SandWoman May 6, 2009 5:04 PM

Hi everybody...The child of my family has gone to Europe, but how long will it be? Will be back someday?? His image is still on the family tree.
Thanks!! :)

To Cece:

Please see my post two spots above yours.

To SandWoman:

I haven't had that event in any of my games, but one of our other team members mentioned it and it sounded like they never come back.

I agree. This one is not up to the LDW standards. I don't understand how they released it and have so many things to adjust in the program. My main gripe is there is no pause game button. There are days I can spend alot of time on here and days that I have only a few minutes to play. I guess with each game they go by the intake of ideas and gripes from people and hopefully, they will update the game soon. But once again, you guys are great on the help and the spoilers! Well, back to the game.

To Sue:

I'm not sure what you mean by "have so many things to adjust in the program." To my knowledge, the game is working fine with no bugs that I'm aware of.

As for pausing the game, just use the space bar.

grinnyp May 6, 2009 6:41 PM

I had too much time on my hands, so I put together this list of the 15 household upgrades and how the little people interact with them. These are not the workspace upgrades, just the house ones. 70 trophies and counting!

Lots of interaction:
Bathroom upgrade: The cheapest and the one they seem to like to most. Once you upgrade they are constantly using the towel warmer and the scales.
Pinball machine: They love this thing. Everyone plays it.
Flat Screen TV: Well duh! They already liked watching TV.
Radio: Fun to catch them rocking out to the tunes.
Paintings: Much to my surprise they are often straightening the paintings or admiring the magic fish painting in the kitchen.
Fish Tank: Feeding the fish, watching the fish, bothering the fish.
Birdhouse: They seem to like feeding the birds and calling the birds.

Forced interaction:
Treadmill: This one surprised me. They'll walk on it if you put them on, otherwise they ignore it.
Patio Furniture: Again, they never seem to spontaneously use this, only if you drop them on it.
Pool: Ditto with the patio furniture. This bugs me, I go to all the expense of buying them the pool the least they could do is enjoy it without me having to throw them in.
Barbecue grill: They'll use it if you drop them on it, and once in a blue moon an event will happen and it is barbecue day. Again, though, what's the use of buying it if they don't use it?

No Interaction:
Air purifier, box of tools, Sheets and pillows. Sure, they seem happy to get them, and the tools apparently make the repairs last longer, but otherwise they don't seem to do much.

[Edit: Grinnyp, please use spoiler tags when posting this kind of information. Thanks! -Pam]

grinnyp May 6, 2009 7:02 PM

No problem, didn't realize it was a spoiler. How's your family doing?

As for the "praising someone for making a latte" trophy:

If you look at the picture of the third kitchen upgrade, you will see a very fancy coffee machine on the counter. I have a feeling this upgrade is needed to get someone making a latte.

how do u get bugs?

melanie May 6, 2009 10:23 PM

I had "making a latte" turn up as a random event along the lines of practicing kung-fu, brushing hair and the like.

Pam, Hey. I said that wrong I think. I didn't mean there was any bugs in the program. I just don't think this is as good as the other games. It's still fun, don't get me wrong. I love all of the games they come out with. I just don't think this one is as good as their other ones.

Oh and Pam, thanks for the pause tip!

Is there a way to speed up the game? This takes FOREVER!!

To SarahB:

The bugs show up randomly in the yard like the coins and other things. They seem to be more rare, though. I've only got two or three at the most.

And, unfortunately, this game doesn't have a speed choice.

My wife and I are really enjoying this game. Unfortunately we can't seem to find a way to boost up their energy. They're walking around exhausted all day, what gives?

Sean & Leeanne

Grrrrrrrr, Don't they ever stay in bed? They are exhausted and I will put them there and they get up in few minutes. Anyone know how to make them stay there?

Can somebody help me how to unlock the shed? Where to get the knob to fix? Thanks.

[Edit: You'll find this information in the walkthrough section at the top of this page. Click the spoiler for household repairs, then click Repair Door to Shed. -Pam]

To Sean and Leeanne and Sue (and anyone else with energy problems):

This will be rather long, so I'm putting it into a spoiler.

I've struggled with the issue of energy levels since the very beginning, too. There is an energy drink that you can purchase in the store, but it's random and you'll only get one dose at a time. I've found that putting them to bed doesn't help, either. When they go to bed or take a nap, it's just that they are too tired to do other things on their own. However, they will perform a task at your command no matter how exhausted they are. Example: you can pull one out of bed to pick up a collectible with no problem.

Then there are times when I open the game and they have plenty of energy. The bar is usually at the mid-point, which is much improved from the night before. I can't tell what causes the increased energy except maybe some hours of downtime without playing.

I start buying the organic food as soon as I can afford it, hoping that it will help the energy levels over time. I'm also hoping that later generations will have more energy.

I know this really isn't much specific help, but maybe the information will be useful. :)

Hi Grinnyp:

My families are doing well. I've got two that are third generation, one that is second generation, and one that is first generation. The thing that makes me laugh the most is how the kids all look alike. In a family of six kids, three of them look identical. They're not twins or triplets, either. I'll get two blond parents with six red headed kids. Funny.

I have noticed that if you buy a hammock, they enjoy relaxing and the energy level increases some that way.

hi just started playing the game and it says there is a message to read and to drag person to computer to read it but she doesnt read the message im so confused already!am i doing something wrong???HELP!?

pls help me,,how do i repair the oven??

How do i open the shed i know about the door handle but my characters dont get that interaction when i place them there, do i need to buy something first?

CrystalM May 7, 2009 11:19 AM

Does anyone know how high the career levels go?

grinnyp May 7, 2009 11:24 AM

Hi Pam:

My first family is in late 3rd generation (they're both in their mid 50's and I'm now holding my breath that they live a little longer). 71 trophies so far, but I've had no multiple births or serious illnesses, nor have the latte, kung fu, fish behaviors shown up yet.

As for catching bugs:

Bugs, like the mushrooms in VV3, tend to come out when it rains. Either wait for a rainstorm or buy the bottled tropical rain (give it to a kid and they'll run outside and start a storm) and then search constantly for bugs while the rain falls. I've found as many as 5 bugs during one rainstorm.

One of my kids was digging a hole to china. Does anything need to be done? I had her fill in the 'gopher hole' and I used the scolding glove, but don't see this in the spoilers so don't know what else to do. Kids will be kids!

I love the site and the game is a neat hobby. Not meant to feel any voids in peoples lives. Any who, I have at least what I feel is an orig. question. What should we consider good & bad behaviors. Such as poking the plants, just bored or naughty? There have been several things that made me think. P.S. Just my gripe but I wish people would start at the beginning and read down so that they don't take up space or time retyping a question already posted.I'm not a jerk just seems like people expect to be spoon fed to much.

I have a simple question. How do you get rid of the gopher holes in your yard?

chiklitz May 7, 2009 12:02 PM

energy problems

i find if i dont pause overnight my peeps actually go to sleep all night and regain their energy to almost full. i check my game right before bed and make sure they have TONS of food (just in case!) and i check on them first thing when i get up. just dont try this if mom just had a baby (the baby will starve!)

children that "go away"

one of mine was chosen for some acting in Europe. they go away and dont come back, but you will have the option of choosing them to take over for the next generation!

hope these help!

KAJ899 May 7, 2009 1:04 PM

Door knob for the shed

is in the Sand Box.

[Edit: spoiler corrected. -eileen]

To Loola:

When you get the email notification, just drop one of your people onto the desk in the office area.

To Kath:

For the oven fire, check the walkthrough located at the top of this page. Click the spoiler for repairs and look for Oven is on Fire.

To Aimee:

Unlocking the shed -

Make sure you use an adult. Drop them on the gold doorknob in the sandbox. Then drop the adult on the welcome mat to get the key.

To CrystalM:

Careers go to level 8, which is Master.

To Sue:

Praise while chasing gophers is one of the trophies. The holes will go away on their own.

To SS7878:

I'll be putting together an FAQ soon, which will hopefully help with the repeated questions for the same thing. :)

As for good behavior and bad behavior -

Some of it is just personal preference. For example, I praise the kids when they play in the dirt because I like the noises they make. To me, bad behavior includes drawing on the walls, banging the dishes, and poking the plants. Good behavior includes dancing, studying/homework, playing train, and giggle parties.

To Chiklitz:

I never put my game on pause overnight or any other time and I've never had a baby starve. Has that happened to you?

To Pattie:

The gopher holes will go away on their own.

To Grinnyp:

Thanks for the tips about the insects. I'll give that a try.

I've been waiting 3 days for the tape to appear in the shop to repair the water hose. I've fixed the bird bath..i've brought paint to repaint what i believe is the workshop but i know i have to wash the workshop walls first but i can't do that because of the lack of hose!!

Does anyone know what i can do to get this darn tape? I can't progress much in the game without it!

Does the store refresh the items for sale? I can't buy the tape or the pump for the fountain, any ideas?

Can anybody help me? I tried to open the shed. I found the doorknob in the sandbox, but when I put one of my family members on the welcome mat, it says : Sees door key (or something like that..) and Confused, so he won't pick it up. Any ideas?

To Laura:

The tape will eventually show up. Those items all appear randomly. Nothing you can do but wait.

To Karen:

Yes, the store refreshes items once or twice a day. The tape and pump will show up eventually. They are random items.

To Julia:

Make sure your person got all the way to the shed with the doorknob and installed it before you drop one on the welcome mat.

Naps do make a difference to energy levels, but only if they are uninterupted. I think.

devlish May 7, 2009 4:35 PM

Every once in a while after I let one the kids dig a hole to china a gopher shows up and pops it head up along the side of the house by the sandbox, fountain, and hose. I tried dropping an adult on it. Is there some place I should drop them to get them to chase it?

To devlish:

About chasing gophers -

It's one of those activities they do on their own, like brushing hair. I got the gopher trophy by praising a child while it said "playing in the yard" and there were gopher holes present. I didn't have to drop anyone.

My father on the game just turned 63! Not sure if it's the timing but he went automatically weak after turning 63. And I just got the 50 trophies!

Yay Sue! My oldest so far has been 62. The parents in my families are now in their 50s, gray haired, and done having kids.

vv fan May 7, 2009 7:02 PM

Ok, so i bought the tape and put it at the hose but when i try to get them to get a drink they wont, i put them right at the sink but the just get a snack or start cooking can some1 help please?

Katherine May 7, 2009 7:54 PM

Hey All! I have noticed that "taking a nap" raises their energy. Drop your person on the chair in the livingroom and they will take a nap.

To VV Fan:

If they won't get a drink in the kitchen, try the bathroom sink. Either will work if you keep trying.

parrisfrance45 May 7, 2009 8:30 PM

Hi I'm having problems with my kids, they are always a bit blue or depress, what can I do to make them feel better. Please help I know they arent sick because it just say that they are blue.

It looks like Katherine is right! I let one of the children take a nap on the couch without disturbing him and when he woke up, he had half of his energy restored. Going to keep testing this.

melanie May 7, 2009 8:32 PM

I was wondering at what age the women will no longer have babies? I have a first generation couple in their 50s with no children. I tried everything, baby boost (only once), and they even both 'definitely' want children. Should I keep waiting for them to adopt or just start this family over?

Ok, it didn't work with the dad. He had a nap and no increase in his energy. :(

Melody May 7, 2009 8:37 PM

I made the cat run away! I kept clicking on it... apparently cats don't like that.

deborah rigby May 7, 2009 9:54 PM

the comment about twins coming in the 2nd generation isnt always my couple's first attempt at babies they had twins

Anonymous May 7, 2009 9:59 PM

How do I get the hose to work?

Here's a quick tip from me RE: baby making..

I find that if they start to "argue" i raise the red hand on them, and as they run off, i try to embrace them again - if they continue to argue, i repeat the above. Then, when they embrace, i praise them with the green hand - i continue to do this until "making a baby" comes up. Works a treat everytime. They may not make a baby sometimes, but if you do continue to do this it DOES work. I've got 3 kiddies from doing it!

Persistance pays off. Arguing isn't good, which is why i "tell them off" (so to speak!) - so when they embrace, i praise them.

I also praise them when they're in the bedroom and the woman starts to use rose petals and the man does a funky dance (lol) - this i find also helps with the baby making process :)

I wish my darn tape would show up!!

Anonymous May 7, 2009 10:32 PM

Re: Blocked shower

Go to laundry room and next to cupboard is a bucket with a feather and a plunger. Get a family member to pick up the plunger and they will unblock the shower.

[Edit: Spoiler tags corrected. -Pam]

To Melanie:

The oldest I've been able to have a baby is age 50, but more often they stop in their 40s. You can keep playing the game, though. It will just end when they die if there are no children to take over. Then you'll have to start over for sure.

To Parrisfrance45:

The kids (and adults) will increase in happiness over time -

Be sure to have plenty of food. Praise them when they do something good. Give them fruit and treats. Purchasing upgrades for the house also increases happiness.

To Melody:

I ran off the cat, too! It will come back. :)

To Deborah Rigby:

I don't see any pattern for twins yet. I'm nearing the end of the third generation on two families and have only had single births so far, even with baby boost.

To JIGuest:

If you're talking about the leaky hose in the back, please check the walkthrough section located at the top of this page. Look under the spoiler for repairs.

To Laura:

About making babies -

I'm able to get them to stop arguing without using the red hand. Just pick one of them up and drop again. Enough times and they will eventually try to make a baby. I'd be concerned that using the red hand too much could make them depressed and it's really not necessary. I've had plenty of luck by just separating them and trying again. Six kids in two different families! :)

My child is depressed and she is jealous about the new baby my parents made. Is there any way to make the kid happy again?

Thanks and I'm loving this game!

deborah rigby May 8, 2009 12:41 AM

I am starting my 2nd family and she had twins her first time also.

To PamPam:

The child will get better over time. Check my post right before yours about increasing happiness.

Did it actually say the child is jealous of the new baby? I haven't seen that.

Jasyrah May 8, 2009 1:32 AM

Does anyone know if the mother's health affects the babies health?? My couple had twin girls, both mom and dad are as healthy as can be. However, the girls health were only half per child. Maybe it's just a glitch. Just wondering.

I just had to share this with y'all. It's bedtime for one of my families and I found the pet cat sitting right on top of one of the kids while she's sleeping! Isn't that just like a real cat?!? Lol.

Just Like A Real Cat

does somebody know how you get them to chase gophers?

PamPam May 8, 2009 3:56 AM

hi. my 3 kids gone to college and left their parents alone. are they coming back? when?

I just want to say, I LOVE this game! I have all players going (5 families, that is) Some compare it to the Sims, well I never liked the Sims. That game was too crazy for me. This game is perfect for those who like raising families. One at a time. THUMBS UP on this game. Jazzi

Mandarina May 8, 2009 5:28 AM

Hello, I am also stuck, that tape is hard to find in the store, I wish the store restock more often if is possible, I cant advance in the game because the tape, by the way I've been waiting 2 days for the tape to appear in the shop to repair the water hose :(

Fixing the bird bath & repairing the floor it say in the walkthrough that you can buy a repair kit from the store to do these jobs but have gone to the store more than once & they are not there what do i need to do to get them .

Ahm. excuse me. Why I can't repair the holes on the floor? It says that I should click it beside the hole, but what my problem is, I can't pick my repair kit on the workroom. why is that? Pls. Pls. answer back

Jill-repair kit for floor

The repair kit has to be bought in the store and will be in your inventory then. From there you can easily drag it next to the hole :)

Greetings, Kayleigh

the repair kit is also called the "box of the tools and parts" right? I already bought it but it is place exactly on the workroom. I'm trying to grab it but It can't.really.I tried it a hundred times but nothing happened. :(

I've never had any of the family depressed from using the red hand - i rarely use it, but the red hand is meant to be for things like arguing because arguing isn't good for them or the relationship, so it stops them arguing when you try to make a baby again!

But yes you can just move them apart but they will still continue to argue so you'll have to keep doing it until they stop!

Jill - repair kit

No, the repair kit is called something like "floor repair kit" - it shows a few wooden planks and tape or something... as far as I remember (sorry, didn't played it that long, the floor kit was one of the few things i had ;)). And I could not place it somewhere else.

Greetings, Kayleigh

Melody May 8, 2009 9:39 AM

As regards the latte...

It doesn't need the kitchen upgrade. It's a random action they'll do as long there's dairy in the fridge. It's kind of cute, they get the carton of milk from the fridge and it says they're "making a grande latte."

Unfortunately, I interrupted him before I could praise him because I wasn't paying attention.

Melody May 8, 2009 9:50 AM

Also. I found that

if you praise them while they're swimming/splashing/playing in the pool, they will do it on their own. If it's sunny out.

To Meme:

About gophers -

I got the trophy for chasing gophers when I praised a child for "playing in the yard" when the gopher holes were present. They do it on their own, you just have to be sure to catch them doing it.

To PamPam:

The kids don't come back until it's time for one of them to take over the house for the new generation.

To Mandarina:

There's nothing to do about the tape. You just have to wait until it appears.

To Tonya:

The items in the store vary randomly and change every day. The items you need will show up eventually.

To Jill:

The tool box you bought for the workshop is considered a house upgrade and doesn't actually fix anything.

You need the floor repair kit, which comes randomly to the varied items section of the store.

delta dawn May 8, 2009 10:28 AM

How do i chase gofers ? I have one peeking out of a hole and i put my person on top but he just goes to off and does something else.

how do you get rid of the hiccups?

To Delta Dawn:

They chase gophers on their own.

Praise them when you see "playing on the yard" and gopher holes.

To Paiton:

For hiccups -

Have them get a drink of water in the kitchen or in the bathroom.

chiklitz May 8, 2009 12:54 PM

No deaths from it, but I have woken up to children with empty "fed" bars and "starving" in their info bar.

Jennifer May 8, 2009 1:01 PM

Help! My parents have died at age 61, the children have left for college. Is the game over or will one come back automatically? Is so, how long do I have to wait?

To Chiklitz:

Maybe the kids aren't being fed enough in general. The best way to increase their "fed" bar is to have an adult prepare a meal, then have the child sit down and eat.

To Jennifer:

Your game isn't over -

When the first parent died, you should have gotten a big instruction screen about what to do now that your person is dead. If you skipped reading it and missed it, here's what you do:

Go to the family screen. At the top, there will be a button that says "Next Generation" or "New Generation". Click that button and it will bring up each of the children and give you the option to adopt or reject each of them (like at the start of the game). Choose which one you want to inherit the house. The game then continues with that child as the new head of house.

I agree that this game is not up to LDW's usual standards; the biggest drawback is definitely (as has been previously mentioned) the fact that there is no way to speed things up (or slow them down, for that matter - you can pause it, but that's it).

To second what deborah rigby said, I also found that twins don't start coming in the second generation. My couple had triplets the first time they tried! It might have something to do with the fact that they both "definitely" want kids... that, or they're just crazy fertile.

I think this game is interesting, but I'm having trouble understanding some of it. They never go to work, they won't sit and relax, I've never seen them go to bed and sleep, I can't change the career choice so I'm stuck with my husband making $15 a day and my wife make $105!!! I don't get it. And it goes by so slowly that I seem to never have any money. I've bought groceries and some medicine and I've only got $70, how in the world am I supposed to buy upgrades and tools to continue the game. The tools alone are $1200!!! That's ridiculous. It's way too expensive to buy anything. Ok, I feel better and will go back to the game. I just needed to vent and ask some questions that noone else seems to have said anything about. Am I the only one having problems like these?

Grammie May 8, 2009 2:24 PM

I am new to this game and have a couple of questions. How do you start a second family? I don't seem to be able to leave this screen with my family.

Also, how do I get more money? Do I need more families in order to actually have more money to buy things from the store?

vivoula May 8, 2009 2:24 PM

so when all repairs are done what's the point of the game after that?are there any more puzzles to be solved?

Melody May 8, 2009 2:35 PM

For those who were complaining about store refreshes and energy levels, the problems seem to be fixed in the new update for the game.

shauna May 8, 2009 2:39 PM

I missed this question if it somewhere on this page

What are the ways to make money Is it "working on career"? I noticed that you can make money sometime when you find items that you can sell on the internet, but that and working on career isn't making very much money
Any tips anyone?

shauna May 8, 2009 3:26 PM

To Pam:
I noticed in your screenshot of the cat sitting on the girl while she is sleeping (by the way I thought that was cute as a button) It is night time. The sun never goes down on my game and I know several days have past because my girl is a year older than when I started... Do I have a bug?

My family is sick have tried all the meds that you can buy at the store what do i need to do ?

kaj899 May 8, 2009 3:45 PM

Why does it seem to be raining all the time? anyone else experience so much rain.?

To Julie:

You need to go through the tutorial at the beginning of the game. It should address all of your concerns. If you still have questions afterward doing the tutorial, post them and we'll try to help.

Colleen May 8, 2009 4:04 PM

Does Anyone know if the foreign candy does anything? I purchased it at the store. It has red, white and green stripes like the Italian flag. It doesn't say what it does when you read about it- it just says it does something. I have tried giving to my people twice now and both times they just run away. Has anyone had any luck with getting them to do something else?????

shauna May 8, 2009 4:26 PM

Please ignore the post asking about nighttime I read somewhere it will get dark when it is dark real time...
Thanks anyway!!!!

nahsimak May 8, 2009 4:27 PM

This is how I got my peep to live to age 65

I've found that you by changing the time on the computer you also change the time on the game.

I was able to get my peep to 65 this way. Once the reach age 60 and they are in perfect health and have high energy then the will go on to 65. An energy drink at this point seems to be effective.

[Edit: We strongly advise against changing your computer clock. Not only can it ruin your game, but it can also mess up other functions on your computer that rely on the computer clock. -Pam]

For 2 days I have been trying to figure out how to fix the bird bath as well as the holes on the floor. Can someone give me a straight answer, please? I love the game, but it is getting too frustrating! Thanks! :)

grinnyp May 8, 2009 9:57 PM

I just upgraded to the version 1.05 and yay, they are using the treadmill by themselves! Now let's see if I can get someone over the age of 62 . . .

So Pam:

The repair kit will appear soon?

Hi, Where can i buy the game Virtual Families here in the phils? :) I dont have any cards or what to buy the game, out of the country.. And i really want to own the game :)
I'm going to wait for your answers, thanks :)

To Shauna:

Working on career and selling duplicate collectibles online are the only two ways of making money. You will sometimes get random house events that give you a refund, but you can't control them. It just take some patience to let your people earn some money.

As for the sun never setting, the game is on the same time zone as you are. If you play only during the day, it will always be daytime in the game. If you play at night, it will be dark. You can also switch to the opposite by going into the options menu. (Oops! I just saw where you figured it out.)

I downloaded this game from bigfish games. I downloaded the updated version and the time is done and it won't let me play at all. What went wrong?

[Edit: If you paid for the game, you'll need to contact customer support at Big Fish Games about the problem. -Pam]

zue-anne May 9, 2009 12:04 AM

I'm really wondering how long until they will have another child? I tried to drag them vise versa. They said it's too soon.

And I don't see any waterproof tape in store.
Is that possible?
