Easy Gold without mineing (Build 2 lumber mills, General store, and a tradeing store then continue selling lumber for gold)be sure to plant lots of trees!!!

Reply

Stephanie - yes, the cave is in a later town.

Reply

JIGuest - about the well,

I think you have to get the messages earlier in the quest to have access to the well. did you open the chest in the locked enclosure that has the message in it?

the rabbit hole..

is the small cave/hole just to the west of your town.

Reply

Wintermoon - for the trading post challenges,

every time you do it, its different so I can't give you specifics, but my general strategies were to always build one lumber camp and one panning mine immediately with the two free citizens. i would add more citizens when i felt like i could sustain them. also, i'd collect resources until just before the time limit to get a head start for the next request, and try to keep wood and gold pretty balanced.

does that help?

Reply

Wintermoon, one more suggestion: build wells for water challenges, not water towers. Wells fill faster.

Sunken treasure ... UGH!! I have played the games four times and did what all the spoilers said in the order they said to ... It doesn't work, my hero will NOT go down the well. HELP PLEASE!!

Reply

Vic and JIGuest - about tossing coins and the generosity trophy:

to toss coins, drag a citizen onto the fountain. The trophy seems to be unlocked by having 10 separate citizens throw a coin.

Reply

happy2mother - Sunken Treasure quest:

First you must get the chest in the enclosed area in the north. The gate is opened by chopping down or blowing up the tree to the left of the area, which throws a switch. The chest contains a note saying treasure has been moved, and the location of the key.

Then go to the cave IN the river in the southwest part of the map. When your hero stands in front of the cave, a crate will appear, which you can grab, and contains a key.

Once you have the key you should be able to drag your hero into the well.

Does this help?

Eileen - thanks for the info re: tossing coins. I tried dragging a couple of people to the fountain, but there wasn't any mention about putting the coin in so I didn't think that it was working. now I know better! Thanks again!

Eileen ... thanks for trying to help me, but it's not working. That's what I did :( I am so discouraged. I blew up the tree, went in and got the last egg to finish that quest, then grabbed the treasure, grabbed the box with the key, then built the well and my hero just stands there and looks at it.

Reply

happy2mother - Hm, that sounds super frustrating. have you been getting the little popup messages about your quest progress? have you actually dragged your hero onto the well?

I have read through all of the comments and I'm going through the walkthrough. It seems like there's a gap between the "rescue the mechanic" spoiler and the " get the engine" spoiler.
I cannot figure out how to find the mechanic's workshop.
Is the mechanic's workshop in the first town?
How do you get to the second town?
Is there a prerequisite of buildings/ upgrades/ or luxuries before the 2nd town is introduced?
PLEASE help. I'm getting really ticked that I paid so much money for this game and cannot find the mechanic's workshop.

Reply

Wintermoon and chezza - about the trading post challenges:

I never needed to build a general store, but you could certainly try it. I just made sure I used every person, including the hero, very efficiently - always working at a mine or lumber camp, or walking around gathering resources. I usually tried to have at least 4 or 5 people for the last levels (up to ten, to get a head start on the people requests), and had one of them fish instead of building a farm (best not to build anything and waste resources unless necessary). make sure to gather resources even once you've reached the goal until the time is about to run out.

Good luck!

Kat if it is any help, I managed to go through haunted town without taking up the guys offer to buy the saloon. I was mean to my hero and sent her in to kill the bandits on her own. Get the hero to pull them away from their camps, then ignore hero who sadly might be dying repeatedly in the background, whilst you are busy dealing with other problems. Eventually Hero will kill off the bandits, and you have saved the money.

Reply

Cloverangel317 - have you saved the outpost yet? Once you've repaired the outpost you can set up trade routes..

Reply
Cloverangel317 January 30, 2009 8:00 PM

Yes - I fixed the outpost - how do I set up trade routes? It says complete "so & so" task first.

Also - what are considered Town buildings? I keep building (have a church, 3 stables, 2 ranches, 2 sheriff stations, 1 bank, 2 hotels and a bunch of cabins...) but it still says build 2 more.

Reply

Becka -- the #s on several of the eggs in the spoiler information are incorrect....the numbers are off by one or two depending on which you're looking for. I had to go back to a save point before the egg hunt and cross off each as I reached it to figure that out. Some trees have to be dynamited or cut-down to see some eggs, also.

Martin --

My approach to that type of thing is . . .

. . . to save in the middle of the building process. If it doesn't turn out the way I want, I reload.

Since horse color, type of citizen, and disasters are random, using the save method cheat can alleviate much frustration.

Cloverangel --

Another way to make gold is mentioned in the top post on page 8 of this thread . . . plant trees, build lumber mills, and build a trading post.

You'll have to complete quests for the outpost to open and function with trade routes.

Reply
Cloverangel317 January 30, 2009 9:53 PM

Do I need to establish a whole little town for the outpost gold mission? (ie, do I need to build a farm) or can I just keep fishing/ re-employing replaced citizens when they leave due to hunger?

Reply

Cloverangel,

On the outpost, I just worked on establishing what was needed to get stuff done. I believe, from my experience at least, citizens are more efficient (thus productive) if happy, though. And they'll stop working for a time being when hungry, pass out, then you have to wait for them to be replaced...so it will take longer. Matter of preference I think.

Reply

karen - you get the pirate hat by

I am stuck with the Haunted Town Quest. I went to the town, and then went back out, and now I can't get my hero to go back in there. Any suggestions? Eileen, Yes. I did. I exited it, to go back to my town, and now I can't get back in. No, I don't have it saved anywhere. I figured I could go back to it, like you can with the others. It doesn't show up on my quests page. Yes, I finished the other quests, and it says I still need 7 more votes. The only other thing I can think to do, is maybe get 7 more people in my town. But, I'm not sure that will work. I don't know what to do. :(

Reply

Melinda -
You do get votes for outwitting mcallister - have you done that yet? it might be enough - i would suggest keeping of save of where you are and completing that quest to see if it's enough, if you haven't already.

Reply

Eileen-

Yes, I've done all that. I did all of the quests. The only one I haven't done is the Haunted Town. I have no more people waiting for my help. The only thing that is left on "Outwit McCallister" is to get 7 more votes, and win the election. I have gotten the documents from the bank, the stallion for the stranger, helped all the surrounding towns. I have nothing left available. I just can't get back into the Haunted Town. I'm working on the Easter Egg Hunt right now, but, that probably won't bring me anymore votes. Thank you for your help. I guess it seems as though, I'm gonna have to start all over again. :(

Yes, I have even tried putting another lamp by the entrance. She will not go back into it.

Reply

I am on my second town where is the outpost that needs repairing, and how do I get to Earthquake town. Thanks Archie

Reply

Archie -
to get to earthquake town, just wait until a man named Paris Hilton appears - he will present you with the quest.

Reply

Melinda, it's my understanding from previous posts that if you have exited Haunted Town without completing the quest, you cannot get back into it. You will have to start over from a saved game point and redo whatever needs to be done again. That's why we save frequently, lol!
You do need to complete the Haunted Town quest for the final seven votes to beat McAllister. Wish there was a better answer!

Reply

Ok Eileen thanks for that guess I'll just have to wait for him to come, but where is the outpost is it the platform area by the track and what needs to be done, if not there where is it.

Reply

TY so much Eileen. I missed the first treasure hunt, one in first town so I guess I need to start over. BUMMER....

Reply

Archie, the outpost is the platform in the northern part of the map. You have to click on it, then click on the picture that shows it restored to repair it. Once you have that restored and staffed, the guy from Earthquake Town should show up shortly after.

I am trying to rescue the Baron Family. I have lured the bandit to the horses and the stew. I need to lure them to the wagon of dynamite. How do I do this? I can't seem to shoot the wagon.

Reply

callalili2000 - for the baron family rescue,

Did you put the stick of dynamite by the wagon? Actually I'm surprised the game let you do the stew part first. Do you have a save from before you started this quest, in case doing it in the wrong order messes it up? Or will it let you restart the quest?

Reply

Just so everyone knows..I went to another site for help, to double check, and make sure that I don't have to start all over. I was told to blow up the lamp post (both of them, since I had 2), and rebuild another one. It WORKED! I was able to get back in. So, if anyone else has this problem, there is your solution!

callalili2000 February 2, 2009 10:31 AM

Eileen, where do I get the stick of dynamite?

Reply

Callalili-

you can purchase it for 100 gold from your general store.

Reply

Callalili - actually there should be a stick of dynamite you can pick up on the ground near the wagon...

Reply

Becka,

If I remember correctly, unless they changed it, the numbers were wrong...so it would be the alcove above #12 or #13 actually. More of a slight indent on the cliffside than an alcove.

Is it possible you planted trees in that area? It is impossible to build on a site that would have eggs, but not impossible to plant trees where they might hide an egg.

Reply

Eileen, I did the horses and the stew and then blew up the wagon last, so I don't think you need to do them in any specific order. And the two dynamite you need is on the ground to the left of the hill the wagon is on, Callalilli.

Reply
callalili2000 February 3, 2009 5:32 PM

I am on gold barrels now. I have bought the gold dust, barrels, took dynamite to sites, but it still says that I have 5 barrels to go. So something is not right here.

Reply

callalili -
about the gold barrels and dynamite - can you say more specifically what is happening?

What should happen is that when you approach a red arrow, your hero wants to talk to you, and asks you if you want to place a barrel (if you have one available, that's filled). first the barrel appears, and then you can place a dynamite to blow it up, and the gold explodes everywhere. is all that happening, and its still saying you have five left?

How many versions of this game are there? I cannot find the HIDDEN SUPPLIES. I have blown up the rocks in the water and the rocks just north of them on land and am unable to walk through the arch.

Reply

Just as a general question, has anybody done any analysis as to how many workers on each building produce resources? And which type of resources are more efficient?

Obviously with Farms, Corn produces more food than Carrots, and Cows produce more meat than Chickens. But does anyone have concrete numbers? And how is it affected by owning a Mill? Is there a link somewhere? Has anyone done this already?

Reply

Gilbert Paul - what do you mean you can't walk through the arch? you can get to the arch, but you can't walk through it?

Reply

Evnafets --

I haven't noticed type of food grown affecting output at all. Output definitely increases by:

Number of workers
Windmill/smokehouse boost
High happiness boost

By the same token, low happiness will result in an output deduction. But cows and chickens, corn and cabbage are all the same.

Reply

Oh one more thing...

Running out of water will slow down output, also.

Reply

So I'm on my fourth incarnation on this game, under a new name. I am in the second town, working on getting the necessary votes for Jake, and I've exhausted all the gold mines and what's in the river. Am I down to selling wood and pelts to get gold now? Too bad the game doesn't allow us to re-seed the gold the way we can the trees. That might be something for the developers to think about for Westward 4!

Reply

laina: If you've mined all the gold on the map, then you are not able to seed new gold mines. However there are more alternatives than just trading.

Alternatives:
Hunting Animals - each pelt is worth cash if you have a tannery
The Outpost. Once you have completed the mission(s), you can set it to deliver a regular shipment of gold, wood or food.

@elle - Regarding different food production buildings - TRY IT!
From what I have observed (using sandbox mode)

With 4 workers on the farm, plenty of water, no mill, standard happiness.
Lettuce - 8 food
Carrot/Grapes - 10 food
Corn - 12 food

Similarly for Ranches
Chicken: 10 food
Pig: 12 food
Cow: 14 food
Ostrich: 1 food ?!?

Adding multiple windmills also gave multiple bonuses for some crops. Corn got up to +3 with 3 windmills.
The windmill bonus is also less effective with less workers. I'm not sure if the location of the windmill has any bearing on things, but I don't think so.

It takes a minute or so after you change over a farm for the new output to be updated (ie it only shows what it last produced, not what it will produce)

Of course this doesn't necessarily mean you should move all of your farms over to corn. There is a happiness bonus for each different type of food you create.

Reply

Hiya, I hope someone can help me! I'm on the "continue building your town" bit. I've made a huge error in not buying the dynamite upgrade and now i have no experience left to purchase it!! If only I'd read this tut before I started playing!
