Acorn Story

KimberlyAcorn StoryWe all know and love the classic story of a boy and his dog. But what about a boy and his magic acorn? And what if the acorn has gone missing? See how that story pans out in Acorn Story, a charming puzzle platformer by George Kobyakov. Use the [arrow] keys to move side to side and to jump to explore your surroundings. Use the [spacebar] to manipulate crates and levers to solve the puzzles and exit each level.

Acorn Story could be the gentler younger sibling of Limbo, which obviously inspired it. While the graphical style is similar to that of Limbo, Acorn Story's art is very enjoyable and holds its own. The piano soundtrack is relaxing and helps set the mood. While it's not very long (nor terribly difficult) at eight levels, you'll love the atmospheric gameplay while it lasts. Plus, you have to find out what happens to the acorn!

Level 2

  1. Push the box down and then to the left so that it covers the button.

  2. Jump over the next gap by bouncing on the tree branch.

  3. Walk past the button and pull the box to the right over so it covers the button.

  4. Stand on the next button to raise the second block all the way up.

  5. Quickly move to the next button on the right, wait until you see the platform rise from the water, then run across.

Level 3

  1. Pull the lever and use the platform that appears to cross the gap.

  2. Pull the lever and wait for the platform to come to you.

  3. Pull the lever again and quickly jump on the moving platform.

I had to give up at level 2. Couldn't get the boy to walk fast enough to move the box. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Any way to make him run?

Space to make the box move (and to interact with switches) jcf.

Keep going it is actually a beautiful little game.

Kind of embarrassed to say that I'm stuck... on the level with the cart. There's a switch I can't move.

Me too jcfclark :(

I figured mine out. Ask me if you're stuck like me.

I'm also stuck on level two- it's not the first switch that you push the box on, it's the second switch, that you walk on and there is no other box except the one next to the big falling box that you can't even jump on top by using the box next to it. Like jfclark said, you can't move fast enough, either.

For level two...

Push the box on the first switch. Then stand on the second switch until the second machine thingie gets all the way to the top. Then stand on the thrid button under that machine just long enough for the platform to rise from the river. Then hop onto the platform and over.

I can't work out what to do on that level either, sharon!! any advice/spoilers anyone?

nvm, worked it out!!

Well silly me... the boy can PULL boxes, too.

wouldve been exactly the same & of equal, but less deceptive, interest if theyd just called it move the box.

This game really is a gentle Limbo clone. It's very enjoyable as a small puzzle game-but the level with the cart is a little frustrating until I figured out that you constantly need to backtrack. I think that there didn't need to be a 1:1 translation with limbo. It feels too much like a child friendly limbo-easier puzzle-not as much reliance on physics-nod to the original ending. There's some stiffness with the jumps and a little confusion about where you are in the complete dark, but i liked this game
