Yeah, I noticed that MoTaS reference in the second tape too. (Then again, it is something that people actually do in real life, so it could be coincidental). Those eyes really freaked me out too.

Anyway, I loved this game a lot. Loads of great, varied, not too difficult puzzles. I particularly enjoyed the final one, as it required you to

view the clips closely and analyse them. That said, I felt that 4 (girl wants to escape) and 3 (girl gets scolded by her mother) were in the wrong order - it would make more sense for the scolding to occur before the girl says that she wants to leave.

Reply

I had it that way, too, Wulfo. =)

But I noted that the two could be switched if necessary, since I had trouble deciding.

Reply

Could not get the prism thing at all. Where do I have to stand, etc?

Reply

Finally done, but I needed help with the ending part. Cute game, though a bit creepy.

Reply

eyebrows - about the sprinkler:

watch your inventory items as you move about the room.

Reply

*applauds* Very nice. I thought this was a lot better than the previous one. And the incorporation of "grow" was very nice. Good job.

Reply

got the 3rd tape, but stuck at the alarm override!

Reply

Re clips in the wrong order:

The clips are date-stamped (dd/mm), so there's no ambiguity except for the three events that happened on the same day (confrontation in the kitchen, Mother gets in the car, the crash), and those clearly have an order.

Reply

The eyes were incredibly freaky, but at the same time appropriate. I feel shame in that I couldn't get through most of this game without a walkthrough (except for the last bit - got it first try :)) but the story is amazing. Minor blips (server problems, not within the actual game itself) aside, this is a great game. One thing that confused me was

the disappearance of the bathroom mirror and the lighter upon entering the color code,

but besides that, I had a fulfilling experience.

Reply

Due to the saved games problem, I went ahead and tried to beat the game in one run, and was successful. A really good game, even touching, if not incredibly surreal.

Reply

Jay, you might consider a warning tag.

We found the electro-punishment scene more disturbing than any of the so-called "adult" content in other games here.
My girlfriend especially appreciated the prism puzzle. In particular, the way the spectrum changes depending on where you're standing. Nice touch.

Decent game. I think I liked the puzzles and atmosphere better in the previous gateway, though. Maybe it seemed more eerie because of the lack of narrative.
It's going to be hard for any game to meet expectations when it's being compared to the superlative eyezmaze games.

Reply

Could it be there is a bug with the lamp and scribbling at the phone when you do things in the wrong order? I now have a lamp that says its stuck when I click it, and scribbling doesn't seem to get me any further ...

Reply

This was a great experience! This is one of the best flash games I have played!

Reply

Hi, I was wondering, where do I go to save? Everytime I try something, I end up exiting the game or something. Thanks =]

Reply

nvm, haha i knew i knew it, thanks anyways =]

Reply

Only thing i would change is to make it possible to unplug the cable from girl girl at end (if you get the sequence wrong) so you can put it back into the TV to have another look at the video clips. Otherwise, very entertaining game - a lot of thought obviously went into it. very much appreciated.

Reply

I really liked this game, it was fun, challenging, great everything! =]

Reply

Ho hum possible bug!!

I'm in the room with sprinkler and I set it off but the other door doesn't open? Correction it DOES open, for .5 seconds. As it in opens and then closes jusr as quickly. And then I input the color code and then only the door I originally came from opens. I try walking out of the room and then coming back in and redoing everything but that doesn't work either.

Help?

I had a saved game, but now its gone :( and now going through all the tapes I had is annoying.

And now I can't get the door across the

red bridge (woot, first time i've used spoilers if it works :] )

to open, even when i've completed the puzzle. Have I done something wrong??

Reply

Oh, nevermind. I thought i had to have it all lit, I needed to have it all off. bad Memory, bad! no pudding for you tonight!

Reply

Aaaaa!! I was almost all the way through and the game glitched, so I reloaded and now on the third tape the eyes will NOT go away.

I'm behind the door of the fridge; How specific do I need to be?

Reply

That game was really fun, in a kind of silent hill kind of way. I beat it with the spoiler at points, and have one question:

During the torture scene, how does one determine which sums to come up with?

Reply
triplejackplayer February 26, 2007 6:53 PM

Becca, you need to hide in the tiniest corner behind the fridge, should be like top left behind the fridge door, just wait there then the eyes will go away.

Reply

Creepiest game ever.

Reply

"Creepiest game ever."
Ditto. Fun game though, without being too difficult.

Reply

my save game didn't save either :( but I started again and it didn't take long to get to the same point.

Awesome game! just enough creepiness to make me happy and lots of things to work out. A lot of thought went into this and I enjoyed playing it.

Reply

Oh dear: Please get over yourself immediately.

Deadl0ck: You should read the comic. It's even better.

Reply

Excellent hints, Jasmine...

Unique interpretation of the Grow theme, with the girl growing up. Some different types of puzzles, and the return of the TV. Better plot, nice ending. Almost like a movie. (She should go off on a plane, like in Casablanca)
Again, the whole spying thing is really creepy. Your character spies on this family, and tortures a poor student. If there was scary music, I might have to run from the computer. The eyes really freak me out.

Anyway, a game that needs saving might not be exactly what Jay is looking for, but I feel the unique interpretation of the grow theme works. One of things I like about this game is how (most) things make sense. Some don't. (Who hid the tapes? Why did the girl want them? What's with those eyes? Why did the girl faint? What happens to Mike? Why must we torture someone?)

Overall, this sequel more than lives up to its predecessor.

Loved the game. So spot on with atmosphere and game play. So stylish, and full of great subtlety (like the cellphone sound in the right speaker before the phone rings. . . ) Made the game very engaging and genuinely creepy.

Reply

I was previously able to use the mirror on the eye, but now it just says "that doesn't work".

Bummer!

Reply

You have to be in the right spot for it to work. Keep an eye on your inventory items as you move about the room.

That was great!!! This was a unique (and serious) take on the "grow" theme.

I just managed to get out from the kitchen carrying my precious 3rd videotape and I am stuck at the alarm corridor. I have tried everything to make the door on the left open, but it is impossible. I used the alarm override many times, made it all green, then all red etc. etc., I tried to use the mirror everywhere. What am I doing wrong? Can you please help me? (Excuse my english ^-^)

Reply

Great little game. The puzzles are a bit on the easy side, but overall the graphics, the story and the atmosphere are all superb.

The tone could be a little bit darker however (considering the subject matter), and the plot gets a little bit overexplanatory. I'd prefer a less direct approach with much subtler hints what is really going on.

All in all, I'm eagerly awaiting Gateway 3.

Reply

@ O Dear: Allow me to quote you.

"in the end, simply advocates one form of fascism over another."

Sounds to me like you found some deeper meaning in the movie as well, negating your statement that it doesn't have one. That said, I believe this isn't the place to try to troll and flame people, no matter how eloquently done.

@ Jasmine:

Thanks! Will have a look out for it, unfortunately the local specialist comic store shut down recently, and finding English comics isn't as easy as it used to be.

Reply
Oh dear, again. February 27, 2007 9:37 AM

I think you need to revise your definitions of "philosophical" and "deep". In the end, the film is exploitative schlock with nothing to say, not to mention a massive tarnish on the comic, replacing an intelligent and genuine political discourse with tedious BUSH IS A HITLER screed.

Here's a hint: When the original creator of an IP says the film missed the point, it missed the point.

Jasmine: Sorry, what?

Reply

that's not really what I imagined for the grow-theme.. it appears a little forced in to meet the instruction. I enjoyed the first gateway game; the second would have been better with less story and more gameplay.
although it's really hilarious that the robot-mummy doesn't want her little robot-girl to connect diodes with the neighbour's son :P

Reply

I'm also stuck at the tv after the second phone. What do I need to do with that tv?

Reply

@janne: are you sure you followed the storyline? i thought it was not hilarious, but quite depressing... lol

I loved the first Gateway, and this one, even though it's quite different, is another marvelous game. I love the look, the way of playing, the puzzles and the story. I thought the clips were a little long sometimes, but seeing the end, i understand why... This game was made more to say something than to just make a game. I also think it's a good thing to say those things. Suicide is a subject we dodge too easily. I am glad to see someone has the courage to talk about it... ;)

About the game itself: There was one thing that as bothering me in the first episode: sometimes, the character gets stuck in the furnitures. I was hoping that the problem would be solved, but no... :P You still have to walk the guy around the things, since he's not smart enough to do it himself... But besides that, I loved it! :D

Please make a third one!! lol

Reply

I am completely colorblind and I feel like this game discriminated against me.

Reply

Paulyzee - that was a complaint of the first game, but that certainly does not apply here. Anders listened to the constructive criticisms from the first game and incorporated an options menu (click the little "G" in the upper right corner, then select "options") in which you may select accessibility parameters for the game.

Reply

I keep trying...and nothing seems to work. Could someone just please give out the code for the second phone >

Reply

@ Luca Shoal

You first have to look through the telescope when you're in the room. The you will see the girl flashing the light 3 times. After that, you need to flash your light also 3 times and then the phone will ring. The press 11-22-33-11 and the door will open.

schizo18 - empty your browser cache and reload. It sounds like you have an incomplete file. There are a lot of files to this game. Perhaps one got corrupted during its initial download.

Emptying your cache should force the game to reload the files instead of reusing the corrupted one.
