Link Dump Fridays

DoraIt's Friday, and you know what that means. Creepy redhead ghosts doing some navel gazing. Bashing killer robots when all you want to do is round up some mushrooms. Staggering in bewilderment through an unsettling landscape of pianos and applause. Awwww yeah, now we're cookin'. With everything from platforming action, to surreal and baffling interactive art, Link Dump Friday covers all your bases no matter what you're feeling for the weekend. Everybody should start their free time off confused but exhilarated!

On a more serious note, I want to inform you fine folks that this will be the last Link Dump Friday we feature. Interest in it just isn't there anymore, and our time and efforts can be better spent elsewhere on other games and articles. Thanks for reading!

  • Awesome Mushroom HunterAwesome Mushroom Hunter - It was a day like any other for your typical macho mushroom hunting Duke Nukem-sy bro, until your idyllic forest turned dangerous when you stumbled upon a facility filled with spiteful robotic AI and enemies! Now you've got to trade in your mushroom huntin' stick for something with a little more oomph in this bizarre action-packed platformer from Emitter Critter.
  • Cover MeCover Me - Charlotte Madelon calls this a "dreamy and experimental game that avoids conventional gameplay", which is another way of saying "what is haaaaaaaaaaappening?!" The game offers no instruction beyond what keys you use, and it's up to you to figure out how to progress in each area, as well as to divine whatever meaning you wish from it. You might want to turn your volume down before you play, and avoid this game if you have a sensitivity to flashing lights.
  • Edgar's DreamEdgar's Dream - Put on your beret and prepare to make wise hmmmmm noises, this one is pretty trippy. More interactive art than anything else, you're trying to find the keys you need to escape from this place. But the paintings move. The wine glass refills itself. The creepy shadow girl haunts your dreams. Stylish and atmospheric? Absolutely. Challenging? Not quite. Still, if you want a game you could describe simply as an experience, this is the one for you.
  • Assasseed's CrinAssasseed's Crin - I admit to being fairly shallow. Some days, all I need to be amused is a funny name I can say over and over while giggling to myself, so this mini Ludum Dare entry has me covered. Assassin's Creed gets de-made all the way as you try to kill as many targets as possible without getting caught within the time limit. Bribe! Hide in hay! Stab away to your heart's content! Recreate my Friday nights!

Anyone have a guide for all the keys in Edgar's Dream? I'm missing five of them and out of ideas.

Have you been

to the attic?

There are two there. There also is one in the

bookcase

I'm still short one so obviously I haven't discovered all the corners -- seems there are many.

"Recreate my Friday nights!" If your friday nights DO involve hiding in hay, bribing and stabbing - and you are driven to this by writing the Link Dump Friday post - then I can definitely understand why LDF is not continuing... ;)
Although I'll be very sad to see it go.

I got all the keys in Edgar's Dream, but the game gives you multiple ways to finish without them.

Key Locations

North wall of living room, eastern half: on nail from which picture frame is hung
North wall of living room, western half: on end table
West wall of living room, southern half: in lower left corner of picture
Attic: on ceiling beam
Attic: on lower right of arcade game screen (click on coin slot to view)
East wall of hall: on top of picture frame
West wall of hall: hanging below the mirror
Room marked by "?" on map: leaning against a leg of the chair
Room not on map (through crawlspace in "?" room): 2 keys hanging from ceiling by string
East wall of front room: hanging in window
North wall of kitchen: in freezer
Outside, teacup view: resting on tree branch
Outside, view centered on bridge: on table
Gazebo: hanging from string

Clues

The Ouija board in the attic spells out "no K E Y 0987654321" if you click on it a few times.
When you play the arcade game in the attic, the score flashes to certain number/color combinations.
The journal in the hall has a map with an X on it.
You can turn to the reverse side of the note in the gazebo by holding down the mouse button on the bottommost portion.

Epliepsy warning for the end of Edgar's Dream! (some of the scenes were a little iffy too so be careful)

Edgar's Dream was delightfully(?) creepy! I didn't seem to get an ending though, even though I got all the keys. It just went straight to the credits. Unless it was so traumatising that I've blocked it from my memory....... That's just the creepiness getting to me. But seriously, no ending :S

I seldom check out LDFs but I have found a few that I enjoyed whenever I did (such as this one), so I think I will miss it!

Another nail in the coffin for JiG. I mean, are you really going to mandate jumps for every article? I get that it increases pageviews, but it wastes my time. I liked being able to scroll through an entire page, open the games that interested me, and start playing them. Now, I have to click a link to see if I'm really interested in a game, and then open the game again. It isn't a huge hassle, but it takes way longer, and it's pretty clear that it's a cash-grab. I think I'm out, possibly forever. You had a good run, but it's time to take Ol' Yeller out back and do the decent thing.

I'm going to miss Link Dump Friday but as long as reviews get posted, I'm good. Following FreeIndieGam.es postponing posts indefinitely, it's really depressing to think about where I will go for my weekly fix now...
