Adam

Adam

ArtbegottiThe search for the answer to life, the universe, and everything can lead people to do some pretty strange things. For example, you could try building a time machine (disguised as a grandfather clock, because police phone boxes are so cliche) and jump straight to the start of time itself. That's the theory, anyway, in Adam, a short puzzle platformer created in 48 hours where your own worst enemy is yourself!

AdamIn order to generate enough power to make the great leap back in time, you need to gather heat from the yellow heat zones scattered across each level. Grab your grandfather clock with [Z], walk over to the heat zone with the [arrow] keys, then absorb the heat by using the [spacebar]. Be careful though, because every time you make a collection, time rewinds itself, and an extra "you" is added to the universe, following your exact moves! If you run into a previous version of yourself (running into a previous clock is safe), time is completely reset, and you have to start collecting heat all over again.

While only a few levels long, Adam gives a solid challenge that require a bit of planning and perhaps patience. Since the key to the puzzle is avoiding collisions with yourself on a mostly-flat landscape, you'll need to develop a system for pausing at the moments and ducking into corners; don't forget to use the clock in the corner as a guide! The final level does involve performing a medium-level trick-jump several times in order to proceed, but otherwise the game lets the platforming stay out of the way of the puzzle you create for yourself. Time's a-wasting, and who knows if you'll be able to get it back or not, so grab your clock and go!

Adam Walkthrough

Level 1

Collect the heat zone, staying close to the left side of the zone. When time resets, move to the right until your duplicate disappears, then collect the final heat zone.

Level 2

Collect one of the heat zones. When time resets, jump onto the block next to you and wait until your duplicate disappears before going to the other heat zone. When time resets, jump up on the other block and wait until both duplicates disappear before collecting the final heat zone.

Level 3

Collect one of the heat zones to the immediate left or right of the starting point. On the reset, collect the next heat zone in that direction, but try not to walk too far into that heat zone. On the reset, press yourself against the outer wall until your two duplicates disappear, and collect the first heat zone on the other side. Repeat this process until the final heat zone is available.

Level 4

Pick up the clock and jump on the left-most platform. Jump on each of the platforms going to the right. When you reach the last platform, collect the heat zone. Repeat this clockwise circle, stopping at the right-most remaining heat zone each time to collect it. Soon, you'll have a loop of duplicates making the rounds with you. After you collect the left-most heat zone, simply step off the platform to the left and wait until the final heat zone is available.

Level 5

While standing on the clock, jump and pick up the clock at the same time in order to reach the platform with clock in hand. Drop the clock down the first hole, stand on the clock, and collect the heat zone. On the resets, repeat the trick jump and drop the clock into each heat zone to the right. After collecting the right-most heat zone, trick jump up to the right again and wait for the duplicates to disappear before performing one final trick jump to the top platform.

This looks cute and all, but I've been pressing the space bar in level 1 for more than 2 minutes and nothing has happened. Help?

Ok yeah, I have no idea how to get to the top of the clock. It seems to have some sort of relation to speed, in that when getting a running start you seem to go slightly higher, but not enough. Multiple jumps make the guy jump less high, and the Mario Side Jump just isn't enough to get up there.

Anyone figure this out?

Here is a much easier solution:

Have your first incarnation go all the way to the left and then wait for a while. Then go all the way to the right and use the first heat zone. Quickly, run over and use the next heat zone to the left. If you waited long enough originally, you can hop across and hit all the heat zones while your first incarnation is waiting at the left and your later incarnations are all to your right.

Wait - that doesn't seem to work.

So if I'm understanding the game right

He went so far back in time that he became the creator.

Which I find pretty funny, but maybe I'm misreading it.

Want to back in time but...

he's not back anymore

A few people have been asking this, so I guess an answer is needed (to at least a few of you)... yes, you're understanding the game right.

He went so back that he became the creator.
