I am stuck trying to "help out a neighbor town" to get votes. My problem is the bandits guarding the gold mines, I can't get rid of them in order to mine gold and actually build the hat shop or hire a sherrif.

I've already fired the mayor x2 and gotten rid of the wolves but now I am stuck. Please help? Thanks so much!

PLEASE PLEASE HELP
I have started this game so many times I lost count. I even have downloaded it again and I still have the same problem...in saving Redd's folks I have tired to shoot the water tower and it doesn't work. The hero points the gun it there but it does not it does not shoot. I have moved to all places and tried and nothing happens but the dialogue. So the game reads that but won't shoot. This doesn't happen any other time. Result I can't go any further. :( T.

I'm having trouble getting through the haunted town. Can someone give me hints on how to get through it?

Reply

Hey all, I have a couple of questions.

First of all, I can't get down the well. I've tried and reloaded so many times. I'll just wait till my 3rd time through with the 3rd hero.

I can't get the middle hat. Is it Pirate, and how do I get it?

Someone just said there's a bunnyhole in the water. Which town is this?

The bunnyhole in town 1 is just below Redd's little camp up north, downramp towards center, you'll see a baren wall with a hole in it.

To "help out a neighbor town",

you can use the mines when the bandits wander away to check the other one, and you can mine the two gold veins near them. There's a silver vein in the woods area. You can also sell food or wood at a trading post to make gold. Buy gunslingers and/or build a jail and buy deputies/sheriff. I just bought my 3 gunslingers.

There are only 8 bandits in 2 camps, and 2 wander at a time. So monitor both camps and take out the one with 2 in it. Then go find the other two walking. Rinse and repeat at the 2nd camp.

To bring down the water tower,

bring your force up the back ramp and as close to the tower as possible. You can shoot from there.

For haunted town,

build 8 tents, don't assign anyone to food, assign them to wood or gold as soon as they move in and stay on top of that for the whole mission.

Get the Saloon, buy your gunslingers, now you don't need to work here so go to gold or wood.

Next, BUILD A CHURCH, kill a camp, build a cemetary. . .3 times.

Your population shouldn't drop below 3, it will usually be 5, and when they get unpossessed, they'll all pass out from hunger. It's cool!

Haunted town.. I built about 8 tents.. mined as much gold and trees as I could. Took out the bandit camps 1 by one and built grave yards as I could.

Reply

JIGUEST You cannot drill through the canyon walls, You have to find a route around them.

Sue.. To get in the cave, you have to go to the right hand corner of the screen. In the north you will see a tunnel. Place a lamp post in front of the tunnel. Then you should be able to enter the cave to get to the haunted town

To hire gunslingers, you have to build a saloon and then buy the gunslingers. Or build a sheriff;s office and hire the sheriff and deputies. Hope these all help you out..

Now can someone please tell me why I cannot get down the well again? First time I played I was able to go into the well. Second time around, it won't let me. Please help. Thank you so much.

Yeppers Grace. Is what I tried but can't enter the cave. I even have 2 lamp posts outside of it. Maybe because I haven't done the Earthquake Quest? I don't know. Oh well. Thanx.

Reply

If you're walking into the tunnel in the upper left corner and getting the "too dark" message, then building a lamp post just outside and walking into it should give you the "investigate further" message. I was able to do this very early on, well before doing earthquake or many of the other side town quests. Maybe you have to do all the bounty reward quests first? I may have been done with those.

Anywho, I did find my answer and apparently I'll have to work on 2nd treasure AND pirate hat on my 3rd time through. Any suggestions on what not to forget before I get there would be appreciated.
*Must solve treasure 1 in town 1 first
*Must do treasure 2 steps in order
*Must harvest all fish in town 2(?)

You have to gather enough firewood to start the fire to rescue Redd's parents and then go back to the firepit.

brittsmom January 13, 2009 7:21 PM

I have a couple of tips:
When you have to rescue the Baron family, if you will keep to the edge of the screen, you shouldn't have a problem with getting caught. Also on the quest where you have to keep the fires going, I found when you first start off on the screen, don't trigger the quest and stay at the edge of the screen, you can collect wood and gold before you start the quest, which makes it so much easier.
Now I need help! I am at the end of the game, at the "Outpost Gold Mission" and I can't figure out how to get the second source of income.

Anyone who is trying to kill bears - you can have a gunslinger assist you and you don't die as much! :) I had two and we knocked those bears out fast! You can keep hunting to gain additional gold and food if you need it!
Thanks to everyone for the great hints. I have decided that this weekend I am going to scrap my game and start anew!

Grace --
First, build the well in the correct spot... Next, go open the gate to get to the chest, read note, go then to the tunnel indicated. Finally, go back to the well and you should get in.

Establishing additional source is the outcome of the quest. It will happen automatically after you do the other parts of the quest.

Any way to rid the drunks?

Reply

To Thomas:

To get rid of drunks -

If you have a sheriff, drop him on the drunk to put him/her in jail. Once out of jail, they'll be sober again and able to work. If no sheriff, you just have to wait it out. They stay drunk for a long time, but will eventually sober up. The way to prevent town drunks is to keep the citizens employed and happy.

OMG, this game is so addictive!!! I love this site, too. However, I am going nuts on the rescue mechanic quest. Not to mention, everyone starves until I build another farm. I am laying awake at night over this!!! PLEASE help. I have started over too many times to count!!!!!!! Thanks in advance.....

Reply

I beat the bandits by going on the offensive (finding their camps and eliminating them). Along with that, I hired a lot of gunslingers and deputies before leaving town for the quest. You can hire more than 3 deputies and more than 3 gunslingers by destroying and rebuilding the sheriff's and saloon, hiring the max, destroy and rebuild. If you can afford, get the weapon upgrades, too. Expensive perhaps but only if you don't have several strong gold mines and lumber camps. The Wanted Poster quests can help you get experience points.

PROBLEMS WITH THE WELL

As a lot of people complained about the problem, getting the hero down the well, It has been brought to our attention that there is an issue with the current build of the game, and the developers are working on a fix that is not yet available.

We will announce here when it is.

Instead, as a workaround and in the meantime, you can do this: You can load a previous save to correct the order in which you perform the tasks, so that you do not run into this issue.

I've only been able to complete one Trading Post quest and I don't know if it's the same one you need help with. It took many tries, for sure. Some thoughts -

If you complete one of the items before time runs out, go ahead and use the rest of the time to gather food or gold or whatever. Then when you get down to the last 15 or 30 seconds, go ahead and give the stuff to the trader guy. Don't build anything. I tried that and it didn't work. Just collect items on the ground. Have your employees chop the logs and mine the gold, while your hero hunts rabbits and deer.

Cheeza:

How much food can you carry? I can't remember if you can carry 20 or 25 but if you can only hold 20 then you need to build a granary. The trading post quests are hard to give help on because the specific map you play on is random (I think). I say that because I had to do many levels over and on the last one I actually restarted until I got a certain map, it seemed pretty random. As for collecting food fast, leave your two people fishing and have your hero hunt.
It helps if you save in an alternative slot the second you get into the quest and then you can look around the map to see where everything is then load your save and give it a try. Good Luck!

Bandit Camp for rescue mechanic . . . it's not always the obvious route. If you need to blow something up, your options are to either find TnT laying around or to build a store and buy it. Explore the whole area.

General quest tips:
Save your game often. Save after a sure-fire success; if not sure, then open a new save spot and leave open the option to go back.
First time into a quest, simply explore the area thoroughly. Then start over with a game plan. You may need to start over a few times.

There is a list of spoilers under "Walk Through" for very difficult or secret quests.

Explore and experiment and you'll figure most of it out. Play with objects, test things out. That's why this Westward is the best of the three: way more to explore and play with and build.

Sometimes it's better to hold off on starting a quest or going off to a new town. If there's time to save up resources and hire a bunch of lawmen and gunslingers, do it!

Reply

Trading Post Quests:

You need to talk to the guy to give him the requested stock, it's not automatically registered. Build what you need, don't worry about the rest. Try to anticipate the next item requested, but don't pick up more food than needed. If you need more of something than you can carry, build what is needed to provide storage space.

Highlight hero (or citizen) and right click the flowers. They change from yellow to red, red to purple, purple to white/blue, then back to yellow each time you click on them

To turn the platform into an outpost, left click the building and then the picture and description will appear at the bottom of your screen. There is one button there before you upgrade it. Click that button if you can. That is how you change it. If you can not click the button, it means you don't have all the resources. Keep your mouse on the button for a minute without clicking and a little info box with show up just above that telling you how much wood and gold you need. I believe it's 140 each but I could be wrong so check it out. HTH GL

JIGuest - If you still need help drilling through canyon walls.

Your Hero can't drill. You need to move the mechanic to each "wall" or rather the wood with a boulder in the middle. Once he is in the right posistion the drill will appear and he will get through, then move your hero & posse through the opening to kill the bandits. Repeat with each "wall".
Also, other people had trouble drilling the bank:

Move the mechanic to the side of the bank, not the front.

Hope this helps!

Then I go to the first guy and to the bank to get the mechanic. I employee the lady at the store and the guy at the farm. Then, have the hero build 3 tents so one can work at the store, 2 at the gold mine. What am I doing wrong?? Treasure and well problems

I had problems with the treaure and the well, but I finally got it. First blow up the tree to open the gate to get the chest, then go to the little cave in the river (not where the sunken cabin is, where you pan for gold in river), pick up crate that appears at entrance to same cave, build well in middle of blue rocks, then drag someone to the well. I missed getting the crate from the cave thats why I couldn't go down the well.

Midgetta-
Starving Town with Two Farms

* Food production needs to meet the demands of your work force. Look at how much each farm is producing compared to the food being used by chopping, mining, etc.

* Do what you can to increase production before building more farms. If you have extra workers, put them on the farm instead of other places. It may work out better to have only one person at a wood camp, instead of three, while you have four people at a farm.

* Have your hero fish (click on hero then right-click on fish in the water) while you have an employed citizen gather berries, if they're around, until your food stocks are full. Since the food supply fluctuates, if you have 10/40, that's not enough to feed 14 citizens, so some will get mad and eventually leave. If you have 40/40, and it dips to 26/40, it should regenerate before someone gets mad.

* Higher town happiness will result in greater efficiency and make citizens more willing to put up with poor conditions. Open the town stats page (click on icon next to the happiness meter) to see what is raising or lowering your town happiness.

Also: there are a lot of great tips in these comment boards. Playing around with things, and sometimes a restart of the game, will help. I save my game a lot in case I have to go back to correct a mistake.

Justme --

Maybe you're experiencing a bug. That part of the game was a couple weeks ago for me, and I don't remember having any problem getting into the bandit camp. Yet from what I recall . . .
.
.
(semi-spoiler?)
.
.
... you don't blow up the gates. There is either a key, a triggering event or a "back entrance".

I can't remember which side quest, but in one, I reached the bandits by going around, past their gate, and found an alternative route to reach their camp.

In another area, I had to talk to people and put together clues which eventually resulted in an event which brought a couple bandits out (thus opening their gate).

And finally there was another in which I found a key.

Maybe you need the dynamite to reach the back entrance or to get to the key?

I suppose I'm not the best person to help on this one... Does anyone else have some suggestions to help?

Chezza,

Here are some Earthquake Town tips I've borrowed from other sources... They were very helpful for me!

For high town happiness:

It doesn't matter which specific buildings as long as happiness is high, but I made sure everything was in good repair and I had:
a couple hotels, no tents, several cabins, one farm, one ranch, one windmill, a sheriff (with hired sheriff),a blacksmith, a store, a church, a sawmill, two gold mines, one lumber camp. I may have stuck in a couple flowers, too (fountains aren't worth the cost if you're looking to raise happiness...)

If you need to raise happiness, a sheriff and hotels, as well as food varieties really help.

For successfully finishing the earthquake town quest:

Someone else suggested saving the game often and going back to previous save if you get an earthquake.

Putting out fires and repairing fire damage is easy enough... just don't build too close together and build in such a way that there are nearby wells.

But earthquake damage is across the board and can be great. Maybe some machado out there can keep up with repairing after earthquakes, but for me, it was much much better to just reload to a point before the earthquake.

Because they're randomly generated, you can avoid earthquake damage completely. By doing it that way, I was able to rack up a good amount of resources and finish the quest quickly.

There is some amount of experimenting, as well, to find the technique for generating resources that works best for you... that's the fun part :)

Genniel (and others tree to cross bridge to reach bears, big tree, or hillslide treeless area...) --

It sounds like you haven't built your own bridge... Characters can't walk on the traderoute/railroad bridge. Go just south of the waterfall and build a bridge there from east-to-west.

A bit annoying to have to walk all the way around, but that's all that can be done. To make it easier, I built another bridge in the southwest corner of the map, from north-to-south.

Earthquake town quest? You bet. I spent literally hours trying to get anywhere in it...spent all resources on repairs so couldn't advance. So I -had- to use the save method...three save slots going, saved about every minute or so, especially after something significant. Another hint by the way...

Call it a cheat but for random things, I like to tip things in my favor.

So when I built tents so I can have someone to man the gold mine, I saved right before the tent was completed. Then I reloaded until I got a prospector...got the Prospector Trio trophy during this quest.

Did the same thing to get a lumberjack.

The time spent reloading until I got the desired result was paid back when I was able to complete the quest quickly with plenty of resources at hand.

;-)

I like puzzles to figure out, but not so much the frustration of rebuilding something destroyed by disasters and bandits. Outwitting the game mechanics seem to be a way around those types of things.

Janemac, look back to the list of spoilers posted by Pam and Kayleigh for help with the silver ring. Refer to that list frequently, as we all do!, cuz it's a lifesaver!

Can anyone help me with the Indian Headdress hat. I have completed everything but the train ride to the election, and the sandbox quests. I can't find anything about receiving the hat, in the posts.
Thanks for all the Hints. I made it through the whole game before finding this site. Not realizing how much I missed. After restating and playing everything over I'm stuck on a stupid hat!! HaHa!!
Please Help!!

Rusty Bucket . . .

has no gold deposits at all. You need to sell food and wood to get enough gold to buy 5 barrels from the miner (50g ea) and 5 sticks of dynamite (100g ea). You'll need a trading post and a general store.

Easter Eggs

The hardest one to find is behind the big tree near the blue stones. Hold both mouse buttons and use your arrow keys to rotate your camera. You'll see the egg. Blow up the tree to get it.

The next hardest is in the river, as far up as you can go. If you built your bridge horizontally to get to the bears, you'll have to blow it up.

There's also one where your lumber farm probably is. Near the start, where that girl was stuck under a log. Again, rotate camera to find it. It may be covered by your fresh grown trees.

There are AT LEAST three in the woodsy area near the train tunnel. One in the pond, one behind rocks and one behind an old log.

I think there's one behind the lumberjack in the upper left corner, again may be covered by your new trees.

One outside the treasure area. One inside, next to the treasure chest.

I can't specifically think of any more. Check nooks and crannies of rockfaces, and behind trees along the river.

Hello! I have a problem with the Drill Documents. After I got the drill machine ready and returned to the city, I probably safed the game to quickly. Now, Redd Baron asks me if I'm ready to get the Drill Documents, but nothing happens. I know that this exclamation mark should appear so that I can accept the quest, but it won't. What can I do? Help would be much appreciated!

HELPFUL TRADING POST TIP:

This may seem obvious but it took me a few quests to figure out the best way to do them. Some requests can be completed fairly quickly and I had a lot of the 3 minutes letft over. USE THE FULL TIME. If you need to collect 300 gold in 3 minutes and you do it in 2 keep harvesting the gold and maybe get a jumpstart on another quest (start building wells or graineries etc). Only bring the requested goods to the trading post guy when you have 15-30 seconds left.

To plant the trees, kill the Black Bears, and chop down the monstrous tree:

I built a bridge where I placed my first pan gold mine in the river(after it was drained). It's very close to the out of bounds area. Then I was able to build a woodhut next to the tree, and employ someone. I walked up to the man who wants you to plant trees, I planted twice up on the hill behind him, where it's kinda obvious there are problems up there. That's it! He said to do the outpost, and that's below.

For the outpost:

As for the outpost, I built another bridge north of the second gold panning mine in the river, and blew up the rocks to get up the hill. Then you just walk up to it, and click on it. You have to have 140gold, and 140wood to upgrade it.

Mining the Silver Ring:

As for the silver mining for the ring....there is a large wooded area past the bandits( that I still can't kill). There are silver rocks up there that your hero can mine. You will have to have a Blacksmith built. Mine the shiny silver rocks, and you will send the ring to be forged to the Blacksmith...very quick process. Then he won't like that gift either, so on to the white bunny. (Still looking myself)

Hope all of this helps!

For exiting the maze:

There's a red arrow that you must make your hero and Redd go to after you exit, just north of the exit.
