I'm up to level 28 and the only class 1 airports I have are the ones needed for the achievements I'm working on. If a global event occurs at a class 1 airport then I open it for that and close it right afterwards.

That said, you should do what works for you and your particular situation, realizing that any change in your airport configuration will likely disrupt your revenue flow until you come to grips with the new layout and organization. The larger class airports are certainly better since they can hold more layovers and will yield more jobs at a time, but some smaller class airports may be necessary due to the limited range of the smaller planes.

One of the keys to earning huge revenues from jobs in this game is by having a long, sprawling network of airports, since the cost of any job is determined by how far away it is from its destination. Keep that in mind when you decide where to expand.

As for me, I let the global events dictate where I expanded. I had started in Brazil and the first global event was in Calgary, so I opened an airport there and another in the Class 2 airport of Seattle. Once that event was over, I closed Calgary (class 1) and kept Seattle open, but then linked to it by opening Miami. Then the most expensive jobs became those going to and from Seattle, my furthest point in my network.

The next global event was in Brisbane, so I opened that up and Sydney to shuttle jobs back and forth. Australia at the time was too far removed from my network to connect them, so it was of very little value to me. It wasn't until I was able to add Sydney to my growing, sprawling network did I realize the increased value of jobs going to and from this furthest point in my network.

I hope that helps make your own decision about what's best for you. :)

You'll get that message from time to time when the Pocket Planes server is too busy to process your request for an update. Rest assured, it will get updated eventually, you just have to be patient.

Mystery Parts

During some global events we have seen mystery parts (highlighted in orange) show up as jobs going to the global event city. These jobs show up very rarely, so you may have to play a while before seeing one.

These parts, when delivered, will give you a part to a special aircraft that is being given away as prizes for the current global event. For example, in Calgary, the mystery part was a part to a Warhawk. In Brisbane, the mystery part was a part to a Huey. And today's mystery part going to Philadelphia is a part to a Sea Knight.

Hey all! First of all, thanks for the great page and info on pocket planes. It's my new addiction (as though I needed another). Anyway, I'm distressed to learn about the Mystery parts, it leaves me in a bit of a quandary. I'm level 21 and have most level 2 and 3 cities in America, and also several in Europe. Around level 11 or 12, I made the decision to switch to transporting people only. Trying to keep the right mix of "people" planes and "cargo" planes proved to be quite stressful. So I now have all "people" planes, including three big class 3 planes shuttling people over the Atlantic. Now I learn about the fun orange mystery parts. I can't decide whether or not to add the cargo options again. Has anyone else made the switch to only using one or the other? Any suggestions?


Oh, hmm, yes, I suppose that would pose a bit of a problem. I can't offer any suggestion other than to do what I've done, which may not be what you want to hear.

I ran into the same issue playing (keeping the right mix of people and cargo planes was troublesome) so I decided to use only "M" type planes, thus always having a relatively equal mix of people and cargo. That's worked out well for me.

There are achievements for transporting 10,000 people and 10,000 cargo, which you won't be able to complete with a people-only airlines. So, that's another issue you will run into, if you care about that sort of thing.

You could easily try having a cargo-only plane for the global events, or at the very least an "M" type, but finding the Mystery Parts is definitely a rare event, so you are likely find one with one of your people-only planes instead.

I was afraid that's what you were going to say. I had always anticipated adding cargo capabilities back in once my airline was larger - I just didn't anticipate how fast the cost of new airplanes would increase. Maybe I'll start slow by adding a couple of multi-planes, and go from there.

Using the "Hanger" and Global Events

One strategy I'm not sure I've seen mentioned before (sorry if I overlooked it), is the fact that you can use the "hanger" to teleport planes to another location (e.g., from your fleet in North America to your fleet in Africa).

There is no need to build a chain of airports to allow you to start flying in a new region, just open up a new airport in the new region and pull a plane from your hanger to start servicing that region.

Likewise, when an "event" happens in a region of the world you don't have airports, just open up a first new airport where the event is, and a second new airport at a large city near the event, pull a plane out of your hanger, and start shuttling between the two cities. After the event, you can put the plane back in the hanger and close the two new airports (if you want to).

Question - what is the general consensus regarding which plane of the same class to choose - Capacity, range or speed?

Slowly, I am removing my Kangaroo's from service and I'm tossing up between Birchcraft's or Equinox's for a replacement.

Will be using them to fan out deliveries from the hubs, which are being serviced by Aeroeagle's.

Started in Australia, (which is where I'm from), have closed all my C1 airports (Except for Darwin, which will go once the Kangaroo's go) and now focusing around Asia C2's and C3's.

Hi snipper, the Hanger is definitely good to use for the reasons you mentioned, and I somewhat implied doing that for the global events if you don't have an airport nearby, but I didn't spell it out as clearly as you did. I'll make it more clear in my post about the Flight Crew. Thanks for the helpful advice! :)


Hi Nathan, personally, I've been using a variety of plane types, and they all seem good for what they're best at. So, I don't know whether to recommend one type over another, especially since your play style may be different than mine. I still use Kangaroos for events when a class 1 city is required, and the rest of my fleet is composed of aeroeagles, pearjets, fogbusters, a tetra, sequoia, cyclone, and a couple cloudliners. I have so many planes now that speed isn't as important to me as capacity. I'd much rather a plane full of jobs take an hour to get to its destination so i have time to work on all the other planes that are boarding. And range isn't a major issue, because you can hop over multiple cities to get to a destination. Range can, however, help to create a route that is closest to a straight line, which helps to maximize profit. So, I guess it really depends on your play style and your airline configuration and layout.


Hey guys still trying to figure this game out but great tips on here. I'm currently level 20 and operate in all class 2 and 3 airports in the US. And a small trail of class 1s to Barrow, Alaska for the achievement. I operate 4 cargo equinox and 4 passenger equinox with 1 cargo and passenger pearjets. A multi kangaroo and the sea knight for the barrow runs. Got 2 aeroeagles in the hanger cause they are just to inefficient to run regionally.

Class 1 - navigators are my favorite, easy to fill and pretty quick and fuel efficient.
Class 2 - equinox hands down best regional jets, easy to fill and fast.
Class 3 - just got the fogbuster and no use for it yet.

Pearjet is fast but hard to fill at regional, use as taxi between two distant class 3 airports.
Aeroeagles just 1 more spot than the pearjets but slower just go with the pearjet.

So I was wondering if it's more efficient to use M planes instead of 1 passenger and 1 cargo. If anyone has tested this please share your findings.


I've mentioned before in a couple of comments here that I ran into a problem early on using C and P type aircraft and so I converted to a strictly M type fleet and I think that works best. Buy more plane slots and get those aeroeagles in the sky. You have all class 2 and 3 airports, but no use for the fogbuster? You need to take things to the next level, it sounds like to me. Happy flying. :)


are you going to open up pacific crossings. my entire fleet run mostly in the west and flying to Europe or Africa to get to Australia and Japan seems to be a waste of time and fuel.

To remove unwanted layovers just touch the little red (X) button that displays in the top corner of the picture icon for that job. That will remove the layover status for the job, and that job will disappear once you refresh the jobs list.


@Chris For me, my M class planes are my lowest earners. Even lower than my Navigator! So I doubt I'd actually buy more in the future


I just completed the latest event in Cape Town with over 100 jobs but I still don't get an single bux

[I've never not received the prize for the global event, but you have to be patient. Try exiting out of the game and then coming back. That usually does it for me. If that doesn't work, wait a while and then try again. Eventually you will get the prize, I'm sure of it. -Jay]

[It's located in north-eastern Asia. You can always see exactly where the Global Event city is on the map by clicking Events from the game menu, then clicking on the blue event, the first in the list. That will take you directly to the map where the city is located. -Jay]

A couple questions. 1) In the item menu when boarding a plane, how are the items listed? It looks like city, but some cities like to shuffle themselves, like Chicago and Toronto. 2) Do you, Jay, determine the next GE when the last one expires or is it assigned to you? 3) Is there a listing other than in-game for cities and their levels and prices, planes and their prices, capacity and levels, etc? 4) Has anyone determined whether is is more efficient to hit several cities in one long flight vs. make short "legs" picking up more items each time so your plane is never completely empty?

Loving PP, trying to work out some strategy issues. Level 20, but I restarted after day 8 to get out of Australia!!


Hi localnourishment, here are some answers to your questions:

  1. Jobs are sorted by distance from the city you're at, farthest first. And jobs for the same destination are sorted by job cost, most profitable first. I have seen some exceptions to that, like some shuffling as you mention, but generally those rules hold true.

  2. I don't determine the next GE, Nimblebit does.

  3. We'll work on such a listing, as I think that would be a nice thing to have for our walkthrough.

  4. It is definitely more efficient to always carry a full plane since it doesn't cost anything extra to transport a job. Always make short legs versus one long flight hitting several cities to drop off jobs as you go. Always make sure that last leg to the destination for a job is done with a full plane for the 25% bonus, whenever possible.

Whats everybodys opinions on the Kangaroo? I'm looking to replace the two navigators (Nav C and Nav P) in my fleet, but I'm kind of divided between getting the kangaroos or the mohawks. Both have similar ranges, but the Kangaroo is slower while carrying four and the mohawk is faster while carrying three.

My fleet is a mixture of Anans and Airvans with two mohawks and a sea knight. Also, to whoever said they don't like the M types, I have two (an Anan and Airvan M) and I find them useful in moving cargo and passengers around.

Anyways, anybody have any ideas on how I should expand? Heres a screenshot of my current airports as I thought it would describe it better.

Also, I'm thinking of getting Atlanta once I have the cash since it will help as a midway point between the Gulf and Philadelphia.


Can someone explain how the bux works with 25% bonus? I know I've seen the posting before being an avid reader, but can't recall how it worked. Also, do you gain more experience from bux flights or coin passengers. I feel more obligated taking a passenger paying $1500 than offering 3-5 bux.

The 25% bonus for Bux jobs is awarded in coins, not Bux, using a conversion rate of 500 coins per Bux. Delivering 4 jobs at 1 Bux each would earn 4 Bux + 500 coins in total value of the job (your net profit will, of course, be less depending on the cost of the flight).

The same with experience points. You earn 1 experience point per coin in the total value of the job, with Bux jobs equaling 500 coins per Bux. So, a 3 Bux job is worth 1,500 experience points, the same as a 1,500 coin job.


Thanks for that Jay! I feel the Global events needs to be better structured. There isn't any real competition if the #1 group is ALWAYS going to win #1 slot let alone the 2nd-10th slots having the same prize. I feel other factors should also play into which team wins the global event! But I fear I am preaching to the choir :-D


Yeah, I know, but I think that's why there's very little difference in prizes between #1 and #'s 2 through 10. It at least gives other sites (like us) the ability to have a community built around the game and compete as a group. :)

Magadan - currently 100th but will fall as I have gotten 30 jobs and have moved my airplanes back to South and North America and closed both airports

Right now my coins are at 4,211 and my goal is to hold out using many bux until I reach 10,000 which will then yield 55,000,000 coins. That means that each bux I send is worth 5,500.

That means that if I send a VIP person from Moscow to Seattle or San Fransico or Los Angeles which is worth 6 Bux that would rake in 33,000 in the long run. Craziness.

I have every class 2 and class 3 airport open in North and South America (no class 1) and I have Moscow and Istanbul open.

GC = Pezkingjs up to level 27


Overseas strategy question: Do you have a "staging area" for cargo and passengers or do you send a plane over and make the rounds?

Right now I have (2) Aeroeagle-P and (1) Aeroeagle-C that I modded the gas tank to make it from the East Coast to London and Madrid. For the Moscow challenge I used some of my larger Class 1s to move cargo and passengers and have somewhat of a back log in cargo out of Madrid right now. I'm waiting until LVL 20 to open the Class 3 planes with larger capacity to make the run across the pond.

Any thoughts?

@rob mazur: You could try using either the Mohawk or supergopher (which looks a bit like the Spirit of Saint Louis actually) to go from portaleza or Recife to Monrovia where the atlantic is narrowest.

smjjames, Go for the Class 3 airports, Los Angeles, New York, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro, etc., and start closing some of the smaller airports. You're feeling stuck because you're highly localized right now and I think it's time you consider reducing the number of airports in the tight region you have and start spreading out.

It really doesn't matter where you go as long as it's away from where you are right now. You don't need so many airports close together as you move up in level and gain access to the higher class aircraft that can travel long distances. Invest in the Class 3 airports because those will becoming increasingly more important as you get further in the game.

Does it cost more to transport a Bux job than a Gold job?

When I attempt a Bux job it always results in a loss, whereas if I take a Gold job to the same destination I make a profit.


How can I do a a flight form nome and Wellington any tips

P1, they don't cost more, the bux jobs simply don't pay for the gas, which is why you're seeing a loss.

@jordan: well, since those are class 1 airports, maybe try a supergopher (longest ranged class 1 plane) with fully upgraded fuel tanks?

I'm having some trouble making a good profit with the birchcraft (or should I say Beechcraft, heh), any ideas?

One thing I like about the devs is how they took the names of some familiar types of planes and changed it a bit, gives them some creativity. At least two of them are anyway, the birchcraft is named after the beechcraft and the pearjet is named after the learjet. Anybody know if any of the others are named after real craft with a small name change?


As I mentioned before, profit in this game comes from transporting jobs from far away, so your airlines must stretch far and wide.

Nome to Wellington is an achievement for a good reason, they represent the 2 furthest points on the map. You'll find jobs for Wellington around Nome (or vice versa) will appear for up to 12 Bux and up to 2,500 coins each. Those are the highest paying jobs I've seen. Unfortunately, they're not Class 3 airports, so you'll have to transport them from Los Angeles to Jakarta (or vice versa) and then ship them to their destination with lower class planes (and always make sure you're getting the 25% on the last leg whatever you do).

You might be able to use an aeroeagle with fully upgraded fuel tanks to go from Honolulu to Tokyo.

However, the thing though is the nonstop part of that. I thought it meant no layovers?

If you dont mind taking the long way and have lots of cash, one idea could be to use a fully upgraded supergopher, take the greenland-iceland route or go down through South America and cross over at the Atlantic narrowest point, then cross through Europe or Africa ( depending on the route) journey through Asia, Australia, and finally, Wellington.


A few posts ago localnourishment suggested a listing of airport cities, their level and prices.
This is a great idea.
My own city listing is alphabetically by name and class which I have spoilered for length.

If you set your iphone's clock ahead you can shorten flight times in game. 20 minute flight takes off --> set phone 20 minutes ahead --> Flight instantly lands at destination.. How is this monitored for global challenges?


Is there any way to see what class an airport is before purchasing it?


I believe upgrading speed of a plane actually decreases profit of a route. Sure, the flipside is you have the potential to run more routes, but this will not necessarily always be the case.

Just something to consider before automatically upgrading everything.

You can always save them up for later. I already have the parts to build one, just don't have enough space for it right now.

It would be so much more fun if that were a class 1 craft, but for gameplay balance reasons, it's class 3.


So, first thing. Current global event is Comic Convention and for now We are second over all and I'am exactly tenth. So, to win the starship our team have to be at first 10 or I have to be in first 10?? And second thing any one know which team is first over all at the moment? Sory for any mistakes :D


The Starship is actually useless. You loose money flying it, I got one fully upgraded and some spear parts.


Just to be clear, KS, *you* lose money flying it...and while I do not have any actual experience with it to know definitely, I am reasonably certain that will not be the case for everyone.

As an example, when I first bought class 2 planes, they made far less than my class 1 planes. In fact, they still do if you evaluate each plane separately...however, the cl2 planes enabled the cl1 planes to be more profitable (by hauling fares around the world to hubs for the cl1 planes to deliver for more profit).


Also, in addition to what Jonathan said, when you upgrade the speed of an aircraft you reduce the amount profit it's able to produce. So, a fully upgraded aircraft is not the model of efficiency you might think it is.


To win the starship, our team must come within the top 10, which is not going to be a problem since we have been clinching the #2 spot for most of the global events so far. You only have to complete at least 5 blue global event jobs to be included and win the prize. #1 in our team gets the same prize as #1000, as long as you have JAYISGAMES set as your flight crew in the game. :)


Should i try to buy London and new York. Or Lagos and rio de janeiro

I have a problem with the GE. I've been carting blue items all day and figured I must be around 1000, so I open the "events" tab in the menu and click the checkmark at the bottom. The Comic Convention does not show up on the list! Are my items not counting? Why isn't it there? Did I do something wrong? Is there a limit to how many GEs one can participate in per x number of days?


The GE is a global event, not to be confused with normal "events" that occur daily. To see your total and ranking for the GE, open the "Flight Crew" from the game menu. There is no limit to the number of times you can participate in any event.

Rod: the mystery part is just like any other job in that there is a value assigned to the job in either coins or bux. That value will be increased by 25% if delivered to its destination city in a plane full of jobs for the same destination.

I fully upgraded all of my planes already :p. Does that mean I should buy another of the same type, upgrade all but the speed (tbh though, there isnt much of an affect in reducing the time it takes anyway, maybe a minute at most?) and sell off the old ones?

smjjames: it's not much, but it could add up depending on distance of the flight. You can estimate it roughly at 5%, 10% or 15% of the cost (depending on the speed upgrade you have), though the formula is a bit more complex than that depending on the whether there's any weight upgrades as well.

The actual formula that determines cost is: ((speed x weight)/400) x (distance x 0.2493)

Where speed and weight can vary depending on upgrades. Speed becomes greater with upgrades, so cost increases; while weight becomes less with upgrades, so cost decreases.

Okay, I did a quick test with a wallaby c and while it does decrease by a few gold, with both upgrades combined to max, it's actually 9 or 10 more than it would be unupgraded.

Seems worth it to fully upgrade and get the speed boost.


Yes, I think it would be pretty close. In fact, here's an example:

from Los Angeles to New York
Cost with no upgrades: 628 coins
Cost with max speed upgrade only: 721 coins
Cost with max weight upgrade only: 534 coins
Cost with max speed and max weight upgrades: 613 coins

The ideal situation (for max profit) is to upgrade weight only. Speed becomes less a factor later on when you have so many planes that they've landed well before you're able to service them.

I have 24 planes right now and I can just barely keep them all in the air at once. Most of my early planes were fully upgraded. Most of my later planes have not been upgraded at all (except for range when needed).

That's definitely a good point. I think I'm going to do just that since I haven't upgraded any of my high capacity planes yet.

Honestly though, everybody is going to have a different strategy and method for doing that route, so, I'd say experiment around and see what works.

I believe all Class 3 planes have an adequate range to make the NY to London trip. I don't have a Class 3 that can't. Also, the Aeroeagle and Pearjet can make the trip as well.

That said, the Nome to Wellington achievement trip must be done with a Class 1 plane, since Nome and Wellington are Class 1 airports. So, you're going to need a lot of cities throughout the route you decide to take since the range of Class 1 aircraft is pretty small even with the range upgrades. I believe I used an upgraded Mohawk for that trip.


My Pearjets fly between New York and London, but only with max range upgraded. (Important to note as more than once I've forgotten this and had planes that couldn't make the flight while I saved up enough bux to upgrade.)

Actually, with the starship, you could take them from Los Angles to Jakarta or Manila, easily. I don't know if nonstop refers to the passengers or cargo not being layovered, so doing that might not count for the achievement. However, if it is possible to transfer them for the achievement, then Jordan could grab one of the southeast Asia class 3 airports and grab LA. Just an idea.

Also, I haven't tested, but I suspect a fully upgraded supergopher or Mohawk (the longest and second longest ranged class 1 planes) could make the Beiring strait crossing, so you could go down eastern Asia that way.


Non-stop means just that, the plane cannot stop at any city along the way. The route must be a continuous selection of cities extending from Nome, AK to Wellington, NZ. The Starship is a Class 3 aircraft and is therefore ineligible for the flight.

Right. Still, it can be used for when you want to make money off of the route. Whether its profitable to use it for a money making route (as opposed to getting the achievement), I have no idea. Not sure if there are other class 3 planes that can make the LA to Jakarta/Manila route in one leg, maybe the Concorde, but that's a rare plane.

The Starship is a fun aircraft in terms of novelty, but I wouldn't use it to make money in this game. Its potential profit per hour is low due to its high speed, ironically, and its low capacity. It has a capacity of only 3, so those jobs had better be all high paying Bux jobs, or you'll likely be losing money, as someone pointed out earlier.
