

Cheetos May 25, 2009 1:04 PM

where do i place the wall repair compound?

cheetos - wall repair compound

Place it next to the sandbox outside - next to the bucket

Greetings, Kayleigh

VirtualVillagerLover May 25, 2009 1:42 PM

WHAT THE HECK ARE MODS!!!! sorry, LOLZ i just really wanna know...

VirtualVillagerLover May 25, 2009 1:48 PM

im only on my 1st gen and all the kids are girls, and no twins, triplet etc. i evem used the baby thingymabob in the store! Their names are-
And lucola also the moms name is fabula notice all the names of GIRLS have an a at the end!! Weird huh?

VirtualVillagerLover May 25, 2009 1:51 PM

One more thing, how long do the kids stay in collage?

VVL: If you look 8 posts up from your post asking what they are, there are detailed instructions I gave missy.
Mods are short for modification files. They are image files that replace the original files. They can make a bed marroon or a couch burgandy and so on. There are many different mods that just change the way things look on your game. I love the change. It's pretty easy if you follow the instructions. Take a look at a previous post made by grinnyp. She made screen shots of her mod house to give you an idea of what they look like.
Give it a try, it's fun.

VirtualVillagerLover May 25, 2009 2:27 PM

There is no mod forms

This is the link to the forums

scroll all the way to the bottom where it says game mods
Then click on the virtual families mod
Follow the instructions on how to backup your file first!!!
Then enjoy

To Cher:

You have a bug. The cure is to tap the R key while you're on the store screen. It should refresh and get back on the four hour schedule.

To Cheetos:

You can also check the walkthrough located at the top of this page. Look under the spoiler for Repairs.

To VirtualVillagerLover:

Be sure to use caution if you decide to try the mods. Follow all the instructions that have been posted, most importantly the part about backing up the original images. Use the mods at your own risk because you won't be able to get any support for the game from the site you purchased it from once you've modified it. Sort of like voiding the warranty. :)

As for college, the kids stay in college for the duration until one of them is chosen to continue the new generation.
