where does the foundation for the sewing hut show up. i bought level 3 of engineering & level 2 of culture and i still don't see it.

The foundation for the sewing hut will show up near the bottom of the island. Down and to the right of the Love Shack where they go inside to make babies.

This is a dumb question... but how do I put this game on pause? My 3 year old has done it several times... but of course I can't figure out how she did it!LOL There is no pause button... and I've tried everything I can think of..

Thanks Pam : )... she must have been hitting the space bar.

Last night I went to bed with my villagers building the dam on half speed... I did not purchase farming level 2 purposely because I wanted to finish the dam first. I got up this morning and the algae was in the ocean anyway! My food supply was gone and I had to go to farm tech 2 so I could pick coconuts.... grrrr

So I guess the algae will come at some point whether you get farm tech 2 or not.... you can just delay it for a while.

About the scarecrow:

You need to drop an adept or master farmer on the twisted wood to build the scarecrow. You should have also used this wood to create the tools. Also, you need to drop the farmer on the wood twice to complete the scarecrow, otherwise it won't keep the birds away.

This is a silly question - I am at the basic level here - how do I increase the tech points? I have been playing for 18 hrs and have 2500 points (I did buy the points for farming and now I have algae water etc...live and learn).
Also now that I have built the 2 huts using 3 builders, I am stuck with 3 adept builders, no master builders and nothing left to build.
Also - how do I heal someone? When I put them on top of each other they get the wrong idea and think I am encouraging them to have sex. Or they think I want them to have story time. AARRGGHH.....

Reply

Grimfest -

You increase tech points by having more people researching. Try switching your builders to research and dropping them on the research table. Keep at it until they get the idea. The more researchers you have, the faster you will accumulate tech points.

As for healing, switch their preferences over to healing before you drop them on someone. To train up a healer:

There are six special flowers on the island. Dropping someone who is switched to "healing" on these plants trains them to become doctors. Once they are trained enough, they will heal on their own.

Reply
grimfest June 4, 2009 4:15 PM

thank you for above. we are starting to accumulate some points now.
also, if i put logs on the fire, is it supposed to increase it's burning time? i can't get it to do so.

Reply
grimfest June 4, 2009 5:10 PM

re the pearl choice (I don't know how else to describe it, sorry.)

If you keep the pearl, you get super powers - ie you learn much faster and can gain master quickly in all the skills. If you show everyone, they fight over it and cause chaos to your supplies.

Reply

Grimfest -

Putting logs on the fire will only increase it to I think 8 or 9 hours, no more.

Reply
grimfest June 4, 2009 7:28 PM

I just noticed something - and I bet I am slow on the uptake here, so please forgive me if everyone already knows this - the picture of the kid on the details screen shows it's parents as well.

Plus: do we have access to a complete menu? The combination of herbs must equal 50 or so. (My algebra doesn't extend to that equation.)

Reply
Timburrr June 4, 2009 10:22 PM

If it helps, it kinda makes the game go by faster. But anyways since the game is run in real time, if you play it on an iphone or i-touch, you can change the date and time settings to later, and it speeds up the process of time in your village. (Note: if you do this in crucial moments, like speeding it up when low on food[meaning anywhere between 400-600], yes thats low. The game if sped up, will also speed up their consumption, and you will come back to see all your villagers dead. :(

[Edit: We strongly advise against changing the date and time. It can really mess up your game. -Pam]

To Grimfest:

About healing -

You're doing the right thing by dropping them on each other to heal, but they have to be sick. If you drop someone on a healthy person, you'll get the making babies or story thing. Anyone in the village can heal a sick person, even children, without experience from the herbs.

About the fire -

Dropping a villager on the wood pile will make them add wood to the fire. However, as grinnyp stated, it will only bring it up to 8 or 9 hours on fast speed. If you are playing on normal or slow speed, the numbers of hours left to burn will be higher. But it won't ever go over the max number of hours.

About stew recipes -

There is a spoiler for all of the stew recipes in the walkthrough section located at the top of this page.

i am actually working on it now...maybe i will wait and see what happens when that is completed, or when i get to master farmer. I hope that will work...lol

Reply

Jules -

That's the answer right there. You can't build the scarecrow until the dam is finished and the farmland is ready to go. You could probably use an adept farmer.

Reply

yeah i think you are right, only stands to reason that you can't have a scarecrow without a field of crops...lol...d'uh...lol...thanks for all your help.

Reply

Well, actually, you need to build it before your first crop comes in, or else you might lose the crop to the birds. As soon as the dam is finished try to build the scarecrow, it should work. Don't forget to drop the farmer on the twisted vines twice to finish it.

Is there a spear? I saw a comment somewhere about how to make a spear, but none of my tribies can find any potential spear-making ingredients.

BTW: thank you for your help. We are getting along nicely. I had 6 kids on a new item and all of them picked it up! I noticed I need at least 5 kids on an item for more than 1 to collect it. Using just 3 or 4 kids doesn't seem to increase the collection.
Re the recipes: is that the comprehensive list? I noticed a lot of duplicate effects when mixing my own. I thought about doing every single combination - but if the list has been compiled by someone who has already done that I will (gratefully) move on to something else.
I wish cooking was a skill - having to remind them what to do is a chore.

Reply

Grimfest -

90 is your maximum number of villagers, just like in Virtual Villagers 1. However, you can go above that by completing collections (butterflies, shells, pebbles, bugs). For every collection you complete, your maximum population jumps by 5, and if you complete all four it jumps by an additional 5. So one collection complete - 95 max population, two collections complete - 100 max population, three collections complete - 105 max population, all four collections complete - 115 max population.

Hey... I've been playing this for like 2-3 days now. I've got a master scientist, and I've got level two farming/building and exploration. I've made stews, I've done the dam and the scarecrow, so I've got the crops and the coconuts to finish up before my people starve.

But for some reason my adept farmers won't go to masters, I've tried simply leaving them to farm continiously, but the bars don't get any longer. I've tried focusing on one of them -highest bar- and making him to everything and he still won't progress.

I really need him to turn master before I can buy the third farming tech, and get the fish from the stream into the sea, and it's starting to get to a close call on the food.

Don't panic if you don't have any master farmers. A master scientist can also get the fish from the stream to the sea.

The crops will grow back fairly quickly and will keep growing back throughout the game once you've solved the problem of the birds. The coconuts also grow back, but not as much.

Wow..... I'm not saying to do this. This is just cool. I had a lot of fun and I beat the game so I started a new tribe and stayed up all last night and managed to complete almost everything thanks to this website and advancing time (not saying do it. I have killed like 12 tribes messing up doing it,just got bored) and I got mad with the fact that they would not have babies past the population of 19. Well, like 10 minutes ago a house randomly showed up. I built it advancing time 1 hour and then I tried more to well... make babies and no one would do it and like 12 of them were master parents, so I just gave up and advanced time 30 minutes to get more tech points and when I came back, I had a population of over 75!! Haha. Well, this may be a waste of time typing it, but I just found it amazing. Oh and they were all playing tag in a line from the hospital to the palm tree to the graves (lol). Oh and I do have 4 questions:

1. What are to totem designs?
2. Is there a way to choose what totem appears?
3. How many buildings will show up?
4. What effects can the gong have?

Oh, and if anything in my comment is a spoiler, sorry. New and if there is a way, I will change it if you tell me.

[Edit: We strongly advise changing your computer clock. It can mess up the game, as well as other computer functions that rely on the clock. -Pam]

To axkillaneox:

I'll try to answer your questions.

1 and 2: There are several different designs of totems. They appear randomly and cannot be chosen.

3: You'll get three living huts, a sewing hut, a hospital and the baby hut.

4: The gong can bring food or tech points, take away youth, bring illness, bring experience. There may be more, but I don't recall them at the moment.

Reply

axkillaneox -

The gong can:

Give food or take food, give tech points or take tech points, give youth (the person who rings get younger) or take youth (the person who rings gets older), give or take health, give experience (the person who rings becomes a master in something) or take experience (the person who rings loses skills), gives luck (I'm not sure what that one does), or take life (the person who rings is killed). There may be more, but those are the ones I remember offhand.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the crate from the beach--I know you have to be a 'master builder' to get it out, but i've had two on my villagers constantly working on a building project and yet neither can progress above adept (i've looked and every time it says the villager has learned, the bar won't have gone up any) is it supposed to take an insanely long time (longer than any of the other skills) or does my game have a glitch??

Reply

To J:

About the crate -

You will actually need 3 Master Builders to open the crate.

And, yes, it does seem to take longer to train builders than farmers or scientists, especially when going from Adept to Master. Just keep after them and make sure they stay on task. Also, make sure you have construction selected on their preference screens.

I have the iPhone/iTouch version. Does that help?
And

If you get the option where they ask if you would wish to scare off a boy or lure him with food (an extra), if you lure him, he will eat most of your food, however, you will get a new child to help out.

Thanks!

Don't leave your villagers alone for too long. They'll die.

Reply

Elisha -

Another way to gain tech points is collectibles. The first time your kids pick up a shell/stone/beetle/butterfly it goes in your collection. After that they are worth tech points. If I remember correctly it is something like: common collectibles - 100 points, uncommon collectibles - 250 points, rare collectibles - 1500 points. That is presuming you already have it in your collection. For instance if you pick up a rare stone with one of your kids and you already have it in your collection, you will get tech points for it when the kid delivers it to the science hut. If you don't have it in the collection, it will go into the collection and you won't gain any tech points.

One more thing - I only have one researcher and in the bottom it says the person improved but when i check the detail the bar doesn't move... (AT ALL). I'm trying to make him a master but he just isn't cooperating with me - anyone know what to do? Please help!

Reply

Jenna -

About the dam:

Look at the stream that runs down the right hand side of the screen. Right before it becomes a pond there is an area where they can build a dam. Find a builder and hover them around the area until you find the spot. It'll say something like "this is a good area for a dam". Drop the builder and they'll start building the dam. Once the dam is built it will irrigate an area for crops. You need to be at farming level two for the crops (also to harvest the coconuts). There's also more you need to do once the dam is built, check the walkthrough for more details.

About your researcher:
All you can do is make sure that the preference for research is checked in their details and let them go. They will eventually make it to master.

I LOVE this game on iPod Touch! But wow, it's addicting. Even when I know it will take at least a few more hours to clear away brush or build a hut I still can't put it down.

My experience so far has been dominated by my one 'Master Parent,' which I've found out the hard way is code for the village's Casanova. Right now he has 20(!) children with 3 different women which he keeps steadily impregnated. The instant the mother's child turns two or a teenage girl turns 18, he sprints to them as fast as he can. I've taken to dragging him into my (still algae-filled) ocean to give the other men a chance.

Of course, being constantly pregnant leaves the woment almost entirely useless to the village (I'm starting to understand where sexism came from), and as an added bonus, when all the women are pregnant, Casanova does nothing but 'enjoy the pond.' Psh. Men.

I do have one question. Nearly all of Casanova's children have turned out to be boys. Is it possible for a village to go extinct from lack of women? Also, are family ties an issue for having babies?

Reply

Brokenrecord -

It is rare but possible to end up with a village with all one sex, and yes, it can go extinct. I've had it happen before.

Family ties are not an issue, but genetics can be. Parents pass along hair color and skills. I've set one guy to parenting and come back a couple of days later to find a village full of red-head master farmers.

As for Casanova, you can take his preferences off of parenting and train him in something else to let the other guys have a chance, if you'd like.

Reply

Leslie -

Basically, yes. However, you can work on filling in the collections. For each collection you complete it ups your max population by 5. Also, try ringing the gong every 24 hours and see what happens.

Sonic29 -

To mix the plants you have to get them to make a stew. Here's how it's done:

Drop an adult on the cauldron that should be sitting in the fire (if you've found the cauldron, that is). They will move it so a stew can be made. Then drop another adult on the cauldron and they will go fetch water for the stew. Drop 3 adults on the plants you want to add and they will bring the plants to the cauldron. Once all that is done, drop another adult on the cauldron one last time to bring vegetables to complete the stew. Then have someone taste it!

Hi all.

Ok, I have level 2 in all areas. My villagers are about to die because there is no food and the next batch from the farm isn't for 90 minutes. There are barely any coconuts left and there is algae in the water. What do I do?

Reply

Melissa -

You need level 3 farming to get rid of the algae so you can get more food. In the meantime, have kids collect every mushroom you can find. Then use them to make a nutritious stew (see the walkthrough above for recipes or just use purple-purple-purple). A good stew can keep them going until the next crops come in. If their health is suffering, then use the "restore" recipe orange-purple-purple to completely restore their health.
