Those are the torches you use to calm the bees with smoke. After that, I don't think they do anything.

About the etchings, I haven't seen anything done with them.

Make sure all huts are built prior to the construction of the statue or the buiders will continue working on the huts and not start construction of the statue.

I need just a little bit of help. I had a chief who was directing work on the statue, how ever he died before they finished it. Now I have a village with no chief, a statue that is almost finshed, and can't go any farther until I get a new one. I've been making the women have babies in the hopes that one of them will be the leader but that is not working. (I think they've had about 20 kids so far) Any ideas on how I can get a Chief? Or how old they have to be before they can become the chief?

Reply

Sarah - A villager of any age can be the chief, and I believe as soon as the old one dies one of your members should fit the robe. Nursing mothers can't try on the robe though, so maybe your chief is one of them? Wait until they aren't carrying the baby anymore.

Reply

To Sarah:

Making babies actually hinders your efforts to find a new Chief. As soon as the old one died, one of your existing villagers is the new Chief. Like Eileen said, if one of the nursing mothers is the new Chief, she can't try on the robe until she's finished nursing.

The diamond in the fire takes some time to happen. When you see white sparkles in the fire, it's time to let it die out and the diamond will be there. Once the fire is out and the diamond is there, you drop villagers at the waterfall and they will carry water to the diamond to cool it.

To Pam, Thanks for your reply, but yes I am running on fast mode, and yep all you people out there having trouble with Chief not directing work on the Statue, I am having the same problem, not only that, I only have two master builders left and they have aged so much, so am a little worried if I can't get them to work, game over, I have tried Chief everywhere, well as far as I am aware, I will try near the door again though. anyways let you know if it works..

Reply

To chezza:

Try floating your chief up and down the statue and look for something in his action box to say something about a place to direct work again. Also, you can train new builders on the existing huts. Drop them on a hut and they will repair it. They only need Trainee status to work on the statue.

I am having trouble right off the bat so nobody laugh. I'm solving the first three puzzle's easily (I have started over 3 times now) and I have at least 1 master and 2 adequate farmers, 1 master and 2 adequate builders and one master scientist. All I need to do is build up enough tech points to buy either leadership for the rain dance or retoration so I can fix the lift but my tribe keeps starving before I can build up enough tech points. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks.

To Pam, again thanx for the reply, I have tried everything with the chief to direct work, I have hovered him everywhere, honest, I get.. checking on food, proud of tribe, am thinking nothing comes up with derceting work , tried that, so am wondering is there a glitch in the game?? Have lost my patience have to say, got so and so far away.. Plus hate that it takes soo long to get tech points .. ok this is my 1st time playing this game .. maybe you should go for all the tech points, then actually play the game? I am annoyed and frustrated to the fact that I have left that tribe continue on it's own and will never finish, and I have a headache with it all... I have another tribe but been there done before, and again, slow on the tech points .. too many hours play and not enough in return have to say.. awww

It matters, though, WHERE you drop your Chief and the builders. Try dropping them up on the ramp near the scaffolding (about 2/3rds of the way up the hill).

To those having problems w/ the statue.... Like yourselves, I've tried dropping my chief EVERYWHERE around & on the statue, the path, the door, the base of the statue, etc. but she won't direct work. Frustrated w/ the tribe, I started a new one. I have the same freaking problem AGAIN after starting over. So if that was going to be your solution, don't waste your time.

If anyone has a suggestion, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I quit.

Reply

Gina - at first, you need a master builder to start the process by building scaffolding up near the flat broken part of the statue.

Once that's built, then you can begin to add other trained builders to the job. The chief is needed to keep everyone working.

This is my first time playing the full version of VV. I started out rocky with tech points being lost due to an event and my 22 yr old researcher dying of a work related accident. Yet, the roster of the dead did not appear automatically as it did for others after he perished. Another issue I had was a male impregnating 3 females while I was away. Thankfully, by that point, I had enough food to sustain the population. I had a strange glitch were 3-4 people were going indoors together, lol. My potions didn't always work the same either, instead of feeling healthier or going faster mine exploded or did something else.

The thing that I am getting frustrating with is tech points. Luckily every time my food resources went down to 0, I was able to accumulate enough tech points to get to the next level of getting food. But replenishing the tech points has been a nightmare as the game wears on. After 5 days of play, I have Nature 2, Leadership 2, Restoration 2, Science 2. Currently, I am at 47,800 tech points and 535 food points with a pop of 17. I am starting to tire waiting for tech points. It's going to take me forever to get both 3rd levels of restoration and leadership for the statue. I have almost all my people at the research table. Is there anyway to get tech points faster? Can I hope for an event that will give me many?

if your wondering what's the maximum number for the village is..............105, but im wondering if building the clothes hut later in the game can support more population, does anyone know?
also i almost completed the game, i just finished the statue.
tip: if ur waiting for the statue to be fixed, you probably want them to start fixing the statue before you go to bed, then in the morning you'll find your statue fixed hassle free :)
and, i want more random island events! they stopped happening whenever i go in the game and it gets bleak when random stuff doesn't happen, in the prevoiuse games they happen a LOt, but this version barley has any :(
or is it just a glitch in the game?
talking about glitches, there's a lot of them in virtual villagers series, and i wish in the 4th game they'll make the place bigger to explore a little and in the next game i want them to make bigger huts, possibly an actual house, and i want to suggest more additions:
1.more puzzles
2.a way you can interact with animals
3.in the next game they can KEEP animals ;)
4.have a more complex civillization
5.have a online demo version thatz not a peice of crap
6.more huts! :)
7.a bigger ocean
8.more herbs
9.day AND night i really want them to have day and night, it would be cool, it would be a great addition to the weather
10. more random events
actually i run out of ideas anyway if anyone needs help i would be happy to help :)

Thanks, Pam. For the most part I've been on fast speed and I've done the food magic everyday and replenished my bin with fish, fruit and honey a hundred times. I upgraded to science 2 and alchemy 2. I guess I am just stuck with waiting for the tech points to accumulate. I do wish there were more events though. If nothing else, they add a lot of excitement.

wootsy, I can't imagine the statue would be done overnight. It took my people 3 days real time (mainly on fast and normal, overnight slow) to complete the bath, clear the rubble and unearth the roster of the dead. It took 4 days to get the small hut built. I can't imagine how long it'll take my tribe to build the other hut and statue.

Reply

I've been able to get the statue done fairly quickly. Less than a day, in fact. It was on my second time with the game, so I knew what to expect. I trained loads of builders and had about 20 of them on the statue. It really didn't take long that way. :)

There is supposed to be a spot along the path near where the scaffolding was built that will make the chief go back to directing work. Sorry, but I don't have a game going at that point so I can't take a screen shot for you. If I figure out something, I'll post it here later.

Reply

I haven't seen anyone mention this so I thought it was worth a note. In addition to the oft mentioned creating of magic food and locating of rare items, the chief has an additional skill he can only use once in every 24 hours.

Since I don't know how to hide a spoiler, I will only say that it can be used to educate your children on all of the skills way before they are old enough to work. As a matter of fact, with judicious use of the pause feature, all of my villagers have at least one unit of training in each skill before they are 3 years old. Many are even at the level of an adept, though they only show as an 'Apprentice' whatever until they turn 14. It's very handy for folks who want to take the game slowly or can't play every day and are willing to put the game on pause often. So, if you are willing to take the game slowly, I recommend experimenting with your chief and children - you might be surprised by how much easier the game becomes.

* Unlike the regular collectibles that repeat themselves throughout the game, the tablets do not repeat themselves. Once you find one you will not find one like it again.
* If for some reason you miss a tablet when it came out you will have a chance to collect it a later time since they will reappear eventually.
* Rare pieces can take a week or two reappear, but they will come back, eventually.

I've also started over a couple of times, but in the new villages no one seems to want to clear the leavage as well :(

Any suggestions?

Clearing leaves is definitely a builder's activity. Make sure that you are dropping the villagers in the right spot. Also, the various activities seem to have a priority rank in the game. For example, if you've also set the builders to building a hut or clearing rubble, they will do that instead of the leaves. It's probably a good idea to build only one thing at a time.

I hope this was helpful. If you continue having problems, post here again and I'll try to help.
