Has anyone had the hay fever pop-up yet? I've had it twice in one of my villages. The first time, I only had about a dozen peeps, and it was pretty cute. The second time, I had over 100 villagers, and it was hysterical!
darkfae - Merely downloading the new version will not accomplish anything, you need to install the new version to the same location as your original game.
But I would highly recommend backing up that directory before doing so.
ok, so now you will now that i'm not the sharpest knife in the block. how do you do that? i thought by downloading it, it was installed. ;(
p.s. i'm on a mac if that makes any difference
Well, you're lucky then, because Macs are so much easier to use.
When you download a Mac game, it generally comes in a .dmg file (which stands for disk image).
When you double-click that, it "mounts" the disk image and opens a window that contains the game icon, and you can then drag the game icon to your Macintosh HD.
You need to drag the game icon from the disk image to the same location where your older version is located.
For example, it is always a good idea to use the Applications folder on a Mac to store all the applications you download.
I have a folder inside that called "Games", and that is where I put all the games I download.
I can't help you beyond that because I don't know where your original Virtual Villagers game is located on your Macintosh HD.
Hopefully you're not playing it from within the disc image.
Thanks for all your help. i'm trying to go by dates on the various places to find it. when i finally put it where the original is, do i delete the original, delete anything? i'm getting a headache! but i SERIOUSLY appreciate your time and help!
darkfae - by drag-dropping the game icon over top of the older one you will replace the old one with the new one, so there's no deletion necessary.
One step, that's all you do with the Mac. Very elegant. Very easy. :)
Well Jay, again thanks for your help but it appears that i am officially an idiot. My original game can only be found on the desktop. I'm just trying to figure out if i can reload? reinstall from game site or just shut up, bite the bullet and start over. Well two things are for sure. in future only buy games from here and make sure to install and not play from disc image. Waaah oh well.
darkfae - your desktop is a "folder", too.
Macintosh HD -> Users -> (your Mac username) -> Desktop
So, if you just drag-drop the game icon onto the desktop, that *should* replace the old one (provided they are named the same and that's where you are playing from).
If you are playing from the disk image, then you should be able to replace that one by drag-dropping the new game icon over the old one.
It's really the same no matter where the game icon is.
1) Open the new disk image.
2) Drag-drop the game icon over top the old one.
3) Click "Replace" in the dialog that comes up ("An item named Virtual Villagers - The Secret City already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?")
It shouldn't be difficult to do.
Has any of you gotten the crystal and the evil twin? That one is pretty funny.
My original village is still going. With the magic faction and two collections completed my max population is 110. Has anyone completed more than 2 collections? Can the max go higher?
Hi, does anyone know how to train Builders?
i've finished the lift, all the huts, the bath, the rubble and the leaves,
I need to train more builders since my current ones are old and nearly dead, which will mean i cant finish the statue!
I have a villiger that has 4 outta 5 mastered.. but I need the parent one. Its a guy and he is an adept parent. Does anyone know how I can get more parenting in. Or should I do this with a girl? The male is 51 already. Thanks in advance :)
About training builders -
You can train builders by having them repair the huts.
There is also an energy potion that will sometimes increase building skill. The potion is Black Orchid + Tiger Lily + Cactus.
Train as many builders as you can because the statue is a big project. It can handle up to 15 or so builders.
Good luck! :)
About gaining parenting skill -
You can do it with a male, no problem. If you have a female over age 50, she won't have babies. You can drop the male onto her over and over, without waiting for them to go indoors. When you hear the kissing sound and see at the bottom that the villager improved at parenting, that's as much as you have to do. Separate them and immediately drop him again.
He can also gain parenting skill by telling a story to a child. Do it the same as with the female... drop him on the child and as soon as you see that he improved at parenting, pick him up and drop him again.
I was able to get a master in all five trades by doing it this way. Age 51 should give you plenty of time to get that last master.
ok thank you very much i feel much better now
I have one village with all collections completed, magic faction. My max population is 120. That's a LOT of villagers in that little space. It's looking sort of like an ant hill.
How can you get your villagers to live over 75 years?
To get older villagers -
Villagers tend to live longer after you purchase levels 2 and 3 of Medicine. Plus, general good health helps. Heal them when they are sick, make health potions, train doctors, etc. As you progress through the game and solve the puzzles, your villagers will live longer.
I too am having the problem with the statue being stuck at the top of the path and I saw a comment about downloading a patch. Where could I get a patch? I won't be able to finish this game if I'm not able to finish this puzzle. Please help!
Check to see which version you have. The corrected version is 1.00.04 (it's in the bottom left corner of the menu screen). If you have the earlier version, you'll need to download the game again from the site where you originally purchased it. It should load on top of your existing game and save all your progress.
Ah, I see. I do have version 1.00.02. Although I didn't buy it from a game site, I got this game from a friend and I don't know where she got it from. Do you have any other suggestions on how to get a patch?
Jay, do you have any advice for Kandi's problem?
This is both advice and a warning based on a mistake I made:
Be careful when going for your Jack-Of-All-Trades
I made the mistake of leaving the Parenting box checked on the character that I had chosen to be my Jack-Of-All-Trades.
If you use a girl you either have to wait 120 min every time she gets pregnant or wait until she's over 50 to have her master the parenting skill.
I chose a male that way he could parent all he wanted without getting preggers. I was clicking him and dropping him on a woman who was over 50 in order to have him become an expert sooner. However, I got distracted and left my computer for 15 min, with out unchecking the parenting box.
When I got back all of my women (excluding children and over 50's) were pregnant. That was all of my scientists except for one and a bunch of my builders and farmers. This set me back quite a bit as I had to wait 120 min to continue earning the tech points I needed.
My warning is to pay very close attention to your characters if you check the parenting box.
I got my master builder to build the statue.
Then he made the pearl.
But my tribal chief won't pick it up.
It says she doesn't have the skills...
hey just to let all know the correct way to get 2-3 children pick up the same item or mushroom:1st step is to pause the game by hittnig your space bar 2nd step:put one child on or as close to the item :3rd step unpause and pause again instantly:then put another child on the same item .repeat step three put another child on item then unpause again if done correctly all three children will pick up that item hope this clears up some confusion
About the pearl -
A Master Scientist has to polish the pearl before the Chief can pick it up.
Thanks for that tip! Now I can pick up multiple mushrooms and collectibles for the first time in this game! It will sure help with food and tech points.
I have seen somewhere in these comments that someone has increased their tribe to 72. I cant get past 35--it tells me that there isnt enough housing. No where to build any more huts--have all levels of tech---any suggestions?
There are a total of three huts to build for housing. The third one is just a foundation that looks like a pile of rocks until you build it. You won't be able to get beyond a population of 35 until it's built. Here's a screenshot of it:
Quick question regarding the Chief & the rare collectable: When he points it out, where exactly is the collectable? In the direction he is pointing or any where on the map?
About the Chief and the rare collectibles -
I've been trying to figure out that very thing! The rare collectibles can show up anywhere on the island, in all the usual places for collectibles. It seems like the Chief points a couple of different ways and I've had pretty good luck following either left or right depending on how much the Chief is turned when he points. As soon as you see the rainbow above his head and hear the gong, start looking immediately. They don't last long.
Yea! It worked! Don't know why it didn't the first time... ;-)
I finally got enough tech points to get level 3 leadership and building... by the time I got all that done I didn't have any builders to start working on the statue... everything has been built and I can't train builders... what do I do? Anyone, please help if you can.
To Lt Dan:
If you've built everything else, you can train builders by having them repair existing huts. You'll need a Master Builder to draw the plans and to build the scaffolding, but after that they only need to be at least a Trainee Builder to work on the statue. Train as many as you can, up to 15 or 20.
does anyone know at what age I should start a lady having babies to make her a master parent by age 50?
hi, just wanted to ask if anyone knew how to save the game, cause my people won't really listen:), so i wanted to save what i've done so far....just incase...thanx=)
The game doesn't have a standard "save" function, so to speak. The game just continues. If you close the game, your peeps just go on with what they're doing (unless you pause), and when you start the game again you can see their progress (or what sort of desperate situation they've gotten themselves into). If you're thinking about backing up to the last time you started the game, it just doesn't support that function.
I'm afraid that's not very helpful, is it?
For Fiona - about achieving master parent status for female villagers:
Believe it or not, I've actually taken notes on this (it's the cultural anthropologist in me). I'm sure you've noticed by now that different villagers have different learning curves. Some pick up skills very quickly, others learn more slowly. Watch your 14-18 year old females, put them on different tasks, and try to identify one that learns quickly. If you're really lucky, you'll have one that likes learning. I've had about a dozen females achieve master parent status, and it has taken me anywhere from 11 to 15 parenting sessions to achieve this, so that's anywhere from 22 to 30 years.
Another point though, your females can still improve at parenting after the age of 50. They can still "go inside," even though they'll produce no offspring, and they can tell children stories.
Hope that helps!
If you post the specific problems you're having with your tribe, I'll try to help you.
I have only found one tablet piece, and that was after the rubble was cleared. Are the other pieces scattered across the island somewhere. I have look and look for days and don't know where to find anymore. Thanks in advance :)
The tablet pieces will continue to show up randomly in the same place that you found the first one. It will take awhile, but they will eventually be there.
Hi Jay, you were right. But...I got impatient and started a new tribe by the time I got back here and read what you said i had already put the new game over old and oh well lol! Thanks for all your time, patience and help!!! It's all good tho, I kinda like my new tribe better. Good thing huh?
Well, I'm glad you're happy and back playing again. :)
help me! How can I train builders? all the huts are made and all my builders have died and I have not finished the statue!
To trysh olives:
You can train new builders by having them repair existing huts. There is also an energy potion that will sometimes increase building skill. The potion is Black Orchid + Tiger Lily + Cactus.
thanx a lot pam!
You have great tips! But i have a problem...... I can fix the statue if I get enough tech points, but I'm afraid my builders will die because some of my villagers ( including the Chief) are in their sixties. I am trying to get my 2nd hut fixed, and I just bought level 3 alchemy, IDK what to do about the statue! Please help. ~ Alybd
About builders -
You just need to train some young builders. It's a good idea to train as many builders as you can. The statue can use as many as 15 or 20 builders. The more you have, the faster it will go. The huts can be fixed over and over again, so you should be able to train whatever you need.
what is the potion that make them mate/have more babies? please help i have 4 and near done with the game but they keep dieing and wont have babies. the other problem is they wont start working on the statue. they keeping anrching it but wont build. the plans are drawing and everything.
how do i train farmers when i dont have honey, or fruit? how often does it rain?
About having babies -
Villagers will have babies if you are persistent. You don't have to wait for them to "go indoors". As soon as you hear the kissing sound, they are done. Keep dropping them on each other until you see the population counter go up or the female is holding a baby. The fertility potion may help. It is Cactus + Rose + Rose. Note: Females will not have babies after they reach 50 years old.
About the statue -
You have to drop the Chief on the statue first or nobody will do anything. You must have trained builders to work on it, at least Trainee level. The more builders you have, the quicker it will go. The statue can use up to 15 or 20 builders at a time.
About Farmers -
Honey and fruit will regenerate, but you also need to get rid of the sharks so you can fish. That will be your unlimited food source. If there's nothing to harvest, you can't train farmers, but you don't really need them until there's something to farm.
About rain -
I've seen it rain about every 20 or 30 minutes, but other times it's longer. Just like in real life, you can't predict the weather. However, one of the puzzles that you solve is for a weather dance. :)
How to make sharks friendly
The spell is, Pitcher Plant+Black Orchid+Black Orchid Then make villagers take Vials to ocean
How to make sharks friendly
The spell is: Berry+Rose+Rose. Then make villager take vials to ocean (it will say when they test it 'takes to ocean')
my population count is up to 110!!!
I have read through every comment and saw 1 post with a similar problem but there was no reply to it.
I have several villagers (middle aged and multi skilled) that are stuck in the ocean just outside of the playable screen area. If I use the map view I can see them there but when I go back to the play screen they are just outside of reach. They won't return.
These villagers are many of my trained builders that I need to help repair the statue.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
How did your villagers get there? I can try to recreate it with one of my tribes and see if I can figure anything out for you.
I am not sure really but I believe that they were out there fishing and I can't check them now as they died.
To make matters worse my male parent went on an impregnating spree While I was away from the computer for about 30 minutes and I now have 14 nursing women. I am left with only a handful of working builders. Something tells me this is going to take awhile.
Woah, sound like you have a problem. But I have one tip (if you didn't already do this)
If you go to menu and click options, then click fast, the timing will go faster. If you have it on slow it might say Nursing For 400 mins. But if you put it on fast, it will be about 120. But get your handful of builders to get to work as much as they can (researching, studying medicine, etc.)
I hope this helps.
Part of the challenge of this game is the fact that villagers will act on their own sometimes. You'll be able to get more builders trained eventually to finish the statue. Those 14 new mothers should be enough after they are finished nursing. :)
I've been playing for a couple of weeks now and still cannot find 1 feather and 1 turtle shell. I'm not sure if I am missing them or not don't know what too look for can anyone help me
The turtle shell and feather will show up eventually in the usual places. It's random and you just haven't been in the right place at the right time yet. :)
I've read that the chief can procreate without having another member of the opposite sex. Anyone know how to do this?
The chief has special powers, but that's not one of them. They can produce children just like any other villager, but not alone. :)
I come here rarely, so there's little point in getting an account, but I've used the walkthrough tips on occasion and would like to add something to pay back for the help. :)
I've seen some comments regarding "doctors won't help weakening villagers" and the answers usually deal with "get higher medicine level", "get the aromatherapy puzzle" etc. So I think I can clarify here.
Doctors won't help a villager who is "weakened", no matter what their skill level is. Doctors only help villagers who are "sick". To help weakened villagers, mix a potion and have them use it:
either 2 Cactus and 1 Lotus, or 2 Lotus and 1 Cactus will help a lot (about 1/2 the health status bar).
Also, never try to have the already weakened villagers make the potion for themselves, as potions can blow up any time. Use a healthy villager, anybody at all.
Another thing, for things that don't succeed: matching up certain males with certain females, trying out certain potion mixes that blow up several times, etc. - simply keep trying. A pair may run away from each other many times, but if you just keep putting them back together, it will eventually work out. ;) Some potions WILL blow up more often than others, but try enough times and those will work out too.
PS - Jay, if you think anything I've left out of spoiler tags should be in them, I'd be fine with having it edited. :)
To Pam - Thanks. Darn it. I saw 5 different cheat sites that said the chief could (but I think that was when there was no males) but none said how. My daughter's tribe is down to 2 males and I was hoping to save it. Thanks anyway!
Oh gosh, I have a big problem.
My only two food sources are:
And there both OUT completely and I currently have Zero food? is there any other food sources i can get other than fish(I only have 3,000 tech points out of 50,000 that i need for magic)
I dont want to have to start over.
About food -
The fruit tree and honey will eventually regenerate. You can also plant two more trees by repairing the lift and using it to get the seeds. Have your chief make magic food every 24 hours. And lastly, have the children pick up mushrooms. You can use a little trick to double the mushroom points. Use the space bar to pause, drop a child on the mushroom, quickly hit space bar twice to unpause and pause again, then drop a second child on the mushroom. If you time it right and are quick enough, both children will pick up the mushroom.
I've never even heard that rumor! In your situation, there's not much to do. Sometimes a random island event will bring a new person to the tribe or a barrel of babies. They aren't common, though, and you have no control over it.
OK, me again. ;)
Besides what Pam already said, a few tips:
Brown mushrooms are worth only 6 food points but red mushrooms are worth 35, so if you see one, drop everything else and get those.
One more thing you can do if you're really, REALLY desperate to save a starving community, is
pause the game, then rove the island and look for mushrooms, unfreezing the game only long enough to have kids pick it up, and pause again once they are deposited in the food bin. That way your villagers won't eat much meanwhile, and you can accumulate a food hoard that will let them survive the hard times.
But it's a lot of work, so only do it if you're really attached to your community. Otherwise just start over, and try to manage your priorities with more attention to food next time. :)
BTW, to those who had never seen a mango - those fruit on the trees that some people call apples or bananas - they are mangoes. :)
Sorry, clarification for the last spoiler I posted:
Mushrooms and collectibles will keep appearing and disappearing, even while the game is paused.
Ok, One more question:
How old does a woman have to be before she can have children? i tried my 17 year old with my 21 year old, and it seemed as if she was too young.
Does anyone know the answer? I'm sure it's been asked before.
They can start having babies at age 18.
I understand the challenge and it was my mistake to leave such a viral young male with his skill preference set to parenting. Being the mother of a teenage boy I should have known better. ;)
What I don't get is why my villagers would fish out of bounds, for lack of a better description, then get stuck out there and die.
Sorry forgot my manners and didn't include a thank you for offering your help to those that replied.
So here it is:
Thank you so much for the responses to my post it is appreciated,
Setting a male to parenting will definitely bring lots of babies. I usually set a female to parenting to keep the population going, but it doesn't get out of control.
I don't know why the villagers would swim out of bounds. That's a weird thing. If you ever have to drop them into the ocean yourself, just be sure to drop them to the left of the coral.
And... you're welcome. :)
Another way to get food...
You can place your chief on the food bin and he will begin to create magic food. Do not touch your chief until he is is done because if you stop him he cannot restart for another twenty-four hours.
...you can only do this once every twenty-four hours.
Hope this helps!
can anyone tell me why all my villagers are walking so slowly, even the teenagers, kids are still running around...
I need help... I just got nature 2 and i cant not find the pitcher plant. please help me.... I need food, I have alot done but the sharks got to go.....
About the pitcher plant:
There is an area just to the left of the alchemy lab where the kids hang out when "nature is calling." The pitcher plant is the tall red and green things as the very top of that area.
Note - be sure you actually have level 2 faction. Drove me nuts the first time I played. For all the other skills, you start with level 1 and your first upgrade is to level 2. For your faction, you start at level 0 and your first upgrade is to level 1. So you need to upgrade faction twice, once for 4500 tech points, and then a second time for 50,000 points.
For vez - about your slow villagers:
This is just part of the fun and mystery with Virtual Villagers. Your villagers have individual characteristics, and you have no control over that, sort of like with real people. Every time you start a game you get a different group of folks each with very individual characteristics. Generally speaking, the adults do move a great deal slower than the kids (unless you're lucky enough to get a villager who likes running).
One thing you can do to make sure they're running at their optimum speed is to make sure they have full health. They can become healthier by eating, so drop them on the food bin repeatedly until you see that the health bar is full.
Here is a screenshot of the pitcher plant.
About slow walking villagers:
My idea is that they might be tired, and sometimes they just slow down once they hit age fourteen try giving them a break as in eating, drinking etc. I've never had that happen to me, but I'll try to gather info if I can.
If your villagers get stuck at the top of the screen turn the game off then turn it back on very simple solution =^.^=+
I'm SO confused, I opened the door, put my villager at the sun dial, but all it does is keep turning. I put it every way but it just won't do anything, you say let them interact ( sorry if I didnt spell it right) , but it's not doing anything!!!! Help me please!!!!
Nevermind I finished. My puzzles are now done, but what is there left to do?
About the sun disk -
It's a little tricky. Wait until there's sunlight and then put a villager on the left side. It should make the spirits appear. You can then drop the villager onto the spirits if the story doesn't automatically start.
You can complete the collections if you haven't already done so. The tribe will pretty much run on its own unless something serious comes along to wipe it out. You can always start another tribe on a harder level. :)
Here is an idea on how to get your parenting skill up:
Just drop a villager on a child. They will go into the amphitheater and the villager will start "Telling a story". When he is done, you should see a "This villager improved on parenting" message. Does not work always though.
So they moved the statue to the top of the slope but now they see it but do nothing
A few more tips:
If your tribal chief is a woman:
She can still have babies. Make use of that if your chief is not vital for a puzzle
Don't waste your scientists precious time to gather herbs for alchemy:
Use children instead. They will do the job in half the time.
some potions of the magic faction that might prove useful (or just fun)
berry+lotus+orchid - feels smarterberry+cactus+rose - scientific clarityberry+tiger lily+tiger lily - whoa! (teleports villager to a random place)
the best time to "tell a story" is:
when it rains. all kids will gather in the amphitheater and play in puddles
First check to see what version of the game you have. There was a bug with the statue that was fixed with version 1.00.04. If you have the earlier version, you'll need to download the game again from the site where you originally purchased it.
What if I have all my huts built and no master builder? Do I have to start over?
You don't have to start over, but which puzzle are you trying to solve?
Have you ever had a villager die and not find the body? One of my elderly villagers just seems to have disappeared - no body, no extra grave, just gone. Just thought that was odd.
Your site has been a lot of help. Thank you.
I've had that happen once before, too. I figured that some kind of island event happened that I missed.
I got a blue-eyed child. It was very shocking - mainly because that has never happened to me in any of the three games, but also because both parents are dark-eyed. Methinks Mummy's got some 'splainin' to do! :-D
I wanted to know if you missed some tablet pieces when clearing the rubble. Is there a way to get them back?
To Kittitian Girl:
I have a tribe that has about 95% black haired villagers. I deliberately make only the ones with black hair have babies. Every now and then I get a yellow haired child from two black haired parents!!
The tablet pieces will continue to appear in that same area.
Help! I can't get my population past 35. I try to drop a builder on the pile of rubble that I THINK is a hut up near the ampitheater, but it says my guy is confused and something like "need more research". What am I doing wrong? How do I get my people to re-build this hut so I can get more people?
