Lo.Nyan's Room Escape 10

elleAs soon as you click past the opening title, you realize Lo.Nyan's Room Escape 10 is an escape game in more than one sense of the word. First, in the most basic sense, the premise—you are locked inside a room and must use your wits and logic to work your way out. Added to that are gorgeous surroundings, a generous suite poshly appointed in modern décor, and you know your experience here has turned into a mini-break: an escape from the standard milieu. You suddenly feel you have won a contest you didn't even enter, one in which a funny little cat and very nervous toy robot whisked you away to a seaside sanctuary, and think to not bother solving the puzzles set before you. Yet every surface invites exploration and, as you explore, you find clues tempting you to open locks and discover more swanky scenes.

Lo.Nyan's Room Escape 10As elegantly out-of-the-ordinary this escape is, it's still played the usual way. Click to navigate the room, pick up items and explore your inventory. Arrows that appear at the sides or bottom of the screen indicate where you can turn or back-up. While the cursor is unchanging, a clean design promises no pixel hunts. Unless you can read Japanese, some actions are left to inference and, adding to the exploratory feel, there are several areas where you can look yet not all hide something functional. In this way, discoveries feel more like discoveries as you probe your surroundings. If taking screenshots is your usual methodology for escaping, Lo.Nyan has you in mind for the user-friendly camera feature: take snapshots of certain areas then pull-up those pictures when solving visual puzzles. Because this feature also gives away what is a clue and what isn't, don't pick up the camera if you want a more challenging experience. Even so, this installment is easier than the previous one as each clue leads smoothly into the next.

It's so pretty, with so many interesting pieces of furniture and art, you might be disappointed that you can't zoom some areas for better appreciation. It's on that downside that a hard-to-distinguish area leaves you guessing what works—at least, if you've found the secret item and are going for the perfect end. Which leads to the other drawback: since there's no save feature, you'll have to play twice to get both endings. Yet it's such a welcome delight to experience a full-on room escape, one with multiple rooms, atmospherically-presented clues and a progression of tactile puzzles, a few flaws hardly mar the glossy surface. It does leave you wishing for an English translation and might even inspire you to imagine a future Lo.Nyan's escape that can stand among the ranks of a Neutral or Tesshi-e creation. In the meantime, set aside 30 minutes-ish before you begin so you can take your time, chill in front of the tranquil vista and fully enjoy a deluxe vacation from normality.

Walkthrough
(With colorblind help)

This game has a camera mechanism that's pretty convenient - no note paper required. To take a picture of something, click the camera in your inventory, then click the view. When you encounter the puzzle that goes with a clue that you have a photo of, first zoom in on the buttons all the way. Next, use "about item" to bring up the photograph. It will have an arrow button next to the usual "X to close" button. Click the arrow. The photo will move out of the way so that the buttons will become accessible, but the code will still be viewable. Once you successfully enter the code, the photo will disappear.

  • Dining room

    • Get the camera from the table. Turn right.

    • Click to the left of the TV to see a pattern of colorful dots. Take a picture of them.

    • Click the table under the TV. That weird arch-shaped thingy is a tissue dispenser. Keep taking tissues until you get a piece of paper. Unfold it to see "SE".

    • Turn right. Look at the banner between the windows; take a picture of it.

    • Turn right again. Click the left side of the table and zoom in on the two buttons. Enter the code from the banner. Open the cabinet and get the white bead out of the porcelain box.

    • Click the top of the right side of the table and look behind the middle picture for a red bead.

    • The right leg of the table needs a three-digit code having to do with colors, which we don't have yet. You can also look at the stained-glass window, but there's nothing you can do with it at this point.

  • Living room

    • Click the hallway on the left and go forward to the other room. Turn left twice. Look at the box on top of the cabinet. Enter the code you found next to the TV. Get the silver trefoil key from the box.
Colorblind help: from left to right, 1-3-2-0 clicks. (Or just look for the black dots/squares.)

    • The cabinet doors need a three-digit code having to do with shapes, which we don't have yet. Turn left.

    • Take a picture of the numbers above the couch. Use the silver trefoil key to open the closet door to the right of the couch. Go in and get the green bead from the bulletin board. There are some shapes to the left, but it's too dark to see.

    • Go back out. You can lift the couch cushions, but there's nothing under them. Turn right and go forward to the dining room.

  • Dining room, take 2

    • Turn left twice and look at the right leg of the table. Enter the code from above the couch.
Colorblind help: you don't need to know which color is which, just enter the numbers in the same order as on the photo.

    • Open the door and get the dunce cap, ahem, sorry, flashlight.

  • Living room, take 2

    • Go forward to the living room and turn right. Enter the closet again and use the flashlight on the dark area to the left. Get the star.

    • Go back out and put the star in the space on the wall above the couch. Go into the closet again and look at the shapes. Take a picture.

    • Exit the closet and turn right. Look at the buttons on the cabinet door. Enter the shapes code. Open the cabinet. Take all of the tissues out of this dispenser. You will end up with a code paper, which unfolds to reveal a "W", and a white oval-shaped key.

  • Bedroom

    • Go forward into the hallway and use the oval key to open the bedroom door. Go in the room and turn right. Waste some more tissues, until you get a code paper that unfolds to reveal an "N".

    • You can look at the backside of the stained glass window to see a glass angel, but you can't do anything with it. You can also look at the wooden panels on the wall, but again, there's nothing you can do with them.

    • Turn left twice. There are some gray and black bars above the bed which appear to be humongous buttons; looks like we need a code for them.

    • Look at the nightstand. Take the box with the green compass star. The bottom door needs a five-digit code having to do with colors, but we don't know it yet.

    • Zoom in on the box and press the buttons corresponding to the directions on the code papers you've found, until the colors of said buttons match the colors of the letters.

So the southeast button should be white (one click), the west button should be gray (two clicks), and the north button should be black (three clicks).

Press the green star to open the box and get the tiny round key.

    • Turn right twice. Look at the glass case and use the tiny round key to open it. Get the code paper. Take a picture of the ring holder on the bottom. Pick up the robot and turn it around; get the black bead. Turn it some more until you can see the soles of its feet. Get the four-leaf clover.

    • Turn left twice and zoom in on the gray bars above the bed. Enter the grayscale code you just found in the glass case (this code paper works the same way as the photos you take). Take a picture of the new code that is revealed.

    • Look at the nightstand again and zoom in on the buttons. Enter the code from above the bed and click the oval button.
Colorblind help: just enter the numbers in the order provided, i.e. top to bottom becomes right to left.

    • Open the nightstand door and look at the strange box or remote or whatever the heck that is. Using the ring holder clue, put the beads on the appropriate posts, then move them up or down as indicated.
Colorblind help: the beads go, left to right, green-red-white-black. In your inventory, the beads are arranged white-red-black-green (the white and green are in the top row, and the red and black are in the bottom row).

    • When you're done, click the big white button. If you did it right, there will be a loud click. If you did it wrong, the beads will go back in your inventory.

    • Turn right twice to figure out what made that loud click. Turns out, it was the wooden panels opening to reveal the pattern of the stained-glass window, but there's still nothing you can do with the panels themselves.

  • Dining room, one last time

    • Go back out and go to the dining room. Turn to the stained-glass window. Click the panels as indicated. Open the window and get the gold trefoil key from the glass angel.

    • Turn right. Use the gold key to open the invisible door to the left of the windows. (Well, OK, so it's not invisible in the traditional sense, it just doesn't look anything like a door.) Click the hole in the cat tree and wait for the kitty to give you a new, purple key.

    • Go back and turn left. Use the purple key on the matching-colored door for the perfect end.

got nearly to the end with this but unfortunately the inventory panel broke once I got the

green four-leaf clover

The whole panel went black and I couldn't finish the game... bug? I guess.

four leaf clover is in the game

and maybe only serves to get the perfect end?

Regarding the 4-leaf clover:

It means nothing. You don't use it for anything. Not sure why it's even in the game.

@kurt
It does have a purpose actually.

The four leaf allows you to use the gold key to unlock the short door beside the two large windows. Doing so will lead to the perfect end.

I know, it does not really make sense. Personally, I thought this part of the game was unnecessary and not very rewarding. Of course, I probably feel this way since I played through the game again because I missed it my first go through.

I'm obviously missing something.

I have three tissues with SE, N, and W on them in different fonts. I have three colored balls (white, green, and red), I have the compass-rose box (but don't know how to open it) and the camera (I have used all of the photos I have taken). I don't know how to open the night-stand drawer or the glass cabinet.

Any help would be welcome.

I'm puzzled by

The box in the bottom of the night stand

.

I have

A green, red, and black knob, and a photograph of the arrangement from the glass cabinet.

Have I missed something?

Thanks, everyone.

I knew those were compass directions, and I knew the box was a compass rose... I just didn't figure that three was going to be enough.

I then

used the key on the main door, went back and found the four-leaf clover, but now don't know where the key is for the door next to the windows. Help?

You missed a knob. If I remember which is which correctly, it's behind something.

I REALLY liked this game! To me it's very user friendly!

Having the camera is AWESOME! And not only that, but being able to click on the pictures and see them while putting in codes is just fantastic!

I would love to see more of these! I also feel like this is one I can share with my friends who are not as familiar with the Escape genre.

Although, I would have to explain why the tissue boxes and flashlights look so weird, haha!
