I'm planning on phasing out the anans and airvans (probably the anans first since their range is 200 km or miles shorter than the airvans), however, I can't quite decide on what to replace them with. Maybe the Mohawks (i currently have 2) which perform very well, or go with the equinox, which looks like is would work well as a regional jet.
Right now, my airport network is still regional, most of the North America class 2 airports (except for some of the east coast and Canadian cities), central America, and the northwestern part of south America. I'm planning on getting the other class 2 and 3 cities in south America once I get more planes that can reach the Brazilian cities, Santiago, and Buenos Aires more easily.
I did have Honolulu for a while, but after I had finished the aloha achievement, it became not very profitable because only my two birchcraft could get there.
Actually, I do have planes that can make the trip, I'm just thinking too locally maybe and simply didn't see if I could earlier.
Is it worth it to upgrade my aeroeagle so that it can fly across the atlantic or should i wait for other planes with longer range?
@rod: if you're going for the achievement, I just checked and a supergopher with fully upgraded range starting from Recife has four African airports in range.
If I've already shut down my airport in San Diego, do I still get the prize? Since I did shut it down after the event finished & did over 100 jobs... Which by the way, when do we get our prizes?
[It'll come, be patient. The updates don't come immediately after the global event ends, it takes a while to push out the updates. Try exiting the game and coming back to it. That always does the trick for me. -Jay]
Help anyone!!?? i just complete the global event in san diego with over 500 jobs and have not gotten my starship! when are we supposed to get our prize?????
[It'll come, be patient. Try exiting the game and coming back to it. That always does the trick for me. -Jay]
You should've gotten it by now. I just did :)
The truth to the Starship.
No it's not going to make you money in the short run.
I just put the Starship at Beijing and want to fly it to New York. So far for it I have two 7 Buxes. If one was to hold out until they get to 1,000 Bux and then cash them in it would be 1,000 Coin per Bux. Those Bux that you get flying from Beijing to NY yields 14,000 and the flight cost 8,000.
Therefore in the long run that flight will yield you 5,500 coins or so.
I myself am still on a quest to get to 15,000 Bux which is 8,000 Coin per Bux so therefore that flight would yield me 112,000 Coin. not too bad.......You will just need the worker bee flights that make good profit the smaller to midsized ones to be able to make that flight.
I don't want to many of them but one or two wouldn't be that bad.
GC = Pezkingjs
How are you supposed to make money with the starship?
Costs me 927 to send fully laden from Istanbul to Tokyo which are my cities furthest from each other
Hey guys, I didn't get my Starship after the last event- I closed the San Diego airport after I had done about 20 jobs because I needed one elsewhere, does it only payout if you still have an active airport there?
Never mind, rebooted the phone and it popped up. :)
I just wanted to give a quick shout out to the guys who have sent me parts over the last couple of days, while the little pop up is to fast for me to see your gametags every little bit helps so THANK YOU!!!! :)))))
Add me in the game Center: JEDICATTY
So I got two starships as a result of participating in the San Diego event (go team!). One came as mystery parts and the other as the prize. But the Starship seems too expensive to run. Is the only way to make a profit to go for Bux jobs and save them until the exchange rate is high?
The top 8 for the San Diego Global Event were
I enjoy seeing people names that I have added as I move up the list.
Feel free to add me if you are any of these top 8 for future fun jocking for position
Can someone please explain to me what cashing in bux is? I've noticed that lots of people aren't profiting from the starship like me, but you guys are saying something about waiting until the exchange rate is high. What does that mean and how would you do that?
Cashing in bux refers to using the Bank (in the Menu) to exchange your bux for gold. The base exchange rate is 500 gold for 1 bux, but that rate increases the more bux you save. Check out this graph to view the scaling exchange rate. You can refer to the strategy guide above the comments for more information :)
Some people are using the Starship to deliver long distance jobs for several bux, then saving up their bux and exchanging them for large amounts of gold.
Hi bruins8990, when you exchange bux for coins, every 2 bux you cash in at the same time increases the number of coins each bux you trade in is worth. Bux start out at 500 coins each, but when you cash in lots of bux at once you get a much better conversion rate. See my comment titled "Save up your Bux before cashing them in!" in the Walkthrough Guide section above the comments that explains this in detail and includes a chart showing the bux conversion formula.
Okay, thanks again :)
So basically you use the starship solely for bux jobs and save them up until you have lots of them then cash them in.
I guess I could do that, but right now I'm in the proccess of changing the anans and airvans that I have in the fleet to Mohawks because the anans and airvans can't get to the more distant South American airports.
Also it looks like they have noticed the tend with that one group who keep ending up hundreds or even millions of jobs ahead of us as the balanced the prizes out to account for those guys that consistently get so many.
Jay, and everyone else ... I've been reading the string of hints, etc since around day 1 of Pocket Planes. It has really helped.
Couple of notes:
I stuck 4 of my fully upgraded PearJets in the hangar to bring out some planes that could fly into San Diego (level 1 airport). Now that I've brought the Pears back into service, all the upgrades are gone. Be aware.
My concentration (until event in Europe or Africa) is N & S America.
For this event, it was easy to open up Singapore & Bangkok and shuttle back and forth. Let's do just enough for second place (the big prize, good job NimbleBit).
Does anyone know how the prizes work for the global event this time? It says the winner gets 30 bux and the top 10 get 45 bux. Does the winner only get 30, or do they get 30+45?
I opened up an airport in singapore and another in palu. I put a small 1 seater into palu hoping to take some cargo to singapore for the world event. I'm not getting anything though. Maybe they won't come up in such a small airport?
Good question! I don't know for sure. We'll have to wait and see.
Hi cgjohnst, small airports don't get much in the way of jobs, so you may be waiting a long time there for the right jobs to show up. You could try upgrading the airport, and even using advertising, that may help, too. I usually get at least a class 2 airport near a global event for the greater number of jobs they produce.
Hi GregoryABQ, thanks for pointing that out, that's a very important consideration for moving planes in and out of the hangar. It's not very logical that planes should lose their upgrades that way, so it would likely be a bit shocking to learn the hard way. I'll see about getting that added to our guide.
Update: Nimblebit's official response as of only a few hours ago states that this is an acknowledged bug and the issue will be fixed in the next update 1.0.4, which has already been submitted to Apple for approval. If you have lost your plane upgrades due to leaving them in the hangar, you may leave a comment with your G: number (to find your number, go to Settings from the menu and look for a string of numbers like "G:1555555" at the bottom of the screen) at this support page and a Nimblebit representative should refund you the amount in Bux.
In the meantime, a section will be added to our strategy guide to caution other players about the unfortunate risk of losing their plane upgrades until this update is in effect.
That probably would have been a better idea. I'm working on deciding which airports I want to have in the long run and which aircraft to have. This way I can have a clear plan and not waste coins or bux. I may even just drop $40 on the bux tonight and get this going much faster.
I did just have a job open up to singapore from palu, so I may be able to do it just slowly over the next few days. But hey, we're going for top 10, not 1st right =p
I wonder how long an 'extended' amount of time would be to have the planes lose the upgrades. Anyways, I'm seeing this with planes that I've had in the hangar for a long time.
Technically, the bug is not caused by the amount of time your plane is in the hangar. It actually depends on whenever your device clears its memory. Although that doesn't usually happen immediately, I would recommend not putting any additional planes into the hangar until Version 1.0.4 is available. The exact cause (according to Nimblebit employee Dani Rudolph) is as follows:
"In the current version, the plane upgrades are only stored in the device's memory so when that memory is cleared by force quitting the app . . . if the app crashes or when your device determines that it needs more memory for another app the upgrades are lost. We've fixed this problem so that like the planes the upgrades are stored in the app's database where they should be and will not be lost when moving them in and out of the hangar."
Hopefully the update comes out quickly, although Apple doesnt seem to be known for pushing out published updates quickly.
I store a lot of planes in the hangar, so of the 11 planes currently in there, the only one that doesnt need a refund for upgrades is the starship because I haven't gotten around to taking it out of the hangar in the first place. One or two might not need a refund, but since I'm wasting bux to just take them out to look at them, might as well refund them all, aside from the starship.
My apologies to Kristian (KS). In my July 12, 2012 11:52 AM message, I reasoned that it was just the case the *he* had not figured out how to run the starship profitably. Having had it for a few days myself, I agree with his conclusion. It seems to be mostly a novelty. Any routes that are arguably profitable (such as a bux route if cashing in at a very high exchange rate) are probably *more* profitable with other planes.
Jay, I have 16 planes and 20 airports spread across North & South America that are currently doing very well. I am a level 21 and beginning to expand to Europe and Africa with 4 airports in Madrid, London, Cairo, and Lagos. That said, I only have 2 Aeroeagles and 2 Pearjets that can make the trans-atlantic flight. The rest of my planes are Equinoxes that work well in N & S America. How do you think I should continue my expansion and what planes should I invest in? I only have class 2 and class 3 airports at present. Also, should I save up to upgrade my planes to make them more profitable or invest in new planes? Thanks.
At least upgrade your pearjets and aeroeagles to reduce their weight and increase range. Actually, you should upgrade the weight reduction for all of them if you haven't already. Upgrading the speed of your trams-Atlantic planes is up to you really.
Does anyone here know how to get the longest flight from Nome to Wellington non-stop? I can't think of how it would be done. Thanks!
@alex: there was some discussion about it on the previous page. Basically though, since they are both class 1 airports, you'll have to use either the Mohawk or supergopher (with fully upgraded range) and set up a chain of airports from nome to Wellington. I haven't checked, but I think the Mohawk and the supergopher might be able to make the hop from nome to anadyr in far eastern Russia.
Does anyone have any recommendations to help me out? I'm getting stuck. I currently have LA, Dallas, Detroit, NY in North America. I have almost all my aircraft flying between these four. I also own London, Istanbul, and Beijing. I can only get to those with my starship for now, but I'm planning to have that straight line across the world for high level class 3's later on. I'm only level 12 currently.
First, should I just keep trying to work across the world like that or should I move down into South America instead?
Secondly, what aircraft will I gain access to next which I will want to start using for crossing the ocean?
And third, my plan is to use kangaroo-m's around the US to transport around, while using higher level planes to do the ocean crossing long flights and continue around the world. Should I branch out more around the world other than just class 3's?
Ok nvm about the next big plane. The wiki has a lot of good info on them. Any tips would be much appreciated. I'm really thinking of selling everything overseas and just moving into south America until level 28, then getting all cloudliners and moving back across the world.
Our strategy guide lists all the details about planes and what level you get them, as well as strategies for playing. Plus, there's a lot of good info here in the comments from questions and answers posted previously.
At level 12, you don't yet have aircraft to connect up with your overseas airports, but soon you will. At level 14 you'll get the pearjet and level 16 the aeroeagle, and both of those can make the transatlantic trip. You can even get a class 1 plane across from the north eastern tip of Brazil to to west Africa, but I don't recommend using class 1 planes for that. Getting the cities of Recife and Lagos is a good strategy for enabling intercontinental travel using class 2 and 3 planes. That's what I did.
For strategy moving forward, I'd keep a mixture of planes, a couple class 1s, several class 2s, and a couple class 3s, and have each type focus on what its good at.
You could still go and use a class 1 plane to grab the achievement if you wanted to. I'm planning on doing that, however, im busy working on the 100 jobs for Barrow, Punta Arenas, and Easter Island atm.
On top of that, my slow upgrading of the anans and airvans to mohawks is stalled until the update that fixes the hangar bug comes in.
Although, while the mohawks don't really perform any better than the anans and airvans (actually, their performance is taking a temporary hit right now due to me working on the 100 jobs achievements) , the ones that I'm replacing don't have the range for some parts of South America.
How do i get the trans Atlantic achievement? I cross the dang pond between the us and uk as well as sa and Africa constantly but no achievement is granted. Also I have 26 open airports and many more that I have opened and closed but still have not been credited with opening 20 airports. What am I missing?
It sounds like you are experiencing a common bug with the Pocket Planes achievements. Unfortunately, there is no current fix for this issue, but it will be addressed in the upcoming Update 1.0.4 which is estimated to be released some time this week. At that time you will not need to reset your game, but you may need to reset your achievements from the Settings menu.
Has anyone seen a comprehensive guide to levels and rewards? I'm at Level 21 and at this point I'm really playing to get the Concorde... but if it's not released until, say, Level 40, then I'm going to call it quits now, because that could take months.
Hi Frank, have you read our Tips & Tricks section: All About Planes > Complete List of Planes Available for Purchase By Level? In there you will find a comprehensive guide to levels and the planes awarded for each.
The Concorde is a special rare plane that is a reward for special events only.
Actually, there is an event called Concorde ceremony or something. Its one of the random events that appear after some number of hours. Maybe keep an eye out for it as that's how you get the plane?
Actually, I'm not sure if you can get the plane through that specific event.
@trinn: if I reset the achievements, would that mean I'd have to do the '100 jobs' achievement airports all over again?
From my understanding, after you reset your achievements you may have to complete just 1 job again for each of those "100 jobs" achievements to trigger the check to see if you've completed it.
UPDATE: It's been reported that with the 1.0.4 update, now the number of jobs you've completed for each of the "100 jobs" achievements DOES get reset when you reset the achievements.
Thanks Jay, just wanted to make sure I didn't have to do them over again with an achievements reset.
Has anyone finished 1000 of the regular events yet to know if there is a completion prize? I'm very curious, but also nowhere near completed on any of them.
I haven't yet. My guess is you'll get a simple check mark next to the 1000 jobs event showing that you completed it.
The next question will be: What happens when you complete 1000 jobs for all 46 events?
Is it possible to use a class 2 plane to go from Honolulu to Tokyo? I'm just wondering, although the range circle doesn't seem to be able to wrap to the other side of the map, so I couldn't tell if my birchcraft could make it when I was doing the Aloha achievement.
Any expansion is stalled for now while I finish the last two '100 jobs' achievements as is changing the airvans over to Mohawks until the update comes out. However, since I'm spread throughout the Americas (still need to get buenos aieres and Sao Paulo or rio de janeiro), I'm wondering where I might expand to next. Maybe Asia....
Thanks for the tip on the list of planes -- I hadn't seen that. At level 21, I feel like I've really played out the strategy aspect of this game. When I play it, I'm making extremely trivial decisions about which destinations and cargo/passengers to choose. A bot playing my strategy would be mind-numbingly simple at this point. I enjoyed my run, but I think I'm done; I don't want to keep playing an indefinite period to *maybe* get a Concorde, as fun as that would be.
@Frank: Nimblebit is considering rewarding players with some type of award or achievement for completing the regular events in the next version release. Until then, they suggested to hold off completing any missions if you want to get something for the effort.
He said he was nowhere close to 1000 for any of them anyways, heck, the highest one I have is 77 for tourist boom, and that was because it happened early on when I didn't have very many airports, so I managed to do a lot of them.
My closest is 120ish, so NB has some time to fix this. (Surprising that they didn't think of this from the beginning though.)
Pearjets or aeroeagles? I can't decide which to beef up the arsenal with.
Version (1.0.4) now available!
Be sure to update your game right away as this update has lots of improvements and bug fixes (spoilered for length):
New game guide! Tapping the info button in the top right of a screen will load the game guide to the appropriate section.
Tapping and holding a load or unload button on the Jobs Screen now auto-loads/unloads all jobs with the same destination.
Pulling the list down on the Jobs Screen now gives you an option to refresh the current jobs.
Local (non Flight Crew) events now give a bux prize when completed.
City cap increased by two.
iCloud sync can now be disabled in the device settings.
Plane cargo now automatically removed when plane is moved to the hangar.
Minimum contribution to earn prize now shown on Flight Crew prize screen.
Costume unlocks now saved per plane.
Improved game startup time.
Fixed bug where planes can be stuck without a trip and can't be accessed.
Fixed crash when viewing planes list with no active planes.
Fixed bug where plane upgrades and stats were lost when hangared.
Fixed multiple achievement bugs.
Fixed bug where some screens would stay loaded in background and steal input.
Fixed crash when editing plane name while landing.
Fixed spelling of Oceania.
Fixed bug allowing plane upgrades in-flight.
Fixed bug where bux or coins could go negative.
So, you see, quite a lot of stuff has been fixed and improved!
Guess what, the update actually restored the flight data and upgrades for some of them in the hangar, however, others still lost their data anyway and would like a refund for them.
I started north america and orlando then charleston were the first 2 airports i bought 3rd was new york at lvl 7 i or something. Goose bay is now the ge and i have quebec and thunderbay. Im gonna expand to los angels then across atlantic. Gonna get concorde for the big trips, is this a good setup because im lvl 13 going 14 for pearjet, have 240 bux
Er, selecting and holding a loaded job unloads all of them rather than just the ones to the destination city. Not sure if that is intentional or not. Still extremely useful though.
They also added a close button to the popup messages, saves a couple seconds of time there.
I forgot to tell u i was, randomly playing on my ipad and the pp screen stayed but the plane was flipping and a siren came. I thought my plane was crash landing switched to a different plane the back and it was normal.wtf it happend on 2nd day i played an i think nb tried to scare me
@dsparks442: I don't think there was a siren involved, but ive had the airplane go upside down randomly, I just close PP and reopen it or switch planes and then it's fine.
The first time it happened, I thought PP was bugging out, but it is just a random glitch and a harmless one at that.
So, has anyone been able to get across the Aleutians between say nome and tiksi or one of the other class one airports over there? If so, how did you do it? I bought the airports had the max range class one plane there and tried to figure out how but..... Thanks
@jay and trinn, will you please check your facts because I DO have to recomplete the 100 jobs achievements :P
Most everything else retriggered though.
I love how now you can open two new airports. At the higher levels when one is saving up his bux and have been at 15 planes for awile it's harder to get to that next level.
GC = pezkingjs
I apologize if there was a misunderstanding, but what have I said that was not factual?
@trinn: It was mainly aimed at jay about 'The number of jobs you've completed for each one does not get reset when you reset the achievements.' since I didn't want to have to do them over again.
At least I have the airport network and plenty of planes to work on three of them at the same time. I know it would be easier to do it one at a time, but I have the airports open for those. Heck, I could probably Zerg rush two of them at once (one at a time of course).
Thanks for clarifying it. I'll update my previous comment about that then. It must be new with the 1.0.4 update that the 100 jobs achievement totals are getting reset because people had reported that they were not getting reset prior to the latest update and all they had to do was complete 1 job for each to trigger it.
Anyways, does anybody know what the average profit/ hour (or at least the cost difference of a flight) would be for a Mohawk with all upgrades vs one with only max range and weight reduction?
I'm asking because I made some of my new Mohawks not have the speed upgrades and tried to use the profit/hour to compare them, but the whole thing with the flights for the 100 jobs cities screwed up their usual routes I was planning on removing and then recommising the Mohawks when I had the bux to do so, but it's delayed by the fact that I have to do the 100 jobs again.
Actually, I'm not even sure if my layout is efficient or the way I'm doing it is efficient.
Also, the log screen really needs to be a graph IMO, it'd be a lot easier to interpret it if you can see the history.
The answer to your question depends on the source and destination cities of the route, of course, but I think you can assume the difference to be very small. Perhaps only a couple hundred coins. You might find these Pocket Planes Tools helpful with that sort of thing.
Cool, thanks, I didn't even know that existed.
@lightek: it looks like we can't due to the fact that the game can't wrap the routes at the edge of the map. The page that jay linked to seems to support that.
Still, has anybody been able to get from Honolulu to Asia?
I done 22 jobs and counting, whos the clan in front of us
I have no idea, that group has been in first just about every time.
Why aren't my global event jobs showing up properly after completion? Event page says I've done 3 of the current crew mission but I know I've done at least 20
@Theo Newton:Why aren't my global event jobs showing up properly after completion? Event page says I've done 3 of the current crew mission but I know I've done at least 20
That has happened to me too so I guess it is a bug.
It does sometimes catch up though.
It seems that, after the upgrade, the floating Bux in the headwind of a plane in flight are much less frequent than before the upgrade. Or I was just lucky previously.
Anyway, makes participation in GE's even more important.
@P1: I've noticed that as well with the global event jobs, seems like it just takes some time to update. It updates every some number of minutes rather than real time.
Jay does seem to have some unusually awesome powers on this site. Weird coincidence that he shares a first name with the site creator too.
*waves magic wand*
can anyone please tell me when my ranking will update. i've been playing for some 3 weeks now and it continuously says it will update shortly?
Are you running the latest version? I'd make sure you update your app, if you haven't already.
Since the Flight Crew updates don't happen in real time, you have to be patient and check back in a bit when it says "will update shortly". Whenever I've seen that message, the update has always occurred within a few minutes to an hour.
If you never see anything other than "will update shortly" then you should post a trouble ticket on Nimblebit's customer support page.
It can also say that when you haven't done any jobs for that mission yet.
i had a massive update yesterday. will post the fault. thanks :)
ah. it seems my rank will only update if i contribute to the global event and not the other small events or by the number of jobs i do in total.
Elainerory, the rank is only for the global event, it doesn't track the rank for normal events.
381 jobs done so far =p
Does anyone know if I can pick up my game file on an ipad? I've been playing on my iphone, but I think I'm going to buy an ipad. Can I move my saved game over to it?
Yes, by enabling iCloud in the settings (I even think it's enabled by default) you can play the same game on either device.
I,ve done 107 jobs and #232 in flight crew
How do you create any of your class one airports into a class two airport?
Airports cannot have their class changed. A Class 1 airport will always be a Class 1.
(1) The rankings for the global events, is that per plane load or by passenger/cargo count?
(2) Class 2 and 3 airports/airplanes; Do you keep class 2 airports around as you move up or do you phase them out in favor of larger class 3 airports?
1. I'm guessing cargo/passengers because you have to have done a minimum of 5 jobs to qualify for a prize.
2. Depends on your strategy I guess? Definetly phase out class 1s though. Although I did keep Havana for quite a long time because it was an important halfway point going from one side of the carribean to the other and later as a midway point for flights crossing the carribean to cities deeper into S America and N America.
To clarify, I meant class 1 airports.
The rankings go by how many items or people you have delivered. I'm not sure if the 5 jobs required are how many times you've flown at least 1 thing there or by when you drop 5 things off and get paid. I know the leaderboards are constructed by ranking how many items or people have been delivered.
I keep a few class 2 airports around, but not many. I think 13 of the 19 airports I have open are class 3. The class 2 I have are all either feeder routes or part of my large plane routes.
Does this game ever turn your world upside down?
Spoilering this just to be safe. Stop reading if you don't want to know.
So I read somewhere up there ^^^ where someone mentioned a siren and their plane upside down. I assumed they were just messing with us...but it just happened to me. Immediately after takeoff, an alarm/siren sounded and the plane is flying from San Francisco to New York upside down. All four passengers and the pilot have their mouths wide open. Everything else about it seems normal. I even flipped the phone over and they oriented themselves back into the upside down position. No events in the departure or destination city, and nothing special about any of the passenger names that I see.
I took a couple of screenies in case anyone wants a copy. Can post a link later, or Jay, maybe you would like me to send them directly to you for the guide.
I haven't seen that yet. Been hoping to though haha. I just hit lvl 18 today and I don't think I'm going to upgrade any planes until I hit the Cloudliner. A plan that's been working well for me is:
NY(lvl 3) > Madrid > Tehran > Beijing(lvl 3)
NY Feeder Cities: LA, Mex City, Dallas, Detroit, Goose Bay(for the event only)
Beijing Feeder Cities: Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Shenyang.
I also own London and Karachi as backups.
I use Kangaroo-M's to stock up NY with layovers. My aeroeagles and pearjets pick them up in NY and fly to one of the Asian airports. When they arrive, I stock them up with the top paying jobs(bux are always top priority), then fly them to beijing. I unload everything into beijing and fill up with whatever I can. Then I fly the pearjets/aeroeagles back to the USA, drop off the people/packages at whichever airport they go to. I stock up the plane again, then fly to NY. I put more layovers there, fill up the plane, and head back to Asia. Whenever NY is full of layovers, I use my kangaroos to fly around the USA and make small bits of $.
@jonathan: I've actually had that multiple times, though not recently.
Thanks for all the tips. After this challenge, I will probably close all the Class 2 airports on the east coast, but *might* keep Dallas open.
Is there a list somewhere that shows the distances between say the Class 1 Airports?
