I need help with level 9 can figure out how to get power and steam to the fridge

Reply

For those of you who can't get level 14 work: There might be a bug in Level 14.

The dropper which is supposed to knock off the 2 fixed fans, may knock only ONE off. If it happens, click the fixed fans several times(change their directions several times). This should fix the glitch.

Fun little game. Did anyone else have the game telling them that they took 2:02 minutes on every single level? Odd.

Reply

Well, I loved this game. I would, though, have liked to have seen some harder levels. The 15 provided didn't take me very long at all to complete.

Anyway, here's the level I made:

http://pastebin.ca/1314450

There are two solutions that I've found, and neither of them uses all of the items in your inventory.

Does connection speed play a role? I can't get past a very low level, even with hints, because it takes so long for any one reaction to even begin, much less cause the next reaction. And by not being able to place items while the power is on, I can't see a solution.

I'm on high speed wireless, but it's cable so is a bit uneven, and I'm using Firefox which can be really super slow. I'll try it on Opera just to check.

Reply

Woo hoo! Power of the post!

But I'm already stuck again...haha. This time it's just because I am in a hurry. This is a GREAT game. Thanks for bringing it to us.

Reply

I solved "Temple", but...

I didn't use any of the stuff in the lower left corner of the puzzle. Was that a red herring or is there another solution?

Reply
SkfyS Day January 21, 2009 1:37 PM

@Sarah@

No, the connection speed doesn't matter in game-playing. The reactions are designed to be slow. You can even see a laser beam "growing".

I'm using Firefox, too. No problem here.

Reply

@JIGuest

I see how you might have done that. I guess you

used the block to stop the bot moving the top-left mirror, and stopped the magnet in the lower left corner from working?

It's an alternative solution, but much less satisfying from an aesthetic point of view - the symmetry is gone :)

Reply

I gotta say I'm surprised that people aren't being more critical of this game. I had a number of problems with glitches, from robots running through barriers, balls not knocking off some of things they were suppose to and magnets turning around that made some of the puzzle seem impossible. I had to close out and restart it a number of times in order to "reset" it.

A good and fun concept, but sloppy execution.

Reply

One more level:

SHUTDOWN
http://pastebin.ca/1315178

It illustrates some strange effects of knocking out components with different timing. Almost like there's some cancelling of current going on? Or a harmless bug?

Warning: the level behaves differently each time you try it, giving you a variable window of time in which the correct solution *probably* will work.

I've made another level. This one should be even harder than the first, I think. All items are used.

http://pastebin.ca/1315519

The solution relies on something that shouldn't logically happpen, but it does happen every time. Unfortunately, the timing occasionally gets thrown off for some reason.

Hint:

If two bots are moving towards each other, when they meet, they will pass through each other, along with the items they're carrying.

In my previous post, I forgot to mention that the title of my first level was "Starter Engine". Most people probably saw that on pastebin. I titled this one "Gremlins".

Lovely little game, but I think the level editor would be much better if it allowed you to place components facing either left or right--this would allow to to first of all to construct a working machine, and also perhaps introduce some cunning misdirection

If you are going to update the game, I suggest trying to iron out the bugs. Some that I've noticed are:
-Items may flip after running
-Bots and the items they carry may not reset after turning power off
-Miscellaneous things not working(electricity stoppping mid-wire, items not detatching when hit by ball, etc), esp. while running on Opera.
-Graphical glitches when switching between editor and play modes.

The game itself is realy good,solid concept, but these bugs are really detracting from the experience.

@TSG:
Great game! Thanks, I've thoroughly enjoyed playing it and look forward to trying my hand at designing some levels myself--when I get time. :-)

If I may, I would like to make a few minor suggestions which I think would enhance the game:

1. As you've no doubt noticed, people like to give their levels a title, so it would be nice if the editor provided a titling function and the game were to display it somewhere at the top.

2. A reset button would be good, to start over again as if just entering the level.

3. It's quite difficult for an old-timer like me to remember which pieces I've placed--and are therefore moveable--and which pieces are fixed; so I spend half my time trying to move immovable objects! :-D So it would be great if there were some way to distinguish between movable pieces and fixed pieces--some shading around one of the sets, maybe?

Joe Fish's level code isn't working. Shazbot's level and Steam-Powered Train were pretty good. Nina's level is effortless.

P.S: I just tried "Steam-Powered Train", looked very nice but I passed just using only a magnet and the water dispenser.

Spoiler, thanks for your hint about using the ball to knock the blocks out of the way. Made level 12 easy, but just didn't occur to me.

I've just completed a new 'mini-level', as Neutral might call it. It's a bit easier and shorter than my previous levels.

"Familiar Signage"

{#0#%0#'0$(0"-0#/0#10#52%70#90#;0#z0"=0#?0"@0"E0"F0"I1)J09K0@L29M0@O0@Q29V22Z16]0@^1|_0"b2+d2|e0@g0?i0?j0Dk0?l0|m0?n0#o0?q1&r0|x09~&-3#!!~!2"2#.+.,(-+5+6B}

Unfortunately, it does have one small shortcut that I found. I couldn't remove it without either creating more shortcuts, or changing the level into something totally different. Anyway, it's probably harder to find than the intended solution, so I left it alone.

I too am stuck on level 6. How do I get the mirrors to point the *other* other way?

I'm also stuck on finding the walkthrough that is supposedly here. Jay, please don't tease us by posting commenting instructions and telling us it's a walkthrough! :)

I think there are slightly different versions of each level. My level 15 is different from someone else who put up a screenshot of theirs. In my level 15, there is a mirror one space up and one left of the power supply that I'm not able to move, but in their screenshot they've placed a laser detector in that space.

@LSN

There was a shortcut to pass level 15, I placed that mirror to block the shortcut, hehe

Why not just place a block where the bottom-left kettle is?

Tom,

Yeah, that's pretty much the same shortcut I found (I had the kettle and a fan on the other side of the 'G'). I don't know what putting a block in that spot would do, though. That kettle isn't neccessary to the solution where it is, as the preset kettle can supply the steam to power the 'G'.

It seems to me that the bottom part of the level is not the problem. At least, every way I can see to fix it from the bottom would change the intended solution. Also, I really don't want to put anything on the top of the level (other than the power source), just so it looks good.

I had to fix so many shortcuts with this one while I was testing it. Maybe it was because of the simplicity of the level. In any case, I'm definitely going back to making more complex levels.

Okay, TSG, if the bottom-left fan faces left on this version, you can't complete the level.
